That number 9 segment was such a personal vendetta for me, ten years in the making. I even recorded most of the footage you see there. I’m super proud of that segment, it’s everything I’ve wanted to say and more.
As someone else who had play TTO before it shutdown, it really did suck to see what could have been such a grand finale Only to see in an twist of irony, to have the big suits of the company kill the colourful world that was brimming with creativity and wonder. It is nice to see the fan revivals pick up where it left off in their own ways. TTR showing how powerful The Chairman is in the shadows by changing the way Field Offices work and with Corporate Clash and while showing Robert Cyger to players to see who he really is, still having massive power over the company even by who continues to work and who gets fired simply by not doing their job for 1 second.
At this point Minion has 3 different faces: Happy go lucky geek, Somber wholesome sounding therapist, and a unstable violent sociopath drunk on Borderlands 2 Krieg flavored mountain dew code red
@@Jessica_Schweser I am a Logan, myself and I agree! I've gotten angry to the point of hitting and BREAKING a supposedly sturdy light switch cover. At times I sound like a geek, or maybe a happy zookeeper talking about their job like the animals are their babies. I kinda agree about the therapist thing, too, but I couldn't do that myself. As a fellow Logan, i say to Minion... Let the chortles continue for many, MANY years.
Funny how Fawf's Minion is one of the most literate overexplainers I know, but I never feel like my time is wasted watching his work. That's good writing, folks!
That sums his work on yt well and personally I think it got better as he went along. Dude literally taught me most of my vocabulary by complete accident and I read a dictionary like the brobel
Unown is such a disappointment to me as well. So much so that the name drop actually caused me to say "you" under my breath like I'd just found out that my arch-nemesis was behind the plot. It broke little me's heart to find out there was nothing more to them.
Bonus points: in the remake of gold&silver they DOUBLED DOWN. Keeping in the god-awful "collect the flying alphabet soup" ruins of alph, while not adding ANY rewards for it. But not only that, but NOW, if you have archeus on your team, you can create a level 1 version of ANY of the main legendaries from d&p. And WHO helps archeus create them? The unown. Also: one of the mystery dungeon games REQUIRES you to kill VERY SPECIFIC unown to progress the story. So now they have successfully blue-balled 2 generations worth of kids using the same unown strat.
The kicker here is, because of them pushing unown so hard despite it meaning nothing, no one wants anything to do with them. Flygon, dunsparce and others are always touted as wasted potential, but atleast fans gave enough of a crap to let these pokemon see their potential. Unown doesn't even get that because any potential it had was forced onto it and never used.
Every time I see that Lexicon-Shaped Eyeball of a Pokémon, I want to nuke every last location they can be found, just to make them go extinct. Don’t care if it’s the Ruins Of Alph or the Solaceon Ruins, Team Galactic ain’t got nothing in the firepower I’ve got
Spoilers for #1 If there's one idea I feel is prime real estate to give Unown a proper glow up, be it a battle overhaul or something new entirely, it'd be in a Legends-style game set in Johto that lets you live the tale of the Brass Tower burning and birth of the legendary beasts. Like, the potential title alone, "Pokemon Legends: Unown" that goes hard as fuck who wouldn't wanna play a game called that!? Anyways, excellent stuff as usual, Logan!
I really like this concept. However, if they're going to do something with the world you're talking about, they're going to go with the being that is able to get you there in the first place. And by that, I mean a little green fairy with the power of time on its side.
I genuinely wanted to catch them all in Arceus because I was willing to entertain the idea that they would finally have significance given the implied link to the big mon himself. But no. Arceus didn't even get a new form in his own game.
@@cameroncooper5941 It also hurts very hard when the game flat-out gives you a “piece” of Arceus, implying that the real Arceus has a Darkseid effect. Which means if his true/original form is ever present, the universe would collapse… or just Game Freak bullshitting us but hey, I’m just happy to legally own an Arceus.
Nothing breaks my heart more than to see something so cool and unique in concept be treated like yesterday's garbage. Let me tell you. I felt and resonated with you regarding early 2000s Mario character designs, Balan, Shadow The Hedgehog's story, and especially Unown. That last one open up major inner frustrations from my soul.
I felt that sonic frontiers was apologizing for the apathy that sonic team held for the story from 2006 to around 2017. Sonic forces was the worst of this since it held the metaphorical keys of a sonic generations sequel in front of the fanbase face
Can't blame anyone of the green Earth for thinking Unown would get similar game purpose to the Regi-Trio. Ruins, ancient beings with their own alphabet. Hope whatever 1-6 letter curse you spelled out for them in your team composition goes right back to 'em.
