In 'Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme', performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, everything revolves around the parable of the wise and foolish virgins. They wait throughout the night with burning lamps for the arrival of the bridegroom. Five of them have brought along extra oil to keep their lamp burning. The others run out of oil and go off to buy some more. The bridegroom arrives while they are away.

You are the best Bach ensemble ever
@survivaltest 370 I dont think we know how skilled the players where back then to come to a conclusion
@@Iceologer they had to have been pretty damn skilled or the composer wouldn't have written all this amazing music for them. Imagine writing these amazing concerto-parts and obbligato parts just to have a bunch of nitwits squeak and squawk their way through them.
As an organist it's always refreshing to hear this version of 'Wachet auf' (Schübler Chorale), it helps to play the organ piece more vocally.
It does indeed! ;-)
+1 😅
Sir, I truly envy You. What a pleasure to play a church organ. ❤
By far, best version ever.
Im not sure... I think Gardiner’s recording on DG is better.
You guys are the reason that I will visit Netherlands some day!!!! Thank you!
You are more than welcome. I'd also recommend the Utrecht Early Music Festival.
@@willemdefesch1687 Sounds appetizing! Dank je wel!
Bach is Alpha and Omega. There is nothing more to add ☺️
@@markusgro-bolting3070 I wouldn't be entirely opposed to adding a bit of Telemann and Händel
Are there live presentations of the Netherlands Bach Society frequently? Maybe one day I can attend one 😁 greetings from Brasil and God bless you all! ❤🇧🇷
This group is so ‘off the Richter scale’. So sublime. It just doesn’t get better than this, with the exception of being there in the audience, or with Bach himself. I especially love the tenor and the organist in this group.
Wonderful performance . I always visit Netherlands Bach Society all days !! Perfect sound
JS Bach was a gift from God to mankind. Thank you for such delicate performances. Congratulations. ♥️♥️♥️
Mille volte grazie!
Imposible contener las lágrimas ante tal belleza. Gracias Johann Sebastian Bach . Divino !! 🌹❤
It's interesting to see a tenor from the choir doubling the soloist voice. Thanks for the most professional recording, besides the beautiful performances.
The idea behind it is to produce a natural reverberation. 👍♥️
Heerlijk gezang, inderdaad!
Man this comp makes me feel like I’m starting a great journey
YOOOO BACH COME TO ROMANIA!!!! I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAN!!!!!!
An absolutely wonderful performance🍃
I agree with you

Perhaps the most musically beautiful stanza of this great hymn that arises in the midst of a pandemic, the Black Death, composed by Phillip Nicolai, a wonderful story that shows the strength that comes from the eternal hope of those redeemed by Christ!
Thanks!
Gracias!
@@alpinoalpini3849 Thanks for your comment!
Mine was a comment to the fragment of the cantata "Zion hört die Wächter" composed by Bach, who composed music to give Glory to God, as he wrote at the end of each of his scores: "Soli Deo Gloria".
Like Bach, my conviction is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ, far from being an “wishful and elitist thinking”, is the reality of the merciful call of the Sovereign God that extends to all humanity and that also invites you to the certainty of a hope that transcends our poor and short existence:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
The lyrics of this cantata BWV 140 speak of this; If you listen to Bach, it is advisable to read the translation of the lyrics of his cantatas (www.bach-cantatas.com/), where his compositions masterfully express the statements of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; to that he dedicated his life and work.
@@alpinoalpini3849 Enjoying the fruits of a devoted Christian while also totally insulting him (e.g. stating he believes in an amusement park in the sky etc). Gross.
BRAVISSIMO
👏👏👏👏👏❤❤🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
¡Ingresando al Paraíso! ¡Gracias, Bach!
Bravissimo!!

Lovely.
An inspired performance!
The best music is when we don't understand the lyrics, just listen to the beautiful melody
Watch out! Wonderful rendition
Gorgeous piece.
Prachtig. Het is iedere keer weer genieten.
Schitterend mooi...........veel dank !!!!
Any excerpt from Bach is as beautiful and inspiring as his entire work. This excerpt is a good example thereof. Thanks for the nice upload!
fantastic performance
Everything just perfect!
I may not have much but at least I have Bach
La voz de Daniel es preciosa
Bach,Deus em música.
Great
The stuff of dreams
brava!
Anyone here from Call Me By Your Name?
Merci !
Very nice performance. Perhaps, the final mixing would have been better to put a little more forward the organ and the bassoon... But the whole is of a remarkable quality. Thank you!
Brawo!!!
I'm used to hearing this Chorale with solo tenor, not like here where it's doubled by the background singers. Doesn't always match up IMO but still a good performance 🎵

Do the violins shift asking for a friend
Why are there two singing in the back? It sounds kind of messed up because they aren't blending with each other well or are out of sync slightly.

Tempo seems slower than customarily
Por qué cantan tres tenores al unísono?

COOL BUT: 300 YEARS OF BRANDEBURG CONCERTS
Way too slow for me, I’m sorry. Sometimes I feel Jos van Veldhoven tends to get lost in details, and BWV 140 is an example. Listen to John Eliot Gardiner‘s early recording or others, where you can perfectly follow the cantus firmus.
To each his own. I actually prefer it quite a bit slower than this.
@@itskarl7575Yes, my favorite is the Karl Richter/Peter Schreier speed.
