They straight pull ones look pretty juicy and a solid price. Any word on coming out in multiple colors? I would imagine it'll be based on the success of the black ones selling. Nice vid btw Lost Co.
One of the biggest selling points is the emphasis on maintainability. It's easy to forget about the importance of such things until months or years later, so it's good to see that it's built not just for the ride, but also a good experience in the workshop.
So I replaced my rear on my Commencal to a full Spank rim and hub. Although I don't have the ability to tell the difference between rims, these hubs have been great over the course of a year. One thing I've been searching for but have not heard is comparing coast speeds with these high engagement hubs. I guess it's understood that more engagement means a slower coast downhill... Just know that I love the fact that these feel great to pedal and I have to break when coasting behind my buddy with the I9 Hyras. Also means less pedaling when rolling to the next climb, important benefit with these heavy enduros.
Marginal gains are still gains! Glad you're stoked on the hubs after running them for a year, Mike has been on his since the video came out and still hasn't had any issues!! -Tor
If you can get the rear hub with a Micro Spline body, as shown in the video, why isn't one offered or even mentioned in the product information on your website?
@@YanDoroshenko I guess my question is why isn't it a "stock" option, you shouldn't have to buy an HG or XD hub and then spend more on the driver body you need, it should just be offered right off the bat.
Hey Katie! Spank just released these this week and we're still waiting on part numbers to be able to put them on our website. We were told this will of course be an option, just waiting on the SKU's! Most likely all hub manufacturers releasing new hubs will have this as an option stock 🤘
Just ordered a shock from you today and looks like I might have to get you to build a rear wheel on these for me. Keep killing it with the great videos!
For me as a bigger more powerful rider I need high engagement because with lower engagement hubs I blow chains apart. Been running Hadley forever but I’m thinking about these for a new bike with boost spacing.
@TheLostCo. These look like a insane value with exceptional performance! Did you stop carrying Project 321 because of all their leaking and skipping issues?
Dude! You made the perfect video for me at the perfect time. I have low engagement hubs on my bike and want to move up and these look perfect. I really like the design, reinforcement, and adaptability. Here is my question: Do I need to update both the front and rear or would that just be cosmetic/weight?
Pro: Spank took advantage of these huge cassettes to push the drive side flange out 2.5mm wider. Con: No steel axle, no centerlock mount, ratchet mech is loud.
To bad that it doesn't exist 20x110mm Center-Lock Front Hub I'm really VERY upset My fork Suntour SR DUROLUX RC DS 20QLC2 27.5" on my Merida One Sixty 600 model 2018 have 20 x 110 mm axle, and a hub with IS 6 bolts I don't like the 6 bolts model hubs :( :|
Great video as usual. A request... Can you guys post a video on why and how much air loss is expected on tubeless tires in between rides, storage, etc... what's normal and what could indicate a problem...
I think this depends on the rim. I have a friend that has the same rims as me. We both have cushcore installed as well. He has to air his tires before almost every ride. I can sometimes go 2 weeks before I start to even notice low pressure.
Yes it's true that Spank makes a singlespeed dirt jumper hub but I don't think it's "Hex", so it won't have the 3.5 degree engagement, but rather a 15 degree engagement (but please someone correct me if I'm wrong)! Pretty tempted to replace my low engaging DT Swiss 370 (10 degrees) and totally worn freehub body with one of these on my full sus though.
They hit it outta the park! My next build is rocking these! Only thing I don't like are the excessive tattoos. Also these rear hubs are selling without a hub body. This is gonna add to the price which kinda sucks!!!
Are those used in Nukeproof's Horizon V2 wheels? Pretty sure they look the same (slightly different finish and branding ofc), especially the insides, and they have the same engagement and price point.
I doubt I would buy these hubs for a custom wheels build, because if I'm spending that much money I'm going onyx for sure. But these hubs with spank hoops will make an unbeatable complete wheelset you can just buy.
Is there any reason other than color that you would go with the Hopes over these? I’ve seen some people questioning durability of the Spanks and I know the Hopes are solid.
It looks to me like the ring with all the teeth is a separate piece that screws into the hub body. Is there a way to simple replace the teeth with the hex drive one on a standard spank spike hub?
Hmm...hey look an awful lot like novatec hubs, very similar to Hunt Wheels in the UK. I'd much rather have a set of Hope's for not much more cash. All that aside, brilliant video, Mike.
Hubs $99 + $199.Decent Aluminum rims $80 x2. Spokes $60. Rim tape $22 Spoke nipples $20 + wheel tension expertise/time Total wheel set $570 if hand built. I dunno a pre-made wheel set just sounds more convenient and they come with warranties.
Is there more rolling resistance with these? I'm looking into getting a nice set of wheels for my cheap ass bike and want to roll like a boss. I can see the pros of this type of hub but are there any cons?
Hey Jame! We tried as hard as we could to find some cons to these hubs but we had a really hard time! Mike has been using these hubs since this video came out with zero issues so we still highly recommend these hubs! -Tor

