    This was one heck of a Laker team. Swept through the West playoffs before meeting the Sixers in the finals. The Sixers also were heroic for beating the Celtics in Boston in game 7 of the East Finals. Great NBA basketball!

      LA always had a cakewalk through the West conf bracket
      Meanwhile the Celtics, 76ers or Pistons all 3 beat the 💩 outta each other in the East. Also the Bucks, Hawks and Knicks throughout the 80s would’ve been regulars in the Western conf finals as well (if they would’ve been in the CAKEWALK conference).
      And LA STILL struggled with Houston, Dallas, Portland at times. 🙄
      I’m still pissed at LA losing to Houston in ‘86 and slipping out of the ABSOLUTE BEATDOWN that Boston had in store for their cakewalking rearhinds. Boston would’ve beat them 4-1 if not straight up swept they damn bahind in 1986.

      The West was awful in the early through mid 80s. Lakers had what amounted to a bye to the Finals year after year.
      Remember when they played against a 39-win Sonics team in the Western Conference Finals?
      This should be a major mark against them historically, but it is swept under the rug.

      The Lakers ALWAYS had a CAKEWALK in the WEAK West bracket in the 1980s.
      Whatever East team made the finals had to battle hard 6-7 game series VS teams like...
      -Celtics
      -76ers (early 80’s)
      -Pistons (late 80’s)
      -Bucks
      -Hawks
      -Knicks
      Meanwhile LA is sweeping WEAKASS teams with losing regular season records like...
      -Clippers
      -Nuggets
      -Kings
      -Suns
      LA even lost to mediocre Houston teams in ‘81 & ‘86. Both times Houston went on to get utterly DOMMED by the Celtics

In the playoffs, Mac went for 16.7 PPG and the Lakers went 12-2, sweeping the Suns and Spurs before beating Philly. IMO, McAdoo should've been named Finals MVP, not Magic.

      @andreialexandruparfeni7129 7 років тому

      El Dee
      The 72-10 Bulls are unquestionably the greatest team ever. The 1986 Celtics had the MVP Bird, Dennis Johnson, Parrish, McHale, Danny Ainge and the Sixth Man of the Year Bill Walton. The 64-65 Celtics were (by the stats) by far the greatest defensive team ever and they could run. With Bill Russell and Hondo, they could stop the Sixers offense. Out of the new teams, the 2013 Heat were great, had a better record than the 83 Sixers, had the best season out of Lebron, who was unstoppable, Wade, Bosh, a great clutch shooter in Allen etc.
      I would take any of these teams against the Sixers in a 7 game series.

    • @dreluva13
      @dreluva13 7 років тому +8

      I respectfully disagree. Sure record wise the 72-10 Bulls were amazing and the 86' Celtics team was dynamic as well. Stats alone don't say that one team could stop another. The 64-65 team was great but the 82-83 Sixers had great perimeter defenders as well as great interior defensive play. They could swallow teams up in the 2nd half and force them into mistakes and bad shots. When healthy they were a top 3 team all time IMO. Only the 85-86 Celtics and the 95-96 Bulls team beats them in a best of 7. Boston had to go get Dennis Johnson to deal with Andrew Toney. If Toney didn't have foot problems....he's a potential hall of fame player. Just my opinion, good stuff!

    • @andreialexandruparfeni7129
      @andreialexandruparfeni7129 7 років тому +1

      A Harper
      It's nice having a conversation on UA-cam with someone that wants to have a respectful discussion. It's rare.
      Of course, stats alone don't show if a team can stop another, but the 63-64 Celtics' relative defensive rating (the difference between their defensive rating and the rest of the league's that year), which you can argue is the best measure of a team's defense, is heads and shoulders above any team except for some other 60's Celtics teams. Bill Russell was the greatest defensive player ever, and this was by far his best year. K.C. Jones was in his prime. Sam Jones could hit big shots. Same with Hondo. The Celtics held the Lakers twice and Wilt's team once to less then 80 points, which is ridiculous considering Wilt once scored 100 by himself. The Celtics were the best team by far in the regular season and tore past the Royals and the Warriors in the playoffs.

    • @dreluva13
      @dreluva13 7 років тому +1

      True indeed my friend. Yes they were a great team. One of the main reasons the great Sixers teams couldn't get past the Celtics. And yes I do agree, Bill Russell was the greatest defensive player of all time. The 66-67 Sixers were the only team to actually humble the great Celtics and beat them 4-1 in the ECF. Then the next year, the Celtics rally down 3-1 to win 4-3. Seemed like the Celtics always found a way to beat my Sixers.

      @ezysmith3765 1985/86 CELTICS: 40 & 1❗40 & 1 at BOSTON Garden. LAKERS get swept against the C's. In fact: 3 in a row! Stern & the NBA changed the format to 2-3-2 in 1984/85.

      Jophes Wrong
      Delusional??? It’s common knowledge that the West was much weaker than the East throughout the 1980’s you silly WhistleDink.
      And LA STILL lost to Houston 😂🤣
      If LA and Boston switched conferences in the 80s Boston would’ve won at least 6 and likely 7 rings. If LA had to play the 76ers, Bucks, Pistons, Hawks in rounds 1,2 and Conf finals I’m seriously not sure that they ever even get ONE ring in the 80s.
      LA lost in Rd1 in ‘81 to a mediocre Houston team that Boston DOMMED in the finals.
      AND AGAIN lost to Houston in’86 🤣 and AGAIN Boston DOMMED Houston in the finals.
      So if LA struggled with Houston they’d have wilted having to face the “Beatdown in the East” year after year.
      Reading your comment Jophes it’s obvious not only to me, but any halfway knowledgeable 🏀 fan that you are merely a common gooblety gock with minimal knowledge about the game and it’s history. There’s nothing wrong with that though because people like yourself are highly sought after to coach the Special Olympics 🏀 team. I bet you can easily relate to them and coach them to greatness in the short bus league.
