Soooooo glad to see this again! I was right there in the front row to the right of the guy on the right! And I remembered him saying "I hope someone got that on tape!"!! It was awesome to see it again! Thanks for posting! Cheers, Bunny
people say that free music on the internet is ruining the music industry. Well i say that i am not much for a spender on music, but it's because of music videos i find on places like youtube that helps ME find the music that I like! Free music helps me find the things I like, and makes me look for tour dates in my area to make sure I can see the things i want, and buy the music I believe is worth my hard earned dollar! Thank you to all the musicians that captivate my soul.
Sometimes I'm playing around the pentatonic of the main chord....TE says. Listen guys, even though Tommy is self taught, he isn't music illiterate..he knows all this stuff and more, even if he cant read/play from music notation. He knows what is normal, what is out there, what works what doesn't what might, he actually knows/understands the theory...even if it wasn't taught to him. Tommy learned to play music in the proper fashion by copying all the masters..even if he had to work out his own way of making their sound. AND in doing this he learned how to make the guitar talk. To Tommy and Phil as little kids...the guitar was their one and only toy. I dare say nobody knows a guitar better than Tommy...he has basically been sleeping with one 24/7 for 50+ years.
He mentions the two schools of training, both instructor-led and self-taught. I've found what worked for me was a blend of the two. It's much easier to feel your way around and explore new territory when you know where the old territory is. Learn your theory, kids. Do the work, even if it seems like math sometimes. It will pay off by taking years off of your development time.
because they're being blown away, past the point they shun their own instrumental skills, past the point they have a conscious mind to think about what they ate for breakfast, down to the bare basics of being scared stiff by pure flare.
Hmm, interesting. Theory never has done anything for me, I tried for about 3 years when I was learning piano to do the theory and I got the basics, but the rest just didn't help me, just held me up. I learn so much quicker by just listening to it over and over, and then I'll just go and pick up the guitar and play it. Each person is different though I guess :)

Tommy is out of sight!! First heard about him some years back. Awesome talent.

Человек живёт с инструментом! Владеет Как прямой кишкой! Сильно! Надо слушать смотреть и молчать !
Cool stuff for thought and practice!
holy crap that last riff!!!!!
Excellent post. Totally agree. But I think your development time never stops. Tommy still develops!:-)
all it takes sometimes is someone to "open you up to it" or like pointing you in the right direction
They are too busy listening and appreciating it.
yeah
…and now folks, play exactly the same! ;-)
Improvisation!!
it's so strange to see tommy without guitar...
@slaQ83 Shell shocked is the term I believe :)
this is a How to Tommy Emmanuel..
@modelcitizen1977 EXACTLY
because they're being blown away, past the point they shun their own instrumental skills, past the point they have a conscious mind to think about what they ate for breakfast, down to the bare basics of being scared stiff by pure flare.
@lindauro290587 A little head bobbing doesn't make any noise does it? ;)
hands up all those who think after seeing this want to learn to shred. Shred 101?
@slaQ83 yeah, dont make noises, but they were shocked, like me when I saw this video at first time
for a minute i thought those two people were a foreground picture of an audience haha
@modelcitizen1977 Amen to that brother.
intense concentration on what TM is doing.
I think they are simply gob-smacked by his amazing ability if not then clearly the zombie apocolypse has begun...
@slaQ83 And look at the left mirror, there is a guy head bobbing ^^
@slaQ83 because they respect T.E., and dont make noises while he is playing
The guy with his arms crossed probably shows up at every one of Tommy's concerts; that's why he's unimpressed.
And that's exactly why I didn't suggest anything like that ;) It's just that I couldn't sit still if it were me :)
How the hell can all those ppl sit there, arms crossed, not moving an inch, while tommy lays out insanely swinging tunes :/ Weird ppl.

yeah so true dude, only when your older you realize why your mum forced you to play piano or why i should have paid more attention in music class :(
what the fuck else are they gonna do?
Wait... this video is normal? Then I aspire to become a normal guitarist.
Finger snapping would be cool. Or maybe they're tapping their feet.
dude supposed to be teaching a class,, ends up showing off with some master skills instead
