- Welcome to my first video ever!! I am a 25 year old doll collector, sewer, knitter, and crocheter living in central Texas and I’ve always wanted an American girl doll of my very own. (The dolls in the background do not belong to me as I will explain in the video.)

Aww. She really does look like you as a kid. I’m so glad you have your own special girl now. That was the sweetest unboxing ever. I love getting pre-loved dolls and fixing them like new. It’s money better spent, and you have a little bit of yourself invested in her.
Yes! It makes her feel more special to me because I took care of her after she was probably neglected for a while.
now I'm less embarrassed to get my first doll and I'm 30 now so I just want to say thank you for making these and showing that it's okay to enjoy anything at any age.

Great video! Your doll does look like you, she’s cute! You did a great job cleaning her up! Nice wardrobe! I just bought my first doll Courtney and I’m 65 lol. I guess I was deprived as a kid. I only had one doll called Kissy 😂good to know I can look on eBay for a doll.
I’m 49 and just starting my collection, thanks to my supportive husband I have 22 dolls so far. My kids all grown up and these dolls are like my new babies, they make me happy. 30 is a good time to start, you have so many more years to enjoy them!

I grew up the same way, wanting an American Girl Doll and not being able to afford any. As an adult I've managed to get a few so far, only second hand tho as its much cheaper. My favorite find so far was fairly recent, my parents gave me some money for my birthday this year to buy whatever I wanted and I found a listing on ebay with Kirsten, Felicity and Addy, all for a really good price, and in fairly good condition. Addy and Felicity were 2 I wanted as a child so to finally have them, I had the same reaction you did. I couldn't believe I finally had them. Congratulations on getting her! Such a sweet video! Good for you! I began an AG collection a couple of years ago. I'm a mom of boys so I never had a girl to give dolls to. I really enjoy them. Maybe someday I'll do a video to show them. I can relate to your story. My dream doll growing up was a Barbie doll (AG wasn't around yet) but I never got one because we were also poor. I had truly me 53 as a kid. It was the only doll I got as a kid and I had her with me until a couple of years ago. Something happened and unfortunately, my old friend got all of my dolls. I don't think I'll get my personal doll back, but I hope to repurchase her someday. For now, I'm happy to have my McKenna and Grace.
Oh and that is Kit’s summer dress! Great find. I love that one.

After Mattel bought pleasant company they started to make the dolls skinnier probably for money costs, and they started doing zip ties in 2016, Lea (Girl of the year 2016) was the first doll to have a zip tie. Ramona is so cute and I’m so happy you got your first doll💖
My family still is ok with me having dolls. My brother says I am too old for dolls. No one is ever too old for dolls. ♥️
I love how a lot of us have the same childhood memories with american girl. I Basically had the same childhood situation of not being able to afford them but looking at the catalogue whenever it came in the mail . I just recently ordered a molly with her accessories and birthday outfit because I justified her by getting molly as a birthday present so ofc i had to get the outfit bc little kid me would've wanted the birthday outfit

Dollie and me was a brand of clothes for little girls that came with matching outfits for their dolls. I had a few when I was a kid. That magical feeling when you get a new doll, I can see the moment you feel it! It's soooo addicting! Welcome to agtube! :D

@@tashasdollsag and when dolls have those holes in their ears, it usually means they were pierced with the homemade method rather than paying for it. My used Julie doll is able to wear human earrings cause of that, which works out nice since I don’t wear my earrings anymore lol
I have this doll and I havent ever been able to connect with it since I got back into collecting. I have a hard time coming up with a story for her. I’m glad you love her!

I'm into Dollfie Dreams but considering getting an AG just because I want a mini me. The elation on your face as you unboxed her is so pure. I love that sensation of opening the box and the big reveal. I won't forget when I unboxed my first 1/3 bjd. I think I cried happy tears. ♥

@@tashasdollsag Gotcha. I just finished the video, and when you said you might take an Exacto knife to Ramona's nose I almost shouted "noooo" out loud lol. Micromesh would be a much safer bet. I'd personally leave it until micromesh is in the budget because I would be terrified of making it worse with a knife. As for her ears, you can always use a drill to pierce them properly for AG earrings. Congrats again on getting her and starting your channel!
@@agtakesover no worries! I actually have experience with carving and face ups because I actually customize blythe dolls every here and there! I only very lightly shaved away the little bump on her nose and it already looks much better. I’m probably going to give her a face up soon and give her freckles to hide the little spot

Congratulations on your first PC girlie!! I was 25 when I became an adult collector and bought my first Pleasant Company Samantha ❤ loved her since I was 8 or 9 and was able to afford her later in life…that was 15 years ago! For my big 4 0 this week, went thrifting and found GOTY Lea Clark for a mere pittance!! Best birthday ever!! 😂 I restore PC and AG girlies now and it’s a labor of love 💗 now am collecting other doll lines too and couldn’t be happier! 🥰

Lea is a really gorgeous doll I’ve had my eye on her too! What a lucky find!! I also collect several other doll lines, but my focus has been on AG lately lol.

