I don’t like the fuel in frame design, seems to me it would cause excessive weight shift during braking, turning, etc. from the fuel surging forward and side to side, which could change the CG(center of gravity), say you have 3 gallons that suddenly surges ANY direction, at 6 pounds per gallon, that’s 18 pounds of weight shifting! On a relatively light vehicle, 650 pounds wet, including the rider, that’s a HUGE, and largely unexpected variable. Again, my opinion/observation, but I’m also not a rocket surgeon either.
Nice review mate👍was awesome hearing you catching your buell bug😂👌 that's the thing with buell, not the fastest, not the smoothest, not the most elegant, mine twitches all over the place! but I wouldn't trade my buell for anything! A bike you have to really ride, no abs, no traction control, just a donk of an engine with as you say less than average front brakes! Love it!! I know you can get them but seems a shame they didnt release a twin rotor setup to modernize and hopfully balance out the front braking system. As you say can be a bit scary at times but that forced learning curve is what keeps me in love with it😂😂😂! Enjoying your vids man, you've just gained another sub👍
A little tip for the front brakes, lock the lever in the depressed position overnight with a zip tie and I promise that squishing lever will be as solid as a rock on track day after you release it
@@bodied93toy66 I have five Buells including a 2008 1125R. The ONLY reason the brakes faded is that the rider rode a bike that he did not FIRST sort out the brake fluid and pads before riding the track. He then has the temerity to belittle the Buell rather than man up to it being solely his fault, not Buell. Next item is fuel in the frame complaint from a non-owner. @yammienoob. I've been tracking Buells for the greater part of a decade, and I can tell you with 100% certainty what you felt on this isn't normal on Buell standards. brake fade does happen, but not within 3 laps like this. 10-15laps on a really hot day maybe. I suspect that system isn't bled properly.
@@thetemplar8695 - It would be better to have a spare wheel/rotor than swap rotors 'under race conditions', but a spare rotor was a good call as some would warp from time to time....
I club raced the 1125R and noted that on hot days you really had to keep an eye on front tire pressure, cuz some rotor heat transfers directly to the rim and can raise pressure quite a bit - but maybe that was just me....brake fade after just a couple of laps is something I did not see tho.
Buell has tried twin disc brembos, twin perimiter discs, and the single always performed the best on the track. There's something wrong with either the fluid boiling over or the pad material, not the design itself.
Hope you look and see what type and condition pads are with a tester demo. Also some suspension setting stuff, if some quirks can be diled out. Just want the best light for it. Love what Buell does and want them to excell. They would be in a different place if Harley wasnt so stupid. They need to be strong and show they can fight through some lows. They have had their fair share in a short time. Lots of people are there for this great company i think we will be rewarded when Buell is properly on its feet again
They've spent years trying conventional twin disc's, dual perimeter brake, but the single always performed. There's something for sure wrong with the fluid boiling over or the pads been street pads. Easy/cheap 15min fix though.
Yeah man, I'm right with you. Hurts hearing about it in a almost bad light. They should have given him the super cruiser 😅 This is probably their last big go and they put a lot together without the millions of dollars in r & d like the big 4 its surely getting compared too. Last American sport bike company that's trying..
@jordanlabre in the next few years I'm pretty optimistic, but I think the Super Cruiser will undoubtedly be class leading no matter what. 💯 buying one. The biggest concern I have though is if they want to get into GP it'll never happen due to the crazy aero engineering, and all the little cheats they use.
@@backroadbeetle4781 I agree with that! It's a sick bike and super light. In very curious about it. I have a gen 2 vmax and the biggest downside is it's weight and there isn't much to do about it either. Almost the same power but hundreds less lbs!
A major "magazine" tested essentially the same bike vs an 1198 Panigale (9 years ago) at a racetrack and the EBR (Buell) did not suffer the brake fade issues your bike did. I strongly suspect that your particular bike had an issue having nothing to do with the brake's basic design. You do your viewers a disservice in summarily criticizing the design as the cause of it's poor performance. Have the front brake reviewed by a tech that is familiar with this design to ferret out what's wrong and take the bike back to the track. Seems only fair.
