Rockstar's Abandoned Racing Game
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лип 2024
- In 2008 Rockstar released a title that would be considered as one of the very best within the genre, sadly though the lack of advertising and the subsequent chaos within the studios resulted in the series being left behind and the company solely focusing on GTA. So we're taking a look into Midnight Club LA to see if it were truly as good as people make it out to be!

What do you think of about the Midnight Club series? Let me know your opinions and have a great day! ❤
Nice
Midnight Club LA is my favourite racing game of all time next to Blur and Burnout Paradise. 🥰
midnight club needs another game
Funny thing that i never finished the game still after years XD
Still waiting for return
If you loose your car in a pink slip race, the rival will use your car in races. You also have the option to win your car back.
Never knew that
@@gnrtx-36969I purposely lose pink slip races to race my own vehicles. I’ll race and focus on clean driving and style driving
This whole franchise is gold, really sad it vanished away
Flash those beams bro. Keep racing
There is No midnight club game that is bad,all of them are gold, the first game was a good introduction for lauch title, the 2nd one is really good but why is it like underated?,the 3rd one is the san andreas version of racing games(because it was made or published by rockstar and it was golden),la was a good game for the modern age of midnight club
From my understanding some of the people who worked at rockstar indeed quit and some also got fired after midnight club L.A was released which was the sad part rockstar didn’t think making another midnight club game because it probably won’t sell as much
vanished? i still have midnight club 3 dub edition on my psp and i play it everyday.
@@sigob3973no new ones
Ah, a game from the time when R* actually released games. Things like the cop system where you can drive off when getting ticketed or the different types of events (e.g. car deliveries, pink slip races), as well as a decent story (especially in terms of racing games) truly made this game awesome!
@@purwantiallan5089 Exactly, their portfolio was so much healthier than it is today...
@@mrxbas lil bro knows nothing about economy and whips out word like "healthy portfolio" for a company under an umbrella of another company. Roflmao
@@wildnugget1675 I keep forgetting that it's indeed Take Two who is the publisher, although the point still stands: they didn't just work on one single game (GTA V/online) while leaving all the other franchises collecting dust.
@mrxbas Doesn’t sound like you fully understand how game development works.
@@guitarboyjeff I know why it's not done (that should be quite obvious), I'm just personally sad about the fact that we may never get anything outside of GTA and Red Dead anymore from R*.
As someone who got into MC just this year, it sucks it's dead as a franchise. The racing genre really needs good games like this to exist!
For a late 2000s game, the grapgics of MCLA really have aged very well. This along with GTA 4 proved on how advanced Rockstar Games were at that time.
Hello dove, in MCLA, the tire profile, ride height alongside tire dimension can actually affect your car's grip. Modifying them can make your car grippier and helps to reduce body roll for better cornering
Could you elaborate further? I need to know this info
Wide tires 🛞 = more grip, lower ride hight = less body rolling/leaning through corners.
@@vaulthunterfromterra4053 to add to that, lowering tire profile can also improve grip in most instances
@@alexiscardoso1413bigger and wider wheels equals more surface area and bigger contact patch, lower ride height means less body roll and lower profile tyres means less tyre roll which all equates to speed
he's not wrong ^
Instantly.... Hundreds of childhood memories come flooding back.... I loved playing this wayback when
I've always wondered whatever happened to the Midnight Club franchise
@@purwantiallan5089 ?
@@purwantiallan5089 not everyone is a weeb, dude.
Idk what he’s talking about, but that was a bit rude.@@RorschDG-2
As someone who is relatively new to racing games overall, I've always heard good things about MCLA and how fond people are of it. It's sad that such a game was left to the pages of history considering the amount of people who would like a remaster or sequel of these titles. Great video as always, it's always nice getting to know more about games I don't know about. Props to you and your editor for this cool video!
with the way they treated gta tragedy and rdr1 (as I written this comment) safe to say it's for the best
This and MC3 also do something that is weirdly lacking in NFS:
Unique custom parts. The game managed to license only a few bodykit options, so the rest are entirely made up by the devs, some of which look rather good too. So.. why doesn't NFS do this? The bodykit options for the NSX NA1 and R32 in Heat was rather disappointing, and now they lost all licensed parts for the R34 outside of the Nismo kit. They used to do mostly fantasy parts, so why did they stop all of a sudden if the car customization is meant to be a major selling part? If you can't get real kits, then make up your own that take inspiration from real ones.
Worst thing is they used to as well, the BlackBox era NFS games had fantasy kits for all their cars and I think it’s the biggest reason why the customisation felt so deep and detailed back then. Nowadays I feel like I only have one or two options for most cars in most games and it will inevitably look like everyone else’s
They got lazy just like the madden developers
@@MO_Diskit's not that deep
@@MO_Disk Almost all of the custom skirts, roofscoop, hood, spoilers, bumper and body kit designs in NFSU2 looked ugly and haven't aged well IMO.
