That's the dumbest fucking argument a person can make. You're basically saying everything is good because if someone says something negative about anything than that person needs to be able to do better themselves.
You're essentially saying "You are not allowed to criticize something unless you make games yourself" which is a weird point to make considering that I do create my own games lol, and even weirder because it implies that the vast majority of people are never allowed to critique, complain, or disagree with something. Is there a game that you yourself don't like? Well nope, you're not allowed to critique that game now. Sorry, you must enjoy everything. Unless of course you make games, then you are given the ultimate pass for some reason.
Ill shine some clarity for all you older 90s babies the majority of people who play this shit are kids under 18 and the ones who gave good credit to this mastershit were either paid off or given a free copy. Its boring after 10- 20 hours freeroam is over rated and all games that go this route keep taking the control every motive-action- free choice- trope its so GTA that its mind numbing its annoying and it won't change because look who's teaching the kids to think outside the box... Why does it seem like you are the only person that sees the truth about the flaws of this game?!? What is going on, feel like I am in the twilight zone haha
LOL yea idk. It was a bit weird to me as well how I couldn't really find anyone else online who wasn't a massive fan of the game. I was like "Did everyone else play the same game?" Like I get why some people really like it, but I just didn't quite understand why the praise was never just "Oh it's really good" and instead it was all "It's a masterpiece, Game of the Generation!!" type of stuff lol
@@chrisrivera7530well you just said in another comment that it's a subjective thing so most of people like for subjective reasons, the issues you have with it are personal.
I hate this game, and the more undeserved praises it gets, the more I hate it. Such a huge missed opportunity. If I wanted another repetitive AC game I would have just went back and try to finish Odyssey (another trash). Way of the samurai games has more content than this trash. Sure, it's not a bad game but for what it is, it's nothing special.
Loved this game! It was actually the first game I ever got the platinum trophy for 100 % completion. I also liked your video very much and really appreciate you taking the time to expose the flaws of the game. Praise and critic shouldn’t oppose but rather complement each other. A thoughtful and structured analysis is always worthwhile. Subscribed.
There are three reasons why this game got so much praise: 1-It wasn’t made by Ubisoft. 2-It had no microtransactions. 3-It got released after controversial The Last of Us 2.
I really enjoyed tlou except towards the end it’s just a messed up writing. Ghost of Tsushima story is good but the fighting skills is really bad this game reminds me of assassins creed.
I agreed with the majority of your points. The game was boring as you said, the combat was tedious as were the side missions, far too much filler. The characters were mainly dull and had very little to no humour, lost of them have a single tone, the feel personalty free. I'm confused about the amount of praise and hype surrounding the game, I cannot understand it unless everyone has a massive hard on for samurai that I'm not aware of.
Yea I think that a lot of people just really like samurais lol. Based on some of the other comments and based on me watching other people react to this game, think it's clear that the addition of samurais is enough for some people. I've seen people who weren't fans of AC, start gassing this game up, and I'm like, the two are pretty damn similar, why is this one so much better? And I think it's because of the samurai lol
I’ve been wondering the same thing. Then a few days ago I realized that everyone just loves samurai shit. And this game filled that void. Last of us 2 deserved game of the year.
I’ve been wondering the same thing. Then a few days ago I realized that everyone just loves samurai shit. And this game filled that void. Last of us 2 deserved game of the year.
I think it being a Samurai game, though a poor disaster of a game, is where most of the praise stems from. Most, and myself, have wanted a good Samurai game for so long, but this was a huge disappointment for me. I wanted this game to be an incredible Samurai game, but it wasn't what I was hoping for.
I'm one week in, early in Act 2, and all I keep thinking is, 'why is this open world'? And I LOVE open world games. It doesn't help that I'm just coming off Witcher 3 and before that RDR2, but still, the world feels so empty. And you're right, it doesn't help that the story's kind of weak. If I have to hear Jin's uncle or Sensei tell me how my actions aren't the samurai way one more time while they sit at home waiting for me to save this island by my damn self, I'm joining the Mongols too.
Especially (like he said in the video) how the gameplay contradicts its own premise and story they wanted to tell. In fact I actually read an interview about it and i’m just “why would you do that? Why would you ever do that?” The dissonance is so blatantly obvious yet so few people seem to notice it somehow
Thank you so much. I was blown away by the visuals and atmosphere of the game initially(although disappointed by the historical accuracy and military scale) and then like you found how shallow and repetitive the game is around the same time but there are so few people who recognize these issues.
This was a game I tried to like until playing it the 2nd time, I could not bring myself to ignore what they did wrong with the game itself and the execution of its narrative premise. I don’t know if I trust this developer with anything they do anymore
whenever I hear someone say that Ghost has better stealth than tlou2, I look at them like "Uhhh... you're joking right?" Edit: Also the dogs in this game are lifeless af. I like tlou2 because even in gameplay, it makes me feel emotion. In this game, I just kill everything and then go somewhere else... and then the cycle continues.
It doesn't hold up in time. That's why it has the positive reviews. It's damn good for a certain amount of time then becomes a grind. Story isn't interesting enough to keep you going. Had to force myself to finish it and had to ignore all the side stuff. Wouldn't touch it again.
A snippet of my critique I posted on another site...for me this is what spoils the game. None of the wildlife in this game, horse included, feel organic and natural. In Red Dead I felt as though the animals were out there doing their own thing, regardless if I was there to witness them or not...like the bear that attacked me then ran off after I wounded it is still up in them there hills, waiting. And having more control options with the horse made what felt like a real (game) bond with the animal. Like that specific horse was unique to my game playing experience. In GOT the horse feels like nothing more than a way to get from point A to point B. No character, no sense of control (aside from 2 speeds and direction), no sense of bonding. Feels like a giant step backward from what was achieved with RDR2. And again, considering it is our main source of transportation and companionship throughout the game, GOT feels like a missed opportunity.
@Nina Neher This a thousands times. The game just feels empty, like there is no life to it compared to a game like RDR2, sure they had a bigger team and budget but you can tell sucker punch didn't even try. Heck you don't even have walking on stairs animation and the second I saw that in one of their early showcase, my hype started to die down, but the fanboys wouldn't have it, to them I was asking for too much LOL
@@OfficialDJTasawennateken The game is not hard you morron. Just spam parry and heavy attacks and everything dies and that is on the highest difficulty.
You perfectly expressed my every gripe with this game. Being a long time Sucker Punch fan myself, I was EXTREMELY disappointed having seen what they are capable of from their previous work. And it’s good to see everyone in this comment section having a place where they’re not alone. I thought I was the only one who didn’t like this game either so it feels good to know there’s others out there too who see what I saw.
I feel ya lol, I felt like I was going insane a lil bit too because everyone else was praising the game to high heaven lol. Glad you enjoyed the video!
