Gerry Rafferty Documentary Skype Out-take 2011
Gerry Rafferty 2011 Documentary edited out-take.
As a GR fan, I was interviewed for the Neon-produced documentary "GERRY RAFFERTY: RIGHT DOWN THE LINE" via Skype but the segment was deemed unacceptable for broadcast standards. However, here is a surviving portion of it from my kitchen table's perspective.

Simply one of the best songs ever written, played and recorded
is there any explaination why he didnt do an arrangement of black bird or and yesterday?im still wondering why he dont play something like that..hmm
Человек живёт с инструментом! Владеет Как прямой кишкой! Сильно! Надо слушать смотреть и молчать !
Thanks for this one of a kind video. Tommy literally does not do this arrangement anywhere else and being able to see him make an arrangement live and on the spot is incredible. This video would never exist if you didn't challenge him and push him to do it. I'm glad Tommy was such a great sport about it too, he's such a nice guy :)
I doubt it was entirely made on the spot, an arrangement like that isn’t really something you can “freestyle”. He’s probably at least dabbled around with arranging that song before and then this guy made him play it even though he wasn’t planning to.
"This Ohio life is a-kill' me" is the lyric that is the most poignant to me. Craig Fuller is the greatest!!!
Awesome job
Magic 💕❤️
What an echo chamber!
3-story-tall room with nothing but hard surfaces, terrazzo floors and plaster walls.
I was there!
I'd put John Call right there among the greats no problem, dadmak , after seeing him in concert from the early 70's through 2019 at least 35-40 times. His spontaneity and interaction with the lead guitar was like I had never seen or heard. He took a song from start to finish, whereas others sometimes waited for their part in the song. Call blended right in then boom ! he loose with some outrageous licks , lightning speed, tremendous high end clarity. Vince Gill always picked his guy John Hughey since they played together constantly but played sometimes with Call and said you'd be hard pressed to find someone better. For those who say he's the best, I can;t find fault. To each his own. Call is a monster on the steel and a major influence to steelers, country rock and country music.
Terrific band and song. It's Tom' s handiwork in almost all of the pics taken from the website, not Dave. His concert pics and photo shops were awesome. That poster for the concert he did was outstanding, They sold them at the concert.
this is a How to Tommy Emmanuel..
Great song ,great band, extremely great photo shops !
Love it !
My daughter bled all over the bass player when a dog bit her in the face at an outdoor concert in Memphis, TN.
Really?
@@juliestrom412 Yes. It was a sheepdog, believe it or not
Well we knew it wasn't a prairie dog.
I didn't see George in that mix, he used to play the piano, pedal steel & guitar. Not sure if Larry Goshorn there either, he also played guitar & sang, but he was in a few shots. I knew them in the late 70's.
George played rhythm guitar and wrote and sang, Mike Connor played Piano , John David Call played pedal Steel (still does- the best !! ) . George is in center at .53 and 2nd from left at 1.00 Goshorn is on George's left
@@cowboyluke1706 George also played several songs on the piano, I remember because I used to play classical piano & always notice the one playing piano. This was a long time ago at Lafayette's in Memphis. Maybe Larry will remember me?
Like late 70's maybe?
Hi Alyson, I saw PPL dozens of times in different venues from the early 70's right through two weeks ago ! I know the members quite well , have done stuff for their website including a detailed discography and trust me George never played piano in concert or on any of their LP's, only guitar. Only Mike Connor played piano who joined during the recording of Bustin' Out. As for the late 70's , George left in 78 during the recording of Just Fly. In fact Tim Goshorn did vocals on one of George's tunes, My Young Girl , on the Just Fly LP since George was not around. Again George never played pedal steel that was John Call who I saw two weeks ago in a great concert,. Fats Kaplin played steel briefly until Call came back in 2006. As for Larry , he joined in 73 and also left in 78 with brother Tim and George. After they all left Vince Gill came in as did Pat Bolin and then Jeff Wilson .
Who tf challenges tommy who tf do you think you are to challenge him. He can do better than solo 😑
Broooo...I know...I was totally pissed off when I heard this for the first time...I thought "who the f... are you, you arrogant …" Tommy showed him up...with humility as he always does...as for the prat behind the camera...
the lick at 1:24 owned me, thank you for sharing!
dude supposed to be teaching a class,, ends up showing off with some master skills instead
Храни Господь тебя, Томми!!!!!💒🎶💒🙋💞
Спасибо, Томми!!!🙋💞
Hey you cameraman. Just shut up and be polite. Asshoe. He punched you in the face and you have to live with that all your life
I'm pretty sure the camera man just wanted the hear the best guitar player in the world play his favorite Beatles' song. Just a hunch.
