    This isn’t bodybuilding… Qin isn’t going for full range of motion, he’s going for maximum force production and conditioning his fast twitch muscle fibers/ nervous system. He’s the best in the world for a reason.

      He’s going for max force production to train his fast twitch muscles, not for ROM.

    Each half rep he does still builds some muscle. If he reduces to one plate I’m sure he can do a full rep.

    Try doing pull ups with 60kg first, then speak. Also, he doesn’t need full ROM for his stroke. He needs quick extreme explosive power in the first half. And he is getting exactly this here.

    Absolute rubbish technique. Half rep up and zero control on the eccentric. An example of how not to do a pull up. He should drop one plate and do proper full RoM reps. I’m genuinely surprised by this video. Assumed someone of his calibre would have coaches who know how to do this basic exercise. Tire injury risk with that technique is significant too

    • @matrajao
      @matrajao 6 місяців тому +4

      He is not training for hypertrophy, he is training for power. That's why he is not controlling the eccentrics. Working out as an athlete is very different.

      @@Bread02289 I’m a swimmer and lift and would never train like that. Obviously nothing near his level but I can assure you that you can train for power without jerking and cheating the lift like that. A fundamental of any training including strength or power training is progressive overload. If your technique is sloppy like this there is no standardisation of range of motion and therefore no ability to judge progression. Fundamental training principle.

    • @richardtrass
      @richardtrass 6 місяців тому +3

      @@matrajao I agree you don’t milk the eccentric when training for power but he’s not even doing the concentric properly. That’s a half rep at best and done with a jerk and all sorts of momentum. And the eccentric should still have some control for this lift. It’s not like a deadlift. I hope young swimmers aren’t looking at this video and thinking it’s appropriate. I assume Brett doesn’t train his sprinters this way. Brett. What do you think of this pull up technique? Would you recommend it?

  • @Umma1967
    @Umma1967 6 місяців тому +1

    He should lighten up and do full reps, like start out with body weight pull ups with a full range of motion on the concentric and hold the negative for a few seconds. I would not allow a swimmer whom I am coaching to train so horribly.

      @@richardtrass Having said that ... your profile makes it clear you very much know what you're talking about, more than I do. I'm a 58 year old Aussie looking to get back into some Masters swimming. I can still knock out a 28 SC 50m freestyle and looking to try and cut that down a bit on start and underwaters and switching to straight arm style. Luckily us old blokes can swim 25m events up to state level! I'd hate to be in your age group with Chris Fydler back in the pool breaking world records! I'm putting in a 13.5m lap pool (the 15m isn't made any more) later this year with black line painted up the middle and a proper block at one end. All the best with your swimming, mate.
