1:21 Glad somebody finally said it. This show never should have been grand in scale. Any show focusing on Obi-Wan during this period of his life should have focused on how Obi-Wan dealt with his war experiences. His "brother" betrayed him and now he has to secretly guard his son, all the while living on a hostile planet. His Order has fallen. If we include the Clone Wars series as canon, the love of his life died in the war. There was so much potential for this show to deal with philosophical/cognitive/moral conflict rather than combative (if action was included it should only be done to further the aforementioned). But instead, we got this. It's kinda hard to write a morally, cognitively, or philosophically insightful show if you or the company you serve no longer values inner growth.
i think its based on star wars being popular with its lightsaber or fights, so they decided to put complex and fighting stuff because they thought its needed in a show with a jedi
The fact that Organa who is still part of the imperial senate, could have petitioned the empire to get his daughter back. Vader and the emperor himself would have back handed Reva for her inept decisions. Even though Organa was close to the Jedi, every Senator was during the clone wars. So the empire would have tried their best to bring her back home
Ok I hate Disney Star wars but I like to rationalize things before I say it's bad so I can give a somewhat decent excuse for this. I'm episode 4 is implied that the imperial Senate has Rebel sympathizers hence the need for the death star to keep people in line. Bale more than likely would have been under suspicion for harboring resentment for the Empire. As such that may not have worked especially with Sidious and Vader's lack of tact and sympathy and killing anyone that messes up let alone would oppose a decision.

