Those Buell's were such a monsterously great bike platform. They really allowed a good rider to pull corners off in a fastion that no bike has any business doing. Absolutely insane.
The braking set-up on the EBR is amazing....I used to work at a HD dealership in early 2000's and was able to test ride an XB1200....one finger braking or be prepared to be thrown over the handlebars.
Holy cow what a race! Amazing how Eslick just threw that bike around like that. Never seen a motorcycle handle that way and kep thinking he was going to slide that front end out.
I loved every single one of Eric Buell's motorcycles. I don't understand how a bike this good could not sell?! Even the XB's with the archaic Harley engine were not only sexy looking, but boy were they good fun! It's now kind of ironic that Harley is having a heck of a time capturing the minds of younger buyers. In my opinion closing down Buell was a short term gain with long term consequences. RIP Buell Motorcycle Company.
I can tell you that very few dealerships ever tried selling or pushing the Buell's. I remember walking into a HD dealer as a 17yo back in the early to mid 2000s and seeing my first Buell. They only had 2 of them in the dealership and it seemed none of the guys were over looking at them. I couldn't believe that they went under either. After seeing what an incredible machine they were. HD should've been trying to hire younger guys who rode street bikes. And each dealer should've had at least 6-10 of those things in different styles. Man did they mess that up. Not only that but if they were to buy up an actual engine maker who made race engines....these things could've been able to compete in the GP on the regular. It's pretty clear that from this video alone, if that Buell had a more similar powered V-Twin to Ducatis, these things would've pulled away in every aspect with the right riders. And all the sudden, the bikes would've been doing their own advertising. Harley is on the way out sadly. Even the younger generation, when they are buying Harleys, they're looking for relic older HDs to turn into Cafe Racers, so HD isn't seeing a dime of that business. American companies always find a way to ruin themselves through stubbornness. And its never the ones who made all the wrong choices that have to witness it. They're all filled with people with the "money now" mindsets. And not looking at what damage they're doing in 10yrs time. Everybody except for old school bikers are sick of the whole revamped "sportster, dyna, ultra glide, softails, etc". Paying 2-3x more than japanese bikes for 2-3x less power, efficiency, fun. Even if they were to sink half their budget into the performance world now, they wouldn't be able to catch up. 1yr of sales and people would be like I just paid double the price of a Honda for this Harley Sportsbike that has none of the technology, the engines low speed power is useless in racing, etc. I went on too far with this rant, but it truly is a travesty.
Speed….. young sportbike guys wanted speed….. Erik buell built world class sport bikes made for corners…. But the Harley buells didn’t have the top end… I blame harley wholeheartedly
What?? Short term gain? They owned or partially owned Buell for 16 years, and they lost money on that crap the entire run, which including outside of Harley was actually for 26 years and only sold 136,932 TOTAL units, while selling their huge volume, very profitable core product, so what don't you understand? Everybody loves the old Buell's now because they're really cheap and fun, but they were underpowered and had some breakdown issues, especially the 1125R. For some guys the engine was shot at less than 50,000 miles, others went over 100,000. The biggest issues were the air-cooled rear cylinder wearing out prematurely, and electrical issues. Plus, they were very ugly to some people, and beautiful oddballs to others. They missed the Ducati style charisma......and the sleek beautiful Japanese rocket machine......the Buell's were literally pigs with lipstick.
Interesting fact the EBR had to add 14lbs of dead weight to meet requirements and had no electronic rider aids this race. No traction control abs etc. Blake's bike had every electric aid it could have.
@bloodspartan300 honestly lack of resources for development. Erik Buell went out on his own after Harley shut them down in 2009, the 1190RS and later 1190RX/SX were the best they could produce with a small team and small budget. That said, it's an incredible machine and the best feeling analog bike I've ever owned or ridden. ABS and wheelie control would have taken these things over the top, all they have is a 21 setting traction control. Otherwise it's 100% on the operator.
@jesseallensworth2931 this was back when they made the twins run dual mufflers killing power for ducati and EBR as well to meet decibel requirements. Cost them all upper end power.

Basic physics. A 2 cylinder has heavier reciprocating mass restricting RPM. A 4 cylinder has lighter reciprocating mass and is capable of much higher RPM. Horsepower is calculated torque X RPM. Rules take this into consideration.2 cylinder has more low end torque, 4 cylinder has more top end power. A larger 2 cylinder is equal to a smaller 4 cylinder overall.

Killa racing.
It is just sad that 1190cc needs to race against a 1000cc and 1000cc is still faster.I expected 1190 to win with big margin just like in 90's WSBK when 1000cc twin vs 750cc.... and those V twin,,, left the 750cc in the dust big time...
Possibly the dumbest comment I've seen on UA-cam
Basic physics. A 2 cylinder has heavier reciprocating mass restricting RPM. A 4 cylinder has lighter reciprocating mass and is capable of much higher RPM. Horsepower is calculated torque X RPM. Rules take this into consideration.2 cylinder has more low end torque, 4 cylinder has more top end power. A larger 2 cylinder is equal to a smaller 4 cylinder overall.
They made the ebr add 14 lbs... thats why
