I've thought of raising roads above the ground before and wondered why it never happened other than pure cost issues. It's incredible to see someone who had that idea and ran with it, ultimately I agree with others that these areas can work incredibly well as long as they are properly maintained and commercial areas are mixed within them. Although, yeah, ideally they should be a bit shorter. It's this sort of housing I have within my worldbuilding. (With the flaws mostly ironed out) - I think the crime issue was the biggest issue that the Bijlmer faced, which could be sorted with better surveillance and population.