@@ritenac6770 Chasing Kenobi for revenge is different than trapping Luke to use him to overthrow the emperor, so it requires different tactics. So the mere fact that he'd used Force pull on a ship before doesn't mean he would've done it again in a different situation.
3 Inquisitors: "There's nowhere to run!" That whatshisface jedi at the start: *walks off screen* Reva: "There's nowhere to run!" Kenobi: *walks off screen* Kenobi: "There's nowhere to run!" Leia: *walks off screen* Vader: "There's nowhere to run!" Kenobi: *walks off screen* There are a bunch more but that sums it up, this show is exactly like CW Flash.
Minor nitpick here- Kenobi actually has been shown throughout Star Wars media to be proficient with a blaster, it's just that he disdains ever using one frivolously as opposed to a lightsaber. That being said, this show undercuts even that background reasoning so oh fucking well... Great breakdown of this show otherwise!
How does the force feel? Depends whether or not it is wrapped around your throat or curling around you in pulses of lightning, I suppose... or sure, let's just say it feels like turning a light on.
Why does Leia run like a toddler isn't she supposed to be like 10?? Ten year olds don't run like that, lmao. And I cannot believe they filmed those chase scenes. They should've scrapped them immediately after seeing Leia run.
Why does this story need to happen at a point in the timeline where Leia is such a small child and so unbelievably slow? How does making Leia and Obi Wan both a little older NOT improve both characters?
It's super ironic how people shat on the EU because of how inconsistent they were to the canon, yet by ROS, the continuity of this new canon is somehow worse than that one, and now with Kenobi, this franchise's writing is forever doomed to be disregarded for cheap fanservice and nostalgia pandering.
The sad thing about Rise of Skywalker is that they took the Dark Empire plot, one of the most disliked plots of the old EU, and somehow did it even worse. At least Dark Empire's writer made sure that even though Palpatine came back there was a method to permanently put him back in his grave. JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio did not even think of the fact that they had Rey not just bounce the lightning back at Palpatine (which still counts as her killing him) but also gather up the lightning on the lightsabers to shove it back in a big pulse that finished him off. Meaning just like he said he got to possess her body. Which means when she goes and names herself Rey Skywalker its Sheev Palpatine who is saying that when you actually follow the plot of the movie.
i think they should just stay away from original and prequel characters and storys try and come up with new stuff like that new star wars show is all right way better then kanobi at least u can tell where they put they're money cause they definitely did not put it in to kanobi ill watch stuff about the originals and prequels only if its dave in charge of the writing and directing
One of the funniest things is how Obi-wan talks(not whispers) about being a Jedi in the back of the truck, and the mole man most likely has good hearing because he's a fucking mole man, and we know the mole man also talks to people who are in the back all the time. So of course he's going to hear that and warn the troopers.
18:00 - So, I actually looked into this. Apparently, the SHOW WRITER himself admitted that he HADN'T seen ROTS, and figured it would be more narrativly intresting if Obi Wan didn't know, despite the fact he was making a show for prequel fans...
I'm very surprised you didn't go over the scene where Vader lets Obi-Wan go instead of force grabbing him, throwing a lightsaber, using the force to put out the flames, straight up terminator walk through the flames since his suit is designed to withstand the vacuum of space, going around the fire, jumping over the fire, or even just telling his troops to stun him.
The missed opportunity to have Hayden play a PTSD ghost who Kenobi talks to and battles mentally throughout the show kills something deep inside of me.
It’s amazing that this is was supposed to be such a hyped show and have amazing followups like -what was kanobi doing while vader took over - how did he learn to communicate/ become a force ghosts becaues in the first movie he says that he will be more powerful as a ghost And lastly if anything besides the empire happened? This show really was just laya gets kidnapped … and that’s pretty much it
Qui Gon Jinn cannot appear physically. He was barely a disembodied voice on Dagobah, which has one of the strongest connections to the force in the galaxy. That ending scene contradicted Qui Gon's force abilities.
Eh, Obi-Wan did that sometimes too. I think Force ghosts just can choose. If Obi-Wan really wanted to help Luke destroy the Death Star, he could have embodied himself right where Luke needed to aim and just said "Luke, shoot through me".
@@PosthumanHeresy it might just be how connected the person who is trying to talk to them (whether consciously or not) is to the force Edit: Of course, there is the moment of qui gon talking about the force of the surrounding, so I’m probably wrong
@@PosthumanHeresyIk it’s been months, I’m revisiting this video. Qui Gon specifically says his training was unfinished so he was unable to appear physically to Yoda. The most impact he could make was moving some lights to guide yoda while having a conversation.
@24:29 something to add here is that obi wan right now is supposed to be very weak in the force, a power that helps guide his actions so with this context turns obi wan from a mere reckless jedi to an absolute lunatic
_Obi-Wan cuts his Force phone line_ "Why didn't you call me?" Obi-Wan to Qui-Gon "You weren't ready for a phone call." Qui-Gon No. I'm pretty sure it's the whole cut himself from the Force nonsense. Qui-Gon has become a liar, and Obi-Wan is brain meltingly stupid. In truth, the writers of the show most likely forgot their own show they wrote and wanted a reveal for the slack-jawed of the viewers. But the show is near perfect guys, everyone is too hard on the show.
I'd imagine it's related to how likely you are to be reported by people. Namely, the more you piss people off, the more they're going to report you and get you struck. The only winning move is to not piss off entire fandoms over and over.
Holy crap, I didn't watch a single episode of this show, only the reviews from long men and their like. I didn't expect the dialogue to be so bad. I stopped at 3:31 and I think I'm gonna need a drink to get through an hour of this.
The prequels have some fantastic writing. As a whole, they are deeply flawed, but there is so much there. The world building also allowed so many great stories in the eu. RotS is my favorite star wars film and, while it has many issues, the good makes my subjective take be one of love. This show was far worse than the prequels. I was hoping for a small scale show and, as usual with these shows, it started okay, then progressively went from "this line is messy" to "the entirety of the main star wars story no longer functions." I'm past the point of anger with Star Wars for the most part, I'm just sad now. Thanks for the vid Madvocate.
God, we live in an era where the writing is so bankrupt that even the fucking prequels - the poster child of creative bankruptcy - are considered good with "fantastic" writing in comparison.
@@Ruldolphmaker they do have some fantastic details in there. Overall, very flawed films, but there is good to latch onto. In addition, most of the prequels’ flaws aren’t foundational, whereas with many stories out now, you need a complete reset to get a functional story. There are MANY issues with the prequels, but similar to NWH, there is also a decent amount of good writing within the muck.
For the qui gon point, i think he meant "you weren't ready to see" as in obi wan literally couldn't see because of how cut off from the force he was. But now that he's accepted it and trying again, he can see qui gon. Everything else, i agree. This show broke me in a way no other has done before
Holy crab “obi-wan kenblowmi” is so good. Also I love the post “he made himself enemies with cw fans” well man you better watch out for your two new enemies
Reva reminds me of The Scarlet Witch in the Dr Strange multiverse of Sadness. They are both horrible and evil but last minute they decide to be good for dumb reasons and the scripts attempt to exonerate them.
42:38 that would actually be a sick concept for a show. Kenobi doesn’t want to kill Anakin so he takes Vader hostage but they end up in a dangerous scenario that forces them to work together for the time being while discussing their past and how their relationship is forever ruined.
Unfortunately the movies and shows have done little to support this fact. Many Jedi wear very similar robes, and we do not see many commoners wearing them. Surely different commoners from different planets would wear different outfits? So shouldn't Jedi have different styles to accommodate this?
@@CptnCardboard Oh absolutely, the sheer lack of worldbuilding in this universe is staggering. They don't even wear tattered or dirty robes they're always nice and clean.

