- Michael Manring (@michaelmanring1) is certainly known for his fretless bass chops and his mid-song tuning changes. But most people don't know that he's deeply explored percussive rhythm on his 3-octave fretless bass.
Here's a demonstration of how he approaches playing a on a 3-octave fingerboard on his Zon Sonus "Junior" bass.

Thank you for the master class of a genius that created a new language for the instrument🙏
Glad you enjoyed it, Alex.

Thank you so much Michael!!!
I never bought one, but I did borrow one and return it to a friend haha. Would definitely like to get one for myself.
Maestro! Truly unparalleled.
He is the master!
Love your imaginative approach sir.
I want to know how you get that pop sound or a video of all the finger techniques you do in the music of Helios.
I hope you come to the Kingston guitar festival this year as I would enjoy hanging around to investigate the ways of the bass.
Thanks for soo much inspiration !
This man is a hero !
Damnnn that's smoothhh
Manring is the best. Thanks for watching, Colin.
This was a great lesson, I'm very glad I watched! I miss my old fretless bass for this kind of thing!
simple as that!
this was awesome
Thanks for this!
You're welcome, Darren.
VERY COOL!
Agreed. Thanks for watching!
3:35 it really should be also considered a percussion instrument. A piano is considered percussion because the hammers strike the strings, the only difference with the bass is that the player is striking the string directly.
That's an interesting point, David! I'm sure there's a technical reason why piano is tuned percussion and a bass/guitar isn't.
The piano is considered both a percussion and stringed instrument
Excellent interview. Lots of great information and concepts... thanks! Also nice to see Todd's A Capella album back there...
Thanks, Tones. Did you see our interviews with Todd about the album?
@@MakeWeirdMusic Yes I did! I didn't realize that was you also. That was excellent too! I'd wondered for 30+ years how he put that album together. Thanks for reminding me about that... I'm going to rewatch those interviews!
Thanks also for the consistency great content!
