How To Remove A Stuck Mangled Oil Filter
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лип 2024
- This is one way to remove a stuck mangled oil filter from a vehicle. Oil filters should be hand tightened and never over tightened thus preventing this issue.
Tools you’ll need:
A mig welder
A socket larger enough to freely go around the shaft the oil filter is screwed onto.
A Hudson sprayer or fire extinguisher (preferred)
Protective clothing to prevent sparks landing on your skin. Welding leathers preferred but I wore a hoodie.
Alternative-if you don’t have a welder:
Get a hacksaw to cut a groove in the rim of the filter to create a place for a chisel/screw driver to sit in. Hammer it out.
If you don’t have room for a saw take the blade off and tape one side for a handle. - Навчання та стиль
Nothing more infuriating than when a seemingly easy task turns into a multiple day event!!! Very nice fabrication though! Cheers, bro!
From Zero to Homestead exactly! One of the easiest things to maintain on a vehicle. Ugh.
I was more nervous about having yard art if I didn’t get that thing out. Lol
Thank you dear for sharing with us how to get out a stuck oil filter.
Billie we wanted to thank you so very much for your video on UA-cam now my husband can finally get oil filter off
Very innovative thinking Roman. Glad you got it done!
thanks for you’re information about clean the stucked mungled oil that’s very helpful if i will have one someday
Super big 👍! Hi Roman, great how to video! I learned something new today! I just had one changed on my Jeep! Keep up the great work my friend! Thank you for sharing! Hope you have a a great 4th of July! Take care and God bless! Animal Papa and Junior! 😎👍🙏
Glad you got it off...ive gotten some vehicles over the years that oil changes wer nightmares...ive always just hand tightened oil filters 😂
This is good information. Thanks for posting.
Nice work Roman! I have been there before! Love that blazer, those are so cool! I see those 4 wheel drive headers NICE! 👍💪🏽
3 Wheels & A Block it sounds pretty awesome. It’s a nice rig but I have to buy a truck. I was hoping to get a trailer but the wife and I decided a truck makes more sense. It sucks because I really want to keep it.
@@Staygoldfarms I understand, I had to get a truck, I am hoping to get another K5 once my girls get a little older.
Sweet fix
Thumbes up fully watch and sebed your channel
I have had to do that before. Thanks for sharing.. saw you on tree trimmer
Pond Predator Nation you welded too. Awesome!
ayee pretty innovative sir 🤙
Well what worked for me was first tearing it up to where he had it, then put 2 screws right across from eachother and as striaght as you can and drilling them in the holes just a 1/3 OR 1/4 of the screw in, NOT A LONG SCREW, short one, and then put a screw driver between them and turn it slowly
Great fix @Deer Park Farmstead
Hey Roman, nice to see your ok
Gabe Ramirez thanks Gabe. Well wishes my friend.
Nice vlog
Thumbs up, don't over tighten this one! Ty for sharing
Mighty Moe Excavating no way. Hand tightened and checked after test drive. No leaks. Thanks brother.
Stuck oil filters are a pain the back. Love the mud tires
I love that truck! Wow! You caught some grief from this project!! Awesome video sir!!
So much grief. I was working so many hours on Friday to try and get it loose. It was too hot yesterday. This morning was perfect so the plan worked. Stoked! See you soon brother
Thumbs up full watch 💕
Thank you! The very same thing just happened to me. Wasted a full day.
Hope you were able to fix it.
I have the same problem, even blue. But I don't have your tool, so this doesn't help me get it off. Might you know of a special socket like that to buy?
Use a hack saw to cut a groove and chisel it out.
Decap the filter (with a small dremel tool) and remove all that's inside. Make notch with a small cutting disk and knock it using a screw driver. It will start turning.
In my description I recommended doing that.
My name Billie and my husband and I have a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer Premier and I tried to do the oil change by myself and I mutalated the brand new oil filter and my husband is having the issue but this is the very first time we ever had this problem
I know this is late but I hope my video helped. The person that put the filter on tightened it way too tight. It should be hand tightened for the next oil change.