The first Sucker Punch game I played was Infamous Second Son which had a great story with emotion and branching paths that change certain cutscenes (unlike Ghost of Tsushima where you can play honorable or dishonorable yet it does nothing). It's almost like Ghost is a downgrade from their previous games that came out 6 or more years ago
@@andrewholden1395 If you thought Second Son was "emotional and great" you haven't seen anything until you've played the first inFAMOUS. I'm not kidding when I say Second Son is the worst of the series.
@@PositivelyNegativeOfficial oh wow! I didn't have a PS3, but I bought second son just to try it out back in 2014. Ended up loving the performances in cutscenes, the gameplay was fun, and the missions were exciting. But I might have to look into the first game now. Thanks for the advice!
I completely agree on the ludonarrative dissonance part. I remember during one of norios side quest, Jin kept telling him “I cant fight the mongols alone, come with me!” And I was just thinking “yeah you can lmao”
I’m actually genuinely shocked that not more people are calling out this game’s dissonance, given how popular the topic is This game also kind of made me give up on suckerpunch
@@Blue-Apple-fc9eo about not having nearly enough people calling out the game’s comedically obvious ludonarrative dissonance, giving up on the developer or both?

I went into this game with some expectations, but I got very bored and frustrated, it was everything I don´t like in videogames, and you said it perfectly man. Kinda felt alone on this one, but this pretty much sums up what I think of the game. Great video.
The funniest thing to me is when people were praising the game for letting you run during trailing missions instead of criticizing the game for even having trailing missions
I hated the unskippable cut scenes my first play-through, but I'm on my second right now and I use them as nice, reflective moments to smoke more weed.
Totally agree! Also, the Kurosawa fawning is an insult to Kurosawa’s direction. It’s not even an aesthetic homage as the super wide cut scenes feel more like Altman but without his humor and purpose. Very mediocre game IMO
Yea for a game that touted it's Kurosawa influence and special mode, it's surprisingly lacking most things that made his films special lol. I was a bit shocked that the whole kurosawa mode was just black and white with japanese voice acting and shitty sound mixing. Like thats all you took away from his films? The fact that they were old and in Japanese?
@Zack Smith what does that even mean? What games arent "true to their premise"? How does that in any way show how it's not just an extremely shallow attempt at making something like Kurosawa?
@Zack Smith I see you still can't type correctly. Also I am 100% certain you have never seen a Kurosawa film if you think this is a "True rendition of a Kurosawa classic". This is a shamefully shallow attempt at Kurosawa
@Zack Smith If you've actually seen his work, then it is fucking embarrassing that you think GOT is a "True rendition" of it. It means your only take away must have been "Ooh Cool Samurai!" Or "Ooh black and white Japanese film!" For the many reasons I discussed in the video, there is nothing this game does to honor his style other than by making them black and white with Japanese dialogue and exaggerated wind. Also 7 Ronin is not a fucking Kurosawa film and I seriously hope you meant 7 samuari and not that awful Keanu Reeves movie
Great what the story of this game suck I don’t understand any shit they were saying it’s was better than tlou2 but not once you get the Sakai armor you done with this game bruh you just use 2 bottom game ain’t not gore the open world is empty the most empty one I ever play even tlou2 had better exploration than this overrated game
I'm only 8 minutes in and I already want to shake your hand. I have no idea why no one else is saying this about the game, lol. I would literally have to force myself into situations to make it harder for myself to feel the challenge. How no one else is talking about this is just bizarre. People are definitely caught up in the graphics and the fact that there are Samurai involved. Definitely an enjoyable game, but Game of year does not come to mind lol.
If those bullshit leaks didn’t exist; it would still be divisive but more people probably would’ve really looked at this and (since ludonarrative dissonance is such a popular topic of criticism) cried out: No, this is a line too far
You’re totally right, the ludonarrative dissonance not only implies here, I honestly believe this game took it to a whole new level to the point of being unacceptable and I’m honestly shocked that not more people are noticing it and neither does the director. Honestly, at this point: I’m in no way saying Nate Fox (the director) is a bad guy by any means, he needs to stop directing
It was difficult for me to admit at first, but I had to come to the conclusion that Ghost of Tsushima just isn't what I'd hoped it be. Ordinarily, this would be fine. I tend to set high expectations, so I've learned to temper them once all is said and done. But even after setting the bar extremely low for GOT, I came away disappointed. Every element of this game (aside from the UI and environmental design) seemed so haphazardly cobbled together, I was shocked that this was the same studio that crafted the Infamous and Sly Cooper franchises. I was ready to see the XDEV or San Diego Studios logo to pop up during the credits, thinking that this title had to have been outsourced. I can't reiterate how disappointed I was. Through sheer will, I trudged past the credits to get the platinum trophy, and now that I've ended my time with GOT, I can assuredly say that this is not the overwhelmingly captivating samurai epic gamers have been waiting for. It is itself a ghost, or more aptly, a Frankenstein's monster of modern open-world mainstays. And much like Frankenstein's monster, it does a poor imitation of its influences.
I feel you man. I was really looking forward to this game as well and I was hoping that even if the story ended up being weak, the combat would keep my interest. Unfortunately I ended up disliking both of those aspects and I was a bit shocked at how similar this game was to every other open world game I've played. Other than the wind being a cool guiding mechanic, I seriously can't name a single aspect of the game that hasn't been done wayyyy better, even within the confines of games that follow the "ubisoft open world formula". The lack of variety was pretty shocking to me, and I couldn't believe just how many missions/quests ended up being a bandit camp, footprint tracker, or god damn trailing mission. What was even more shocking however, is just how long it goes on for, without switching up anything. It's like a 30 hour game at minimum, and I genuinely felt like 15 of those hours could have just been completely axed because they added pretty much nothing to the experience that we hadn't already seen multiple times. As I said in the video, I really think this should have been shorter and linear, so they can focus on the good and really fine tune the pacing and structure, and maybe even give the game another pass through for polish, because those cut-scenes could definitely use it. You said it best though, it's like a Frankenstein's monster of tons of other games (Assasin's creed, Sekiro, Uncharted, Nioh, and Farcry to name a few) and it does a poor job imitating them.
@@chrisrivera7530 Hey are we twins or something? I couldn't have said it any better. I don't know how you did it, but once the reality dawned on me and saw how shallow the game truly is, I couldn't even bring myself to continue playing. I just couldn't unseen it to the point I just uninstalled it and never looked back.
