For me I find it so enlightening. And I find that kind of strange how we all (individuals) interpret songs or search for different meanings. And this is why I love
Tool. They reach out on different levels and we learn how we
      Feel through that

@@LyleAllbritton another aspect that really gets me as a guitarist is the G# power chord that adam and justin both play when maynard says 'child' (the second chord in the main breakdown) which they never really use and doesnt work well in most cases but its such a dark transition from the D power chord. Its also the main chord used in marilyn mansons 'the beautiful people' its just such a haunting chord and really suits the dark feel of the song

I thought this was about a serial killer at first until I saw it's about Maynard's childhood. I see that it's about childhood trauma and soul retrieval, bringing the child back home to the adult body, and the PTSD memories that showed him the child was there needing to be retrieved and I can't stop crying. It's so beautiful and hopeful and positive and painful like wow wow.
As someone who's done inner child work a lot and soul retrieval with my PTSD from my childhood, the fact that I was listening to this song before even knowing what it meant and that I would be doing this work years in the future is incredible. Tool are truly tapped into universal consciousness.

Spot on! And I can totally see Maynard channeling his 11yo in his movements. It sounds crazy, but your subconscious knows exactly what we need in order to heal; this song triggered a whole bunch of stuff for me as well.

This song still astonishes me years after first dropping it - and then listening to it 1000 or so times after that...
Aenima is a masterpiece - and I would argue one of the best albums of all time. And this track often gets half forgotten in the wake of so many others absolute smashers on it. But it shouldn't be because it totally sets the skin on fire, even if you don't know what it's about.
    Visceral.
    Moving.
    Perfect.

What was it like to see
The face of your own stability
    Suddenly look away
Leaving you with the dead and hopeless?
    [Verse 2]
    Eleven and she was gone
Eleven is when we waved goodbye
    Eleven is standing still
Waiting for me to free him
    By coming home
    [Verse 3]
    Moving me with a sound
    Opening me within a gesture
    Drawing me down and in
Showing me where it all began
    Eleven
You're too scarred to realize this
You are the voice that's been calling me back home
    [Verse 4]
    Under a dead Ohio sky
Eleven has been and will be waiting
    Defending his light and wondering
Where the hell have I been?
    Sleeping lost and numb, I'm
Glad that I have found you
I am wide awake and heading home
    [Verse 5]
I wish that I could see you
    Turn and run to play
    Dreams are fading
    Carry my ancient soul
    Carry me into the light
    Aim your body heavenly
    Enduring a memory
    I'll come to your light
    Hold your light
Hold your light where I can see it
    Hold it
    High
    [Verse 6]
    Hold your light, Eleven
Lead me through each gentle step, by step
By inch by loaded memory, I'll move to heal
As soon as pain allows so we can
Reunite and both move on together
    Hold your light, Eleven
Lead me through each gentle step, by step
By inch by loaded memory until
One and one are one, eleven
    So glow, child, glow
    I'm heading back home

Dewey Tucker+ Fuck you man! I WAS enjoying writing shitty music until ya make a comment like that and force me to compare my songs to fuckin TOOL! U did that shit on purpose bcuz your songs probably suck too, in comparison to Tool! This is such an amazing song. I'm sure most ppl figure it out this songs about his mother passing away, Jimmy aka Maynard JAMES. Ænima was the first album that I could listen to a 8, 9, 10 or 11 minute long song lioe Jimmy, H., Eulogy or Third Eye and enjoy it. Other bands extra long songs usually make me feel rushed and I feel like I'm wasting my time waiting to get to the "good part" of the song. I STILL listen to this album with different headphones, or different sound system, or album format and I hear small notes or nuances I never heard ibefore, in 25 years and 1,000s of times playing these songs. Those rare moments are like X-mas morning! When I opened my tattoo shop in 2001 Ænima & Lateralus played on repeat for MONTHS and months. I thought the other guys were gonna fuckin kill me! Hahaha When it's your business, you can play whatever album you're feeling at the moment.

This is one of the few recordings of them on UA-cam I feel Maynard is done justice (since it's almost always off of someone's phone or back then I would imagine some video camera), so I could only imagine what it was like to be there. I see a lot of emotion from adam in the beginning which is rare, even playing jambi he just sends it without flinching. And I'm glad the camera stays on Maynard because you get to see Danny right behind him bringing such power and feel to this song. I fear Maynard will never be able to scream like this again, while playing the drums will only make your forearms bigger, singing I assume always takes a toll on someone's throat/vocal chords. I've seen Maynard 3 times in the past year and he still sounds great. His yelling just isn't as powerful, I kinda hope on this new album he does a lot of soft melodic singing so they can play any song off it live. Anyway just a tool fan that felt this video. Thanks for uploading if you made it this far.

Covers with care+ My last Tool show was September 11, 2001, bcuz of 9/11, they post phoned the show until Sept. 12th which was amazing bcuz most bands will postpone and itll be 2 yrs ril they come back. Anyways, Do you think it's that mannered voice that mannered voice can't sing this powerful anymore or do you think hes just taking it easier on his voice/throat now that he's in his 50s? I feel like he could still pull this off, but maybe after 25 years the rare emotion isnt as powerful as it was shortly after writing and recording the songs. I anxious to see how Corey Taylor's voice holds up lmao If you're a Mudvayne fan, check out their 202q shows,Chad's voice is FUCKING BLOWN OUT AND GOOOONE and I don't think he's even 45 yet.

    • @CoversWithCare
      @CoversWithCare 2 роки тому

@@kustomhooligans ya I think Maynard is just old lol. His voice isn't as strong as it used to be and he's matured I'm sure and doesn't care to yell so much anymore. I literally just saw slipknot and mudvayne at the same show in November, mudvayne was so bad we walked away. Corey sounded better than he ever has.

When I was 13, my stepfather beat me. I had enough, and beat him back. Because of the shame he felt, he told my mother him or me. My own mother picked him. I went with my father. whom I had never met. He was a 6'7, 350-pound alcoholic. His wife was insane. For the next few years, I was beaten, raped, gagged with bloody tampons, cut, and ultimately escaped with a punctured lung, broken ribs and lacerations that are true today at 43. I say this not for pity, but because I have two beautiful children today that no parent talks to. That said, a part of me is stuck in that place where my father lived. This song makes me weep.