@@RIPzippyshareYou shouldn’t blame the game if it isn’t the game’s fault
Midnight Club Los Angeles is such a gem of a game. It's one of the reason I decided to start a UA-cam channel, and only increased my love for cars more. It does so much that newer games can't don't do today. I still play MCLA to this day and is exactly how I remembered it. The day where it will be completely perfect to play on RPCS3 and Xenia is where all racing fans achieve inner peace.
I remember playing this wayyy back on the Xbox 360 and feeling like it was an amazing looking racing game. It even included the all new Chevrolet Camaro (the famous Transformers car) and I even got to own one for a bit some years later. That car was all the rage in a society with a huge car culture.
“In the delivery game mode, you have to deliver cars to Carol’s garage without damaging them”
*broadsides a bus*
Ohhhh how I wish Rockstar would give Midnight Club another go. 😢
I mean people love Rockstar's games, they've probably become the single most trusted developer when it comes to the quality of their games. And thats only become more true since 2008.
So I dont see why they wouldnt do it. There's absolutely a market for a Rockstar Racing game and I would probably get it on Day 1 for the reasons mentioned above.
Thanks for giving me nostalgia feels, Dove ❤
I feel like eventually they’ll do a remaster or something similar, all their money right now is going towards testing things for GTA 6
Still owned it on the PS3 for almost 7 years now.
Played this all the way back in 09 and playing it again recently on series x still absolutely amazing
Man, you ain't lying. It feels so good to play these games on the XBOX Series X. I'm so glad Microsoft gave XBOX backwards compatibility feature and quick Resume is amazing.
Midnight Club Los Angeles and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 are backwards compatible and so many other great old games.
It is a good time to bring this franchise back. Racing games have had a small resurgence. Forza is on top, NFS is finally trying to do something, The Crew has the best maps for now, Test Drive Unlimited, the former king of the genre, is returning. All of these franchises have their strengths and weaknesses, but Rockstar makes games like no one else can, and when it comes to open world, they are on top of everyone.
Midnight club 3 and Los Angeles will always be the best racing games I’ve ever played period.
honestly the amount of effort you put into these videos deserve much more subs , keep it up
Thank you that means a lot!
Just subbed recently, your content is really quite informative and enjoyable. Keep it up!
Thank you for the kind feedback!
This man is getting 100k Subs by the end of this year ;)
Great video man
Imagine if Rockstar would announce midnight club with toyota and gta 6.
They would break the internet off a new Midnight Club with Toyota alone. And crush Need For Speed at the same time
This game aged so well
100% agree
Like fine wine
Still criminal that we didn't got any PC port for MC3 and LA
Me and all of my friends loved Midnight Club as a series. Wish Rockstar would actually make a new one that was decent but that seems like a dream at the moment.
Playing the midtown madness games as a kid was life! I LOVED ALL THREE OF THEM!!!
I remember buying MCLA on a whim because it was cheap on an Xbox Sale.
Knew nothing about the franchise as a whole as I'd only really been into Forza Horizon 1 at that point.
One hell of a surprise to me, still some of the most fun I've ever had playing Racing games.
I've been playing Midnight Club LA on my Xbox Series X and I love it!
I only have the standard version, but I'm looking to getting the Complete Edition soon.
I have it on my series s toi
The game is cross compatible?
@@NateandSelena yes
i have complete edition which i got for xbox 360
Fuck yeah 🎉🔥
This game was advertised in the uk. I still remember the promotion with rustlers burgers as a child
im so happy to see this video midnight club is so underrated and needs more games because the game is just fun
Great Vid , loved Midnight club
A thing lot of people doesn't mention that, Angel Studio was responsible for porting Resident Evil 2 to the N64
Bro i love ur videos. I kinda miss the longer ones though
if you mean longer vids like challenge runs there are some in the making and there is a long essay project that im working on
This game was ahead of its time and underrated
Used to love play this game back in the day and just watching it on UA-cam brings back memories
The progression in this game is really nice. And pretty good customization
Love the MC3 and MC2 bangers thrown in there
These games will forever be ahead of its time 👑
The Midnight Club games were great, but it always felt like they were in the shadow of the Need For Speed Underground games. Street racing was huge, with the release of Fast and Furious, and that game captured it early on.