For a time, I’d say it’s better than second son, but now I’m not sure… Actually, I’m gonna say worse. At least second son and first light had better facial animations and cutscenes and the side missions, as un fun as they were, at least were fewer This game kind of killed suckerpunch
this game has beautiful visuals, but the story and cutscenes are so fucking weak. I enjoyed the combat but the story and characters were nothing. Anyone who says this game was robbed by tlou 2 for the goty award is delusional. This game wants to be red dead so badly, but has a convoluted identity. With that being said, it’s a decent game overall but overrated. 5.5/10
I was shocked by the laziness of the cutscenes, even with the last shot of Jin walking away. It’s like they didn’t even try And I think the worst part about this game is that they took such a good idea on paper and went out of their way to botch it
This review nails it, you spoke my mind. Everyone thinks this is incredible, but I was bored by hour 10 just like you lol, thanks for being that voice!
I played 3 hours and stopped. The combat was just too slow and boring to me and the camera movement frustrated the hell out of me and ruins the combat.
So, I bought TLOU2 and GoT at the same time. I thought one was going to be terrible and the other one really great. Just mixed them up. I wouldn't say that that's true because Tsushima is not terrible at all. I really loved in the first 15 hours but I can't get myself to keep playing. Once you figure out the combat, it's just extremely repetitive. Like you, I'm not sure on what I'm missing out on in this game that everyone loves so much
I came here searching for this video because I couldn't understand how the game received so much praise after finishing it. After watching it, I've got to say that we have the same exact opinion on GoT, I really felt the way you did while playing it. Good job in making this amazing analysis!
@@Jok3rSmilee Super late responding to this, But I think Metro Exodus and Elden Ring are the best open world games our right now. BOTW is really good too but it has more issues than the two of those IMO. But either way all 3 games dont follow any sort of traditional open world structure like nearly every other cookie cutter AAA game open world. No endless checklists of boring side quests. No infinite copy and pasted "activities". No maps markers galore. And Metro/Elden Ring/BOTW hold the ability to excite/surprise you much longer than any other AAA open world in the past decade

I was really looking forward to this one but was left very unimpressed. Although the game can be very beautiful sometimes, it can also be very ugly. What are these textures?
Playing it a 2nd time, it has its good moments but you’re totally right about the gameplay and story contradicting each other, I read an interview regarding the gameplay saying how you can play as honorably or as dirty as often as you want, which was immediately an eyebrow raiser and I’m shocked that nobody else batted an eye. And people accuse uncharted of this exact thing, but nothing in any of those games ever implied Nate *never* fired a gun, especially when it came to the 4th game when Rafe said “these guys don’t kill in cold blood and people thought that was a contradiction but in actuality, they either don’t seem to know what “in cold blood” even means or can’t tell the difference between what he’s been doing in those games and cold blooded killing
You basically got it. The one good thing about the combat is that there is a unique flourish animation for each of Jin's attacks when it hits the killing blow. Other than that, it's just so floaty and jank that it really doesn't feel good to watch mongols fly five meters across the ground taking a swipe while standing still. Those dumbass cutscenes you have every single time you talk to/free a peasant really get irritating an hour or so in, as well as the fact that you need to interact with tracks rather than just follow them naturally. There's just so many pointless halts and holdups bogging you down when they should be making this ninja game as smooth and seamless as possible. You'd think they would have taken an obvious page from a game that came out five years ago and let you move past each bit of dialogue with the push of a button like Witcher 3, but for all their copying from Ubisoft's playbook I guess that sort of fell to the wayside. Only real way I can enjoy it is to try and avoid combat as much as possible and just larp as a ninja batman. The grappling hook is probably the best one I've ever used in a game as far as feel goes. Unfortunately there really isn't anything interesting about following foxes or holding the left stick toward gray ledges. There's no challenge or anything interesting or thought provoking, it's just busywork.
It’s extremely disappointing because this is probably the best looking game I’ve ever played. The presentation is fantastic and some of the environements genuinely made me emotional when first seeing them. But that doesn’t matter if the gameplay and exploration sucks, and sadly that’s the case.
The environments in GOT are damn good looking, definitely some of the best visuals from 2020. IMO tho, I'd say The Last of Us 2 and Metro Exodus would be my picks for best looking games (they're also just great games in general lol) I'd definitely recommend checking those out if you havent already

Of course man! Glad I could help. And yea I feel you. That's my issue with a lot of streamers that play big games, they often tend to rush through it and not pay attention to shit, so when a game requires attention, they like it less/don't understand it, and then when a game is super basic and simple, they tend to like it more because they can still comprehend it without paying an ounce of attention.
They should've add more choices in the story, especially when Jin was supposedly has to choose between being shimura's son or continue being the ghost. As you said the idea was good and has potentials but the delivery is honestly felt too artificial. I've never play any open world games before so I don't really know what to expect, all I can say is that I was interested because this game Is a samurai fighting game.
This is one of my favorite games of all time, but I do agree with all your points after thinking with an open mind. Great analysis! Keep up the good work you are killing it!

@@dontreply8982 let that man enjoy what he likes. At least he can listen to some criticism and respect it. I wish I enjoyed the game as much as him but I just didn't 😕
About exploration: All the places that did look interesting were blocked off anyway lol. When I saw the waterfalls of castle shimura, I wanted to see if there is a trophy from jumping from them. -> inaccessible. There is also absolutely nothing you can find in terms of secrets or easter eggs that aren't directly connected to a mission. No hidden cave or joke(except on Iki island), no treasures behind waterfalls, no secret event like spying on two people fucking in a house like in RDR2 that is just so random and funny because it made the world alive. The game is overall groundbreaking and a masterpiece......if it were released in 2009 on PS3. Because it matches the graphics and textures and gameplay from games of this era. The game is directly on par with Assassin's Creed III. Great, beautiful, good combat, dated. I also practically never used the horse unless forced to. It never made any sense because the place is intraversible and you get attacked constantly and knocked off your horse. Add to it that the horse didn't look like a horse at all with the fucked up rear legs and the geometric shapes taken straight out of a PS3 game, that I felt zero connection to it or that it even was "real". I didn't care when it got killed. Compare that to RDR2 where I cringe and cry everytime I hear mine or a random NPC horse cry out in pain because it got shot or fell or died.
Everyone keep yapping about how detail the game is... but somehow not detailed enough because after liberating a village or farm house and you see the peasant returning, but there is still a big pile of dead bodies being burned while the peasant go their daily life.... Another is the way how the character will keep closing the door every single time a guy walk inside the house, open, go in, then close, and suddenly the guy that followed Sakai would open, go in and close. A bit lack of small detail.
