    In this video, Steven takes a look at the components and features of the new Neural DSP plugin, Archetype: Nolly.
    FEATURES
    Four state-of-the-art tube amplifier models of Nolly’s own-modified amplifiers are at the core of this plugin. Perfectly captured for an uncannily natural feel.
    A crystal-clear Clean, a low-gain, Crunch, a fuller sounding, higher gain Rhythm and a powerful and defined Lead.
    The crown jewels of Nolly’s collection of guitar amplifiers are now at your disposal.
    Two different overdrives/booster pedals, in addition to a solid state compressor, and even a delay provide enough flexibility and potential for fine tone sculpting and experimenting.
    Ideal for detailed spectrum adjustment, the onboard 9-band graphic equalizer allows for total control over frequency response.
    Multi-dimensional reverb and feature-rich delay pedals provide all the elements required for lush ambient sounds and adding the perfect amount of depth for leads.
    The onboard delay features our proprietary machine-learning generated Tape Saturation algorithm for the perfect combination between cutting-edge technology and vintage warmth and color.
    Boasting of 640 impulse response elements painstakingly captured by Nolly using his favorite four microphones, the virtual speaker section is this plugin’s secret weapon.
    Featuring four virtual speaker cabinets, each perfectly matched to an amplifier, this section provides our renown multi-positioning technology but with an unprecedented level of precision, and resolution.
    The Link-Unlink control allows you to use each head with its matched cabinet, or experiment by interchanging them.
    The four amplifiers, combined with the 640 IRs, provide a virtually endless amount of combinations.
    Adam "Nolly" Getgood stands out as one of the most accomplished and respected figures in modern metal.
    Whether it is at multi-instrumental stints in Periphery, engineering some of the most breathtaking audio productions in the past few years, or even capturing the perfect drum tone, everything Nolly does is executed with absolute precision and a seemingly obsessive commitment to excellence.
    Throughout the years, there are very few things Nolly hasn’t experimented with in his quest for the perfect guitar tone, even teaching himself electronics to re-engineer his favorite amplifiers’ circuits to his exact requirements. And screwing and unscrewing dozens of speakers for the perfect cabinet capture.
    When we learn of this, we knew we had to collaborate to bring this vision of his to the world.
    After countless iterations, thousands of impulse-response files auditioned, we have finally distilled Adam’s sonic vision for the perfect guitar sound into a single plugin.
    We proudly present you, Archetype: Nolly.

    "Volume compensation for the second impulse response" as you say it, should be an urgent update to all Neural DSP products. Its the only thing i don't like in the previous releases.

    • @xsonicassassinx
      @xsonicassassinx 4 роки тому +1

      i actually thought the same thing. the volume compensates when you add a second, but then there's no mix control and it's a constant game of trying to get back to unity gain

      Not sure if it’s that big a deal tbh. Assuming all the IRs are normalized/auto-normalized to full-scale, just cut both IRs by 6dB. If they are coherent, they’ll sum back up to full-scale.

    Great video. The User manual was very vague with how each component worked. It didn't even explain that the Crunch Amp was like a Marshall where adjusting the Master adds some compressed mids. They need to make the guide more like Waves plug ins which properly explain what each knob is actually doing.

    I know it might be me who is not a skilled mixer, but I still struggle to get a decent tone in a mix with this. I feel it’s either to muddy and muffled when using the high gain amp, or du grainy (not clear sounding) when using the crunch amp. I’ve tried a bunch of things like using the EQ like the pros tell you, tried checkinh my DI. There is nothing wrong with my interface. I think I might need a new drum plugin, I have this conviction that you need good drums to make the guitars sound decent. At least for distorted guitars.

    • @XiyuYang
      @XiyuYang 4 роки тому +2

      Hey! Not OP but I find the key to that chimey and cutting single coil high gain tone is wiring of your pickups, you want the inner coils of your humbuckers to be wired in parallel. On top of that a British style high gain amp helps, and picking the right cab/IR is important too.

    • @Tangalang22

      @F1r3Foxxxy 4 роки тому +1

      @@Tangalang22 You can check out the Tesseract cover on my channel for a 5150 Tesseract tone. The key is long enough scale length on the low A string (to use a thin enough string), and a neck pickup in coil split/single coil mode. I have a danelectro baritone (30") which sounds even glassier/crunchier/more aggressive than the record, which afaik uses a 27" baritone vs the 26.5" on the strandberg

    When turning on the 2nd IR in stereo mode, does it send 1 to L and 2 to R? How does that work when recording?

    • @TheRealStevenWard
      @TheRealStevenWard 4 роки тому +1

      Not automatically. There are pan knobs in the IR section so you can pan one left and one right.

    • @ripperthecrooks6428
      @ripperthecrooks6428 Рік тому

      @@TheRealStevenWard so how do you do that? You send 2 tracks on a bus with archetype nolly and hard pan them both ?

    • @TheRealStevenWard
      @TheRealStevenWard Рік тому

      @@ripperthecrooks6428 Depends on what sort of setup you want. If you have two DI's routed to a bus(each DI is set hard L and R before the bus), click on stereo mode so the plugin will affect L and R independently. If your plugin is in stereo mode, you can't pan the IR's internally. Probably would cause phasing issues between the left and right guitar. If you want to get creative with IR panning, you'll need to set up an instance of nolly on the individual DI tracks with a stereo output so it'll pan the IR's properly.

    • @DeathPandaDanceParty
      @DeathPandaDanceParty 4 роки тому +2

      I used to have the same problem with some plugins. Some would sound fine while others were very noisy. I started running my guitar through a Zoom MS-50G into the audio interface. On the interface I turned Pads off, Switched to Line and everything sounded clearer and better than ever. The Zoom is a multi effects stomp box but I'm not running anything on it, It's just turned on and in between my guitar and audio interface. If I remove it, then all the noise comes back.
      The trial version I'm using for the Nolly Archetype runs fine on my Mac though, and I never even tweaked the noise gate from default setting.
      Maybe try a DI Box or a pedal like a Tuner in between your signal to the audio interface.

      Check if the power supply works correctly.
      I know by myself that some suppliers can introduce unwanted noise, as it is the case with my MacBook 😂.
      The reason behind this, could be that the audio interface I'm using does not share the same GND reference as the wall-plug-supplier, hence if I don't touch the MacBook chassis to relate those device to the same voltage reference, i would hear some tiny but annoying hum.