It really does suck how corporate greed can get the better of these franchises and have them be not just drag wonderful ideas and creative motives into the ground but to have them be plowed down in the dirt and turn to fine dust. Wonderful countdown as always (also anything with Toontown Online is an instant W in my book.).
I’ve been meaning to say this about “Balan Wonderworld” I think the creators should have asked Double Fine (the guys who made Brutal Legends and Psychonauts) for help making it since platform game with strange and bizarre art styles are their specialty
Your script writing makes every segment of these lists flow like a damn musical. I love it. Thank you for making such investing content, makes me excited every time you upload. Keep up the good work, man.
If you're turning 30 next year, then I implore you to never stop what you're doing for the foreseeable future. Your craft is improving every year, and I want to have chortles from watching you for years to come.
0:46 anyone know what this is called? I remember playing this game at my friend's house and I can't remember for the life of me Damn he went full rage on Unown, though he's right for doing so. It would've been so cool to see a new creature appear if you collected all 28 Unown. Something similar to the Entei movie.
9:38 "We could have Barett leading Voyagers to Treasure Planet, Chocobos hanging out with Kevin, Kefka and Bill Cipher team up! KEFKA AND BILL CIPHER *TEAM UP!!!!!!"* Boy, if that were to happen, Josh Scorcher will be very, VERY hyped.
Imagine if they did this with later show and movies. Barrett and hiro fighting heartless while Baymax helping them. Luz from owl house helping a black mage facing against army of heartless…and oh yeah. Mickey and cloud fighting against the demon from night on bald mountain!!!!
Never gonna happen because Nomura didn't design Kefka and TV shows don't belong in KH and people coming up with those scenarios are just setting themselves up for disappointment but of course they're gonna blame Nomura and Disney for it.
Lmao I dunno if it's just my own personal bias speaking, but this bit in particular gave me a hilariously blursed thought to consider: if in some other timeline where Kingdom Hearts greatly expanded on their selection of representing Disney and Square Enix characters, like say including characters from spinoff entries of main series Final Fantasy games or Disney's theme park attractions, does that mean we could have hypothetically gotten characters like Genesis Rhapsodos or Captain EO in here? I know Kingdom Hearts is no stranger to having big name celebrities in its cast of voice actors, but knowing who these two characters specifically were played by in their original source material, that'd be one hell of a musical crossover collab. 😂
I'm honestly surprised Gamefreak has never done anything cool with Unown considering they created the Ruins of Alph for them. You know, the Ruins of ALPHabet. They should have done what they did with Zygarde and have them combine into one form once you find them all. Call it some thing cool like Alphamalgam or something since it would basically be an amalgamation of all the Unown all in one powerful bowl of alphabet soup.
The best that Game Freak even did with Unown is how it was a scavenger hunt in Legends Arceus, with the book giving you hints on the locations of each one.
"How dare you promise me an adaptive morality system only to premeditatively destroy its appeal" Just about sums up the experience of being a dragon age fan, going from the first game to the third 😔
For #9, you forgot that other Disney MMOs had the same fate as well. At first we blamed Club Penguin for such tragedy… but they ended up like a traitor being stabbed in the back themselves by the Big Bad. Toontown’s lucky to have a steady revival so far, while Club Penguin… let’s just say the met with a fate so terrible, Majora’s Moon impact looks like a minor dent in the earth
I had a crappy windows Vista at the time but I heard pirates of the carribean online was assassins creed black flag done better. Even had a cool looking villain
the death of club penguin essentially broke my school grade group. we were just little kids at the time so we had zero idea if we could bring it back let alone how. everyone in my grade played that game so it being shut down rocked us to our core. we never did all get into another game like that again.
It's honestly so wild seeing how much of a mess Club Penguin's fan revivals have turned into. Racism and grooming so horribly bad that it made national news and got the attention of the Mouse, who quickly sent their army of lawyers to destroy them. Say what you will about any drama that happened in the early days of Toontown private servers, at least it was self-contained to the Toontown fandom and never quite reached that level of depravity
The red star from Super Mario Galaxy. It’s only used for 1 purple coin mission and can’t be used in actual levels. The one power up that grants flight in a game about intergalactic exploration and it’s locked to the hub world.
On the Kingdom Heart statement, outside of the main trio of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, the Disney characters aren't that important either. The story almost entirely focuses around the games' original characters.
Damn, that Unown section genuinely dove into believably in-character mania from the perspective of a mad researcher. "Why do they hang around gods? Are they the *words* of gods?" "Then why can't I read them?" "Why don't they *mean* anything?"