Install a set of SBS 856ds or Vesrah race pads, will be a night and day difference in brake performance. Bleeding the brakes with good fresh fluid is required for sustained track use. Something is not setup properly, been racing and doing track days for nine years on my 2014 EBR 1190rx. bike is rock solid and stable, and totally predictable when setup properly. Never experienced any of the issues you are experiencing with mine. Better tires would be beneficial. Rear shock upgrade works wonders too.
Glad to hear it's likely a relatively minor issue, not a serious design flaw. Been looking forward to seeing how the new Buell performed. Sounds like an awesome and torquey street bike. YN was clearly impressed on the street driving. I suspect you're spot on and it just needs quality pads and flush/bleeding. Great but brutally honest review.
They should be close, performance wise. I own a 1125r and I rode a RC51. My bike has about 130 hp at the wheel and if I remember the Honda with mods was around same. The stock gearing was a bit to high and a lot of people changed the gearing to make it better.
I still miss my 2000 RSV Mille, back when no one had even heard of an April-Who? The days, when the lack of traction control meant v-twins ruled the corners, even more so than they do today.
The original EBR 1190 had cooling ducts around the breaking system to help keep the calipers cool. You can't make the same bike for 10 years without any further development, but I hope that they do keep on developing, and send them to europe in the future.
You keep stating it’s cable throttle, you’ll find it has cables going to a throttle position sensor and it’s fly by. They do this because it gives a more natural feel and progression to the throttle. If it’s got bi directional quick shift it can’t be cable operated as the ecu has to blip it

There is something wrong with the brakes. Might need a flush and bleed with new pads. Ive never rode an 1190 but i track my 1125R and have Incredible brakes with no fade. From my understanding its the same brake systems
My old 1125R never had brake fade issues. It had the ZTL2 with the 8-piston caliper… Essentially the same system. Something must be wrong with the bike.
I've read quite a few buell reviews and never have i ever heard anything complain about the brakes. Obviously something is wrong with that bike. Send it back let then figure out whats wrong and then give it a fair shakedown

Thanks for being honest, Yam. 99% of the people who buy this will never reach the limits you reached in this video. Old school tells the story. Technology has moved on and the Buell needs to embrace the best parts of it.
Lmao!!! Yeah. So basically not having the unbelieavably relyable safety net of modern ABS, is a bit concerning to a modern sport rider. You guys are spoiled, and riding a 2023 GSXR, I can totally see why... the stupid thing blurps the throttle every time I shift for me. WFT?
@@lfinsterlHonestly he can’t ride that bike to the limit. That bike a very skilled, bike feeling type of rider and a very strong one too. The bike is an absolute animal. He would have been doing nothing but wheelies had he really been in it!!
Thanks for sharing. I've aways wanted a Buell because they've always been different. However, for a modern machine at this price point I would expect a fly by wire throttle with a blipper.
In theory the brake design has massive power. Something seems off with the execution on this one. Pads, fluid? The huge rotor size has both power and cooling benefits over the usual sizes. Only oddity is the 8 pots - maybe too many and the force/pressure is too spread out or too much fluid exposed to a heatet surface. Four pot might have been better choice, with more common pad size so race pads can be installed for track days.
It's essentially the same setup that dates back to the Buell(pre-EBR) 1125R, and they have never had a reputation for fading like this - gotta be something setup/maintenance related
Wonder if they changed the pad material, the EBR's didn't have front brake issues unless it was really hot out. I know the guys that track these swap the master for a brembo rcs19 and use either versa XX or SBS DS pads.
Sounds like a mechanical. I'm friends with one of the guys that did the promo video for that bike. His personal bike is an EBR(same bike basically). That bike will stop on a dime and corners like no other. I have an xb9 with the same brakes. Never had any issues like that at all.
As far as I know, Suzuki motorcycles are known to have this fading effect on braking and people usually solve this by replacing the original braking hoses with braided ones (aeroquip). Considering that the fading came right at the beginning, it may be an issue with this specific unit (bleeding, hoses, fluid, and so on) but it would be good to know how this issue was sorted out.
