- Walking in Cheltenham
One of the most beautiful cities in the United Kingdom, Cheltenham was originally a spa town. In some quarters, it is still called Cheltenham Spa. To walk around Cheltenham is quite different from walking around almost any other city in the UK. With plenty of neo-classical architecture. Ionic columns all over the place. You can't throw a stone without hitting an ionic column somewhere or other. And yet it is a proper city with all that this implies.
I don't know Cheltenham very well but after a few hours, I am hankering to know it better. I have often said I wouldn't like to live in a city again... But this might be an exception. It really is a very fine place. Like many British cities it is full of parks. I wandered through a couple and much of this walk is within the fashionable Montpellier District.
Technically, Cheltenham is on the edge of the Cotswolds but you wouldn't know it.

Left Cheltenham for London forty years ago and haven't been back since. This revived so many memories. It hasn't changed in the slightest.
Wow. I left London 25 years ago. But whenever I return, I barely recognise it. The entire skyline has changed. I remember when the Post Office Tower stood out. Now, it barely registers below so many of those gargantuan glass structures. Cheltenham is quite spectacular in a different way.

Thank you. As I don't know Cheltenham well, this is the end of a much longer video. I found it an enchanting place. Maybe, when one doesn't know a city well, one sees it like a tourist and so the beauty stands out. I always hope that this is the effect of the videos, that I have caught something of that sensation. When people visit the UK for a short time, Cheltenham might not be on their tourist itinerary and yet it is a joy to walk in these streets.

This was a wonderful tour of Cheltenham. It looks like such a beautiful place. The architecture is incredible. I love the columns on the buildings. The churches are really wonderful buildings. They are so ornate and beautiful. The parks are quite nice. It was fun to see the girl laying down by the fountain and enjoying the day by the water. It truly looks like a wonderful place to visit. As I might have mentioned, it is a city I do not know well and I was wandering around and being quite stunned by how lovely it looked. I'm sure there are parts of the city that, like all cities, have flaws or problems, but I didn't see them on this walk. Thank you for your comments. They are always appreciated and helpful.
