I never felt Hong was struggling to get these aspects of his character's traits across. Which can't be easy in the make-up of a thousand-year-old man or as an invulnerable giant.

It is kind of ironic that you mentioned that, since Lo Pan was an inspiration to the character of Shang Tsung. Especially his very first appearance in the first MK game ever
James Hong did such a good job as Lo Pan. It's pretty funny that at the time of this film, James was still quite young, yet he nailed the elderly Chinese wizard role perfectly.