Out of the many wasted moments in video games, I think the most recent that stung me the most was Infinite from Sonic Forces. Seriously, his design is unironically amazing, his voice is menacing, his theme absolutely slaps, and his powers have to potential to be the most creative and destructive obstacle Sonic could ever face. However after his first cutscene wailing on Sonic, he immediately gets shoved in the back burner as the main story doesn't really do anything to explore his character, and the episode shadow cutscene pretty much tarnished any cool factor he could of had in that tantrum he had. What hurts the most is that he gets beaten in an anticlimactic manner and as of now in a post-Frontiers era, I don't think Sega/Sonic has any interest in revisiting him in any manner.
Balan deserves alot better then how his original creator and team treated him and wished he was brought off by someone else who can handle his gameplay more better.
Agreed. The idea was there but was executed poorly due to gameplay and the story being split up into separate medias for no reason. The only things that looked like it had a ton of effort put into it was the cutscenes and music.
Agreed Like my god they gave us one of the coolest character designs and concept Only for him to be marked by a bad team and bad game. Its really sad honestly.
With Nintendo ditching unique character designs, it makes one wonder if they’re trying to not follow Sega’s example of having too many unique characters. This comment aged like milk left out in the Arizonan sun.
While it doesn't make sense to NOT bring back the unique versions of the various species, on the bright side, more recent games have given the basic species more characterization and, in the case of The Origami King, even full on character development and emotional connections with the regular versions of the characters.
@@SmokeTheHorsehog I'd argue the characterization bit has been there all along. For example, Sticker Star has the _only_ Wiggler you can meet in any Paper Mario game to date, and he is absolutely adorable, not to mention _plot relevant twice over._ We also have the Snifits not liking Mario yet still allowing him to play their games. But sure, let's completely ignore all of that because "LiTeRaLlY aLl CoPy-PaStE tOaDs LoL!". As if there were ZERO such Toads before the 2010's. See, this is why the complaining about the designs of characters in the Mario series fills me with more fury than Fawful himself can _dream_ of having. Designs alone do not characters make. Take away Bobbery's nautical appearance, and you still have a Bob-omb who had to go through hardship and heartbreak to be able to do what he enjoys again. Take away Waluigi's hilarious, self-pitying personality, reducing him to just a caricature of Luigi, and he wouldn't be _nearly_ as beloved. By that logic, Twink would have to be a bad character, and thus we would have to ignore _all_ of his character development throughout PM64, just because his design is literally just a star with a face.
@@SuperGoker64 I believe the argument for giving the characters unique designs is that, by giving them unique designs in addition to their personalities and character development, it makes them more memorable in general because it's easier to identify them as different from the base characters.
Red, from Megaman X7. He has this cool grim reaper-like design that fits for both an antagonist and someone trying to tackle justice on their own. Unfortunately, even the flashbacks don't show that much of how he used to be before his fall, instead trying to foreshadow the Professor being the true mastermind (which falls flat because he's obviously Sigma). What makes his lack of presence especially aggravating is that Red *does* have a more interesting past... In supplementary materials, which document how he was one of the last remaining Repliforce members and in his time as an independent Maverick Hunter he was so inspirational that a group of reploids joined him and even named the gang after him. Too bad X7 was nowhere near good enough to do any of its plot points justice.
What's honestly funny is that there *is* a use the #1 entry has... and it's one that I rarely see anyone bring up. Granted, it's only in one spin-off game, but that honestly makes it worse, because there was a way to make it useful right THERE, only for it to never get implemented in the main series. In Super Mystery Dungeon, there is a mechanic known as the motivation boost. Every so often, members of the Expedition Society will get motivated and earn double the EXP boost should you take them out on a dungeon excursion for the day... except for Unown. When Unown gets motivated, the EXP boost they get (times three) gets stacked onto the already-existing double for a whopping SIX times. Which is applied to the entire team, just by having Unown in the three-mon dungeon squad you take in for the day. And because all of its forms are in the game, that makes it all the more likely for a motivated Unown to show up and buff your entire party. It's regrettable that they never did something like that in the main series. It'd give a reason to have one in your party, even if it's just for the purposes of grinding. Imagine the potential of it stacking with the likes of a Lucky Egg, on top of a defeated Chansey/Blissey. Godlike EXP gain.