My experience was quite similar. I played on hard mode and for the first couple hours it was super hard. I got killed in like 3 hits the enemies attacked super fast making it really hard to parry and the leaders felt invincible. Then almost over night it got trivial. I think it was around the time I unlocked the wind stance. I realized that I not longer need to carefully parry attacks and can instead keep my distance while charging my flurry of blows to kill any enemy in one or two combos. Then I upgraded my swords and it got even easier. Got some good armor. Even easier. I don’t even use stealth much cause of how fast I can run up to dudes and cut them to ribbons
Honestly, Sucker Punch could have done something similar with GoT as they did with Infamous. If infamous has the Good/Evil route, then Ghost of Tsushima could have had Ninja/Samurai route. The Ninja route would be the story that is presented in the actual game and the Samurai route would have different cutscenes and story line. For example: In the Samurai Route, your combat skills are unmatched but the Mongols use dirty tricks that force you to abandon the Bushido code. If you're in the Ninja route, then Mongols try to hunt to down to fight face to face, assuming Jin's combat skills are trash. This could have been challenging for the players who want to stick to the code of Bushido. But as said before, this game is half baked.
If it were to have that, I feel like if you go for the Samurai route, the game should end sooner, ends on a hopeless note and the monguls won. But taking the ghost route would of course have you beat the monguls but potentially put Jin in a dark place, mentally. But NOPE! No offense to the director but I genuinely believe he needs to step down as director, he has no idea what he’s doing anymore
@@ryanhowe5753 True, who ever directed this wasn't that good in his job. BTW, I don't think the game should end sooner if you go on the Samurai Route. This game should be insanely difficult to make you wanna throw away the Bushido code. Giving the player the chance to combat Mongols in the traditional way should not be punishing, but rather challenging. This could enforce the message of the story (i.e. there's no such thing as cheating or honor in wars) and can provide an extra challenge for those who want to master the Samurai moveset.
I fundamentally disagree, strongly. If the monguls are meant to be this overwhelming force who know exactly what they’re doing and how the samurai operate, you should barely just deal with 3, maybe 4 at most in a single fight, and still show why the ghost is needed. Regardless, how it was executed, though (this might come across as hyperbolic) this feels like suckerpunch jumping the shark
this game is made for casual players thats why this game is so borderline easy and repetetiv so that some one with no clue of gaming or any skill can beat it and have fun ...and that is the problem mit modern gaming
I'll be honest I searched for a video like this to confirm whether I'm crazy or not but yes, glad you agree! This game was so dull. I've just gotten to the 2nd half of the island and I think I'm going to give up. It's such a chore to play. I'm not saying this to slight anyone who loves the game, but I'm genuinely shocked to see how positive everyone is/was about it.
I was in such shock by what I was experiencing, I had to lie to myself, saying “better than second son” but I don’t really think that’s true. Especially after playing it a 2nd time. I think this could have been an incredible game. The execution is however atrocious. Yeah, I think this is Suckerpunch’s worst game, I really don’t like it
What especially made me angry about this game is how it establishes its internal logic based on the context of the story, while simultaneously keeps breaking it
@Ryan Howe the biggest issue isn't really the repetition as many games can't avoid it since they need a loop to define the game. It's the fact that during and after Act 1, the entire game becomes meaningless because you already have every stance unlocked, every ghost weapon, tanto fully upgraded, pretty much all the necessary skills, and even the best armours to carry you through the whole game. Like yeah, my katana has one remaining upgrade slot, but why should i care fully upgrading it when it's effective enough and the game's too easy.
I think it’s especially bad when it goes out of its way to not commit to its own story context while it simultaneously hellbent thinks it is absolutely committed to it, makes it look…is it going too far to call it hypocritical or pretentious?
@Ryan Howe no, it's they that went too far, probably because an unfortunate number of players are too uninvested to actually analyze the plot and figure out if it actually set out to succeed its narrative premise. They relied on that, which is why the game is more marketed and praised as a Samurai power fantasy game, which was enough for many people to accept its poor narrative and easy gameplay
I think what we love about this game is that it allows us to live our samurai/pseudo ninja fantasies, but as someone who's enjoying this game, I agree with all your critique. The combat feels like they tried to make it "realistically quick", but because all the enemies are repeatative it falls flat and we can mow through camps after 10 hours in. I think if they had just added varients for different enemies like the ones with armor should have different fighting stances and more health than the armorless grunts, the camp minibosses should have at least two different stances to counter you and the main bosses should have all four countering stances and feel like mini-seikiro bosses because I think what they meant the stances to be is a rock-paper-scissors formula, but what they turned out to be were just "oh you giant man with spear? haha moon stance go brrrr". I think what takes me out of the game the most are the platforming, stealth and whenever I'm forced to climb lol. They fix some mistakes I've been having with the spider-man iron hook, but still not my favorite game to play stealthy despite this being the narrative they sold. All in all, I enjoy it as my samurai power fantasy and if I need a challenge, I fuck up a standoff and see what happens lol or just play seikiro.
Yea I can definitely see why people are drawn to it for the samurai aspect, as I know a ton of people have been asking for a samurai Assasins creed/samurai game in general for a while now. That initial samurai flash was fun for me too, but I think the initial appeal of something like that drops much faster for me and then I always start to look for more substance to hold my interest. As for your points about the enemies, I definitely agree that they needed more variety. I briefly touched on it in the video, but looking back, I definitely should have gone into a bit more detail about that. By the end of the game, the enemies all feel the same and aside from the big guys having unblockable attacks, everyone else can be parried, so they essentially are the same lol. I think more enemies, or more complex skills for the enemies would definitely have helped, and if they wanted to use the whole stance feature, they should have made it much more integral to how the player is supposed to play. Because as it stands now, you either just change stance and button mash, or you pretty much just ignore it. I actually think you can probably beat the game without ever switching stances after the first few hours, as long as you have a bow and some special attacks unlocked lol. They also kinda took a lot of aspects from other games and tried to combine them, but didn't do a great job. They grabbed the parrying from Sekiro except it's way easier here. They got the stances from Nioh but they aren't nearly as important to the combat. They got the stealth from Assasins creed, except your traversal is way more limited in GOT than it is in those games. They took the open world design from literally every Ubisoft game. They took the more hack and slash melee combat from Shadow of Mordor, but made it too simple. And they got the boring climbing from uncharted, except they added way more of it for some reason lol. And to respond to your other comment about my reviewing aging well, it's certainly not lost on me how the internet's view of TLOU2, has probably affected the internet's view towards this game. A lot of people were just looking for a simple, standard, escapist video game after TLOU2, and this is the first big one that came out. I mean this comment section literally has an example of that, with someone crying about TLOU2 in the comments, despite this video having nothing to do with that game 😂. I'm hoping people can stop with the sensationalism of it all and actually have some meaningful discussions about both games, but who knows with the internet lol. Anyway, thanks for commenting man! I appreciate you taking the time to make a thought-out response to the video!
Halfway through this game I was loving it. Buuuuut… I almost immediately got bored and struggled progressing in the story. So many of the missions were so boring.
