    Thanks Braddah’s I’m a sucker for a good pack. I’ve tried kifaru, stone glacier, and mystery ranch. I would rank them I. That order for my body style and back/ back issues. I will be ordering an initial ascent from you guys next week just because of this podcast. Thanks for all that you guys share with all hunting gear. I’m born and raised in Hawaii and hunt year round. Every week I chase pigs with dogs and haul meat, also bow hunt a lot for goat pig, sheep, and wild cow. If ur ever on the big island hit me up I would take you guys on a hunt 🤙🏽

      Glad you got a lot of value out of this podcast! We love talking backpacks and what has worked for us. You'll really enjoy that Initial Ascent backpack. Not going to lie... being able to hunt year round sounds amazing! We gotta venture that way someday and would love to experience what Hawaii has to offer for adventure.

      I have the big Exo K4 bag and felt a huge difference between that and my MR Marshall. To be fair, my Marshall is a few years older and not on their newer Guide Lite MT frame, but the Exo carried weight so well in Idaho last year. I was the weakest link (sucking wind with 60+ lbs on my back) but the bag was comfortable! I absolutely recommend the K4. And on that topic- just get the big one! I always find I appreciate having the space and just cinching it down once it's packed up.

    Loved the LOTR references in the beginning even if it did go a little long. lol 😆 🧙‍♂️
    I am glad that you all are starting to carry more options than just Stone Glacier and Mystery Ranch. Albeit those are great packs themselves.
    Since I found an Eberlestock F7 Kite 🪁 in their Outlet Store for $150 a couple years ago I went that route. It’s a 3000 cubic in day pack that has its own harness but there’s no load shelf. However it can be separated from the harness and attached to the F1 Mainframe. Sadly it’s by using those spring clips or gateway clips which would be difficult to use in the cold 🥶 but otherwise not bad. The Mainframe is an external frame that is very modular and Eberlestock has a ton of options to put on that frame. I know that it will haul weight even though I haven’t tested that out myself YET. Hopefully 🤞🏻 when I get to Utah on my muzzleloader general deer 🦌 hunt I will. 😊 I ended also getting their Vapor 7500 on the Outlet Store a year after I got the Kite 🪁 for $150 and it is HUGE and pretty minimalist.

    So, what we learned in this episode is that Brady is a fake Tolkien fan because he doesn't know the lore behind why they couldn't use the eagles and he thinks Rings of Power is good.

    • @brady_j_miller
      @brady_j_miller 4 місяці тому +3

      I know, I know :( The eagle part always makes me laugh when people bring that up, and it does make me cringe when people talk about it too. Which is mainly why I brought it up. And I'm just a big LOTR fan... so I eat up anything, but I would definitely agree Rings of Power wasn't that great, but it was better than some other shows on the web and so I did like parts of it :)

    I’m an Eberlestock fan myself. But they are way behind in the game. They are way to stuck on the fact that their F1 frame did not break until they loaded it with over 1000 pounds. It’s in you tube. But they could cut a shit ton of weight if they made a frame that was good to 300 pounds. I’m still hard to find a guy that is packing 300 pounds on their back. They are coming along but way behind. I think they need some help in their design department.they are very close on a few packs but still just missing the boat on the hunting packs.!

  • @tsnellyville

    The Exo K4 pack is very solid and so is the new Kifaru w the Ark frame. I’ve run SG a ton also. I am really liking the carbon frame sheets (Kifaru/IA) vs vertical stays (Exo/SG). Trail eluded to this and I agree, that the carbon frame sheets carry and disperse heavy loads much better than vertical stay frames. The Kifaru hip belt is probably the best for keeping the pack on your hips and not sagging. The center stitch in the hip belt is something to pay attention to. Under load and over distance, you can feel it. Not enough to stop you, but enough to let you know it’s there. Plus side of that is, the belt does not sag. Every other option mentioned, minus the Initial Ascent, will sag a bit under load. I have an Initial Ascent on the way and am looking forward in comparing it to the Kifaru. IMO, Kifaru and the IA will out haul all the rest. The Kifaru will have a little more torsional movement vs the IA, but IA has made some changes to the frame to allow a bit more “flex” into the frame.
    Good pod gents and I am curious to see your follow up after you have hiked in the new packs w weight.

      Backpack weight savings isn't always the answer. Efficiently on how the load is carried is much more important. There's some great comparison videos that show that the kuiu pack doesn't carry weight well and takes more effort than a pack like exo or kifaru

    Wow, carry a product line and know nothing about them? Been using my Eberlestock mainframe for 10 years and it has no wear, packed out dozens of big game, and is still the best load carrying pack I've ever seen. You like packs with a dedicated shelf and modular? It's literally called the Eberlestock Modular system. Crazy to post a video about products you know nothing about.

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  4 місяці тому +1

      As you noticed and pointed out, Trail and Brady are not the guys in the office that use Eberlestock packs. So they don't have deep thoughts on the packs. And with those two not using them, they don't have much to say about the pack, but realize there are people out there like yourself who love them. Other people in our office who work in the e-commerce store are well verced in these packs and have used them with great success. Which is why this is an honest look and Trail and Brady would agree with you that they don't know much about Eberlestock. Appreciate you watching the video.

    Always love a technical breakdown podcast. Whether boots packs or any gear. I have a kuiu LT 7000 pack that I got on sale and I like it. I’m interested in the SG terminus 8700, do you think it’s too niche of a pack with others being better all arounders?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words!! The Terminus might be too niche of a backpack for most people, but it does have it's place when looking to save weight or on early season high country hunts. Brady has used it on successful deer hunts, an aoudad hunt and a black bear hunt. So it does shine in the mountains! And it's one of his favorite backpacks of all time.
