This may be the best intro to this song I've ever heard. I think his '78 intros to Prove It All Night are probably his all time best. But this is a great one itself. The lyrics have evolved over the years, but this is classic Springsteen. Thanks for posting it!
@Lonewolf3165 I agree completely. The versions of "Backstreets, with the, "Sad Eyes/You Lied," interlude, and the Buddy Holly tribute, "Not fade Away/She's the One," are also pretty special stunning at many of those Darkness shows. I recommend Passaic (9/19/78), Winterland 12/15/78), and the Fox in Atlanta (9/30/78), all radio broadcasts, so the sound is superb.
Thanks for posting this great Bruce Springsteen classic. The sheet music for Roy Bittan's wonderful piano part on "Because the Night" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
Are you insane? He wrote the song and these are the exact lyrics. When he gave it to Patti Smith she changed two lines (and talk about gratious - he gave her co-authorship). He has written over 500 songs and released about 300. He played over 170 songs on his recent tour - about 130 of his own and 40 covers. NO ONE could remember all those lyrics. He uses a screen on the stage floor to ensure he gets the lyrics right and rarely makes a mistake. Period.
@Stringbender666 So you don't like his politics. That's fine. Making up or passing olong lies about him, without attribution, is not and you should be ashamed. Did you make that up or is it Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Sean Hannitty, or Bill O'Rielly's lie? I doubt is you know what, "McCarthyism" is. Look it up. (Simply type it into google.)"
Pure absolute beauty, a man and his group possesed.
This video deserves 7,000,000 views, not 7,000. Holy crap so amazing.
This is one of my favourite performances I've ever seen
And this people is why Bruce is a Legend.

I've listened to this song a million times by Patti but I didn't know what it meant till Bruce sang it. Amazing.
Magnificent.
25 seconds into it and already sounds fucking epic
