Saw Johnny and his brother play in Kansas City KS in the autumn of 1969, (not long after Woodstock). He and Edgar spent about 15 minutes backstage listening to my questions and such modest and friendly guys. Johnny had a little mishap that night and lost his footing, hit his head near the edge of the stage during a song. He had a heck of a bruise on his noggin, but he was red hot. Edgar's band opened and Edgar sat in on a couple of numbers with Johnny's band that night as well. I was just a kid then and they were such good guys. Great memory.
I never had the opportunity or pleasure to meet Johnny, and I actually think about that often. He's one of the people who sparked my desire to play guitar as a boy. I did have the great pleasure of meeting Rick Derringer quote a few years ago when he played a surprise show in the football field of my old highschool. What an amazing show, and am awesome time just talking with him for a bit. I still have the cup he signed for me and keep it in a glass cabinet. 2 of my most important guitar heroes
Just hearing Johnny speak is such a pleasure... He was always such a complete & gracious gentleman void of pretense or assumptions. Seemed like the kind of man that would pull over and help with your car if you broke down in the middle of the desert.
I still have Johnny Winter, Progressive Blues Experiment album which I bought when it came out and Second Winter, classic blues albums. One of America’s greatest guitarists.
Saw him many times. I will always put him up as one of the top few guitarists in the rock/blues world It is inexcusable that he is not in the rock and roll hall of fame. It is sad to see him so weak but still catering to his fans. I will never forget hearing Johnny Winter and... live around 1971. Turned my music world upside down
I don't know who's posting these videos of Johnny Winter but I sure am glad I'm getting them, I'm glad somebody has the sense enough to know just who Mr. Johnny Winter was and is now in my opinion one of the greatest blues legends to ever sing and play the blues, and that's a hell of a list of great players my friend, Johnny to me was at least in the top 5 in the history of the blues, I grew up listening to Johnny Winter, and his guitar picking and slide playing and most of all his singing was like no other, you do the math.
Missed seeing BB,Albert,Roy Buchanan, but got to see Johnny at a small bar,got very close,he played his Lazar, but when he put the Firebird on everyone went nuts, sure had a style that was very fluent, and flawless, and you could see that he and Jimi would compliment each others blues playing styles, fond memories
Love Johnny. Only got to see him live once. It was at a bar called Liberty Lunch in Austin in the 80s. It was a blast. And loud as hell. My ears rang for hours. One if my guitar heros. God l hate getting old.
I was fortunate enough to see Johnny Winter three times (twice in the '70s, once in the '80s). Man could he play. The early shows were the rowdiest I've been too. Fights, bottles being thrown (not at Johnny). Good times. He definitely earned his place among the best guitarists of all time.
I saw him at Liberty Lunch in Austin about 95. Was ring side!! It was amazing ! It's sad to see your heros grow old and frail. RIP Johnny. You were 1 of the greatest!!
Almost like seeing the last of the Mohecans, Johnny Winter was a legendary player, and certainly a man to aspire to, he was certainly a one of, sadly missed, rest in peace Johnny winter.
Not only a blues Legend but he also was the slide King, I never met him but in every video clip like this one where I have watched his behavior he always seemed to be a very humble man♡He passed away about 2 years after this concert I believe♡
I was in that bus and he signed a book for me called Total Guitar after he played in Courtenay at the Sid Williams theatre on Vancouver Island. He was amazing to see play ,i saw him in Vancouver too at the Comador ballroom..
I was fortunate enough to catch him twice. I felt like I was watching a ghost, because he was all spirit and just totally transparent. Thank you Johnny! RIP
On the sound check notice there's a guy called Tommy Emmanuel who's following Johnny. Check him out; Tommy is the ultimate one man band. I'm a Johnny Winter fan from years back, Tommy has a different sound, he's just as phenomenal. As Johnny used to say "check this out..."
He really had a hold to the blues . Big influence on me . I’m lucky to have seen him back in 1989 . The man was I. Fire and gave it his best till the end . He left earth in his sleep . He will be missed .
Loved his dedication to getting to 'the other side' of all of his troubles...Pure blues!...Some of those troubles basically caught up with him, anyways, but it was a lot later than it would have been because of his fight.
