the reason Somalis don't have government is that they don't believe in hierarchy. So, no princes or kings or presidents in Somalia. where are my libertarians?
I thought of the Shawshank Redemption, and the argument between Freeman and Robbins in the cafeteria about hope, and how dangerous and damaging that is (according to Freeman, and now this man also) in a place like prison.... very apropos writing.... I can understand that completely. You'd have to adjust, have to let certain things go, it would be far too painful to even think of loved ones or home (in a hostage situation in Somalia for crying out loud).... pretty brutal man....
Fact, Somali pirates came about when foreign fishing vessels would invade Somali national waters and illegally catch fish and basically ran the locals main food source dry. It was pretty justified at the beginning but then they realized stealing shit is a lot more productive than catching fish.
Thats not totally true, the fish are all dead due to foreign pollution of Somalian waters, i.e plastic and land fill. I know a couple of Somalians i was shocked when they told me what was happening there.
Nope, they didn't even have nets before westerners gave them that tech. No way did they have this fishing paradise full of peace and love and freedom. If not for forigners stopping them they would still be enslaving each other and without forigners sending aid a good portion of the population would starve and die.
🙄 the US refused to allow government in Somalia since 1991 what you are calling government are few installed puppets who just rubber stamp what the US dictates including telling them they can’t talk to their opponents even if that were to produce peace and who are forced the debt of money they haven’t take from IMF and are expected to pay that money with interest
In a lane adorned with eloquent verse, where hearts find solace in poetic embrace, a tapestry of voices weaves a symphony of beauty. Among them, the Somalis stand as an enigma, a testament to courage and valor unmatched. They embody the spirit of lion-hearted warriors, yet their souls overflow with generosity and kindness. Gratitude fills our hearts, for in the grand tapestry of nations, these noble souls do not wield the powers of the West, China, or Russia. And as such, they remain untainted, preserving the purity of their essence, a beacon of untamed grace.
What type of cars? What cell phones? What examples of conversations give away the difference in life perspectives between Bev Hill resident and a Somalian? @@rogue254 the Cubans and Russian saved them. There is a area where more than 300 cuban commandos got killed by Somalis and till today they go to pay their respect. Somalia would of won the war if Cuba and Russia never intervied
The pirates didn’t make Somalia unsafe, it was unsafe long before the emergence of modern piracy. Arguably it’s Siad Barre who’s responsible for Somalia being unsafe nowadays
The problems begun with Britain, France and Italy dividing up Somalia then playing tribes off against each other to protect their ships. Later, Italian trawlers using massive drift gillnets fucked the Somali fishing industry which was to be the countries main source of international trade. Other Italian vessels dumped huge amounts of toxic waste offshore for the cost of $1.25 per ton where it costs $125.00 per ton to dispose of in their own country, hit local small fishing villages. Somalia could have prospered if they'd been 'allowed' to control their tuna fishing industry or even had their pleas listened to regarding their waters and fishing laws, but all we focus on is some Jimi Hendrix looking dudes wearing welding goggles trying to survive in a post colonial nightmare. Look into their fascinating history, ancient Egypt called Punt 'the land of the gods'.

My Nigerian prince hasn't paid up yet :/
@john steams Yep. Guess this person doesn't know their Africans that well.
the reason Somalis don't have government is that they don't believe in hierarchy. So, no princes or kings or presidents in Somalia. where are my libertarians?

Worked with somalian refugee coworkers in a factory in Germany back then. Honest, brave and fine people in a outcome life
I thought of the Shawshank Redemption, and the argument between Freeman and Robbins in the cafeteria about hope, and how dangerous and damaging that is (according to Freeman, and now this man also) in a place like prison.... very apropos writing....
And not all of them were/are fishermen. Just Somalis seeing an income opportunity.

4:14 is Rogan talking about Somalia or the US CJ system?
"The Government is more focused on Mogadishu" Yeah the Government Controls like 4 Blocks in a whole state haha

There used to be one universal punishment for piracy: a short drop with a quick stop. Idk why this has to be so complicated.
This.
This guys answers were super vague and disappointing
What type of cars? What cell phones? What examples of conversations give away the difference in life perspectives between Bev Hill resident and a Somalian? They lost a war with ethiopia in 1979 and govt failed in 91. 40 years of turmoil
Rogue didn’t lost to ethiopia. Communist Cubans and Russians save Ethiopia’s ass.

It’s not safe for the pirates who made it unsafe? Only in Germany.
Germans be like: "What is a Pirat?"
Also Germans: "Do they pay taxes?"
Pablo Escobar Well they’re doing something right.
It’s a principle of international law, dipshit. Every country is supposed to uphold it, not just Germany.
The pirates didn’t make Somalia unsafe, it was unsafe long before the emergence of modern piracy. Arguably it’s Siad Barre who’s responsible for Somalia being unsafe nowadays
Interget All that colonialism and drawing straight lines for countries had nothing to do with it. Nothing at all.
Perfect timing. I just watched the South Park episode of when Cartman takes Butters to Somalia.

No it didn't. Somalia has been capturing, castrating and killing Bantus for 1400 years. Somalia has always been backwards. Always.
