- We have just under 1/2 mile driveway made of asphalt, this requires constant upkeep, so we decided to get our own crack filler. We chose the RynoWorx RY10 crack filler for ongoing maintenance. This is not a review, just our experience. Watch our first use of this crack filling machine.

Pro tip make sure you empty any excess rubber you have in metal pails and you agitate frequently, what can happen if you don’t agitate enough is the material burns and gets rock hard on the bottom of the machine and can block the material valve. If you agitate and empty and clean machine after every use you’ll never have any problems.
Hi Redditor, excellent tip!! Do you have a good way of getting the material out of the bottom? I've tipped the machine to let it drain, but haven't found a good way to get all of the material out.
@@UpNorthNybergs I get my machine up high so that a pail can fit underneath the spout. While machine is still hot drain any excess into the pail. This material can be reused, just heat up pail with torch and the material will slide out in a big chunk, just make sure the pail you are draining into when you reheat the material will fit into your machine. Tilting the machine helps get the last little bit out. It’s almost impossible getting everything perfectly clean but as long as you get 99% out so you can see the opening of the spout you will be good. You may notice some material that has the consistency of clay that has coated the bottom after all the liquid is drained. This is kind of a pain but you have to get it out otherwise it’ll build up after every use and clog your machine. You need to have the correct tools to get this stuff out, Personally i use a crow bar to scrape the stuff lose and then have a small shovel that has it’s blade bent at a 90 degree angle so I can scoop the stuff on it and lift up out of the top opening. Everything will be very hot still so make sure you’re wearing gloves and long sleeves. The key to minimize the clean up is to keep your temperature from over heating and agitate frequently to prevent any hot spots and try and end the job with little material in machine.
Lots of big companies do not really care about cleaning, they just run the machine until the burnt material clogs up their machine and buy a new one. I am not rich or like waste so I try and keep my machine in good shape. I had to learn this the hard way, one of my machines just stopped working so I drained it and noticed there was a couple inches burnt material hard as rock blocking the spout, now I clean at end of day, usually only takes 5 minutes for me, and is worth it. Nothing is more frustrating when you go to use something and it doesn’t work.

@redditor7548 Is there any downside to allowing the left-over crack filler to remain inside the machine overnight and use the torch to heat up the outlet above the shoe? It’s a lot of extra work to prevent the outlet from getting clogged and if that’s the only goal, it seems like the torch route would work. I wouldn’t use the “torched material” for cracks, just put a pie pan under the shoe to catch and discard once cooled.
What crack filler are you using these days? Do you know if Craftco is a decent product?
@@harleyhoracio1 no it’s fine. You can leave over night and reheat and use material for next job. You do not have to clean out after every use, just make it a habit every once in a while that you finish a job with the melter empty so you can scrap off any charcoal build up on the bottom, like once or twice monthly depending on use. As long as your agitator can freely move once material is melted your machine is fine. I made the mistake with a machine that I’d heat up too hot which made the rubber turn to a hard charcoal and it built up to the point where It cemented over my agitator and I couldn’t move it and then eventually clogged my spout and then I ended up puncturing a hole in the machine trying to clean the hardened material out. This you do not want to happen.
Use a DF material that has a wide working temp range, this will make it easier for you to prevent over heating material which is what contributes to charcoaling. Crafto makes good rubber but a lot of the rubber is lower working temp range and works better for crack trailers that have easier temp control. The rubber I use is a DF called macseal from mcasphalt. It has a working temp range from 362-398.
at about the 8 min area : is that sand or dirt I see in the cracks?Probably should have hipressure air or water blown it all out. O well ck back if and when or if it starts lifting out of the cracks. May not if sand/dirt is deep enough
Hi Tommy, it is mostly sand and I tried my best to get as much out as possible. I inspected the driveway after this past winter and it held pretty well, better than I thought it would. I am definitely trying to get as much loose material out as possible. I do think I’ll have to spend a bit of time each spring reapplying in some areas. Cool! How long do the cracks stay closed before they re open and it has to be done again? When doing it again do you add more material or just torch the old stuff already there to reseal the crack.
We fill the cracks every other year, as they do crack again. We live in N lower Michigan, so we get the freeze/thaw cycle every year and that is murder on the driveway ;-)
I bought a 1/2 pallet of fill material, so I am set for a while. 1 brick of material actually fills quite a few cracks. Obviously, depending on crack size and depth. Thanks for watching!
Hi, did you use Deery crack sealer? Are you getting 2yrs out of it before it cracks again or did it mostly last and no repeat crack. I to have a long drive and was looking into this machine and trying to find the best crack sealer that would last. Regards, Tony
Hi Tony, I filled the cracks 2 years ago w/Deery and I’m starting to get major repeat cracks. I was expecting the filler to last longer, but our winters are tough. I’m resigned to filling cracks every year or every 2 years…I was hoping for better performance. Good luck!!
Thanks for getting back to me. I as well bought the ry10 pro, but I bought the Deery from a distributor on eBay and bought 7 blocks at $54 a piece instead of buying half a pallet and not being happy with the product, and would try seal masters ,one of there blocks called crack master supreme DF. Never ending battle with cracks….but a lot easier than getting on your hands and knees squeezing a gallon of cold pour that didn’t last a year. Take care,Tony

how do you clean up your machine after you have finished until next season??
My first year of cleaning consisted of me just heating up all the material and letting it just run out of the machine (in cracks). In between uses, I did the same thing and it worked fine, no clogs or issues. I'm not sure I am doing what is recommended, but getting the material out seemed like the only way to clean it effectively. Thanks for the question and for watching!
That box would flow a lot better if the output pipe had a small torch keeping it hot, similar to that Bernz-o-Matic torch you used, and since you already have a propane tank mounted, it would be an easy modification.
That’s a great point Mike! It seems to “plug” up a lot right at the output pipe. I may modify it this spring…thanks for sharing that suggestion!!
@@UpNorthNybergs IMO, make sure to use a small torch, the big ones for that would be wasteful. Maybe add a heat shield to contain the heat for longer too. Use a needle valve to adjust LP flow.

Are you going to seal coat your driveway yourself?
We haven't decided yet...I may have it seal coated by a professional then decide what other equipment I will need and the costs associated with doing it ourselves. Thanks for watching!
@@UpNorthNybergsI have a driveway that is almost a 1/4 mile long. If you decide to DIY sealer, I’d like to see your setup. Next spring, After crack filling, I was planning on getting a 275 gallon tote filled at a local Sealmaster store
Our Church is paying 3500.00 to have the lot sealed.
The contractors NEVER EVER ACTUALLY SEAL THE CRACKS.NEVER.
No body seems to realize that spraying a coat over the lot is not going to solve the grass and water going under the asphalt!

Would you buy this machine again?
Yes Pete, I would buy again. I use it only once or twice a year, so it doesn’t get beat up too bad. It seems to be a solidly built machine.
Never buy this machine.
Why do you need the professional stuff? Diy stuff works just fine..
My driveway is about 1/4 mile long, so I wanted something that would allow me to move a bit faster. Even so, it’s a bit of a pain! Thanks for watching!
These hot crack filling machines are junk. Don't waste your money on buying g this hot crack filling machine. Instead buy a hot box 30 gallon. Get a metal galvanized flower pour bucket. Remove the sprinkler part. Use this to pour the hot rubber into cracks. Have 2 people v squeegee the cracks. Much cleaner job. Plus it is way easier to move around pour the hot rubber than a heavy awkward machine.

I'm definitely leaning that way, thinking of doing it in the spring. I've never done it before, hopefully it goes well!
You have no idea how to use that machine! Drop and fill the shoe!
