- Straight Swords are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Straight Swords are reliable weapons that provide a balance between slashing and thrusting attacks, and they can be used to inflict great amount of damage on Enemies or Bosses. Straight Swords are some of the easiest Weapons to use in Elden Ring, and work well when combined with a Shield, allows for quick follow up attacks after Blocking. Straight Swords are compatible with nearly all Ashes of War, making them extremely versatile, and useable in many different Builds. I love using the broadsword. I started as a Confessor and bought a second one to dual wield. I added a bleed ash of war to both and they melt health bars because of their attack speed. The only negative to the broadsword (and a lot of the straight swords) is their relative lack of reach.
Carian knight sword is my favorite. Basing my next build on that
Just upgraded the cariom knight sword today with a lordsworn straight sword in my off hand with either keen or magic scaling. Really liking the power stance and ash of war of the carion knight sword. I'll switch from lordsworn in my off hand to my staff when I need some range.
I like the broadsword. It’s a fine example of a type XIV arming sword.

Warhawk's Talon has a great heavy attack where you lunge forward very quickly and do a double slash.
The Lordsworn Straightsword is better than the longsword and broadsword if you have more dex than strength. Obviously that is more of a keen build than a quality build.
Yeah, if you are going Dex heavy, the Lordsworn does pull ahead.
This is a great idea. You should do this for all the good weapon types. Its great to be able to find all tye weapons that dont require INT, Faith, or Arcane.
We'll have to see how many i do. It'll depend on interest. I have a couple planned, but really just for the larger weapon selection classes.
2 Lordsworn Swords dropped for me very early in my first playthrough. I ended up putting Golden Vow on the one and Bloodhound Step on the other and used both through much of the content, even used them on Hoarah Loux.
The actual highest attack straightsword is the Longsword at +25 because with 99 dex and 99 str with a ash of war set to quality the weapon will have 652 AR one handed and 684 two handed. If you try to make the longsword +25 keen or heavy the AR is noticeably lower. As for the Broadsword +25 the AR with a ash of war set to quality is 645 one handed and 676 two handed. If you set the Broadsword +25 to keen or heavy the AR is noticeably lower. The scaling letters in this game are unreliable and shouldn't be taken fully into account when talking about AR on weapons. Also the Longsword has thrusting attacks while the broad sword does not. Therefore the Quality Longsword is best quality Straight sword at +25.
Are you sure? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the highest quality damage being lower than keen or heavy. I think the idea is that it trades damage for variety.
Yes I am. Put your dex and str to 99 then + 25 every straight sword and put them in quality keen and heavy and you will find what I said is correct.
@@christiancolon5317 Thanks for the advice, longsword 4 life. I've been a moody confessor with a heavy broadsword when I should be a jolly knight with a quality longsword.
@@yetanotheraccount3361 On higher levels quality beats out the other two. If you have 50 or 80 strength with low dex heavy is better and vice versa.
I got like halfway through the game with the Lordsworn’s Straight Sword so it’s special to me
keep in mind that the nobles slender sword is one of the rarest weapons in the game due to its extremely low drop rate
I hate to be that guy, but I'm gonna. The broadsword is modeled after the arming sword, which is designed primarily as a thrusting weapon. It's an armor can opener. It also does ok cutting, but a weapon designed primarily for cutting is generally curved, like a katana and also weighted toward the tip if it's a chopper, like a messer or scimitar.

I adore the longsword and straight sword. I use a dex and faith 80/80 build even tho broadsword does best heavy infused it’s really good on keen too and I just buff it with lightning normally. Been using lion claw skill on it. Been testing all the ashes of war on straight swords and I like that one best so far
I like the nobles slender sword, broadsword, longsword, and warhawks talon the best.
Those might be my top four as well, hard to say. One thing for sure is that the broadsword and longsword are my favorites.

Just a small thing but those guys you were saying to kill to get the weathered straight sword are wandering nobles, the guys you have to kill to get the sword are the enemies in stormveil castle with the shackle around their neck.
I agree with #1 , it's also my favorite so I maxed 2. Carried me through the entire game from the moment I got it. I also used it in ds3 caused its just a simple weapon and that's enough for this guy.

BTW not sure about others but I wouldn't swap square off on straight swords they are amazing with them
Commoners also don't fight back unless they are armed, so it's even easier to farm
I think the extra critical damage on lordsworns straight sword makes up for the minutely lower damage compared to the longsword.
it leans to dex a little more and shares the exact moveset with longsword and nearly identical reach and again more critical damage. I’m not going to argue that it looks better or worse though, that would be purely opinion based.

Actually, those “commoners” digging are wandering nobles, they use the noble slender sword or noble estoc, they do not use or drop weathered swords, those are dropped by the actual commoners, who are tall, pale, and wear the goofy wooden slab on their chest, they look like Gostoc and are really common in Stormveil Castle

To me it's not about how much damage the weapon does but about the look of the weapon WHILE it's damaging stuff. My personal favorite is Broadsword hands down. Used it in DS3 and dual wielding it in Elden Ring. I mean in a BROAD perspective the weapon does look amazing. Right?

I got the ornamental straight sword right at the start so it got me through very nicely till mid game Those fast attacks duel wielding would've been bad ass with bleed on them But still a bad ass sword you can get right at the beginning
The Lordsworn Straight Sword has 110 in critical, so that's a nice bonus.
With a shield, you protect yourself, you parry and counter attack. Be smart and patient, you'll kick some @ss

AR isn't everything.. short sword ahead of the slender sword (arguably one of the best straight swords). You have to consider moveset and other things, such as reach...
That's fair. Comparing the two directly, i could see the argument for placing the Nobles slender sword ahead of the short sword, for reach alone.

I was worried i was going after the wrong enemies. they all look too similar to me. But i know the sword drops pretty frequently, because by the end of my first playthrough, i had like a dozen of them.