Midnight club was actually a defining piece of media in my childhood. It is single handedly the most nostalgic franchise for me. My family at that time in the early 2000s we're building cars for drag racing and my step father made sub woofer boxes and installed sound systems for people, so I was actually a kid when the DUB craze was in the car scene (rhe magazine even came in the mail in my house) i saw cars with dub plates and spinners and shit in real life all the time bc these we're the car's people wanted the biggest banging systems in... So its no surprise that midnight club 3 DUB edition was constantly in my PS2 as a kid. My parents had all 3 though so i experienced them all, i still look back at 2 fondly and remember using the cheat code to get all the cars then driving for hours around the maps. As a kid who was surrounded by cars and loved them, the midnight club was my go to game. It also helped that it had all the cars i got to see in real life. Nfs was cool and all but I'm from the south where it's more old schools and SUVs which was most of dub edition. Not long ago i went on a 2 day hunt for the dub edition remix for the ps2 I have. You'd be surprised how rare it is to come by now, atleast where i am. No retro game shops had it and no one i knew had it. So after calling and going to every game shop in my vicinity I finally got a hit, the employee i called at a game shop all the way in Jacksonville (NC) 2 hours from me had it at his house but not in the shop, but he was willing to meet up at a foodlion and sell it lmao. So. I drove the 2 hours with my friend and a fresh 20 dollar bill, picked it up and brought it home... Well... It was fuckin broken and wouldn't go past the loading screen.. shit made me wanna break everything lol. So the third day trying to play DER i had to get it resurfaced at my local retro shop.. put it in it worked like a charm. I played every night after work for like a month and a half NIGHTLY. i typed all of this to say.. midnight club will always be my favorite and the most important rockstar product till this day for me. All of them from 1 to LA. The environments, the customization, the cars, the true street racing feeling you get flying through highway traffic and alleyways, the sense of speed, the soundtracks, perfect 10 out of 10 video games and I'll stand by that forever. (Well the first one was a bit barebones and rough, but still fun and nostalgic as hell nonetheless)
Also nice throwback with GTA 3's intro music
I wish they would do just one more midnight club 😞 just like midnight club 2 where we can race in la france & tokyo but just modernized & a bigger story line
I started playing midnight club Los Angeles for the first time! ❤ It is a crime that Rockstar stopped developing dedicated racing games! I get why these were so popular now!
As a long-time fan of Rockstar Games, I have to admit they have created some incredible gaming experiences over the years. Titles like L.A. Noire, Bully, and many others have left a lasting impression on gamers worldwide. Their dedication to crafting immersive and engaging open-world games has always been commendable.
However, it's tough to ignore the recent trend of focusing primarily on GTA 5 for revenue. While I understand the commercial success of GTA 5, it seems to have become the main focus, overshadowing other potential projects. As a fan, I crave new and fresh content from Rockstar.
I genuinely believe that Rockstar is a talented company capable of creating diverse and innovative games. They've proven it in the past. It would be amazing to see them take risks and invest more in new IPs or revisit some of their older franchises that fans have been yearning for.
Let's hope that Rockstar continues to balance their resources and pays attention to the desires of their dedicated fan base. We know they have the potential to create extraordinary experiences, and I'm optimistic that we'll see more diverse offerings from them in the future. Until then, I'll still cherish the memories and adventures I had in their earlier games. Rockstar, don't forget about your roots and the passionate community that supports you!
Great work Dove thanks 😊 I love your channel's videos and this savage game 😊I hope rockstar brings Midnight club back from the dead 😀 LA was amazing I love rockstar games 🎮
i still go back and play this game, but i miss midnight club 2, i wish they would bring the old ones back
One of the best racing games i played. All you had to do, to get the 1M deal done fast, is to just use the DUB Lambo for the rest of the game. No need for those low cost, and high risk-high reward sport bikes
HOLY SHI- I have played both Midtown Madness and Midnight Club but I didn't know one was based off the other
I love the MC games. Definitely my favorite racing games next to NFS up to the original Most Wanted. Me and my grandfather spent so much time playing these together.
I recently finished this game after rage quitting a year ago because I lost a tournament on the last race on hardest difficulty... Yeah... But I still love that game
i have the complete edition of this game and i love it, i should come back to it soon
I loved this game so much, I bought the game guide before I got the game!! Although I think Dub Edition had a bit more hood/blower customizations
Absolutely loved MC 1,2 & 3. LA at the time was a miss for me but should revisit it!
What are you running the game on, it looks so good
I remember playing all midnight club games and its one of the best racing games during the ps2 era , music was phenomenal, car list was wild and its customization was just awesome, i remember the race mechanics being hard because it has fast paste meaning you'd really have to focus on the road to win, but when it came to L.A i had mixed feelings for it on one hand i liked its story, online mode and it's rate my ride feature but god they really made the xbox 360 version ridiculously hard, i remember how annoying the a.i would always use a super car whenever i upgrade my D class rides, the only way to win was to use a bike, but as for the rate my ride server i remember buying cars from other players then reselling them and make a ton of money lol.