OK number 8. This is from a person, who rarely plays final fantasy. I'm really happy I'm not alone on noticing the lack of final fantasy in the final fantasy and Disney crossover. The Kefka and bill cypher team up idea in particular got me screaming, Because THAT IS SO COOL AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT!!!! Sadly, if final fantasy continues to lack representation, I could see bill as a threat that is bossing around Malificient or being the fawful to malificient's cackletta
I do agree that The Unown is probably the overall most wasted mechanic in pokemon but In my opinion, I hate SO MUCH it whenever a game series adds a mechanic and instead of continuing to use it and expanding on it and making it better! They take it away to do something new EVEN WHEN the Mechanic is a Fan Favorite Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, D/G Maxing, Most likely Terastaling, and even Kirby dose this, Super Abilities, Hypernova, Robobot Armor, Friend Hearts, and most likely Mouthfull Mode. All of these mechanics (some more than others) are loved by the fans and are just begging to be expanded apon to be made better and more intristing! (Again some more than others)
@@jhenderson2159 This whole game was entirely SquarEnix's idea, Yuji Naka originally wanted to make mobile games but he said yes anyways. Why, didn't Yuji Naka left Sega because he wanted more control, yet he's obeying Square despite the fact that they might be asking too much???????
@@orangeslash1667 I honestly think they should've settled the bullshit when a game wasn't being made. Rants hidden in game code is a thing Plus I don't trust any company that sells half their IPs and do NFTs
I'm just going to say, that Mario Hoops 3-On-3 reference in the Number 8 segment hit *_STONE COLD._* Also, your rant on Unown solidified why I see you as my favorite UA-camr of all time. You speak the damn truth. It's a shame Game Freak doesn't think the same way.
I relate to number 5 so painfully it hurts, I really hope Square-Enix finds some other use for Balan and Wonderworld besides the subpar platforming gameplay it's trapped in. Could be an action game, adventure, RPG, anything!
The Unown are pretty much suggested to be the coding language for all of reality in the Pokemon world. The problem with them stems from essentially taking a single line of code, and asking it to do _alone_ what the whole system it's meant to be a part of can do. That's just not gonna happen! Unown cannot function as individuals, they need to be part of a network in order to work to their fullest potential.
I have to say, this was... one of the most emotional videos I've seen from you in a while, and that's saying something given the heart and passion you always exude. I can find myself agreeing with every segment, whether it's a game I otherwise love, or one I've never played... Cancelling Toontown Online right before the finale, because of corporate greed of all things, is poetic, and not in the good way. It's just a relief that something, ANYTHING was salvaged from that. Useless Megaman weapons and Zelda items always sting, because they're the entire POINT of the respective games. It'd be like Metroid swapping out the Space Jump, Speed Booster and Plasma Beam for "Purple Missiles", which are just regular missiles that open purple doors (of which there are 3 in the entire ame) Shadow's story... oh, gods... I genuinely love Shadow the Hedgehog as a game. I even like the mission structure from a gameplay perspective. Only from a gameplay perspective. Trying to find any actual meaning in the story is useless. The only worthwhile thing in the cutscenes is watching Shadow do anything, and even then, he's drowned out by an alien starfish and an un-named heterochromic GUN Commander yelling about SA2's plot like they're drunkenly remembering it. It says something when the real-time fandub that was done purely to be stupid and ridiculous, still had a better and more coherent plot, using the EXACT SAME cutscenes. Balan... ugh... How did they design one of the BEST main characters imaginable and then waste him? And Unown... Unown to me represents one of Pokemon's biggest and worst flaws. Leaving it's own stories half-finished. Whether it's because Game Freak don't get the time they need, or whatever, it stings. So many questions that'll just never get answered. Will Ingo ever see Emmet again? Will Zygarde actually get to do something instead of being a cameo in every game he's ever been in? Will the Mythicals (aside from Arceus and Deoxys) EVER get to be explored and not just one-time events? We don't know, Game Freak can't tell us, and the Pokemon Company doesn't care. Unown is THIS close to being bigger than the sum of it's parts... it's SOOOOO close to being some big secret, some mystery, that allows us to uncover a super-ancient Pokemon, like how Regigigas was hidden in ORAS. But Unown never gets that. It gets alluded to with "oooh, the floating alphabetti spaghetti is so mysterious, what does it mean?" and going out of your way to document all 28 forms gets you... a few Pokeball stickers, a Nugget, a dex entry and 28 copies of Sunkern's Psychic-type cousin-in-law.
"Will Zygarde ever get to do anything" well hopefully ZA will give it that chance Also I think Pecharunt is a mythical so you got the "mythicals get to do something".