I have since sold the K5 but certainly learned from this experience. Kind regards
Been there. Done that brother. It's no fun especially if you end up with oil all over you!
James Clark I was a mess on Friday. Head to toe. I was so sore. Yesterday was way too hot so this morning worked perfect. Nice and cool.
👋 seem to me I’ve had the same thing happen to me before
Nice old blazer
Man that's crazy..good job on it though
It was crazy but you don’t know how great it felt when they filter started to turn. For real. Lol.
Omg I'm going thru this right now...!!!
Hope you have a welder or maybe use a hacksaw to cut a groove in the rim so you can use a chisel
I used a chisel but it is still stuck unfortunately. Have spent 6 hours for this but still have no working solution.
Hello deer 🙋♀️💐👍👍👍
There's a tool that fits up into the holes of the filter, might be called the talon or something. You probably could weld somethig similar up in minutes (using new filter as guide)
Anyway, you got it done without having to spend any money, I've seen guys had to get their car towed.
Like many I had to get this done stat so I’m glad I had everything i needed to get it done. Several people left comments having the same problem without a welder. I told them to cut a groove with a hack saw. It helped 👍
Stp oil filter wow
Hey new friends!! Had to connect I love Disney.. let's stick
Simply K.Simone I grew up near Disneyland. Went a lot as a child. I didn’t appreciate it like I do now. I took it for granted for sure. Have a great day. Visiting you now
I'm in the same exact boat, but can't weld
Use a hacksaw blade to cut a groove so you can chisel it out
Now THAT was a stuck filer.
It was indeed. The previous oil change guy/girl was not the brightest.
Been ther....hahaha
Damn, that was stuck.
You’re absolutely right. It was crazy tightened on there. This was the first oil change after I bought this K5. I have since sold it. It wasn’t working for us on the farm. It cleaned it up a lot.
Few things in life are as aggravating than a stuck oil filter or make you cuss more.
Pondamn's Outdoors I was actually laughing at this one because it was the worst luck. Beyond aggravated.
At least I got to use my welder. Lol. I like making yard art but this is crazy.
@@Staygoldfarms as long as the beast is going to be ok. Dr Deer Park has operated and fixed the problem. Long live the beast.
Haha. The beast is doing well. I’ll give him your best.
@@Staygoldfarms Bahahahaha please do. Tell him he has my admiration for going through that process and coming out on top. Lol
You weren’t scared of the remaining oil catching on fire???
Nah, I wiped it down quite a bit before. Watched the surface after every weld in 4 spots around the socket. It’s aluminum you’re welding on and is clinging the surface at best.

That’s me right now. Idk what to do
Isaac Michael do you have a welder?
Deer Park Farmstead unfortunately I don’t . Only a hammer and screwdriver
Try a hacksaw to cut a groove on the outer rim and chisel/hammer it loose. Sorry you’re going through this. It sucks.
Did you have any luck?
Try our new filter removal tool, the best on the market! ua-cam.com/video/L4qGt4xUqrc/v-deo.html
Technically there shouldn’t be a tool for this because the filters shouldn’t be tightened on like that to begin with. This was the first oil change on this vehicle after I bought it.
I have 3 plus a tractor and never encountered this. Glad my buddy recommended doing this.
I mean that’s nice if you have a welder but, most people don’t!!! How about showing us how to get it off with just everyday tools!!!
I mention in comments to use a hacksaw to cut a groove. A chisel or screw driver and hammer could help spin out.
believe me or not iam in this shit right now only problem is i dont have a welder its 8pm and i need my car in the morning crap
Peter Spidus get a hacksaw and cut a groove in the rim to hammer and chisel it out.
If we could share pics I’ll show you where m I :D
No room? You can’t get a hacksaw blade in there either? Tape one end for a handle
Dude thank u sooo much just finishe it :D cut the groove- screw driver-hammer and lots of sweat :D Hey man it is only the rubber seal that holds so tight :D new filter I will tighten easy hahahha
Right on. Glad it worked. Glad to help bro. It’s a scary situation and good to know others have been through it.