I still got midnight club la and gta 4 all editions on my Xbox and the gta 4 servers are still online
They really need to remaster this. I grew up playing this before GTA v came out😩
@DoVe_7 one fact, when you write "NFSSUCKS" on the license plate, police dispatcher would say "Need for speed sucks" which implies NFS undercover sucks. so this also results that mcla beat undercover both financially and receptionally. i really liked this game when I've first played in xbox360 but really frustrating just bcuz I'm not getting used to it
I personally liked the gameplay of the 2nd game more than the ganes after just because of how hard but engaging it was, especially towards the end of the game.
any way to download/buy it on pc? (without xbox emulators)
Was privileged enough to play Midnight Club LA on the PSP in 2007. I loved it so much
Italian job on ps1 was my first rockstar game
Ah yes another childhood game. What's got me into the Saleen S7
I've only played the Psp port as a kid, so I might have to give the original one a shot
definitely worth trying out
One of my absolute favorite games growing up. Nothing came quite close to midnight club
Rockstar have made some games like racing games as midnight club, manhunt for shooting games, and rpg game as gta, rdr, max payne
They merchant all games in GTA online, you can do all this thing from previous games in GTA online
i still have the disc to this game somewhere
I played mc la on my ps3, and I played it all the time, Its sad to see it go😔
Just as a curiosity that I found out about Midnight Club LA: The Audi R8 4.2 (first generation Audi R8) was on the cars list of MCLA and MCLA Remix, but the way of getting it was different for both games. In MCLA Remix, you have to defeat the final boss Booke in order to get it. The way to get it on MCLA for Xbox 360 and PS3 is basically impossible through official ways because the Audi R8 was a reward from Rockstar Club. The only way to get the Audi R8 into your PS3/Xbox 360 game is by replacing the save game with other one that actually has the Audi R8 unlocked.
Makes me mad to this day I cant drive that car.
This and tdu2 is what I choose every time over any horizon game past the first two, why? Because they actually have progression! You start at the bottom and work your way up, grind or no it's far more interesting than having supercars plopped in your lap because you won a single race. Only complaint I have about mcla is the traffic can be a rage inducing ball buster at times.
Described my childhood games. FH1 is good too
Yep, i played this game, it was definitely strange but not all bad, especially for a 2008.
Which emulator do you use to run this so smoothly? I have been trying to play this on rpcs3 but it plays on 1fps.
I didn't use an emulator for this , I used my Xbox one
MC Dub edition was my birthday gift back then, i loved it
I played every single midnight club game growing up midnight club LA remix was pretty lit 🔥 wish they would have kept going
Midnight Club! My favorite game from Rockstar
I had Playstation 2 in 2006-2011, then I only had a PC as a gaming platform. In late 2020 I've learned to emulate Playstation 2 and Midnight Club titles made me want to play Midnight Club Los Angeles. Luckily, I've got myself Playstation 3 from my aunt in August 2021. MCLA was the first game to be installed by myself. Loved every bit of it, this game made me feel as a child, these feeling of overwhelming pleasure when I won RX-8 pinkslip driving Bel Air.
And here I am, a hardcore PC player admitting that my favourite arcade race game of all time is a 14 years old console game with frame dips and 960x720 resolution.
i have midnight club in ps3 but it dosent work anymore, i really loved it
So many racing games lack interior customization. Hell, this game puts most modern racing games to shame with the exterior customization alone.
Smuglers run... the best game i have ever played
what's crazy is it has wheel support but games like need for speed have less customization than a game that came out in 2008
Still wanna see someone recreate some of the MCLA races in GTA 5. Certainly some very similar routes
You're literally the reason why I make racing vids
I miss playing this game we need a remaster of the games 😢😢
MC3 needs A Remaster
So does MCLA complete edition to
Some of those songs either were removed recently or they never were on the console versions.
I still play Midnight club 3 Dub Edition & LA….. best racing games that ever came out
I still have a mint disk and case of midnight club la for the 360
This game has big Californication vibes and I love it.
Mc 3 dub edition had where when you upgraded your car it had real life parts like apex and stuff
Bro said "gogs" 😂 wtf my dude
Midnight club 3 will ways be my fav 🥺🥰
Tbh a new age midnight club would be so epic cuz rockstar games always have amazing worlds.
at this point I just want to be able to play this on ps5 😭
Sorry too bad
I miss midnight club this was one of my top favorite racing games.
I recently softmodded my old PS3 to just play midnight club LA ... God I grew up with that franchise and it's very sad R* isn't making any more games in the franchise
A time when rockstar was good... This whole series was amazing!
i see midnight club as child of gta and paradise city
Wow, Viper Racing! Now that's a memory alright! Can we get a video on that??
That game is part of the manufacturer project im working on so yea
@@DoVe_7 oh awesome! Legend 🙏🏻👍🏻
MCLA, DUB Edition, and DUB Edition Remix were probably my favorites, along with NFS: Underground 1 & 2 even though those were EA. I miss those games. I created some banging cars 😔
Abandon is Rockstar's middle name.
midnight club was my childhood so sad they let it go