Hey Buell lovers! Don't forget that Buell has quite a fan base in Europe, making the brand live here. If someone from the Buell department is reading this, please consider selling your amazing bikes here, that would be great! Thank you for the video, have a nice day and enjoy the good American vibes of your Buell ✌️
I was 100% in on buying one. After this, I definitely don't want anything to do with a bike that has shitty brakes, especially on a track. I'll give em 6 more years to figure things out.
I agree with some of the gentleman who suggested a chain in brake fluid would give you more feel and confidence. But, that BUELL is just good ol' American muscle. It should be scary. But the object is for YOU to make it better. Go turn some wrenches YN!
I agree with the comments below. The extreme break fade doesn't make sense. The perimeter disk has more mass than a conventional disk and should heat up slower for the same energy input. I suspect you had air in the lines. Did you contact Buell? What did they say?
i tracked the 1125r and had to flush my brakes at the end of every day, would make sure i had fresh fluid before any race, the brake fade is a severe problem and never really found a fix for it other than maybe a conversion to a bigger caliper, one bonus was i never warped a front rotor on my buell, but changed rotors on my daytona pretty regularly it seemed
Does the fuel fill the length of the frame ? Wouldn't that effect handling more since the liquid would be sloshing from beneath the seat to the steering stem and back
The brake part surprises me. Granted my buell is a 2003 but unless if they’ve dipped in quality something might be off with the brakes. Breaking has been a strength for mine, but id do some googling or forum searches because that just seems off to me.
If your brake lever is going all the way down, it's definitely got a bubble in the lines. Would be interested to see what a bleeding looked like on this particular bike.
I’ve got a 2006 XB12r myself and found the same issue with the brakes; changing the engagement setting on the lever made the world of difference tho from 1-5 I keep it on 3 and get more aggressive braking overall (to be expected) where as before it was very underwhelming tbh
It feels like this is a great example of, (especially if it's a brand brand new model) Make sure before you give it to a large youtuber to review, make sure a full service and check including all fluids brake pads, and bleed, has been done first.
If I remember correctly, they raced these in MotoAmerica and the teams had to remove that rotor and use a conventional rotor, because it didn’t work at all.
'Don't think that's accurate, my friend.. There's a UA-cam vid titled 'EBR1190RS vs GSXR 1000' when Buell raced with HERO sponsorship. Look close at this race; stock perimeter brake on their race bike at Homestead. Yammie Noob will soon learn it was a simple bleeding/pad issue or something. Cheers
Sounds like Roland Sands needs to shake this down for a bit. I believe he's part of the team over there,I'm sure they'll get the quirks out. Maybe the brakes need a blead.
I owned a 2008 1125R and dear God was that bike a PITA...... I paid around 10k new and 3 months later, Harley liquidated then for 5k brand new. Talk about being upside down..... Stock it was a turd. Couldn't get it to idle, it would just kill over sometimes. Then a couple of years later EBR released the race ECU and that changed the tuning issues to perfect. However, it had the same brakes this one had and they were scary... The rear brake was a joke all together and shouldn't even be there. The engine provided a lot of the braking. It was a super fun bike torque wise, but man did it feel cheap. The handlebars and stuff were just like toys.
I can still out run most everything on the track .. sound like you didnt have it set up right and i have never faded the brakes but i dont run stock pads so
@yammienoob so disappointing, I was looking forward to this bike. Thanks for the honest review. Would be great to see a follow up or response from @Buell
Best practice is to not base your opinions on a singular review, I've reviewed this bike HEAVILY before getting it, and as you can also read in the comments the general concensus is his bike in PARTICULAR has some type of problem and it's not a wide spread issue of its design. Granted I don't have a track around me so I haven't personally track tested it, however the breaks on my buell are some of the better brakes out there, and watching any other reviewer no one else seems to be having this problem. It's a fantastic bike you should still consider it
@@majinbroly7886 Thank you, that explains a lot. Brake fade? Twenty years ago, the XB9 came out with that giant disc and I thought that was super clever: shift brake stress away from the spokes onto the rim itself, it enables a lighter wheel and it left all the journalists impressed. I don't remember any mention of a brake fade problem.
Buell let him run it back. Somethings up the pads or maybe master cylinder failure idk but what you experienced is not normal. Worst I’ve done is warp disc and I was being much more abusive/aggressive on the brakes. Never experienced fade even warping the disc never had fade.