@@enderlord8771 I don't think it's an idea you'd hear from Lucas or Filoni, but to me it's more fun to look for how the story fits together than how it falls apart. All the complaints people have are a slippery slope that easily bleeds into stories they've been less inclined to criticize, if they let it. Generally, if I don't like a story, that means I don't understand it, so I look at it with different lenses or leave it alone.
Y'know, now that I think about it, the whole Leia story could've been a show on it's own, and to give the people extra fan service, they could've made a younger Mando be the hired gun that has to save her.
The blaster point is one of the few I find moot, as he frequently is forced to resort to them in the Clone Wars (which is canon), and is shown to be a dab hand at using them-- like top-tier material, which makes sense when you consider his skill as a Jedi
I like to believe in Madvocate canon, the kid from the Polar Express (27:09) grows up into the guy in his basement with CW posters and always tries to counter argue you in your other videos
I agree. It's silly that obi wan is flip flopping between ideals. Like in epsiode 3 despite what he endured. He stepped up to his task assigned by yoda with no reluctance or hesitation.
Worst part: He barely tried to argue with Anakin, Obi Wan was faithful enough to put down jedi like Anakin who was essentially his brother to preserve the justice and yet Vader doesn't do that in Kenobi series
Hello, a fan of Mauler here. First video of yours I've seen and I'm likening what I see so far. Just wanted to point out something a lot of people seem to have missed. 1. Bail Organa is a member of the Imperial Senate and the ruler of the powerful Core world of Alderaan that was a founding member of the Republic. If his daughter went missing, the first thing he would be doing is using his connections within the Senate to send the Imperial Army after her and make whoever stole her wanted throughout the galaxy not even mentionng the huge bounty that the Organas would put out towards the safe return of their daughter. 2. Remember that scene where the Grand Inquisitor confronts Reva in that city? Notice how the lines about the archive and using Leia as bait don't sound the same? That's because the line about the archive was ADR’d in to fill in the plot hole that they made.
17:15 if Vader was written as he normally should be Reva shouldn't know that it's Anakin Skywalker, even TARKIN didn't know for sure who was under the helmet and he was one of the emperor's most trusted people 💀💀
At the risk of writing the show for them, she did encounter Vader after he turned (but before the suit), and people can recognise a familiar presence in the force (as demonstrated when Vader senses Obi-Wan in A New Hope). She could have met Vader and felt the same presence from that day
The single line/exchange I like in this show was the "Have you ever been afraid of the dark?" *Leia nods* "How does it feel when you turn on the light?" "I feel safe" "Yes, it feels like that." But as you say, that and the Obi-Wan seeing Anakin thing are never paid off
You forgot the "chase scene" where ten year old Leia outruns a few bounty hunters because they are face first crashing into trees and branches, even though they should be able to see them
28:37 Vader has the ability to sustain himself through the force for limited periods of time. As such when he turns off his respirator or holds his breath he becomes the stealthiest entity in the Star Wars universe At Night.
I think one of the biggest missed opportunities would be to reveal that Qui-Gon had been basically haunting Anakin/Vader since after ROTS, I definitely thought he would be revealed after the last Vader/Obi-Wan fight and talk to Vader while he was laying there.
Narri recently used the force and I'm assuming the show made that decision because they "thought" the inquisitors could sense him or something so if Kenobi took him in, his cover would be blown

