  • The Volkshalle would have been seven times the size of St. Peter's Basilica with a dome 16 times larger and room for 160,000 people.
Germania: Hitler's Dream Capital and Albert Speer’s plan to transform Berlin into the capital of a 1,000-year Reich
In the years leading up to World War II, Adolf Hitler didn't just see Berlin as the capital of Germany - he envisioned it as the capital of the world.
But according to historian Roger Moorhouse, Berlin was poorly organized and hardly the menacing giant the Nazi leader thought it should be.
So, in 1937, plans surfaced for "Welthauptstadt Germania," or World Capital Germania, an awe-inspiring metropolis inspired by ancient Roman architecture.
Rooted in a spirit of intimidation, the designs were about as grandiose as urban planning gets.
The centerpiece of the mega-city was the Volkshalle, or People's Hall, a colossal domed building that would have been the largest indoor structure in the world if completed.
At the halfway mark would have been a gigantic arch, similar to the Arch de Triomphe in Paris, but large enough to house the French arch underneath.

Nobody but the Germans themselves could have done a film like this - nobody else if they had tried would have come close to how good it is! Similar with Das Boot, Stalingrad to name two others. War films by the Germans from their perspective.

it's not that the germans are some genious but those films were made out of need the allies could portray them selfs as rambos cause they won the war they had the ethical advantage to portray them selfs as they wanted on the other hand if german film makers were trying to copy american cinema that would be a disaster for the country status in the post war and their personal career

It would have been extremely difficult, but potentially possible. You can ultimately find bedrock if you are prepared to excavate deep enough. Or go through a resource heavy and difficult process of trying to solidify the soil. The Schwerbelastungskörper foundations are already ten metres underground though. So it would need to be really quite excessive. I wouldn’t expect anything less…..

Watching this scene is when I can come the closest to having some "pity" for Hitler, and those around him, including Speer. As simple human drama we can relate to this as they, like all of us, have had "worthy" dreams, even "fantastical" dreams, and seen them come crashing down. As with us, their once "dreams" are somewhat of an embarrassment later as our failure is exposed. Unlike us, they murdered millions to achieve those dreams, and, what's worse, the murder was part of the "dream".

The ideas outlined in the “America First Caucus” document indicate just how far to the extreme right some Republican lawmakers stand - and feel comfortable openly expressing such opinions.