Donnie Lee Clark played in alot of bands here in Indy...
Great shot of Jimmy Del!!!
I was class of 67. I can't pick out these guys. Fuzzy had Mike Girard cut all their hair off (Tarney ran for the exit). This team has hair!
Sometimes I'm playing around the pentatonic of the main chord....TE says. Listen guys, even though Tommy is self taught, he isn't music illiterate..he knows all this stuff and more, even if he cant read/play from music notation. He knows what is normal, what is out there, what works what doesn't what might, he actually knows/understands the theory...even if it wasn't taught to him. Tommy learned to play music in the proper fashion by copying all the masters..even if he had to work out his own way of making their sound. AND in doing this he learned how to make the guitar talk. To Tommy and Phil as little kids...the guitar was their one and only toy. I dare say nobody knows a guitar better than Tommy...he has basically been sleeping with one 24/7 for 50+ years.
Dan - just found this but I remember this well. I was there. You may remember that Drew and I grew up on opposites sides of the same block and were friends until I went off to West Point (we were friends afterward too just never saw each other). I wanted to play bass because of the Ventures - it only took me 40 years. When Drew finally got a real Bass guitar, he sold me the old six-string which stayed in Mom's basement until she finally gave it to someone else. I also remember well the Battle of the Bands in `67. Can't remember the first song you guys played (maybe "Apache"?) but the second was "Slaughter on 10th Avenue" and the one that sealed the deal was "Caravan." Richie play a bass solo while Drew fretted the part. Brought the old Rialto theater down! I have told my wife and kids about you guys and this group for decades. When I finally settled down long enough to pick up a Bass guitar the first song I learned was "Walk, Don't Run." Thanks for a great memory. P.S. I thought I remembered everything but I never knew about the lip-synching. Great secrets.
Saw this live!!!!!!!!! August 2014, no sht, really. After 30 years they played it again, live. Birchmere in Alexandria. Good times
…and now folks, play exactly the same! ;-)
that was beautiful!
Dc Outlaw, it would be hard to put JD Call above Buddy Emmons, JD Maness, Lloyd Green, Weldon Myrick, or a few others, but he certainly deserves to be named with them.
Tommy is so graceful, taking on this guy's ridiculously stupid challenge. I challenge the challenge guy to learn about modesty.
The guy was obviously a fan who ultimately got Tommy to play a gorgeous rendition. Tommy added it to his tour set list the following year, so what is stupid about that?
His comments just struck me as one coming from an arrogant person.
I must have been in a bad mood that day.
@@JWPMinnesota lol 7 years later I hope you're a much happier person
Incomparable.
One of my favorite Beatles tunes. Mother Natures Son is another. Fun to watch TE play around with it
Finger snapping would be cool. Or maybe they're tapping their feet.
1375 views! Hell, I've listened to it more than that.
intense concentration on what TM is doing.
This is great stuff, Dan!
Excellent post. Totally agree. But I think your development time never stops. Tommy still develops!:-)
He now does it with Frank Vignola. Maybe you influenced him to it.
Now I'm up in New Hampshire "Live Free or Die", was having lunch with my wife yesterday (her birthday) in a nice restaurant overlooking the ocean, and the Muzak or whatever was playing this song. Nice throwback.
Way back in the 70's my Sigma Chi brother, "Dago", was hitchhiking (normal people did that back then) in Southern Indiana and who should stop and offer a ride but Craig Fuller, on his way to another local gig. Just an outstanding and totally distinctive sound.
@3gypt1an erg iphones..i meant where in the Internet do fans go now??
It's funny I dont think I've ever called myself a GR fan until I watched this. The reality is the guy's music moves souls. Inherent do fans go now? And is there any way to get a hold of that fan compilation? ? Thanks a ton for sharing this dude!
what the fuck else are they gonna do?
And that's exactly why I didn't suggest anything like that ;) It's just that I couldn't sit still if it were me :)
yeah so true dude, only when your older you realize why your mum forced you to play piano or why i should have paid more attention in music class :(
for a minute i thought those two people were a foreground picture of an audience haha
I think they are simply gob-smacked by his amazing ability if not then clearly the zombie apocolypse has begun...
I really love 0:50! He's just looking as; 'Something like that?' Hahaha! This is, MY opinion, the best acoustic player in the world and maybe even the best all-round player in the world! As a fingerpicker myself, he's my all-time hero! ~ Machiel Stoffers.
