Both Luka and Jokic deserve the award but my vote would go to Luka. I find there are some games where Jokic sits back, facilitates and lets the offense run itself and he shoots 8-10 shots. Luka doesn't have that luxury, it feels like he is doing everything for Dallas every game.

Luka has had it all this season, leading the league in PPG while being 2nd in APG and also averaging 9 RPG. He has all the moments you can ask for whether it's the 73 point explosion, the 30 point triple double, and making clutch shots over and over all season long. The Mavs were a very injury riddled team throughout the year and that included his co star Kyrie Irving and yet the Mavs still surged and made a push to secure a top 5 seed.
Before the season started I heard so much conversation about how the Mavs aren't a playoff lock (1-6 seed). There was even some people saying the Mavs wouldn't make the playoffs and yet here we are in April and they are a playoff lock.
The narrative around Luka being a "ballhog" is dead, so many players are having career years next to Luka, whether it's Kyrie or Dante Exum, or Derrick Jones Jr, or Josh Green, or Daniel Gafford, etc. Dereck Lively is a rookie that is flourishing next to Luka. He gets his guys rolling time and time again while also still getting his and being the best scorer in the league. His 3 point shooting ability has improved and his defense..... his defense has improved so much! What more does he have to do to win MVP? they are the 5th seed with 50+ wins and when Luka and Kyrie have played they have a win percentage thats over 65% which would put them right behind OKC.
I just don't know what more Luka has to do to win MVP, he has the stats, he improved every single aspect of his game, he has the injury riddled team narrative, he's a top 3 player in the league at the very least, and his team exceeded expectations from the beginning of the season. Shit, his team exceeded expectations that the media was putting on them before the trade deadline (HUGE shoutout to PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford). This man has destroyed the two biggest blemishes on his playstyle ("ballhog and not a good defender") in one season! That is my MVP!

Only two teams below the 3 seed have won MVP the last 25+ years: "greatest passing big of all time" missing his two best teammates all season MVP Jokic and post-KD best narrative of the 2010s MVP Westbrook. Luka has had more help and a better team than both of those teams and his record will only be like 3-4 wins better. "Injury-riddled" meaning being down mid role players is ridiculous. If he was missing Kyrie and someone like Tim Hardaway all year, I'd agree, but he was missing a guy who wasn't in the league the last two seasons, a bottom 5 starting center, and a rookie big. AND, all those guys played 50+ games. Stop the horseshit with the "injury-riddled" narrative; several other teams in the playoffs have been as injured if not more.
Luka has had an incredible one-man-show type season, but has literally no argument for value over Jokic. Luka is second to Jokic in literally every single value stat (on/off, net rating, VORP, efficiency, true shooting, etc). Luka has put up monster counting stats but that's not what MVP is in 2024. It's wins, narrative, advanced stats, dominance. Hell, Jokic arguably has a better narrative than Luka with the snubbed last year because of Kendrick Perkins plotline, a better record, better advanced stats that reflect value, and arguably just as dominant a season, though executed differently. He reads the game in the first and then decides what he needs to do based on the defensive scheme. If two guys are competing for MVP and one guy definitively wins in 2/4 categories historically used to determine MVP, including the one actually related to value on the court, and the other two are arguable, that guy wins. The Luka fanboys need to look at history because it's clear Luka's season, in terms of results, does not equal an MVP season. This is basically the equivalent of the RotY between Wemby and Chet. In any other year, Luka and Chet would win, but they're facing off against someone just better. It's not their fault and they tried their best, but the answer is Jokic and Wemby.

Historically averaging most combined Pts-Reb-As, 73 Point Game, Breaks consecutive 30 point triple double record and through the turmoil of the season with injuries and Jason Kidd sucking for a bit has the Mavs as the 4 seed. - the first 5 games with crazy stats and win including the crazy 3pts hook shot buzzer beater vs Brooklyn.
    - Obviously the crazy 73 pts game almost triple double too.
    - The crazy dominant Christmas game vs Phoenix
    - Breaking the record for the most consecutive 30pts and 35+ pts triple double games.
    - Multiple occasions where he make a certain statlines for the first time in NBA history this season.
    - Averaging 34/9/9 this season. I get it if you avg 34 ppg in 5 games but if you average 34 ppg in 65 games that's historical.
    - Even all the talks about MVP conversation is always includes Luka's name including when people trolling about his MVP ranking will fell down everytime he got crazy games.
All the stories in NBA this season is always about Luka.