A lot of potential...wasted.
Yeah, if bail brought his up in the senate reva would be gutted(aka. a slap on the wrist) and leia returned with a cover story. Story over
Ok I hate Disney Star wars but I like to rationalize things before I say it's bad so I can give a somewhat decent excuse for this.
Vader actually shouldn't be able to force pull the ship at the end of part 5. In Empire he sees the Falcon take off near him on Hoth and did nothing.
He did nothing because Luke wasn't on the Falcon.
@@2QAYL1138 But he wants the Falcon and its passengers. He chases them into an asteroid field (at great risk to his ships and men) and hires bounty hunters to achieve this.
@@robertbeisert3315 Ok so either he knew he had backup to catch them once they left the atmosphere, or he knew the Force pull was impulsive & 12 years later he's mature enough to be willing to go with the long con instead.
@@2QAYL1138 he had backup in Kenobi, and why would he think it ‘mature’ not to do it when he would have been successful if there wasn’t a second ship?
If anything he should be more inclined to do it again since it’s only the Falcon and 12 years ago the ship escaped his backup
@@ritenac6770 Chasing Kenobi for revenge is different than trapping Luke to use him to overthrow the emperor, so it requires different tactics. So the mere fact that he'd used Force pull on a ship before doesn't mean he would've done it again in a different situation.

Yeah, especially in that rooftop fight with the Dinosaur show extra and the robot.
So unrefined
How does the force feel? Depends whether or not it is wrapped around your throat or curling around you in pulses of lightning, I suppose... or sure, let's just say it feels like turning a light on.
Why does Leia run like a toddler isn't she supposed to be like 10?? Ten year olds don't run like that, lmao.
And I cannot believe they filmed those chase scenes. They should've scrapped them immediately after seeing Leia run.
Idk man the child actress didn’t looked like 10, at best she had 7 or 8
Yeah dude she looks like a little dipshit when she runs. #noshame
Yeah fair I started running like a normal person at 5yrs old.
Why does this story need to happen at a point in the timeline where Leia is such a small child and so unbelievably slow? How does making Leia and Obi Wan both a little older NOT improve both characters?
I still run like a moron...
@The Cambot To which JJ said the novels aren't canon to him, lol.
@The Cambot Same as JJ and RJ still saying Kylo killed Luke's students, despite the comics retconning it to Palpatine did it.
i think they should just stay away from original and prequel characters and storys try and come up with new stuff like that new star wars show is all right way better then kanobi at least u can tell where they put they're money cause they definitely did not put it in to kanobi ill watch stuff about the originals and prequels only if its dave in charge of the writing and directing
@The Cambot Hence my point, JJ and RJ say that didn't happen.

