- Our test of the 2008 Polaris Outlaw 450 MXR from 2008. With a powerplant based on the KTV 450 XC dirt bike's it yields smooth strong power delivery off the bottom that builds throughout the midrange before signing off on top. Marketed as a motocross macine it came with 18" Maxxis Razr rear tires but its 47" width was still a bit narrow for the track. Although its reverse gear and width that sat between what's ideal for cross country and motocross made it a capable do-it-all machine in stock trim.

The Outlaw wasn't perfect but it was a fun trail machine out of the box that could play on the track and be built into a competitive racer. Polaris needs to offer another sport quad like the 525cc but reconfigured slightly. Yamaha can't build enuff Raptor 700Rs for customer demand! I waited 2mos for my '21 Raptor 700R-SE .

O own a Polaris outlaw 525. Not many of these in Sweden so I am kind of uniq. But and awesome machine.

We have a project video coming out on one. Another jem that never made it to UA-cam.

We are waiting on shocks for a major Sportsman build and are planning a pretty cool Raptor build in the spring. Spring probably means more like late summer but...

Yes me too. Polaris or KTM! Be honest tho the best all around machine is still the Yamaha YFZ450R & it's still available. Get one while you can. I did.

I bought a newly complete rebuild but had a gasket leak after 2 oil changes. Hoping it's just that.
If I got the steel aftermarket airbox, full exhaust, and 2" taller rear tires I would be happy lol.
how did they drop the weight of the 450 from the 525 if the only real big change is cylinder and front shocks??
It is sort of a classic test so I will take it.

Any predator 500 videos coming?
I believe we still have the footage we shot of the Predator back in the day. I found it while I was working for ATV scene. The music that we used from that test wouldn't fly on UA-cam today. We have considered digitizing all of our old tape footage and putting up some Raw video edits from a bunch of them. The Predator would probably be on the list. I don't know if we will re-edit another test on it or not. I guess it depends on how releases like this perform. Like the old Predator though. That machine was a little underrated in our opinion.

@@ATVonDemand Would love to see some Predator footage too. Your comment about the Predator being underrated is spot on, they were awesome sport quads. You should do a story on Doug Nicholas too, he is in my opinion the best engine builder to ever lay a hand on the Predator, he got huge horsepower numbers from them. Luckily I ma getting one of his personal built 574 big bore motors for my Predator to race in the 2021 GNCC series.

Would it be worth upgrading to a 2009 450mxr from a 06 predator 500? Ive been looking at one recently.
If you want something a little faster and the 450 is in good condition then probably. If your Predator is in far better condition than maybe not

hello how's the supposed new kawasaki atv going?
Well, we haven't heard anything about it since their dealer meeting last year when they rolled out the Teryx 1000 sport side-by-side. They announce to their dealers that they were developing one's so we would expect it as a 2022 hopefully.

This was filmed in 2008 when the machine was new and we were testing all of the 450s.

@@jadenverduin4348 We took so much flack for not including the Honda or Kawasaki in that shootout. If they had been wider we would have included them of course. We loved doing that shootout. To pull that off in our first or second year as a publication was freaking amazing.

The Yamaha is a better machine but the Polaris and KTM were cool. Good luck with your search.

Please allow us to respectfully disagree. With nearly 2.3 million views on our Raptor vs YFZ shootout we believer there are a number of people who care. There are a lot of young guys just getting into sport ATVs as can be attested to by the rise of the new sport ATV blog channels that are popping up daily. Sure, a lot of people have moved from sport ATVs or dirt bikes to SXS but we think a lot of the lack of caring comes from the fact that the manufacturers don't care enough about the average consumer. They'd rather battle each other for the sale of $20,000 SXS than do something different like build a $6,000 to $9,000 sport ATV that the average person can afford.

Needs to be wider, learn how to ride the outlaw ditch that ass end and start sending, so many people talk down on the outlaw, besides ktms quad, fastest quad I’ve thrown a leg over!
