    I applied around a hundred jobs, but I did not receive any calls. I made a new resume as per your provided template, and thank you I received a call from a recruiter. My application was not proceeded to the interview stage as the clients requirements was different, however I am extremely grateful this resume really works.

On the top section, it says "Core strengths include" and includes things like "Phone and Online Support", "Complaint handling", "Office 365 support" etc. Even the top summary mentions "with experience in customer service, technical support, PC maintenance, and system administration."
    Considering I never had experience with a help desk job in the past(aside from the help desk hands on labs you provided), should I just not include these and replace them with strengths that I really have now? Kevin, I watched one of your old videos on the resume that got you over 100k. I noticed you had several bullet points for each job. Based on the advice that I have received from people who have looked over my resume, they said to only put about 4-5 bullet points. Also, the most recent person that revised my resume, which was online, said the way my resume is worded came across as a doer as opposed to an achiever because too many of my sentences are tasked based an not result based. I'm a beginner and and correct me if I'm wrong, but the way your resume is worded also describes you as a "doer". (not the resume on this video, but the resume on the video I mentioned above). What can you or anyone who reads this comment advise on this matter regarding the advice I have been given?

    • @KevtechITSupport
      @KevtechITSupport  2 роки тому +8

      I don't listen to people who fixes resumes that don't work in IT. If you want an honest opinion I would talk to a tech resume reviewer. Usually if the person has two jobs, I would put 3-4 bullet points on the 2nd job and add more bullet points on the 1st. For me is completely different because I been in IT for over 6 years and i haven't work regular IT Support jobs. My resume got me calls this whole year so there nothing wrong with my 2 page resume. Same goes with this resume for new techs. We have a bunch of people on discord that got jobs in IT using my resume for new techs. I look at results not what people think. Hopefully that makes sense. I wouldn't have my new job if it wasn't for my long essay resume. Managers look at it and immediately can tell that I'm a senior person.

    • @stephanrogers8947
      @stephanrogers8947 2 роки тому +1

      Whoever told you that is crazy. I've never heard of such a thing in my life and I've had over 30 jobs over the years. There's no 4-5 bullet point restriction. Your resume is designed to get you an interview. Nothing more. You want to show that you're competent and organized. That's it. Personally, if you have spelling mistakes and you don't know punctuation, I'd throw your resume in the trash, no matter what your bullet points say, because those two things already mean you weren't taking it seriously (for example, hypothetically). Kevin gets hired. You can TELL he gets hired. That's all you need to know. What he does at the level he's at works 100%. I can tell just by how he conducts himself in his youtube videos. Worry more about your cover letter than your resume, by the way. Also, get your actual interview skillset up to par. You don't even NEED bullet points. You think someone can't figure out what you did on your job just by looking at it. They want to see how you think.

      @@KevtechITSupport Okay, I got a phone interview using this template with my work experience, but was caught off guard when they asked me about the help desk portion. That section mentions online and phone support. How can we practice that using your labs? @franklynfeliz6577 you have to do a bit a research. Labs for IT Support can be anything like sccm, office 365 admin, ticketing system, mfa, really depends on the company. Pay in NY can go anywhere from 45k to over 100k if you have experience.

    Hi Kevin, I wanted to ask using this template. Do I need to include my entire 10 year work history or just the relevant it jobs I've had? One page resume or 3 pages with full employment history on this template? I got 7 months data center tech, 6 months desktop tech experiences combined for total IT. Trying to figure this stuff out lol

    • @KevtechITSupport
      @KevtechITSupport  Рік тому

      Keep it tech related. If you have previous tech experience. 2 pages is fine.

    • @nobodynothing1469
      @nobodynothing1469 Рік тому

      Ok, thank you! I edited the hyperlink with my own LinkedIn profile, and I have my full employment history shown on LinkedIn. If the hiring managers or HR or IT manager or whoever opens the LinkedIn, they can all see that. I've had a lot of rejections with a six month gap now vs. my last IT contract. With my old resume templates. I'm editing this template from this video right now on my MacBook to fill in my own details.
      If I have seven months of experience doing tier 1 and t2 data center technician work with three server rooms and thousands of severs, hundreds of racks, supported by myself and other server build technicians, do you think it's worth changing the help desk technician stuff to data center technician?
      The skills are still the same. Troubleshooting hardware and software on site remotely, building/racking/cabling/provisioning/deploying servers, testing hard fail and rma components/hardware, creating/closing/moving/editing/working/updating/researching tickets and many different ticket queues, some networking like pinging, bonding and unbonding network interfaces when customer requested downgrade or upgrade of their network speeds, IPMI, remote ssh and winadmin with RDP and PuTTY clients, walkthroughs of the PODs, tons of reports daily, DC projects, MS Word out look excel, lots of stuff in just seven months.
      Now, on top of that DC ops experience, for the new skills, I got your virtual box, DC server 2016 and desktop 1 and deskop2, with Patty and help desk and Scott and AD users/computers, print services, PDQ deployment and inventory, spiceworks cloud help desk with browser based everything, creating/deleting/moving users or computers or printers in AD, setting group policy permissions or changes, new CMD commands, changing passwords, unlocking AD accounts, searching entire directory, lots more things.
      Maybe I'm overthinking since it's been six months. I've been trying to get another support job of any kind until I progress into specialization and get specialized certifications. My previous background was years of retail, airports, automotive dealers, logistics work before IT. Like you said yours was restaurants.
      I don't listen to non IT people either on this this kind of stuff lol. I found out how badly and underpaid I was in my last contract compared to the FTE. The FTE started at tier 1 at $35 an hour for ibm, HCL paid my contract at 21. Big time rip off, man.
      I did some low level sys admin stuff already at my last data center. In the infrastructure management system, the automation had tons of hardware transactions running. The OS Installs always got stuck and manually needed to be pushed through and monitored with the license activation. I had to find the commands for the licenses and keys on JIRA each time. That was all I used jira and confluence for, just looking things up. I did that for Debian, centos, Windows server, and Linux machines
      What would you recommend? I feel the data center stuff would work against me for support type jobs like helpdesk or desktop support or service desk or it specialist. I learned a lot in a very short time being thrown into a burning dumpster fire that was out of control 😂