Anyway, welcome to AGtube. I’m a socially awkward adult collector who first discovered American Girl in 2010, and I love creating personalities and backstories for all my dolls as well as styling them, and I have skin problems too lol
It made me so happy to watch you open your first doll because it reminded me of why I started collecting AG. I love the bear onesie so so much so I would love a tutorial on that or I would buy it if you started an etsy shop (because I can’t sew a straight line)

I just recently picked up two AG dolls that I had wanted for years at an antique shop! Coincidentally, Mia, and JLY 55! I’m 23 now, and I have a few dolls, but these are ones I was able to pick up and fix them to look new again. Congratulations on your baby finally making it to you 💙

I love hearing your story, it sucks when the excuse is “aren’t you too old for dolls?” I would’ve rathered my mom say we can’t afford it honey I’m so sorry
It makes sense to me now in hindsight, she was worried that since it is such an expense that it would be a waste of money if I didn’t play with it/ lose interest in it faster. Growing up in poverty makes you highly conscious of things like this so she was just trying to be realistic and practical. My situation is a bit unusual, not many people typically stay interested in toys after childhood, so I don’t have any hard feelings about it anymore.
That’s awful that your parents never bought you an AG! I’m glad you convinced yourself to get one - you’re never too old! #28 is a cutie and suits the name Ramona. 2008 on her tag is a random identifier and doesn’t pertain to the year, but she most likely would’ve had neck strings. I think she did go to the hospital at one point. I love the dress you made for Elizabeth! It’s so pretty. You are a great seamstress and crafter!
I don’t think it’s awful really, the price of an American Girl doll was a significant financial sacrifice for my parents back then, they just made what they felt was the smartest decision based on the financial situation back then. They were worried that because I was already older that it would be a waste of money to buy me a doll that I might not play with. At the end of the day toys are a luxury not a necessity. While I did play it up a little for entertainment value, I definitely harbor zero hard feelings towards my parents, and I’m very happy that they support my continued love for dolls as an adult.
@@tashasdollsag true! I just wish they had asked you if you wanted one instead of just assuming you were “too old”. This is coming from someone who never grew out of dolls and asked for AG all through high school and beyond. I would’ve felt awful watching my two younger sisters getting dolls when I really wanted one myself. But, nevertheless, I’m glad your parents support your doll hobby now. 😀
@@starryeyeschick they knew I wanted one, I asked for one for that year and maybe 2 years after but I gave up after that because in my family no meant no. But again I was not entitled to get a doll, nobody is lol. It felt bad at the time but I still got gifts of equal value so I wasn’t receiving any less than my sisters. We were the kind of poor where most nights we had ramen noodles for dinner, we got one pair of shoes at the start of the school year and they had to last us the whole year until the next school year began, and Santa Claus never existed because how do you explain to your children why santa doesn’t give as many toys to poor children as he does to rich children, there were a few christmases where we didn’t get anything but some candy, even though both of my parents worked full time jobs. The real tragedy is that two adults can work full time jobs and still not be paid enough to comfortably support a family and get their kids whatever toys they desired. I learned to be grateful for what I had, and I carry that mentality with me to this day.
@@tashasdollsag I understand! I grew up poor as well and only had an AG because my mom scrimped and saved (and I was also an only child). Ramen noodles were a staple for dinner, and even though I had a lot of toys and clothes, most were hand-me-downs or thrifted. It’s good that AGs are everywhere on the secondary market now because - as you found out - it’s possible to get one now for much cheaper.

Hiii!! Coming from an AG historian and collector, the doll is from 2008 and The previous owner probably cut the neck string and most definitely put the zip tie but AG dolls started to come with zip ties in 2016 Anyways I hope this helped

I would look up on you--tube how to replace a zip tie with strings. I've done it. Not too hard. Then you can replace some of Ramona's stuffing! ( Romi would be an adorable nickname🙂)
A spray bottle with plain water is used to spray the hair before brushing. I understand it to be so the plastic shaff of the hair does not stretch and break. Or, go frizzy! Yikes! I can see your going to have lots of fun with your girl! The crafty/sewing ideas would be inspiring and I would love to see your creation! Congratulations! Ramona is a really fitting name for her. She probably has a zip tie because someone took her head off, probably to fix her up in some way or maybe to take out some of the stuffing to make her thinner to fit tighter clothes.

She's the cutest. 28 is on my wishlist too. Zipties are from like 2015 I'd say but not to sure. since she's second hand i recommend taking stuffing out and scrub the cloth body be careful by joints if u don't wanna take her part fully and add stuffing since shes floppy then replace ziptie with strings. If you're brave and your budget allows you could take her apart so you get a good cleaning on her torso and get new strings so her limbs will be tight.
She does remind me of you as a kid. ❤