I enjoyed the game because the story of the samurai always interested and getting to play as one is fun also it feels like a assassin's creed game and I like assassin's creed
How this game executes its ludonarrative is unforgivable to me And since that ludonarrative dissonance is such a popular topic, this should’ve been the rallying cry of “No, this is a line too far” it’s insane to me that there are people who don’t see it I think suckerpunch has jumped the shark beyond repair
Dude. 💯 agree. It’s a beautiful game with no soul. I feel like I’m going mission to Mission and I don’t really care about any of it. Writing haikus. Having an old woman with Alzheimer’s lead me around for a half hour. Are they really making me do that? It is a gorgeous game and it’s not without its moments for sure. But overall you hit it on the head.
Something that I hate about the story is how, like you said, the whole point throught it is that Jin is dropping his moral code, leaving his honor behind and embracing the Ghost... Yet you can choose to remaing honorable at the end...and the game makes little to no effort to also display that in the story. Doesn't seem like you have 2 paths from the start, you have just one, but at the end you can make a choice that makes no sense with the story and Jin.
Thank you, sir. You pretty much summed up my feelings about this game to a tee. I'm shocked and appalled that the game has a 9.3 user score on Metacritic. If this game was made by Ubisoft I'm positive it would be a 3. Sad times when you can't even trust the community to fairly rate games, let alone the professional reviewers.
Yup. I'm also near certain if this game came out before The Last of Us 2, the review scores (at least from users) would be different. Definitely still too high, but more like an 8-8.5 instead of a 9.3
This is what i find funny, this game is EXACTLY what Ubisoft does, it has their same open world formula: Go here liberate this outpost, reveal the map, now do this side quest where you have to help someone in trouble. Fine. Now repeat this 60 times. Gain XP to invest into Skill Trees, now collect materials to upgrade your weapons and armors. This game is pure Ubisoft formula but somehow when it's Ubisoft doing it, it's bad
@@alquimista4596 not only that, Ubisoft executes the formula better. In the AC games the cities and towns are much more interesting and varied, the skill tree is much more in depth, and the side activities and diversions are a lot more fun. I played Valhalla and enjoyed it 10x more than this game.
@@thedopeson though ghost of tsushima is developed by a small game developer like sucker punch. Its combat mechanics is 100x better than any ac series except unity. Stealth, bow kill and character animation of ghost tsushima worst. On the other hand ac valhallas landscape look like it made out from plastic
I loved the game but that cause I'm a samurai nerd. but every single critisim you made is absolutly fair I feel like if it had been a tight linear story that only lasted the 10 or so hours, it might have been better.
Plus the game is so easy on hard, that I completely stopped using Jin other attacks just so I could make the game a bit more challenging, if I need to handicap my experience in order to have fun, that's a huge red flag.
One of the worst examples of repetition was how often they spammed running into two Mongols fighting a bear. I would be running on foot and could see it happen twice in two different places in under 60 seconds.
What's funny is that if you're at a certain distance, the two mongols and the bear will just stand there doing nothing until you come closer. It further adds to the superficiality and meaningless repetition from the game.
It's funny. GOT fanboys who praise the story while also boiling TLOU2's story down to "revenge bad," fail to realize that when you boil GOT's plot, it's simply another "save the city" story we've seen just about a million times. By their logic, GOT has a horrible story as well.
umm, how is it a simple "save the city" story? Remember, this game takes place in the first Mongol invasion of Japan and Jin is still going to be hunted (at least for the ending where you spare uncle Shimura) for tarnishing the Samurai code While yes, the story revolves around saving Tsushima island, Jin also deals with the conflict of being a honorable samurai until he realizes fighting dirty is the only way to repel the Mongols
@@Hugulubugulu When you boil down this game's main plot, it's literally about Jin saving the city. My point was that it's dumb to oversimplify stories, because you can make any story seem bland or dumb in doing so. And I notice a lot of these Ghost of Tsushima fanboys doing exactly that, oversimplifying stories told in God of War and Last of Us Part II just to hype it up when they don't realize that by following that set of logic, that GOT has a simple uninspired story as well.
I will respectfully disagree with you on the story being bland. Sure it’s simplistic but it’s told incredibly well. I personally love the story. On the topic of the last of us 2 I agree with you on people just calling it “revenge bad”, whilst I personally didn’t like the story of that game, the game isn’t simply revenge bad. It’s themes are more towards forgiveness and acceptance and whilst I personally didn’t like the way it was told, I understand why people do like it. Similarly I do get some of ghosts problems with narrative but I still had a fantastic time with it.
Well GOT has side tales last time I checked TLOU2 didn't but yea the story is kinds bad when boiled down a lot but it doesn't take a lot of boiling for TLOU2 story to become "revenge bad"
I give it 7/10 , really repetitive, no story choices are branching paths , I had high hopes , they said it’s BOTW which is total bullshit it’s more like GTA w a samurai skin
Thank you! Finally someone who sees the flaws of this game. I've been into the game for 20 hours on the end of the ACT 2 and I completely agree with all the points. I really don't see why this game won GOTY awards and even made the list. If I didn't bought this game on discount (biggest mistake ever), I would not even bothering finishing it. This game is unenjoyable and one of the worst games of this genres. Typical example of a game where AAA company invests tons of money just to show-off and wins majority of idiots who get blown away by it.
When I reached to the big battle later on in act 2, I could not believe they did that! I was genuinely shocked! After that point, I think the developer has jumped the shark beyond repair
Chris Rivera should also have mentioned the historical inaccuracies in GoT, yes I know this isn't a historical documentary game. But still: - Katana wasn't even "invented" in the game's year, 1274. The swords during that time in Japan were tachi, the tachi was longer and curvier than a regular katana. By the time of Mongol invasions, tachi blades were having a hard time penetrating Mongolian armor because it was too brittle or not sharp enough. In response, the katana was created because of that, an upgrade of tachi. (Although in Japanese dub, they called swords as "tachi") - Hwacha wasn't even a Mongolian weapon, that rocket launcher was created in Goryeo (Korea) in the late 16th century. The hwacha was a response when Japan invaded Korea, making it IRONIC to use in the game! - Haiku wasn't a thing yet in the 13th century in Japan, it started in the 17th century. - Bushido (the samurai code) was properly developed and structured in the Edo period. Also, the game's themes of "samurai fights with pure honor" is just romanticization of Hollywood or Kurosawa fiction. In fact, a samurai wasn't only a warrior but a strategist too. They would applaud you for innovative or unconventional tactics. So in reality, Shimura would be intrigued and proud from his nephew that he managed to defeat the Mongols by using guirella warfare - Furthermore, when Shimura arrests Jin by the Shogun due to his "dishonorable acts", it's all bullsh1t. What's this the Jedi Order? No, the Shogun wouldn't do something weird like that. - Some of the armor design seems to be anachronistic, Samurai Clan Armor is reminiscent of the armor worn by samurai in the Sengoku period, while the Sakai Clan Armor is a scaled armor that was mainly used for ceremonial purposes and was first seen around 16-17th centuries. - There are no Mongolian cavalries here or even horseback archers, which is weird that was what their army was known for. Sure there are Mongols in horses in GoT, but when they see Jin, those guys immediately dismount their horses to fight on foot? - Lack of samurai archers, only Ishikawa Sensei and Jin. And I find it disappointing too, since a samurai was originally an archer on horseback, and they also used naginata (glaive) and yari (spear). Their swords were just for secondary purposes. In the part of the game's opening of Jin riding with other samurai on Komoda beach, I kept sighing and hitting my head because I didn't see any archers on horseback! - I'm pretty sure there were still a lot of samurai after the battle at Komoda Beach - I'm not sure about this but... I believed trousers weren't still invented, there were some civilians in GoT wearing slim pants, and the only proper legwear at that time was hakama (the baggy pants).
