Great update Will. So many of these companies are pretty poor with their communication and have pretty shoddy websites - especially when it comes to being mobile friendly (ie. contemporary). So, I find your updates save me a lot of time and frustration. This hobby needs an injection of younger people to keep it relevant so please keep it up. 3D printers are great and will form a niche for many detail parts. But at the moment there is a huge variation in the quality - even in the quality of items offered by small home-based businesses. It's the rising costs of this hobby that concern me greatly. With prices being so high the established manufacturers of rolling stock and locos really should lift their game in service and communication. There is only one company in my opinion that communicates well and presents well and is prompt......it also happens to be the biggest one and starts with 'A'. I value all of the small ones but I wish they would pay attention to the aspects of business that broadens the appeal - marketing, service, ease of use, communication, timeliness, mobile friendly etc. Otherwise they are just limiting themselves to their existing area of influence.

Great review video. I was against getting a 3D printer until I saw 3D printer wheelie bins on a layout. Then I was sold on the printer. Since then I've printed shipping containers, houses, industry, fences an fence posts, park benches, dwarf signals, water tanks and tank stands. I think the manufactures have the expertise and resources for superior products however a 3D printer pays for itself quickly and can certainly add unique items to your layout.

The Haskell NBHs will be nice, they're the obvious followup to the NA class. I'd be lost without my Elegoo Saturn 3D resin printer, it's the reason I'm able to model Tasmanian in HOn3.5

3D printing has saved me hundreds of dollars and the model can be replaced within a matter of hours at a very small cost. Also it has allowed me to have a fleet of engines as per proto type running all sorts of stock. All this at a fraction of the cost of retail. Three D printing allows many odd models to be made plus produce fleets of rolling stock with no delays or price increasers that we suffer from Chinese productions. Its the way to go.

I think 3D printing is fabulous, and have bought examples of it - so I see it having a place. How big a place in the hobby, though... I came across a comparison with another technology revolution, where you buy a machine for home use, teach yourself to use it, buy the raw materials, and can buy plans to use. What was that? Sewing! How many people use sewing machines? Well, they are fabulous if you have a special need (special size, cosplay, non mainstream fashion/vintage fashion) - or you like the challenge or want to save money. But for many people they are irrelevant. Suspect we will continue to see mainstream RTR, complemented by special interest, odd scales, or very limited numbers of the prototype being 3D printed, making for a much more interesting model scene.

Hello Steve! You're spot on there. There certainly is a gap in the market for RTR steam for a few states, I wonder if it because they're narrow gauge?