My current setup is a 15x100mm TA front and 12x142mm TA rear. I know I'm stuck with a non-boost rear but is it true that the front hub comes standard as a 100mm but with adapters that can easily make it a 110mm boost if needed? I only ask because fork these days are mostly boost 110mm and when I decide to upgrade my fork in the future, I don't want to be buying a new front hub Also my current freehub is the standard Shimano HG for 10s. Could I easily swap the freehub body from an HG to MS or XD in the future?
The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.
They're made in Spain, or atleast the rims are anyway. Europe also has pretty good manufacturing too. Think Hope, Nukeproof, Magura, Commencal, YT, etc
Do you guys think Spank did a good job with their new Hex Drive Hubs? 🤔
Absolutely, is there anything else at that price with that weight and engagement?
They straight pull ones look pretty juicy and a solid price. Any word on coming out in multiple colors? I would imagine it'll be based on the success of the black ones selling. Nice vid btw Lost Co.
Yes and I want one now. You wasted that fern bro 6:04!!!
How do these size up to the i9 hydra's?
Why is there no MicroSpline variant on your website?
When you think the intro is the whole video because of the production value.

I....that intro sold me on these hubs, man.
These look great, I’m 14 and this really helps as I have been looking for a straight pull hubs that are strong and cheap. They fit the bill perfectly

These look amazing big fan of the service ability like doing maintainance on my bike and not needing no pricey tools 👍
These hubs will be a best seller here in the Philippines. Hopefully tax doesn't kill it. Spank did it!
Whatever Mike is on when he films himself, I also want to take it. 🤣

Very nice Mike! I always got lot of ideas from your you tube channel.. excellent presentation!

Biggest benefit has to be, you don't need a bell.
Spank hubs are amazing. Indestructible as well. Been using it for my bronson and Im very satisfied with it.
Also, the CSR's at Spank are awesome. My wheelset didn't come with the endcaps that fit my bike. One email got the correct size out to me for free.

Love Spank stuff... their rims are awesome.
Nice to see some good looking hubs coming from Spank 🤘

Definitely gonna look into getting a set of these hubs. Awesome video man🤘

So good haha, thanks. I'm sold.

Picked up a Hope Pro 4 for $162.00 a month ago. Nice Spank hub though.

Are those used in Nukeproof's Horizon V2 wheels? Pretty sure they look the same (slightly different finish and branding ofc), especially the insides, and they have the same engagement and price point.
apparently yes
The first time I think the Hydra hub is an overkill
Sounds good, and total price with build ?
They’re exactly like the Dartmoor 102 V2 Hub
So affordable, but still sound like a swarm of robot bees. Can’t wait for affordable quiet hubs with high engagement.
These look pretty awesome! Will they be selling prebuilt wheel sets using these hubs with their own rims?
Yeah u can get these hubs with the 359 vibrocore wheelset

Just got a set of wheels for my e bike? With the high engagement will I be possibly be snapping more chains ? Will there be to much torque to fast?

How many rear hubs have you sold and how many came back ? Are they better than previous version ?