I just went on Reddit and said all of this. They rushed to defend it and called it a fucking masterpiece. It's shit. A generic, empty, repetitive, boring waste of time.
At least the DLC gave some variety like being able to trample Mongols with your horse at the cost of your resolve and adding some hidden quests that aren't even marked with a question mark. The best part about Iki is the ability to pet animals at sanctuaries, sure it's just animations but it's something nice, I think they could improve on everything in the sequel. There's even more variety than just tracking someone in the few side missions there were. Also, now with the game being past version 2.0 they've listened to players and improved some stuff and that's really telling of the kind of developer sucker punch is. I have to add that the story really picks up in act 3 when the poison you use on the Mongols in castle Shimura then gets stolen by the Mongols in that area and they start poisoning civilians.
Bloody fascinating! It's so captivating absorbing different personal feelings about video games. Especially ones that the internet condemns or praises. As for the video itself another superb effort Chris! Excited to see you keep creating and keep growing!
Thanks! And yea this has been a crazy time for the internet to condemn and praise certain games, and it certainly isn't lost on me how I managed to be on the opposite side of the internet for both TLOU2 and GOT lol. I promise that was not intentional, but it just ended up being that way 😂🤷. Thanks again for the support man!
Well, "personal feelings" is the last thing I want to know "about video games". Is like personal feelings about food. We always come to these situations where the all gameplay mechanics' extent of L1 and Square you learn in the first hour of a game are "fun" - such as Chris "feelings" about the LoF 2 - but, game mechanics that can take 10 hours to learn (by Chris' own admission) are "boring" and "button mashing fantasy". And don't even start me on the "ludo narrative dissonance" discourse about GoT... Because LoU 2 is even worse and Chris never mentioned it. Feelings are overrated.
Well, considering that all reviews or analysis videos revolve around someone's subjective opinion about something, it seems pretty weird for you watch reviews of things if your take away is only gonna be "feelings are overrated" when someone says something you disagree with. Speaking on TLOU2, that is a different type of game, so a 1 to 1 comparison of mechanics is pretty pointless. If you want to compare it to something similar, let's pick one of the Middle Earth games. In those, you have signficantly more depth to the combat. There are enemy weaknesses, special abilities, summoning companions, different armor sets, and the whole concept of taking over your enemies and getting them to fight for you. In ghost of Tsushima, it really is just parrying and pressing triangle the whole game. It's fucking bland, and basic, and mind-numbingly repetitive. And even in games like Spider-man, which I also find a bit repetitive and easy, that game at least has me press buttons other than triangle. And the 10 hour mark is pretty generous tbh. I "learned" it within the first few hours, and then mastered it shortly after when it all clicked for how simple it was. IDK about you, but pressing triangle a million times is not something I find fun over the course of 40 hours. As for the Ludo narrative dissonance, it is not worse in TLOU2, because it doesn't exist in TLOU2. There is a comment thread down below going over exactly that, so I don't feel like explaining it here. I know you saw the thread, because I just saw you commented in it lol.
Couldn't agree more. The first ten hours of this were great but then it just quickly falls apart once the novelty of the setting wears off and you realise you're just repeating the same actions over and over again with very little reward. I think it's the curse of the 'open world' formula as I had the same problem with Horizon Zero Dawn and Spiderman. It's become a tired trope now that needs completely overhauling.
Yep. Most open world games just aren't as exciting to me anymore either. Some I think can get by on the spectacle of the world and sense of freedom even though they have other issues (BOTW) but I think the best kind of open world games are titles like God of War and Metro Exodus. Both are linear games with semi-open world sections. They give you a wider area to explore and do side stuff but they continue forward in a well structured fashion, making sure they are always switching it up and keeping the pacing tight. Would highly recommend both if you haven't already played them lol.

After playing game for few hours, I feel bad about the game and start looking for some bad review on youtube and found this... and it is very helpfull to know, I am not alone who think Ghost of Tsushima is very blank mediocore game.
5:48 OH MY GOD, THANK YOU! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who sees it! Not only does the ludonarrative dissonance apply in this game, I actually believe this one went too far. And I’m shocked that hardly anyone is taking note of it, since how popular the topic is, while simultaneously falsely accuse other games like uncharted or TLOU2 that don’t actually have it. I don’t understand this world
It's slightly funny how the like to dislike ratio is "bad" but most of the actual comments agree with you. I haven't enough play time to think much about it but I doubt any game is perfect anyways
I got bored during the second act. Because there was absolutely no reason to do anything. And the stupidest part is not having diffrent weapons with their own stats. It was just cosmetic crap
Forgot there were so many people picking this game apart. Yeah, it's just not very good. The stealth is terrible, the combat is shallow, none of the activities in the world are worth doing, the mission design never evolves throughout the entire game, the constant cutscenes are unbearable. It's 3 years late to the open world party, and a big disappointment after how simple and uninterrupted the Infamous games were.
@@V_For_Vigilante Lol you're right. I hate this wasn't a good game. I wanted to like it because it was a Samurai game, but it wasn't at all what I expected. I wanted something more like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice combat and gameplay.
I agree with so many of the points made in this video, the praise this game gets baffles me, I thought it was alright but nothing special but to hear people talk about it you’d think it was game of the decade.
