Thawne's ability to negate being erased from existence stems from the comics where he is a living paradox basically making him immune to any timeline changes he or anyone causes to himself. Now the issue is, if you didn't know this then thawne existing past season one makes no form of sense and the way the show tries to handle it only makes it more confusing.

fun fact: the Mach 20 speed that barry needs to reach in season 7 would be around 20 thousand miles per hour. Barry moved faster than a bolt of lightening in season 1. Thunderbolts travel at around 270 thousand miles per hour. So much for becoming faster each season.

      @Reac2 Рік тому +45

It's also important to note that that speed is only relative to earth. Earth itself is constantly hurtling through space at 67 thousand miles per hour. So how can anything going a third of the speed the earth is already moving, suddenly destroy the world?
There is an easy fix too, just gonna pull this out of my ass: "Barry needs to ACCELERATE (not be a certain speed) at a certain rate to travel through time, but in this specific instance he would have to accelerate so fast that his atomic structure would just disintegrate, which the speedforce (canonically) prevents. But to prevent him from disintegrating from accelerating SO fast, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The energy the speedforce needs to counteract the acceleration killing him, it takes by directly terminating atoms into pure energy. The speedforce can handle this at normal acceleration, because it uses the energy instantaneously, so there isn't any explosion or some such. But at that level the speedforce itself can't keep up and would produce more energy than it would use and the leftover energy would nuke the planet."
There you go writers, a freebie.

Since they introduced the multiverse almost immediately in season 2, all they really had to do in later seasons was say "this Thawne that you erased is from your timeline, this here Thawne comes from the multiverse version that defeated and erased his Barry from existence; he found out about the multiverse, couldn't accept his parallel-self's failure and decided to conquer other worlds". Make it apparent slowly, drop hints in the subsequent seasons until you decide to drop the show, and in the finale of finales you send Barry to fix the Thawne-won version of the Earth.

This is really just another example of them NOT knowing how to handle Flash's powers. Super speed is majorly overpowered.
We literally see Barry get shot in the back of the neck, and WHILE the bullet is still in the process of piercing his skin, he just reaches behind himself and grabs it, making the bullet totally useless.
So that SHOULD establish that every speedster at LEAST as fast as Barry was at that time (which is EVERY speedster after that moment cause otherwise they'd just be a non-threat) is immune to bullets, cause they can just grab them before they break their skin even if shot in a sneak attack.
However that means they would need to actually work to resolve conflicts. So they just ignore it when convenient. Like EVERY time Barry fights fucking Snart.

You know what could’ve been an interesting origin story for how Thawne grew to hate Barry? Have Thawne explain that he wanted to be a speedster because he saw the way The Flash did things as flawed. The Flash didn’t kill and he thought that if he was a speedster he could show everyone how easier things would be if the criminals who committed crimes were simply removed from society. However once he got his speed and started saving the day his way, people inherently knew that it was wrong for one man to be judge jury and executioner. However instead of changing his mind, he instead decided that people not liking his methods must only be because The Flash is around doing things differently. So in this case his hatred for The Flash is fueled by his own ideals and not petty jealousy. Or maybe that would suck just as much idk I’m not a screenwriter.

But yet again, as there are a lot of Eobard Wells' and just Eobard's that are protected by either the Speedforce or nexus/fixed points in time, that one time remanent from Crisis on Earth-X survived somehow or got created as soon as Black Flash died.

(The death of the speed force, the Godspeed war, the introduction of three new forces, etc.) Shit like that sounds so fun on paper and yet the Flash finds a way to do the lamest versions of every story it presents each time. It doesn't help that Eric Wallace doesn't look at any online Flash stuff. He lives in a bubble that ultimately makes any criticisms the fans have about the show null and void.