The Mavs were the 1 seed before they got struck with injuries. Remember you interviewed grant Williams when we were 8-2 and the 1 seed, then Luka averages 37 for two months to keep them afloat until they get healthy, then they get healthy and have been winning games at a 1 seed pace. The totality of the season says he’s the MVP. You can hold wins against him if he’s winning at the pace they are winning at when healthy. The nuggets missed Jamal Murray for a bit but otherwise have been extremely healthy, which good for them but there’s context that needs to be had and Luka should have the narrative with him but he doesn’t for whatever reason

      @@georgeprimoff3744Luka's an average defender
      All advanced metrics tend to
      a) love playmaking bigs
      b) heavily account for on/off stats - here's the problem. Luka and Kyrie split their minutes completely, one is always on the court with a couple starters. Denver:
      a) has awful backup centers for a playoff team
      b) famously plays the starters clumped together leaving 5 man bench units out there
      c) has the best starting 5 in the league
      d) has a somewhat lackluster bench
All that means Jokić will *always* be an advanced stats darling, because those rely heavily on on/off stats, which in Denver's case means pretty much comparing *_the best starting 5 in the league_* vs *_a bad bench's_* production

@@thekaying you have never watched a nuggets basketball game 😞. Jokic usually pays the back half of every first quarter with all bench units and that elite starter unit has 2 to 3 sub back in when Jokic sits and usually gets shit on. You take Jokic out of the starting unit and they fall apart. They are not efficient and rely heavily on his screening actions and playmaking abilities to be effective. People who dont watch much nuggets basketball don't realize just how much of a drop off MPJ, Arron Gordon and even Jamal have when they aren't there with Jokic. Even the defense can fall apart when he isn't there because he provides most of the defensive rebounding. I've watched almost all the games this year and no matter who's on the court if Jokic isn't there it looks like Chickens running around with there heads cut off in the half court. Or Jamal playing like a poor man's luka. But to say Jokic only plays with starters is complete and utter bull. You could throw Jokic on any team in this league and see anyone who plays consistent minutes counting stats rise as they are play with one the best pure playmakers in the league . Not someone who dribbles the air out of the ball like a Russell Westbrook or James harden. I like Luka alot but damn it's aggravating seeing people completely discredit Jokic because he "plays with the so called best starting five". I wouldnt doubt that he's even coasted most of this year and still put up stats comparable to Luka's.
If Luka wins it this year that's great but the disrespect is getting out of control from people who don't know anything about how Denver plays 😞. It's just sad.

@@iimatracii067 PBP stats exist and I double-check everything before I post - you're just lying about him playing meaninful time with bench units. It's been 47 minutes the entire season.
All four other starters without Jokić have been on the floor for 9 minutes. The fact you make up random sh*t and beat down on your players to push a narrative is wild.
Consider what having to lie says about your guy's MVP case
And yes, obviously units without a playmaker led by a combo with 2 second-year players are ISO heavy & less organized. That's a roster construction issue, not a praise of Jokić. Been a problem forever, too

I agree with you on the mavericks. I don’t think we have that pressure where it is championship or bust and if we do lose in the first round we need to get a starting small forward. I have always believed that Omax Prosper should be getting minutes because he plays really good defense. In our 30-0 run this season vs the thunder, Omax was the main defender on SGA and then we just took him out and SGA closed that game. I love Derrick Jones Jr, but he cannot be our starting small forward because he lacks offense. He’s great around the rim and there are games where he gets hit from 3, but most games he is going 0-5 or 1-5 from 3 and that’s just not good enough. It is also time to let Hardaway go. He was phenomenal in the beginning of the season and now he’s just disappeared after the all start break. It’s time to trade him for maybe Bogdan Bogdanovic or a player of that caliber. If we make the right moves in the offseason, we could be a scary team next season.

Just a thought I had as a pels fan, may be a bit biased:
Does the stretch since the in-season tournament, given how good the pels have been and how great Zion has been playing, does Zion make a late-season case for an All-NBA team? Or are there too many guys ahead of him?

Injuries to Monk and Huerter are the worst things to happen to SAC. Personally, I’ve never believed that their roster construction is good enough to even get them to the conference finals. I have a feeling the kings will fall short again this season and the organization may dismiss the failure because they were down 2 rotational players. They need another piece if they want to take advantage of this “championship window” and I hope they realize that in spite of the injuries. (Nuggets fan with no connection to the kings)

luka deserves the MVP award, they have 50 wins and kyrie irving has missed 22 games, derrick lively (starting center until recently) has missed 25, and then the depth of the team before the trade deadline was just legitimately not good. now they have a good team constructed after the deadline and have been almost as good as any team in the nba, with luka still dropping crazy stat lines, playing defense, letting/helping every single player around him have career years. gafford with the field goals made consecutively (he’s close to breaking that again). dante exum who was literally not in the nba last year being a clutch bucket. kyries reputation has completely flipped (this is not just because of luka obviously but luka has definitely aided the process), derrick lively having a tremendous rookie year, and derrick jones jr averaging a career high in points. they are one of the best teams in the clutch and luka has one of the best box score stat seasons history has ever seen. luka also scored 73 this season, that’s historic. he’s legitimately played good defense, had a block on dillon brooks in the final minute the other day, top 10 in steals, better than 87% of the league in advanced stats for defense (by 3steps). i don’t really know what more you can ask of him. he carried them when he had no help, and he’s still eating now and winning a lot of games on top of it. he’s the most valuable player in the league

