Walking in Woodstock

- A light drizzle stroll through the historic market town of Woodstock. The broad streets, easy cafes and the narrow alleys all leading one to feel that this town, a hop skip and a jump from Oxford and encompassing the wonders of Blenheim Palace is one of the easiest places to spend a day. On this particular evening, however, the tourists were absent, the weather was dour and most inhabitants were indoors hiding away. The perfect day, in my mind, for a wander.

Thanks. I find that I most admire those videos, like your own, that rely on natural sounds to fully immerse the viewer. But at the same time, I watch my videos umpteen times before uploading and if the sound doesn't lift them, I like to use music. And some of the music available, like that here, lifts what I have done tenfold.

As you note in your description, Woodstock was quite quiet, due to the light rain. It looks like a wonderful place to explore with all of the narrow streets and the amazing stone walls. I can imagine driving down some of these streets would be a challenge, due to how narrow they are. I love the architecture. There are so many wonderful stone buildings. It is nice to walk when there are few people around. The pathway at the end of the video was quite nice. They always make me think about what is around the next corner. Thank you for sharing this tour of Woodstock. I really enjoyed it.
I am so happy to read that. Thank you for your comments. Woodstock is an outstanding place. It opens on to Blenheim Palace which was the family home of Winston Churchill (in fact he was buried in Bladon which is the nearest village). On a Sunday morning the town is packed, every coffee shop and pub filled, tourists mill around. But on this evening it was almost like an ordinary English town that nobody knows about. The architecture is amazing. It lifts the spirits to walk down these stone walled alleyways. Thank you for the support.

@@purelysounds1 There are quite a lot of stone walls and pathways around this neck of the woods. But I love them too. In fact, my camera has a tendency to quickly pass new builds and hang around anything that looks over a hundred years old.
Oh my, Jago, that was absolutely sublime! I watched all the way through (nice fade out at the end) and then some as I wanted to rewatch the walk along the lane in the opening, it got me hooked! Thanks for sharing this lovely walk. ATB. OAAW
I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I've been sitting on the video for weeks as there were a lot of things that bothered me about it. Some of the movements, the traffic sounds, colour wobbles... I uploaded it as private and then deleted it. But I realised that there were things about it that I liked even though others might not. I have a love of gloomy weather. It's bizarre and perhaps a bit gothic but I just love those grey sky drizzly days. not even rainy, just drizzly. And I lucked out hearing one of the music tracks and thought I could use the music more than usual. I also wanted to have the fade to white because there was a strange feeling coming through that tunnel of trees. I'm always happy when a video works for anyone but I'm particularly glad this one has because it was almost discarded. Thanks for the support.
@@jagoturner you definitely made the right choice to share this walk. However, I do know how it feels to “sit on a video” because there maybe certain aspects of a video that we are not happy with, I myself have decided to scrap the last village walk I did because I’m not happy with certain moves that I made during the walk, funny thing is tho, they felt fine at the time of filming but watching it back made me cringe!(I probably tend to overthink things too much). Oh well, back to the drawing board I guess! Anyway, Jago, I thoroughly enjoyed every single second of this walk, please, keep doing what you are doing, because I absolutely love your video walks!
@@OutandaboutWalking That's good to know. I always have moments I don't like. I had one situation recently where, in the middle of quite a long walk, I wasn't able to open a gate. As I kept filming like some idiot, I was pushing and pulling, trying to make the camera look like I'm glancing around while, in reality, I was furiously trying to get the gate open. In the end, I cheated and cut out about three minutes to where the walk was able to continue. Stupid to worry about it. A sane human being might have just stopped filming, found a way to open the gate or climbed over it, and tried for a perfect matching shot and an invisible cut. I tried to do two things at the same time and ended having to make cut anyway. I did think about getting rid of that video too but I ended up posting because the pros outweighed this con. I cringe all the time and once I've finally uploaded a video, I tend never to watch it again because even if nobody else notices the thing that I don't like, I do.
@@jagoturner I can relate to just about everything you have mentioned and don’t get me started on gates, lol! And on your last point, I am with you all the way on that, I never watch a walk again unless I have to because of a viewers question regarding something to do with the video (conversely, I did enjoy that one video we recently discussed!). It is good to compare notes as it is not something I really get the opportunity to do so with any other content creators. ATB.
@@OutandaboutWalking I'm the kind of person who enjoys talking about where things didn't go so well. I'm sure that some people have their route well checked out and know exactly what flaws might emerge before they set off. I'm usually aware of more-or-less how things will work out. Sometimes, though, I suddenly change direction because of something unexpected or someone who clearly does not want to be photographed and there'll be a horrible jerk when I'd sooner it was all smooth. Sometimes, my walk is too quick and the movement too bouncy. Sometimes the walk is too slow and a little dull and I don't realise until the edit. So much can go wrong so I'm always impressed by the people who seem to do it so flawlessly. I'm still figuring out the terrain.