For Unown they should give it an evolution that is just all the Unown you gathered clustered into a swarm, to reference the many times we see large numbers of Unowns being mighty strong and able of warping reality, but here, it’s just strong enough to become a very capable Pokémon, a reward for finding them all, and so your box frees up by merging them all into a single unit you can also take into battle without occupying all the slots It would also be neat if the Unowns had an ability that powered them up the more of them are in your party, to further reference the fact they’re stronger when there’s more of them
As a teen who likes making trading card games, this Video, although harsh, gives me motivation to keep my ideas alive, to bring the life t9 its extreme. I hope to at least get one out into the world someday. I’ve actually been making progress lately.
Shadow the Hedgehog's implementation on the theme of free choice does feel like a contradiction of itself. You get to determine which ending Shadow pursues? Free choice. Shadow says fuck my history and goes through the rest of his life the way he wants? Also free choice. They're both great in concept, but they seem to work against each other to some degree in practice. I love the game as is, but even I agree it probably could've been one continuous story of Black Doom, Sonic & co., Eggman, G.U.N., the whispers of Prof. Gerald, and the whispers of Maria all constantly telling Shadow what they felt he should be like. Maybe they broke it up into 10 stories to make it more interesting?
I’m glad ToonTown fans got a happy ending. Us Neopets fans have to deal with our childhood game living long enough to see themselves become the villain through NFTs and crypto bros
Club Penguin had a even worse fate tbh. First, they were blamed for Toontown’s “demise”, then they themselves were shut down by Disney… and one attempt of fans to revive it ended really badly, which not only shattered hopes of bringing back the franchise, but also damaged a good amount of morality for a reason OTHER THAN COPYRIGHT
I feel that Balan Wonderworld as a whole was wasted potential bogged down by both excess and minimalism with all the superfluous costumes, a lack of in-game story, and the one-button control gameplay.
8 and 5 irks me SO MUCH!! With 8:What's the point of making it Disney and FF when Disney mostly took over!? Which is fitting for Disney. And Bill Cypher being besties with Kefka?! BRUH THEY BE MAKING BANK WITH THAT! THEM BEING BFF'S WHILE MAKING EVERYONE'S LIVES A LIVING HELL! COME ON ITS PERFECT!! And with 5:...SO. MUCH. WASTED. POTENTIAL! When I heard of Balan and that it was gonna be like Nights I was hyped! Not to mention when I saw Balan's design he looked amazing charming and alluring! While with Lance he looked so brooding angsty and mysterious obviously making them into the Nights and Reala of their universe! I WAS HOOKED!! Then it came out...The fans knew they KNEW it looked undone and even told Mr Naka to delay the game. THE FANS WANTED IT TO BE DELAYED! That's a first! Also we don't even get to fully play as Balan?! Only the kids?! Yes there was kids too in Nights but Nights was the main focus! And they rolled with it! It could've been so much more! The only thing that people love about it was Balan and Lance's designs the cutscenes and the music. Balan deserved better.
Couldn't agree more with the number one spot. I LOVE those guys, and they really do nothing. I once defeated participated in a 4-player battle royale when ultra sun/moon were new, and I killed a garchomp with my shiny unown D. I felt amazing.
I felt that last one... Sadly, I think after Pokémon went through its reboot back in Gen5, Game Freak decided it was too much trouble to put anymore thought into the Unown, which is why the world has its own language instead of one based off of the Unown like it used to... and for someone who is all about the lore, it kills me just to think about it.
For Number 10 I think they don't utilize the unique Mario characters because they could run into the same problem Sega does with their Sonic characters where there'd be too many to keep track of and try to keep relevant and for Number 8 I think used they had FF characters because there was a lack of an original cast for Kingdom Hearts and they had to use them for both clout (honestly who expected a crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy to work) and to have some semblance of a cast
This is a great topic, reminds me of a college class I was in which basically simulated a studio. We were making a small film that had a ton of potential (trainride to the afterlife was the concept), but the script was hot garbage. All text, 11 pages, nothing to animate other than people talking. I fought HARD against this but admittedly it wasn’t my job- I was on the character design team. Specifically masks. Lemme tell you, we poured our SOULS into designing the “death masks” of the characters. Symbolism, ease of animation, all of that. They looked awesome. But they were stuck with THAT script and we didn’t even finish the film. I even originally did concept art of some fun surrealist set pieces for the short, but of course those weren’t used. I wouldn’t call this a waste though, the designs live on. Same goes for everything on this list- they got screwed over financially, but their existence is validated by leaving enough of an impression to show up here for compliments and appreciation. Recycling is a wonderful thing.
Funny to come back to this video after growing to like Unown so much it’s actually in my top 10 now lmao Look, it’s cute, it’s expressive, and it’s fun to draw. Those are the three keys to an animator’s heart.
