- A jaw dropping marathon rendition of Michael's song "Monkeybusinessman" from his album "Thonk". I've seen him play this a number of times, this might be the amazing performance of the song yet. This guy is just mind blowing, how have I never heard of him. He needs to be recognized with the Billy Sheehans and Victor Wootens of the world.
Micheal Hedges worked with him. You should check him out too ! Them together was why i bought and acoustic guitar back in 1989 . Dang im old .
@@swettyspaghtti Oh ya I went down the Micheal Hegdes rabbit hole after discovering Manning. The youtube algorithm is amazing sometimes when I get suggestions like that. Hedges is pure ear candy. I love the emotion & journey that Mr. Manring provides with his bass. A true innovator that made the bass a solo instrument but also added a new signature sound to any band / project he works with. 'Thonk' was mind-blowing for its time and his "structured improv" trio, Attention Deficit, was dynamically experimental & awesome. I was lucky to get to see him play 'Equilibre' with David Cullen &(surprise drummer) Mark Walker (who added an awesome layer). If you live in California and don't make an effort to see him, you're missing out big time...
Probably the most unique and innovative bass guitarist I've ever heard or seen. Wow
Manring's playing isn't necessarily my preferred style, but you have to respect his uniqueness and amazing advanced skill sets on the bass. He's incredible!
I've been playing bass for almost 30 years, and he always makes me feel like an infant just learning how to walk.
I think that's what greatness does to us. It'e easy to recognize it, why is it so hard to create it?

also very light guage strings and a flat neck and VERY light fingering for clean sound ... look at that G string ... im almost sure its unwound like a heavy piccolo set
extra light strings , flat neck ... very light touch ... pickup close to the bridge .. 30 years of practice ... i put piccolo strings on my broken shergold london fretless ... sounds like that ... !!!! ... im just short on talent and worth

E A D G, an octave lower than the guitar. Michael's bass sounds higher than standard.
Think its adgc tuning but its hard to tell

Hes performing solo bass this isnt for a band context.
Not to mention there is plenty of low end hes just playing slap on fresh rounds.
Very disappointing performance.... He was not in tune at 10:20. :-)