You’ve pointed a lot out that I never noticed through my many hours of gameplay in the game and really opened my eyes to the flaws. I only started to notice how repetitive the gameplay got after the Iki island dlc came out. In my opinion I think that the story is great but the main issue is the gameplay doesn’t exactly support the story which weakens it quite a lot. I think that if they make a sequel they should: 1) Make it so that stealth is more rewarding and not forced 2) make the enemy AI smarter and more difficult (this complements the first point) 3)Make the smaller side quests more interesting and unique 4)Try to make the NPC’s feel more real and unique rather than robots with the exact same appearance and voice actors 5)Make trailing missions illegal I enjoyed the story because I loved how the identity of “the ghost” started to affect jin. I liked how the residence of Tsushima started to fear jin and idolize him more as you killed more mongles and advanced further through the story. I also enjoyed the story missions where the Allies you made would help and assist you in the e.g. taking over a temple or fort (maybe more so because I would always finish their side quests before I did the main mission). I also liked that they weren’t afraid to kill off certain characters which made you (well me personally) hate the Mongoles and also Samurai even more e.g. when your horse got killed and when taka dies. I got the platinum trophy in it (not 100% it because I didn’t play the online) and still love this game though, because personally I love the period in time where it takes place, the gorgeous world and overall feeling like a badass in the game. But overall I think you made a great video and I agree with most of the points you’ve made.
Seeing how fans of ghost of tshusima are still haunted by tlou2 and goty 2020 is truly funny. Every youtube and tiktok video, vast majority of the comments are fans of this game saying, "true goty 2020", "how did this masterpiece lost to tlou2", "greatest Sony exclusive oat". Rather than talking bout the game itself, they just cannot help themselves bring tlou2, lmao. Jesus 🤣🤣🤣 this game would have been on a limbo zone had tlou2 been released on later time or nowhere near it.

I wanted to like this game but the repetition is exhausting. When I finally reach Act 2 and then the general wasn't there I just dropped it. Went back to play Seiko again.
Its an honest review, and i absolutely agree with all the points you made. I am a big fan of the game and currently am into 60 hours just because I want that platinum trophy and am very close to it. But to be honest, i still love the whole environment and escapism this game provides me. I love the feudal Japan /Samurai, combat themes, and i can always cycle amongst different games when things get too repetitive. GOT is a game i can always come back to and play a little bit just to have a casual, relaxing gaming session after playing something hard. I think GOT is still a good buy, even though all you said was on point.
i actually really like this video, i maybe don't agree with everything but you make some good points about the power fantasy argument & depth of the game's systems. i know this is 3 years late but with the pc port coming out i wanted to check out content for ghost and this was a good watch.
Reminds me a bit on the Cyberpunk game.. you make choices that don't mean anything and you do repetitive missions in order to find stuff that you don't want or need. What am I going to do with my 37th headband?
has anyone noticed how the character doesn’t actually walk on the ground and the feet phase through and also the footprints occur before your character steps on the ground? i find them annoying as hell
Thank you for voicing your opinion! I was disappointed in this game and I thought I was alone. Hating on this game will get you a lot of hate but it needs to be said
I actually tried to like it to the extent of actually believing it, until I played it a second time and I couldn’t bring myself to deny everything they did wrong with the game, especially its narrative concept
I personally loved the combat cause to me it felt so satisfying but I can see where your coming from but I also think the story also pushes it to be more entertaing and also my small minor disagreement is on how fast you decide to level up cause if your beating all the side quests and getting the chain assainations or upgrading your stances to the max then yea it would be easy and repititave and I think its kinda dumb but I like to do a little ways at I time so I respectcully disagree on saying the combat gets easy cause it all depends on how strong you are already.
Honestly, I feel like Assassin's Creed Shadows has already better mechanics or designs than Ghost of Tsushima for some reasons: - The map is larger and towns or settlements feel more alive (yes I know Shadows is in Central Japan, and GoT is set in Tsushima) - More varied combat options for Yasuke (he can use spears and war club than just pure katana) and Naoe (she has kusarigama, not only katana) - Yasuke can use a fcking rifle - Naoe has more stealth options and her shinobi kit - Different seasons I mean even older AC titles have better and a lot content than GoT (despite being a copy cat of Ubisoft games), like AC2 is still better than GoT
I guess it’s a game for people who loves nice visuals and bloody combat feel rather than substance I’m really disappointed It was soo overhyped and I bought into it This wasn’t worth it
I was also excited for this game until I read about how the gameplay would “let you play however you want” Based on the context of the story, why would you do that? Why would you *ever* do that? I still tried to like it until playing it a 2nd time
Ohh you can do better why don t you go creat your own game if your try to nitpick it
That's the dumbest fucking argument a person can make.
The game sucks soooo bad
Ill shine some clarity for all you older 90s babies the majority of people who play this shit are kids under 18 and the ones who gave good credit to this mastershit were either paid off or given a free copy. Its boring after 10- 20 hours freeroam is over rated and all games that go this route keep taking the control every motive-action- free choice- trope its so GTA that its mind numbing its annoying and it won't change because look who's teaching the kids to think outside the box...

Because you probably suck like everybody else who complains about this game

@Zack Smith Okay, fair enough. In your view, what in Ghost of Tsushima's narrative is connected to Kurosawa's oeuvre.
@@dyfuh8523 getting bored to sleep isn't the same as having a poor attention span tho
Don't worry. The game is really severely overrated. Repetition is crazy as hell. That's why in Golden Joystick 2020 it only ranked 5th.
It’s also almost comedic how obvious the dissonance is
You basically got it.

This game kind of breaks suckerpunch and it makes me never want to play another one of their games again
For example:
In the Samurai Route, your combat skills are unmatched but the Mongols use dirty tricks that force you to abandon the Bushido code.

Writing felt bland just like the gameplay.
I enjoyed the game because the story of the samurai always interested and getting to play as one is fun also it feels like a assassin's creed game and I like assassin's creed
Yeah but no hiden blades and its not as cool as assins creed kills
@@acer-ck9xw i never felt this as assassins creed it’s closer to far cry
@ace... yea more on like that
How this game executes its ludonarrative is unforgivable to me
And since that ludonarrative dissonance is such a popular topic, this should’ve been the rallying cry of “No, this is a line too far” it’s insane to me that there are people who don’t see it
I think suckerpunch has jumped the shark beyond repair
Dude.
And they jumped the shark really hard
Something that I hate about the story is how, like you said, the whole point throught it is that Jin is dropping his moral code, leaving his honor behind and embracing the Ghost...
Yet you can choose to remaing honorable at the end...and the game makes little to no effort to also display that in the story.
Doesn't seem like you have 2 paths from the start, you have just one, but at the end you can make a choice that makes no sense with the story and Jin.
It even had the audacity to ad in some missions set in big battles and I could not believe they did that
Thank you, sir.
Definitely still too high, but more like an 8-8.5 instead of a 9.3
I bought this game only because of the reviews after playing it for 10 hours I feel so bad about. Not a 10. 7-6 for me
This is what i find funny, this game is EXACTLY what Ubisoft does, it has their same open world formula: Go here liberate this outpost, reveal the map, now do this side quest where you have to help someone in trouble.