When Johnny died he was worth 10 million dollars... He did this cuz he loved his fans and he knows we needed to hear him.. he didn't need money he never needed money he's been Rich since he was 25 years old
Nice to see the French loved him so much, and he was so gracious....but kinda sad, too, past his prime and still trying to pump it out...tough life, right to the end. 😔
My guitar mechanic worked on JW's guitar at a show at beachland ballroom in Cleveland Ohio, he was overjoyed at when he got the call from my other buddy mike miller who is the house sound man for the venue
I'm so glad I didn't ask for his autograph. He asked if I wanted one, I said I didn't bring anything to sign and I'm not sure if it was Paul who said how about your shirt I said thanks took it off and JW signed it on the back up below the collar.
A nice fellow and gentleman. Saw him to Times in private. Nice discussion. But in fact is a sage. i spoke lot , him a few but he hear a lot and spoke a few but just right
Johnny signed for record albums and I bought a poster he side for $80. They are all framed and hanging on my walls, I saw him in a group Johnny Winter a n d in Dallas in 1970 December 18th with Rick Derringer and drummer Bobby Caldwell they open with a song I guess I'll go away
I Thanks megaforce records for this pleasant gift to add me on the bonus from "Down and dirty dvd" . I had just a picture but now saw him moving and speaking with him it Will stay forever. in my heart and my mind he Still but add me in this dvd is saw us moving and speaking together then more that this picture . In my wallet is always Still in this pic
Johnny did seem to enjoy signing my 1931 National...after playing it. A memorable moment and the guitar brings it back...maybe that's the thing about the signatures...keeps the memory... but yeah why does someone need more than one?
I seen the man in 5 venues and the dude rocked the joint. Toads place New Haven CT / Palace Theater/Bad ass flying arm cuffs. Amazing show to say the least. Bing
It’s like he has had to suffer an onslaught of fools for the last 30 years asking him silly questions or as this guy trying to give Johny an album that Johny knows well since he made it and has plenty of them. He is just there to play. Not to look at the countryside. Even at the end it was just forty minutes of his fingers being a blur.
I don’t quite understand why he chose the headless guitar over a fender or Gibson. I had 2 Steinbergers and I hated them Kept breaking a string with the lock tuning. Maybe he endorsed them
I would like to know why or how these fans got to meet johnny since I been a kid I wouldn't to meet him so bad but me and my dad who are huge fans my dad seen him 25 times where robbed of meeting him wtf
Meet his doulganer @ foghat & b.o.c. show. Left him alone for the most part asked can I sit here Knees r killing me. Lrg. Amount stairs. Told him I had 2 come support blues & rocking roll in walworth country. Later I asked if he knows Mary shellies frankinstin.& was kicked out of a house 4 listen 2 it. Beautiful smile nod & shook his heed!
The irritations of stardom. Some take advantage. Getting old is a sad thing. Everything is taken away. I'm 66. But, Johnny played till he couldn't play anymore. That's what we all should do, too. Because if you don't die soon you will die later. And later happens quicker than you think. ua-cam.com/video/eyOpXoCEtGQ/v-deo.html One of his best songs.
Johnny Winter will always be my favourite blues, rock guitarist.

You got that right! Ebay is full of forged Johnny Winter signatures !
Just hearing Johnny speak is such a pleasure... He was always such a complete & gracious gentleman void of pretense or assumptions. Seemed like the kind of man that would pull over and help with your car if you broke down in the middle of the desert.
I met him in Atlanta airport, July 1970. Talked a few minutes, nice man, just a fellow hippie.
Johnny's Laugh cracks me up... Everybody Loves Johnny Winter...Wish he was Still Around...
Great video, Johnny was such a generous soul.
I still have Johnny Winter, Progressive Blues Experiment album which I bought when it came out and Second Winter, classic blues albums. One of America’s greatest guitarists.
Those two are his best, well I think anyway

Sweet dreams
Rock and Roll hall of Fame doesn't deserve to have the mighty Johnny Winter. I love Johnny. 1970 Live album was a life changer for me.
It is unbelievable that he’s not in the hall of fame. Just goes to show you what a joke the hof is.
hall of shame ,We Can't Get Good From Evil ",so we can choose to do the best we can

About 20 years ago, Johnny Winter signed my friend's birthday card in Regina, Canada.
I had the privilege of seeing Johnny in 1977 in Hollywood Fla. I had to pay a whooping $5 worth every penny