I dont mind jokic winning the award but god i feel like ive been getting gas lit by the media and they just straight up act like its not an mvp caliber season and im tired of it.
The only time we got that recognition was when they put luka 2nd in mvp ranking and then the next week despite us not losing a game they drop him back down to 3.
It just really exposed the media’s love of narratives because for whatever reason the media was just completely negative on dallas as a whole. Gave our trade deadline deals and off season moves a D grade, when we were spiraling before the trade deadline they were talking about luka leaving. So when we surged out of the trade deadline the same people who were disrespectful were quiet
Also i dont feel like its recognized how disastrous injuries plagued our season in december and January. Like mavs rotation players have combined to miss like 133 games including 20+ missed from kyrie irving and most of those missed games came during that stretch, this is where luka had the godly numbers and had ton of iconic moments, 73 against the hawks, 50 against the suns on christmas, the game that really stood out to me was against the orlando magic where we had to have a come back win where luka guarded paolo in the 3rd quarter and led the charge without kyrie.
Because of this stretch though we didnt win that many games, in early February we were sitting at 26-23, and all this time we heard the “despite the loss” man shit, how luka’s style “cant win” and “doesnt make his teammates better” shit and then help arrives by the trade deadline and everyone FINALLY got healthy and they got to 50-32 from 26-23 and it easily could have been 51 or 52 if we decided to not rest our starters these last 2 games
How is that not an mvp case, i refuse to be sat here and be told by media people who just brush away this mvp case. Its a romantic MVP, its filled with hardship that other mvp’s didnt have, our team for that 2 month stretch was solely shouldered by the titan that was luka. Meanwhile jokic’s MVP year has just the nuggets cruising and then turning it on at the all star break. I know my argument is basically an emotional one but as a fan of the mavericks i was just in awe at what luka did and he’s my mvp
Also slightly biased did a video on luka mvp that i think does a great job

Everytime Embiid stays on the floor longer than 2 seconds or tweaks his ankle people are going to freak out and say “see, this is why he should sit out”. It’s not like he couldn’t get those same tweaks any other time. The man feels confident enough to ball, so who are we to say that he should or shouldn’t? But I will say this, you get no excuses if you underperform in the playoffs because you decided to come back and give it a shot. At some point “he was injured” can’t be a excuse when it’s really a problem.

@KennyBeechamPod, what more can luka genuinely do. he’s having a top 3 statistical season of all time✅. they told him to win games. he has led a injury riddled team to 50 wins✅, also since the roster has been improved and more of the right pieces around him, they’ve been 16-2 in the last 18. the best in the nba✅. so now he has insane stats, and now he’s got the wins he’s needed what more does he need to do? play defense? this is lukas best defensive year of his career, and if people watch the games, he’s actually be pretty good. amazing in post defense, isos and even reading the lanes. so the only argument against him is jokic is a higher seed. when jokic won his mvps, luka has had more wins in this season, compared to both of jokic’s mvp seasons. but the wins didn’t matter then? i’m sorry if he doesn’t win, you guys will look back on this season and be like how did this guy not win mvp. we all know the nba will be allowing more physical defense soon. so all the offensive numbers will be going down. when you look back on this season in a few years. no one will be averaging 34ppg and 10ast. no numbers will be close to that in a few years. he also had 73 in one game. 73! If luka doesn’t win this year he never will. tell the world he’s the mvp

I think jokic will win but I wish Luka would. Earlier in the season people would ask why won’t Luka win. The answer was usually wins. That doesn’t seem to be a factor anymore. Jamal Murray and Kyrie Irving have played around the same amount of games. Nuggets are 13-10 without Murray and mavs are 11-12 without Irving. The sample size is too small to be relevant considering what happens with jokic misses or Luka misses a game.
To me it has felt that the mavs had a poorly constructed roster around Luka. While the roster around jokic is better not saying the individual players are better but the skill sets compliment better. I think Luka has had a harder roster around him to thrive and wins still came I feel like he is the most valuable player in the league. Jokic is the better player but in my opinion Luka is the most important piece to that team and to me is the most valuable.
And honestly sometimes it’s vibes. I have always loved both players due to their respect for family values. I just like Luka a bit more and maybe that sways me too much. I worry that Luka will never win one because jokic won’t slow down and I would just find that sad.
    Love the content Kenny.

1). Celtics are probably one. Even though they are young the main two, JT and JB have been to the Finals before and multiple conference championships, so I think they need to get back and actually win to get that monkey off their backs.
2). Clippers are probably second, due to them being healthy in a while.
3). Nuggets third due to them being the defending champions and most people have them winning the West again.
The rest of the teams are pretty young so if they can get to the second round or deeper they would be in a good position. You could argue the Suns due to KD and Booker, but I didn’t think they were contenders with that depth, so I didn’t count them.
Now if any of those young teams end up winning the championship, then all power to them. Hopefully it’s the Pelicans lol. (Yes I’m a Pels fan)

When you look at Luka vs Jokic. You would think Jokic is far better because his team is falling apart when he is not on the floor. Jokic on off numbers and value over replacement is just way higher than luka. But Jokic numbers are also inflated, because Denver basically has a full bench flip when Jokic goes out, with Murrey and 4 young bench players. I think Jokic is a better player than luka, but I don't think Jokic is the MVP. There is a large points gap, and thats because Jokic be coasting at a high level. Jokic is down across the board in his stats compared to his 2023 playoffs run. 7,5 point per game is a difference maker for me. Therefore my MVP is Luka.