You’re deluding yourself if you think the brakes were fading at a fast street pace like you were riding… Okay, you don’t like the feel but you were nowhere near that bike’s potential….. I’m an RS owner, trust me, the brakes weren’t fading. It’s you getting arm pump or whatever. If fade were an issue you’d have had it all day and not just the corners you blew and needed an excuse for.
disappointing, i like the idea of what the bike is, it’s different, but it falls short. hopefully they planned on the first iteration being a test and fix it with the next iteration and keep the brand going
The problem with American motorcycles brand new from a dealership is; Companies only focus on saving money in building the product not getting the most performance out of the design, and then sell for 3 times the amount.

I have the 2014 ebr 1190 rx,( track only) the most exciting thing I do with my clothes on❤
A proper brake flush/bleed and some stainless lines may help the brakes immensely.
brake flush for sure. Buells sell with full stainless lines as stock.
They will get there, be patient.
This bike has been in development for a decade lol
As far as I know, Suzuki motorcycles are known to have this fading effect on braking and people usually solve this by replacing the original braking hoses with braided ones (aeroquip).
Considering that the fading came right at the beginning, it may be an issue with this specific unit (bleeding, hoses, fluid, and so on) but it would be good to know how this issue was sorted out.
Think you'll review the Buell super cruiser?
The outro never fails to impress
Lil Yam do you like the brakes?
Hey Buell lovers!
Don't forget that Buell has quite a fan base in Europe, making the brand live here. If someone from the Buell department is reading this, please consider selling your amazing bikes here, that would be great!
Thank you for the video, have a nice day and enjoy the good American vibes of your Buell ✌️
they are going to real soon actually!
@@backroadbeetle4781 I can't wait!
@DeBarbellian gunna be maximum badassery riding one in Europe haha, it's like driving a ZR1 Corvette there 🤣
🎉🎉 Definitely a Thumper 🎉🎉
I had an 1125R, this sounds just like🫶🏻
My 08 XB12R also has the odd frame/brake shaking your described. After looking into it, a lot of people said it was normal on these bikes.
It's not normal. Don't forget you got an old bike and there are a number of things that could be wrong with it.
@@IshamPadron but that 1190 is brand new and doing the same thing. Maybe it's they big single rotor?
I was 100% in on buying one. After this, I definitely don't want anything to do with a bike that has shitty brakes, especially on a track. I'll give em 6 more years to figure things out.
Once I get the slipper clutch installed I'll let you do some laps on my bike. Let me know if you're ever on the East Coast. I ride at NJMP
Best thing Buell ever did! Dump crappy HD motors!😊
2 Buells in my garage. 0 brake issues... ever
Would love to try that out on track. Dunno if I'd wanna own one tho.
i tracked the 1125r and had to flush my brakes at the end of every day, would make sure i had fresh fluid before any race, the brake fade is a severe problem and never really found a fix for it other than maybe a conversion to a bigger caliper, one bonus was i never warped a front rotor on my buell, but changed rotors on my daytona pretty regularly it seemed
What kind of suspension setup did you do? What kind of brake package do you recommend upgrading to?
My breaks work fine 😅 but I haven't taken her to the track yet. Spent 2023 just breaking her in.
When ebr was racing these 1190's they actually used dual disc set ups. I think they were off a gsxr.
I almost bought one EBR 1190R with 1600 miles on it for 7k I should have bought it.
@majinbroly7886 that's why i hesitated to buy it no parts support
i live about 30 miles from that track and never seen actually seen it other than driving by the front gates on the way to the casino.
Does the fuel fill the length of the frame ? Wouldn't that effect handling more since the liquid would be sloshing from beneath the seat to the steering stem and back
Thanks Yammie you saved me making the mistake of buying one of these. S1000 rr for me.
Lmao
The brake part surprises me. Granted my buell is a 2003 but unless if they’ve dipped in quality something might be off with the brakes. Breaking has been a strength for mine, but id do some googling or forum searches because that just seems off to me.
Braking* 😅
How are the brakes?