The amount of thought that goes into how to take obi wan keblowmi (blow mi, kabloomie, etc.) is way more than the writers committed to this show
I'm very surprised you didn't go over the scene where Vader lets Obi-Wan go instead of force grabbing him, throwing a lightsaber, using the force to put out the flames, straight up terminator walk through the flames since his suit is designed to withstand the vacuum of space, going around the fire, jumping over the fire, or even just telling his troops to stun him.
He was busy trying to figure out why Kenobi’s clothes didn’t catch on fire despite being literally in the fire
It will be in part 2 since it is focused on "the bad guys" so you'll just have to wait for it
Vader: The Plot armor is strong in this one
The missed opportunity to have Hayden play a PTSD ghost who Kenobi talks to and battles mentally throughout the show kills something deep inside of me.
He really just used that outro, what a legend.
But Madvocate, he can use the Force to find the lightsaber.... wait, no, they established his Force prowess has wained...
It’s amazing that this is was supposed to be such a hyped show and have amazing followups like
-what was kanobi doing while vader took over
- how did he learn to communicate/ become a force ghosts becaues in the first movie he says that he will be more powerful as a ghost
And lastly if anything besides the empire happened?
This show really was just laya gets kidnapped … and that’s pretty much it
Qui Gon Jinn cannot appear physically. He was barely a disembodied voice on Dagobah, which has one of the strongest connections to the force in the galaxy. That ending scene contradicted Qui Gon's force abilities.
Eh, Obi-Wan did that sometimes too. I think Force ghosts just can choose. If Obi-Wan really wanted to help Luke destroy the Death Star, he could have embodied himself right where Luke needed to aim and just said "Luke, shoot through me".
@@PosthumanHeresy it might just be how connected the person who is trying to talk to them (whether consciously or not) is to the force
Edit: Of course, there is the moment of qui gon talking about the force of the surrounding, so I’m probably wrong
_Obi-Wan cuts his Force phone line_
"Why didn't you call me?" Obi-Wan to Qui-Gon
"You weren't ready for a phone call." Qui-Gon
No.
Weird how some channels can play the whole series just fine, but other channels post a 3 second clip and they get hit with a strike.

Thanks for the vid Madvocate.
the prequels are pretty bad movies, but the prequel era is some of the most exciting star wars storytelling i've ever experienced.
cringe. the prequels are some of the worst movies ever made, this show is mediocre at best. miles apart.
@@lolwhatidk other way around

I don't know why it's so funny to me, but when you said Leia could hang onto Kenobi "like a koala" I just started laughing uncontrollably.
This guy's editing in his videos make me die of laughter while crying that star wars has gotten to the lowest of lows.
Just a small nitpick, the jedi robes are designed to look like commoner clothes specifically so they can blend in with the general populace.
@@franklinturtleton6525 They're always nice & clean (except for Obi-Wan after Mustafar) to signify that the Jedi are in decline, they're betraying their principles by living so grandiosely in their ivory tower.

Best part of Obi Wan Kenobi is when he kills General Grievous in the most gruesome way possible and casually says: So uncivilized.

Obi-Wan Kenblowmi: It’s Due Time (Part 2)
This truly is the way of the Jedi. The power of character assassinations

Good job
17:15 if Vader was written as he normally should be Reva shouldn't know that it's Anakin Skywalker, even TARKIN didn't know for sure who was under the helmet and he was one of the emperor's most trusted people 💀💀
I thought tarkin knew for sure that it was anakin
Only Palpatine and Thrawn knew which is weird how one imperial knew this info
At the risk of writing the show for them, she did encounter Vader after he turned (but before the suit), and people can recognise a familiar presence in the force (as demonstrated when Vader senses Obi-Wan in A New Hope). She could have met Vader and felt the same presence from that day
When Darth Vader Says: Have You Come To Destroy Me Obi Wan. That Line Makes No Sense Because Darth Vader Came To Obi Wan. ;-;
The single line/exchange I like in this show was the
"Have you ever been afraid of the dark?"
*Leia nods*
"How does it feel when you turn on the light?"
"I feel safe"
"Yes, it feels like that."
But as you say, that and the Obi-Wan seeing Anakin thing are never paid off
You forgot the "chase scene" where ten year old Leia outruns a few bounty hunters because they are face first crashing into trees and branches, even though they should be able to see them
28:37
Vader has the ability to sustain himself through the force for limited periods of time.
Vader didn't know Force Ghosts were a thing.
Narri recently used the force and I'm assuming the show made that decision because they "thought" the inquisitors could sense him or something so if Kenobi took him in, his cover would be blown
I might be missing some lore here, but how is Vader talking and breathing at the same time? Does he do that in the originals?
He does yes. The suit is basically an iron lung that breathes for him and his voice is actually nothing but a whisper amplified by the mask