I loved the game but that cause I'm a samurai nerd. but every single critisim you made is absolutly fair
I feel like if it had been a tight linear story that only lasted the 10 or so hours, it might have been better.
Plus the game is so easy on hard, that I completely stopped using Jin other attacks just so I could make the game a bit more challenging, if I need to handicap my experience in order to have fun, that's a huge red flag.
Totally agree. If I gotta start finding ways to make the game fun, then the game itself is not fun lol.
So this game is easy even on hardest difficulty?
Really? Is it easy? Seems like the developers is being generosity
And also possibly the single worst example of ludonarrative storytelling I’ve ever witnessed. And I can’t believe they did this
Remember, this game takes place in the first Mongol invasion of Japan and Jin is still going to be hunted (at least for the ending where you spare uncle Shimura) for tarnishing the Samurai code
While yes, the story revolves around saving Tsushima island, Jin also deals with the conflict of being a honorable samurai until he realizes fighting dirty is the only way to repel the Mongols
@@devnail7368 Any story is bad boiled down TBH. I loved the story in GOT. The ending made me cry honestly
But still:
- Katana wasn't even "invented" in the game's year, 1274. (Although in Japanese dub, they called swords as "tachi")
- Hwacha wasn't even a Mongolian weapon, that rocket launcher was created in Goryeo (Korea) in the late 16th century.
So in reality, Shimura would be intrigued and proud from his nephew that he managed to defeat the Mongols by using guirella warfare
- Furthermore, when Shimura arrests Jin by the Shogun due to his "dishonorable acts", it's all bullsh1t.
- I'm pretty sure there were still a lot of samurai after the battle at Komoda Beach
- I'm not sure about this but...
That's Reddit for you lol. Lot of groupthink going on lmaooo
Chris Rivera I mean hey! They’re reddit! The real question is... which is worse, Twitter or reddit?
Lol thats hard to say
@@hydaralmaliki7784 I think Reddit is far worse. Atleast Twitter is informative and can bring you upto speed. Reddit is just pure unfiltered cringe.
@@chrisrivera7530 Not intentional but, predictable as fuck!
What are you even saying? lol like what part of my response are you referring to??
Man I can’t believe it being mediocre have you not played actual mediocre games?
5:48 OH MY GOD, THANK YOU! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who sees it!
Not only does the ludonarrative dissonance apply in this game, I actually believe this one went too far.
And I’m shocked that hardly anyone is taking note of it, since how popular the topic is, while simultaneously falsely accuse other games like uncharted or TLOU2 that don’t actually have it.
I don’t understand this world
Most of the praise just came from people who were super salty about tlou2. They just wanted to make tlou2 look bad.
Tlou 2 is objectively better
Naughty dog > sucker punched
What happened at tlou2?
I disliked tlou 2 because of what it was, but godamn it's kinda pathetic when gamers try to shill a obviously inferior game just to own "le sjw game"
It's slightly funny how the like to dislike ratio is "bad" but most of the actual comments agree with you. I haven't enough play time to think much about it but I doubt any game is perfect anyways
I get sad whenever I see a game like this. Its beautiful and interesting at first, but after that my interest in it just drops.
Have you seen the glitches in this game
It saddens me that they took such a good narrative premise and go out of their way to botch it this badly
We share the exact same opinions.

It’s a fact not opinion
@@V_For_Vigilante Lol you're right. I hate this wasn't a good game. I wanted to like it because it was a Samurai game, but it wasn't at all what I expected. I wanted something more like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice combat and gameplay.

Thank you 🙏 Glad you enjoyed the video!
Yeah I love Japanese culture and samurai but I got very bored with this game got to the last act and just couldn't play it anymore.
I feel that lol. I was not exactly thrilled to finish the game once I reached the final act.
Thats what exactly happened with me
I agree with so many of the points made in this video, the praise this game gets baffles me, I thought it was alright but nothing special but to hear people talk about it you’d think it was game of the decade.
I can see someone saying “yeah, it probably doesn’t work in execution but I had a good time playing it”
You’ve pointed a lot out that I never noticed through my many hours of gameplay in the game and really opened my eyes to the flaws. I only started to notice how repetitive the gameplay got after the Iki island dlc came out. In my opinion I think that the story is great but the main issue is the gameplay doesn’t exactly support the story which weakens it quite a lot.
I think that if they make a sequel they should:
1) Make it so that stealth is more rewarding and not forced
2) make the enemy AI smarter and more difficult (this complements the first point)
3)Make the smaller side quests more interesting and unique
4)Try to make the NPC’s feel more real and unique rather than robots with the exact same appearance and voice actors
5)Make trailing missions illegal
I enjoyed the story because I loved how the identity of “the ghost” started to affect jin.
It would've still got good reviews. It's not just for the sole reason of tlou2. It's weird seeing people say that this is a bad game.

Reminds me a bit on the Cyberpunk game.. you make choices that don't mean anything and you do repetitive missions in order to find stuff that you don't want or need.

Lol your an absolute idiot, GOT is absolutely garbage and that’s a fact
I personally loved the combat cause to me it felt so satisfying but I can see where your coming from but I also think the story also pushes it to be more entertaing and also my small minor disagreement is on how fast you decide to level up cause if your beating all the side quests and getting the chain assainations or upgrading your stances to the max then yea it would be easy and repititave and I think its kinda dumb but I like to do a little ways at I time so I respectcully disagree on saying the combat gets easy cause it all depends on how strong you are already.
This is perhaps the most boring game I’ve ever played. It’s just a totally mindless slog. It’s just simply not fun.
This game is a joke .........the most boring ninja game I've ever played and a waste of my money 💰
Honestly, I feel like Assassin's Creed Shadows has already better mechanics or designs than Ghost of Tsushima for some reasons:
- The map is larger and towns or settlements feel more alive (yes I know Shadows is in Central Japan, and GoT is set in Tsushima)
- More varied combat options for Yasuke (he can use spears and war club than just pure katana) and Naoe (she has kusarigama, not only katana)
- Yasuke can use a fcking rifle
- Naoe has more stealth options and her shinobi kit
- Different seasons
I mean even older AC titles have better and a lot content than GoT (despite being a copy cat of Ubisoft games), like AC2 is still better than GoT
I guess it’s a game for people who loves nice visuals and bloody combat feel rather than substance
I’m really disappointed
It was soo overhyped and I bought into it
This wasn’t worth it
I was also excited for this game until I read about how the gameplay would “let you play however you want”
Based on the context of the story, why would you do that? Why would you *ever* do that?
I still tried to like it until playing it a 2nd time