How was the clutch lever pull
If your brake lever is going all the way down, it's definitely got a bubble in the lines. Would be interested to see what a bleeding looked like on this particular bike.
Why is impossible to find video reviews about Buell baja Dr? 🤔🤔
I’ve got a 2006 XB12r myself and found the same issue with the brakes; changing the engagement setting on the lever made the world of difference tho from 1-5 I keep it on 3 and get more aggressive braking overall (to be expected) where as before it was very underwhelming tbh
Awesome video yammie.
Can you please review the benelli bn 125cc, thinking of getting it as my first ever. Thanks ❤️
Cheers
@@moto9492Have to agree with you mate. Surprised the sweet potato didnt figure the possibility of a mechanical issue.
Brakes... change hoses?
Change the bike...problem solved
What Track is this you go to?
what track is this?
Sounds like Roland Sands needs to shake this down for a bit. I believe he's part of the team over there,I'm sure they'll get the quirks out. Maybe the brakes need a blead.
Yeah, I know you wanted to love it.😮 what’s a good bike that has great brakes that’s a pretty reasonable price tag? yammie Noob thank you bro
When is the last time you had a similar weight/speed bike on track?
Color scheme is wicked, like rc 30
I had an ebr 1190 and i warped my disc on track.
Hey yammy again if you see this i plead to you to try a sv1000s they are absolutely incredible
S l o w
I wouldn’t blame the brakes too much on the actual system, but probably just needs the appropriate pads.
okay now we want a rematch. Since you both had a recent no brakes on track, you and gigzerbrehz, no brakes allowed.
Sounds like the brake fluid is dodge, had the same issue with my xb, flushed the system and it was a world of difference
Love your reviews.
Sounds like you have air in your lines dude.. get a proper brake bleed. Surprised you didn't pit immediately
I didnt think open mirrors were allowed on any track
He’s a member at the track and it’s not a track day per say, it’s a random day during the week
What is ttthat speed dependent whine? It’s not the motor, is it gearing, wheel hubs, brake pads, tires?
The whine is from an idler sprocket, totally normal.
@@Motomack1042 thanks.
i wish someone compare this Buell against Avinton Track Racer T
I can still out run most everything on the track .. sound like you didnt have it set up right and i have never faded the brakes but i dont run stock pads so
Anyone know what that whining/whirring sound coming from the bike when he lets off the throttle is? I love it
Drive chain tensioner (removes the slack / chain slap on deceleration)
He says he doesn’t feel fast on that thing…problem is he’s not fast on anything!
Put a real rider with balls and no excuses and see what happens!
A little adjustment , steering damper , proper suspension set up would make it better
😂😂😂😂
It's a fantastic bike you should still consider it
More track reviews!!
I had no idea Buell still exists. Edit: Ah: they don't, not in Europe.
I thought HD discontinued Buell years ago? DAFUQ?
Watch the previous video. He Yam goes over that
Buell is not a part of HD anymore
Buell let him run it back. Somethings up the pads or maybe master cylinder failure idk but what you experienced is not normal. Worst I’ve done is warp disc and I was being much more abusive/aggressive on the brakes. Never experienced fade even warping the disc never had fade.
As soon as those shower head injectors come online, all hell breaks loose😍
Nothing happens. Its fast if your prev bike was a harley. 15 year old German/Japanese/Italian bikes are faster than this steam engine 😂
@hexagonosaurus5848 are you speaking from experience?
You’re deluding yourself if you think the brakes were fading at a fast street pace like you were riding… Okay, you don’t like the feel but you were nowhere near that bike’s potential….. I’m an RS owner, trust me, the brakes weren’t fading. It’s you getting arm pump or whatever. If fade were an issue you’d have had it all day and not just the corners you blew and needed an excuse for.
disappointing, i like the idea of what the bike is, it’s different, but it falls short. hopefully they planned on the first iteration being a test and fix it with the next iteration and keep the brand going
At last a US bike maker that actually knows what bikes are supposed to be.😊
Looks like it needs the front end off of a Panigale with the BPF forks to be competent.
The problem with American motorcycles brand new from a dealership is; Companies only focus on saving money in building the product not getting the most performance out of the design, and then sell for 3 times the amount.