Honestly, I still like Unown because of the Entei movie and because they're cute, but that rant was totally deserved. It's safe to say that we are NEVER gonna get any concrete answers concerning their role in the Pokemon universe, and that just pisses me off. What was all the setup for? Like, we didn't even get anything major about them in Legends: Arceus. The game about the Legendary Pokemon they were connected to back in HGSS, and we got NOTHING. Does someone high up at Game Freak HATE Unown? Because if so, then great job, whoever you are. You got one of the most positive people I've ever seen to hate it, too. Fawful's Minion actually HATES a Pokemon now. Well freaking done.
Your wordplay remains outstanding as usual, good sir. "Lesbian marshmallows" will live rent free in my head from now on. Bro, Fawful's Minion has FURY indeed! I honestly can't remember the last time I heard him so frustrated over something. Spoilers! To find out what was the deal with Unown (more like _severe lack thereof_), I just can't blame the man. So many GSC veterans robbed!
the pokemon unown has such a large disparity between lore and gameplay. i wish there was an actual reward for getting all the unown like some sort of evolution where they're together and actually powerful. say double the base stats, some sort of signature move called "unknown power"(the only move it will ever get) where it changes type to be super effective, and sure give it a clone protean/libero ability (although functioning like old version, not the nerfed gen 9 version). the issue is IVs and EVs. for EVs, I guess just take the first unown's EVs. ideally for IVs, take the highest iv value out of the 6 unowns for each stat. but if we want to keep it simple, take the last pokemon's IVs.
I’d be down to see a Kingdom Hearts game that takes a break from the Disney Animated Canon. Like imagine if we got a spin-off that involved Oswald the Lucky Rabbit traveling the worlds of the other Square Enix IPs and Disney tv Cartoons. Regarding #10 I hope the upcoming Mario movie helps bring back the style of the Gamecube and Early Wii era. Hell I’d be down to see them utilize obscure characters. Imagine a Paper Mario game that returns to the style of the first two games that utilizes characters from the SNES version of Wario’s Woods. The opponents there could definitely work as partners. Imagine Kooper, Kolorado, and Koops as skins in Mario Kart Tour or a Mario and Luigi tour that added Fawful. As for Banjo Kazooie, while Stop and Swop in the Xbox ports is disappointing, I’d want to bring up that they could’ve had the car building in Nuts and Bolts in tandem with the collect-a-thon gameplay. Like some missions could use a vehicles while others are on foot.
Loved this video... but let me tell you what's a WASTED opportunity Logan, Fawful's Minion How have YOU not come up with a fun rap song yet?!?! With your alliteration skills, humor, and writing we want, no, NEED a song from you.
#8 Ah, you see you've made the common mistake of thinking that Kingdom Hearts is a Disney Final Fantasy crossover. Don't worry, everyone does. It's a Disney game that Square Developed, and Final Fantasy characters get to cameo
Admittedly, the character design for Wonderworld (alongside the music) is still good! Square just sabotaged Yujinaka at the last minute more than anything.
Honestly, Balan was one of the best character designs I’ve ever seen, the music was fantastic and art design was amazing, but the gameplay was the big downfall, such a wonderful idea was wasted… Honestly I wanted Balan wonder world to be good… but i had to unfortunately agree with everyone, Maybe one day we could have another chance with Balan, but honestly… we have no chance to see him again
16:18 I agree with fawfuls minion on this. Loved Balan's design and theme. Yet what we got was such a waste of potential. If anything I would rather blame the creators for rushing it out rather than taking the time for polishing and better formats.
9:45: That's...probably never going to happen. Kingdom Hearts has NEVER touched Disney TV. I'd want it to, but dreams of Dipper Pines, Cornelius Fillmore and Goliath are not going to happen if the world counts stay low. If they kept to a "small worlds, but a lot of them" paradigm, they would have had to eventually. But they slashed the world count in III. And I don't think IV's going to increase it enough for Disney TV to enter the discussions.
The thing about Balan Wonderworld there's a lot of cut content including the story. It's not difficult to get ahold of it either. Story itself being made into a book called Balan Wonderworld: Maestro of Mystery. Apparently Square Enix stuck their nose in the development process and tried to sell off the aftermath like there's nothing wrong. I don't trust Square Enix with any game as they're still doing NFTs. A bigger kick is that any bugs are being fixed for every version except for the Switch. Literally hasn't been a new patch after the Final Boss one.
Number 5 spoilers I honestly wished balan wonderworld was a good game. Its so pretty and cartoonish and I love the stretchy animation. And as you said, Balan is a great design and concept. But the execution, gameplay and story was just terrible. It needs alot of polishing and changing to make it work.
