So underrated. Who the hell gave Rolling Stone license to insult this man’s unreal ability with #63 in the lineup of best guitarists. Listening to Johnny Winter is an out of body experience.
He considered himself a blues guitarist exclusively and refused to market himself as a rock guitarist or play stadiums, and at that time Rolling Stone was primarily a rock rag. If he had marketed himself as a rock guitarist then he would've been classified up there with Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck and Eddie. If you visit the Blues Hall of Fame (of which he was twice inducted into a long time ago) you'll see him listed up there with the greatest blues guitarists that ever lived.
I think that's sheer rubbish, #63...? I'm a huge JW guy and I hadn't seen this performance 'til now, which onto itself clearly demonstrates how deaf, dumb and blind some of these "writers," can be. Johnny was such a Pioneer of the Rock/Blues and also Blues/Rock as well, IMO that alone should put him over a whole bunch of cats with a lot of chops and much less of a contribution to music as a whole. Winter, in that regard, is a Giant. Also his work with Muddy Waters... smdh. My friend and great Musician Paul H. M. (RIP) once told me: "...the band leader comes to you after the gig and says, 'I've got some good news and I've got some band news, the good news is you have a lot of chops..., the bad news is, you have a lot of chops.' " Cheers and keep it Rockin' Johnny Winter style!!!
How can somebody put thumbs down on this song.............guys that are obviously in the wrong place.......should be somewhere else because here........they do not belong!
There are a lot of haters for the blues. The problem is most of the blues follows one scale and count. This makes all the songs sound the same when you learn how it's done. Johnny Winter is very mundane in this way. Imagine painting something, then watching a ton of other artists paint the exact same picture over and over again. It becomes a chore to spectate it. Some people really enjoy listening to it. I enjoy playing the blues but listening to someone else play the same shiz is boring to me. I wouldn't down vote, but some dudes might.
@@281cu6 I'm so sorry, i'm french maybe google did not translate correctly my point of view. Thumbs down are just because people forget that Blues is the roots? Is it better
Yes, I didn't know this one was in Johnny's repertoire, I believe it was written by Buddy Guy but Ike And Tina were who made the song famous for me. This is marvelous. R.I.P. Mr. Winter, I got to hear your brother but never you which I will always regret.... Until that blessed day when we're both throwin' em back and watching you reign at the Pearly Gates Blues Bar & Grill.
I've always been able to identify Johnny within 10 notes. Sometimes those notes came in 10 seconds and sometimes in .5 seconds. So glad that I was born when I was so I can appreciate great guitar playing. Feel sorry for kids today who think Kanya is talented. The Winter brothers. That's talent.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me
@Ronin Nash i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.

RICHARD MC INTYRE Hall of Fame is nothing but BS even The Moody Blues just got inducted people who make the decisions they're got their head up their ass
Years ago I saw Johnny Winter at the Hollywood Bowel. He stepped on stage for just some Blues. Of course Dickey Betts stepped in to see if he could match the guitar virtuoso Mr. Winter, but soon and thankfully soon, Mr. Betts simply had to sit down, watch, listen and learn. Great performance that night and the other times I saw Johnny Winter preform. He didn't play the guitar, his fingers simply glided over the strings.
Everything is right about this band. The chemistry, rhythm, feeling, improvisation, creativity, spirituality, even the mistakes and of course the music. It is called HARMONY and this is of course one ASS KICKING HARMONIUS AND INSPIRING PERFORMANCE. BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was my hero as a teen guitarist and I owed him so much. I am so happy to have gotten to become friends with him later on. I miss Johnny and his amazing talent .Rock on ❤
We gotta give Jon Paris some too, he's one talented genius, playing two instruments simultaneously, one with his hands and the other one with his mouth. Not too many can do that.
Real blues lover's, the purists know that we don't need the HOF to tell us what a superstar Johnny was. In a bluesman class all by himself just the way he wanted it.. 👍👍
Straight out mr winter the best blues guitar music I believe ever heard on any recording and a guitar lesson to be taught as a true blessing and gift from the guitar god Legend god bless him
One of my favorite concerts that I ever went to was Edgar Winter. It was in New England, and i guess we were lucky to get him. He played for awhile and then, after a great set, he came out to the mic and said, People keep asking me..........where's your brother? Just then Johnny walked on stage and the crowd went wild. The rest of the concert was the two of them playing like they were back home in Texas. Amazing.
I saw Johnny a number of times over the decades. Incredible person! He always looks so frail, but then he starts to play and that thought disappears.............
Anyone with some life experience behind them can love this. The youngsters that just got out of school and tell all about how tough life has been, are amusing.
I met Johnny Winter at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1970 when I was assisting the man who arranged to have him brought over. Johnny was a very shy and retreating young man who was wild on stage.
I saw Johnny along with James Cotton and J Geils at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle in 1975, he blew all of us away that night. The epitome of guitar slingers!
talented amazing artist, people don't get his art now a days bc. they don't what art is!Jhonny Winter will always be a truly blues man! for decades and decades to come, the rock and roll hall of fame will never understand his talent.
Man of never ending licks. Rip Jonny, the only other guitarist that Jimi Hendrix wanted to learn from. Jonny played a mean ass slid, and Jimi asked Jonny to teach him.
Johnny Winter , One the pillars of texas rock and Blues along with other great guitarist of sll time Should be taken into account by Tolling Stone magazine 🎸🎸🥁🎹
Johnny is my hero and his always has be.I think that he play guitar and sing better than srv did.....!! Johnny are The Best slideguitar player Ever...!
Now Johnny and Stevie where two of my favorites ..... I would never want to one against the other as they both played the best they could each in their own way But both inbraced the blues and kept it alive for the generations to come -both worked with the legions of the blues and always treated them with respect that they so deserved And sadly they both passed away much too soon ,but either one will be every forgotten
So underrated. Who the hell gave Rolling Stone license to insult this man’s unreal ability with #63 in the lineup of best guitarists. Listening to Johnny Winter is an out of body experience.
Maybe they misplaced the decimal point - it should be .63 in the top 1, amazingly precise and soulful.
i have him in top 10