The plot just fully character assassinates Caitlin in numerous ways that seriously makes Dr. Strange look like the smartest character alive in No Way Home. I mean, the premise is her bringing back someone, which was a big mistake she should've learned from Deathstorm. What's worse she even tries to tempt Barry into bringing back his parents, which just sounds like what a villain says. People seem to hate on Scarlet Witch being a villain in MOM. But her turn at least had a believable foundation and set up with the Darkhold. The problem is her being a villain was underwhelming since it's right after her development in Wandavision. His negative costume could have been good too, had they spend more efforts on the mask, and made it more comfy so it didn't look like RF was constipated every time he took a step.
I so wish that this show had been somehow finished after season 3, have it end the same way with Barry deciding "screw it I'm going full flashpoint" and end it... and there so we would have fond memories of it.
Same for *Arrow* , with a few minor tweaks it could have ended after season 5, which would have tied up his 5 years marooned nicely.
Maybe have the secondary characters of both shows get some satisfying endings in *Legends of Tomorrow* , like it did for John Constantine after his solo show got unjustly cancelled after 1 cool season?
Maybe have Diggle become a Green Lantern in Legends, Black Siren redeem herself in it too (her redemption arc was one of the things I enjoyed in later season of *Arrow* ), and...
Oh well, it does not do well to dwell on paths not taken, or something.

The whole 'how does Thawne exist after season 1' to me could have had a simple explanation in season 2 that I initially thought they were setting up, but they never followed through with.
As you mentioned had Thawne never existed season 1 and all of the events prior to it such as the death of Barry's mother would never have happened, which is why him being erased caused the whole interdimensional rift/black hole/whatever at the end of season 1, but in the season 2 premiere they stop it from destroying their universe.
By stopping it and saving their universe they just needed to say the Reverse Flash clearly isn't erased anymore, they all still remember him, Barry's mother was still murdered by him, so just have someone say something like 'Eddie killing himself would have erased Thawne and thus our universe, but because we stopped our universe from being erased we therefore stopped Thawne from being erased'.
That's a pretty clear cut explanation that makes sense, and seeing as the Thawne we meet in season 2 is an earlier version of him just say that Eddie's actions now resulted in Thawne dying rather than being erased. The Thawne we saw in season 1 was clearly towards the end of his rivalry with Barry, he said they've been enemies for years, so just have every version we see afterwards be his younger self who isn't concerned with getting back home and is focused solely on ruining Barry's life, so by the end of the show we've caught up to the character we see in season 1.
The whole thing with Reverse Flash constantly dying and coming back was addressed in the Rebirth comics in a hilarious way after his skeleton is found at the start of Doomsday Clock. His skeletal remains are in a morgue, then a narration basically says 'he's a living paradox so he'll always come back' as his body regrows and comes back to life. It's so lazy but I also kind of appreciate that writer saying 'fuck it, he'll always come back who cares why or how'.
Either way its a shame because if they kept up the quality of the first season and used him more sparingly, Thawne could have and should have been terrifying in every appearance he was in much like Homelander in the Boys, just a completely unhinged and all powerful monster.

Actually yeah this would've been perfect for Flash and the general tone of the show.
You want to do the right thing, but at what cost?
Erasing RF will not only make your lives better, but countless others. On the other hand, it also means the complete destruction of your existence.
Show also could use this as a stepping stone to excuse why Barry hates changing the timeline. Because each time he does it, EVERYTHING he cares for is simply erased out of existence and only he remains since he was in between universes.
This also would make his eventual creation of Flashpoint much more heavier because he *knew* the consequenses of possible changes and did it anyways.
It also makes Savitar much more ruthless Barry who doesnt give a shit.
It ALSO makes Crisis on Infinite Earth's storyline better by extension since Barry gets a chance to redeem himself.
Show could have been so much better if it didnt back down from the risks it dared to take every 2 minutes.

Okay, I completely forgot how nonsensical the "no kill, save everyone" is in The Flash series. Recently, I finished this amazing Disney animated show called The Owl House where, spoilers:
    .
    .
I mean it, you should watch the show, I'm about to spoil the ending, and it's a good show, so read at your own risk.
    .
    .
Luz, the goody two-shoes hero, watches Philip, the unwavering genocidal fascist villain, FKING MELT under BOILING RAIN she may or may not have magically brought up herself, followed by other main characters TRAMPLING HIM TO DEATH for good measure. There is no "you gotta save everyone, even the worst, or you're no better than them". In fact, the last season makes a point of completely destroying the "just as bad" trope. This was a fking breath of fresh air, and now watching this video reminded me of why. Especially the moment with Joe, holy sh!t

People who literally said that this season was a return to form have no idea what they were talking about. Seasons 1-3(Yes, 3 included, despite that season’s issues)actually made you care about what was happening with the cast as well as the overall events and the stakes that were in place. Seasons afterwards with I guess the exception of season 4(and the first half of season 6 with the Bloodwork arc), I don’t give a shit anymore. I’ve watched season 7 and 8 of this series with the mindset of “I do not care anymore. This show means almost nothing to me like it used to”. And I still feel like that. Because this show’s writing, storytelling, character drama, and just overall atmosphere doesn’t feel the same anymore. I don’t get excited for this show. I just turn it on to see how this shit will eventually end. I hope season 9 is this show’s last.