Honestly I felt the same for Balan Wonderworld. The initial trailers made the game look fascinating, fun! I saw great promise from it and I was excited for it! But then you start playing, and... It did NOT live up to that initial excitement... I wasn't angry, I was disappointed, which frankly is worst...
Oh man Balan. I actually finished it and it's so frustrating how little it uses Balan. I do think the game has some interesting ideas, but its utterly maddening how much it squanders them, especially its white-brimmed conductor.
13:30 Fun fanct, the Megaton Hammer is the only weapon that Dark Link doesn't mimic so you at least can get 1 extra use out of that .. ... but I do still see your point
I think the only reason why Kefka hasn't been in Kingdom Hearts yet is because he would just steal the plot and make himself the final boss. Not that that's a bad thing mind you.
Not just the Unown got the short end of the stick but other features as well every time a new game comes so must a new mechanic while the old favorite gets axed after 2 games Megas,Pokémon walking with you,Triple & Rotation battles,Battle frontiers,Roller blading poof… I see Gamefreak not just took notes from…COD but Paper Mario as well
Haven’t watched any videos on this channel in 4 years, I think the algorithm just screwed you over at one point and you stopped showing up in my feed, but I digress. It’s great to be back! Love the content, seems you’ve taken your original style and just continued to grow on it relentlessly and it’s so great to know you haven’t faltered in your awesome and creative scripts. So I actually have one positive story to share about Unown amidst all the negativity that it rightfully deserves. I actually caught various letters to spell out my then girlfriend’s name, followed by “Will you marry me?”. She’s my fiancée now, so, it worked! @@FabBrigade EXACTLY.

If there's one idea I feel is prime real estate to give Unown a proper glow up, be it a battle overhaul or something new entirely, it'd be in a Legends-style game set in Johto that lets you live the tale of the Brass Tower burning and birth of the legendary beasts.
I'd kill for them to have some kind of Goldengo style evolution where you have to have one of each to evolve them into a new legendary
The unown hurts because I've only seen them as means to an end, collecting them in Gen 4 to have letters for my unique capsules. Nothin else.
@@cameroncooper5941 It also hurts very hard when the game flat-out gives you a “piece” of Arceus, implying that the real Arceus has a Darkseid effect.

If we got any backstory on the Alph and the Celestica, maybe a game set even a little bit in Sinjoh, it could solve some Unown mysteries
Shit, that’s honestly a cool idea
The best that Game Freak even did with Unown is how it was a scavenger hunt in Legends Arceus, with the book giving you hints on the locations of each one.

#2 Disney TV shows aren't allowed in KH.

Unown's name is not worthless, because it literally tells you not to own it
On the Kingdom Heart statement, outside of the main trio of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, the Disney characters aren't that important either. The story almost entirely focuses around the games' original characters.
It’s always fun when Minion starts yelling using words that sound like they don’t make sense together but they entirely do.

Tell them to shove the stupid Deadly Six out of existence and bring Infinite back!
I one hundred percent agree. The potential was there, and that potential was badass. Bring him back, Sonic Team! Do something new with him!
Agreed
Like my god they gave us one of the coolest character designs and concept

With Nintendo ditching unique character designs, it makes one wonder if they’re trying to not follow Sega’s example of having too many unique characters.
This comment aged like milk left out in the Arizonan sun.
Better having too many over none at all
Look at Paper Mario, litteraly killed itself with Sticker Stars
Considering Mario Odyssey, I don't agree with that statement.
You also have other franchises they still have
While it doesn't make sense to NOT bring back the unique versions of the various species, on the bright side, more recent games have given the basic species more characterization and, in the case of The Origami King, even full on character development and emotional connections with the regular versions of the characters.
I will never forgive Square Enix for not letting us play as Balan. Like bro that would've been sick
Red could have been so cool, but expecting anything from MMX7 might be a bit too much xD.
Unown were treated better in the Lost Silver Creepypasta than in Pokemon itself.

Well, that joke at 24:13 aged like the finest of wines.
It'd be like Metroid swapping out the Space Jump, Speed Booster and Plasma Beam for "Purple Missiles", which are just regular missiles that open purple doors (of which there are 3 in the entire ame)
Shadow's story...
"Will Zygarde ever get to do anything" well hopefully ZA will give it that chance
Also I think Pecharunt is a mythical so you got the "mythicals get to do something".
For Unown they should give it an evolution that is just all the Unown you gathered clustered into a swarm, to reference the many times we see large numbers of Unowns being mighty strong and able of warping reality, but here, it’s just strong enough to become a very capable Pokémon, a reward for finding them all, and so your box frees up by merging them all into a single unit you can also take into battle without occupying all the slots
It would also be neat if the Unowns had an ability that powered them up the more of them are in your party, to further reference the fact they’re stronger when there’s more of them
As a teen who likes making trading card games, this Video, although harsh, gives me motivation to keep my ideas alive, to bring the life t9 its extreme.

As someone who never played Neopets, I’m so sorry for you.

Skyward Sword actually reuses a lot of its items, one of the only zelda games to do so. Even the slingshot is important in late game.
As a artist who studied CGI ANIMATION, seeing such incredible potentials go down the drain by dumb decisions……. HURTS, BAD…
Funny to come back to this video after growing to like Unown so much it’s actually in my top 10 now lmao
Look, it’s cute, it’s expressive, and it’s fun to draw. Those are the three keys to an animator’s heart.
They need to release a swarm form of Unown. That's always when they get the cosmic powers is when there are a lot of them.
I always get thinking after these videos, so thanks for the introspection.
excellent video.
23:42 At least he's not drinking, FM.
Those censor noises are gonna fucking murder me
And here I was about to ask Logan’s opinion on Cosmic Shake…now I’m hearing him spit absolutely STRAIGHT FACTS about #2!
I never thought I’d be laughing at the “Peter doing crack” skit twice in one day.
I feel like unown would be cool if it got a similar ability to wishiwashi or an item that once you collect all the unown they become one pokemon.
Yeah, Unown are pretty useless, but the concept is still cool, and nothing will stop me from finding them all over again! 😁
Bravo, GameFreak. You made Bean Boy have fury.
Unknown exists purely to make badass designs for Pokémon infinite fusion
The Megaton Hammer of OoT did have some usage in the Water Temple against Dark Link and in the Gerudo Training Grounds. Not much else though...
I agree on Balan. All they had to do was not make everything tied to one button.
24:13 that joke aged well
Fitting that the #1 pick for the speedy spastic speechifier would be a wasted language.
That John Wick joke is hilarious in hindsight
"KEFKA AND CIPHER TEAM UP!"
I'd kinda love that.
I'm glad that stop and Swop was scraped, it means that people don't need Banjo Kazooie to fully enjoy Banjo Tooie.
Loved this video... but let me tell you what's a WASTED opportunity Logan, Fawful's Minion
How have YOU not come up with a fun rap song yet?!?! With your alliteration skills, humor, and writing we want, no, NEED a song from you.
#8
Ah, you see you've made the common mistake of thinking that Kingdom Hearts is a Disney Final Fantasy crossover. Don't worry, everyone does. It's a Disney game that Square Developed, and Final Fantasy characters get to cameo
Admittedly, the character design for Wonderworld (alongside the music) is still good! Square just sabotaged Yujinaka at the last minute more than anything.
*inhales*
Sigh...
_If only Balan Wonderworld was just as phenomenal as Balan's design_
24:13 Logan can predict the future confirmed.
Come on. We all secretly knew.
Putting Unown at the top of this list is one of the most based things you ever did
Honestly, Balan was one of the best character designs I’ve ever seen, the music was fantastic and art design was amazing, but the gameplay was the big downfall, such a wonderful idea was wasted… Honestly I wanted Balan wonder world to be good… but i had to unfortunately agree with everyone, Maybe one day we could have another chance with Balan, but honestly… we have no chance to see him again
Number 5 is what I expected this list to be: great character designs stuck in bad games or with wasted roles in the game they're in.
Number 5 spoilers
I honestly wished balan wonderworld was a good game.
Unknown is even worse when you consider you had to learn freaking BRAILLE to uncover the Regis in gen 3.
Not just the Unown got the short end of the stick but other features as well every time a new game comes so must a new mechanic while the old favorite gets axed after 2 games Megas,Pokémon walking with you,Triple & Rotation battles,Battle frontiers,Roller blading poof… I see Gamefreak not just took notes from…COD but Paper Mario as well
Thanks to this video I have a newfound urge to design a legendary for my fakemon region that ties into and explains unown lore.
I’ll be sticking around this time, probably catching up on old videos I missed and also rewatching the M&L month content that was my favorite throughout my childhood. Keep up the great work, cheers!
So I actually have one positive story to share about Unown amidst all the negativity that it rightfully deserves. I actually caught various letters to spell out my then girlfriend’s name, followed by “Will you marry me?”. She’s my fiancée now, so, it worked!
(Also as an extra fun fact, the question mark was shiny, so that’s cool)
I had such a big rant with a friend about balan when it was released.