The woman cannot emote to save her life. She has no way to put the right inflection into her voice, and we're supposed to just accept that she's not a plot device?

Because if he kills kid barry he never becomes the flash meaning eobard never becomes the reverse flash meaning he never travels back in time to kill barry
And him deciding to kill Barry's mom so he wouldn't becomes the flash doesn't make any sense because him losing his mom doesn't mean he never gets his powers and just gives him a motivation to become a hero
In the comics his motivation makes a lot more sense

In the future he was a fan, wanted to be like him, got the powers, created dangerous situation to save people, barry stopped him and he's "rehabilitated" in prison, tries to become barry's sidekick, makes his costume yellow cause "all the sidekicks wear yellow", goes back and in time and sees Wally West in a yellow costume, gets pissed cause he realises he's not special, the rest is history. i think part of the fandom reason for loving thawne so much is love for other versions of the character being able to bleed into the arrowverse version thanks to his time travel origin.
how they managed to make his backstory lamer than even the comics is impressive. the comic backstory is, to summarize: thawne is from the distant future where the flash is a world famous hero in history. he worked at the flash museum and was the biggest fanboy the flash ever had. he fanboyed so hard he managed to figure out the flash's real identity through historical documents, and was as such able to figure out how he got his speed and replicate the procedure. the flash also ended up in the future at one point and gave him some hero advice, which slived in his head rent-free. he immediately made a suit resembling the kid flashes of the past and tried to be a hero, and went back in time to show off how good of a hero he's being, only to learn that not only was there already a kid flash in that era, not only did that kid flash get the same advice he once did in front of him, but the flash of that era had an arch-nemesis; himself. his mentality shattered upon this revelation, and he decided if he was destined to be the flash's worst enemy, he would do his best to live up to that title. he knew he couldn't kill the flash without erasing himself, so he set out to make barry's life as much of a hell as he could, starting with the death of barry's mother.
as far as how he's immune to death, that too is tied to the comics. thanks to time travel shenanigans, he ended up as a living paradox, basically exempt from the idea of cause and effect. (he also became capable of killing barry without harming himself because of this if i recall, but nothing comes of it). he doesn't die because even if he dies, he can just keep going from a different point in his own personal timeline.
if they want to keep thawne around, you'd think they would just introduce this concept into the arrowverse at some point. heck, make it a version of thawne that's sorta kinda the comics thawne, with this living paradox ability, and still a very willing antagonist just because it means he gets to continue making life hell for a barry allen.

A constant problem with those shows has always been their love for it's own bs and inability to let go. Back when Arrow was winning down and yet strange stuff kept happening like a wholeass half a season of a future timeline sub-plot with new characters, Oliver being rumored to become the specter, a strange backdoor pilot all while still having even more subplots than Flash someone on twitter dumped a rumor/theory. That due to licensing and or work culture writers get a bonus for every original character, original version of a character or a plot on the show. I couldn't find a confirmation. But it's the only thing that makes sense to me. That's why family trees are shuffled. Why certain characters are merged together into a third character, why ideas made originally out of convenience are still there 5 seasons later. For example, according to that theory Caitlin Snow the Killer Frost Is a dc character, but Caitlin the Star Labs scientist who is actually nice but is struggling with her own Jacqueline and Hyde is somehow enough of the original character to ether escape the need for licensing/royalty ir to just give you a bonus. You can see why stuff like Wells and Weelsabort would be reused so much if that theory is true. But again no confirmation.

Their origin isn’t too far off from comics Eobard Thawne though. He’s petty, and he wants to be the Flash but he’s destined to be the opposite. That realization breaks him and he then devotes his life to ruining Barry’s life. They definitely could’ve come up with a better scenario in the show though than Barry “stealing the spotlight”. I agree that it was a pretty lame origin story but it does highlight how much of a sociopath he is at least.
