- This film examines child psychology through the story of a boy named Tommy Randall who has behavioral issues and has been caught stealing in school. The principal suggests to Tommy's mother, Mrs. Randall, that she send him to counseling. She reluctantly agrees, and she, too, speaks with a social worker about their home life. The counseling sessions are enjoyable and helpful for Tommy. The therapist and social worker suspect that Tommy's mother and his home life are the cause of his troubles. Mrs. Randall's mother lives with the family, and still treats her daughter like a child. Mrs. Randall also treats her husband, Tommy's father, like a child. Despite trying her best to be a good mother, she has much insecurity and dismantles the father's authority. The therapist and social worker agree that once Mrs. Randall becomes honest with herself about her own problems, her problems with Tommy will fix themselves.

Man, this reminded me of an event in school when I was a kid.
We had two kids per recess stay in class for some reason, I think it was to clean things up. We were gathering money for some class trip or something, and the teacher had left some coins on her desk. I picked them up, told the other kid that "I'm gonna steal these!" and we laughed. At that exact moment, I think the bell rang or something happened, I don't recall, but I soon realized, that I was sitting down, at my desk, with the money still in my hand.
I looked at the teacher coming in, hoping that she would not notice, but of course she did. It didn't take a detective for the teacher to figure out that I had the money.
I remember sitting down with her at some point, and she would give all these reasons as to why, and tried to force me to admit that I stole the money, but I wouldn't admit it, because that isn't what happened. Since I was a small child, I didn't have the words to explain what happened to an authority that was angry at me. At one point she said, "Maybe you just took them by accident.." My eyes lit up, and the first words I said during that whole sit down was "That's what happened!". She ignored it, and I don't exactly recall what happened later. I remember being accused of every theft and every problem hence forth, when I was actually making a joke about stealing, because that was something I would never in my mind do.

The mom reminds me of my grandma when she was younger. She would have been slightly younger than her though. I guess she would have just been 13 at the time this was made - my dad's oldest brother wasn't born until 1959. But I really miss all of my grandparents - I guess that's why I see them everywhere. They were like my best friends growing up. I remember her mannerisms on the phone with her mom and sister and friends - "Oh, you don't mean it..", "I declare.." Lol..
She sounds nice. My grandmother would be on the phone and she'd say, "My land!"

@The mysterious Miss X big difference between boys and men of course grown men with office jobs have to sit that's their bread and butter but given the choice for the same pay they can either stay in an office or work outside I'd say a greater percentage would prefer doing an active job. Ashlee. I believe that if you were diagnosed once, you are always mentally ill for life. It is not about what you believe about yourself. Karen Carpenter believed she was fine when someone told her she wasn’t. Although she tried to get better. There are cases when people are harmed really badly because of psychiatric medicine. Then you can get called derogatory words by even your doctor. Your medication can hurt you so bad and your loved ones will wait for you to get psychotic. I guess that it’s jealousy. That the people’s main goal to make yours miserable as possible. They want you to be in a dark place. They don’t blame themselves. They blame you. They will make up stupid reasons to why you need to be in a hospital where they treat their patients like basket cases.
Professional help. Back then they paddled the kids at school. And my mom would slap the shit out of my brothers ( for stealing ).

This film shows a time when people cared about their children. In our 2018 world the parents would say, don’t you see your mother and I have our own problems and also we are thinking about getting a divorce and then you can tell your foster parents your problems. The world has changed to a, what’s in it for me society.

Out of several children my mom is like this with my eldest brother. He's fifty six of age and still treat's him like her lil boy. He always gotten everything even to the rest of us destrement. Even though he's been in cans out of jail all his life she doesn't see any wrong in him but she could see the wrong in the rest of us. I use to have a lot of resentment but not anymore... what good would it be to hang on to past and present of this behavior. I'm not going to ruin my life by giving these facts my energy. This sounds like my mother in law and her oldest, my husband being the youngest. She does the same thing and this lady lost custody of her 3 children for vary bad neglect and abuse, she still walks on water. Anyway there’s my life story

Now, this was a good one. Logical reasoning, the whys of the exhibited behavior, and how to understand yourself and thus others. The pictures were actual drawings by a child, very easy to tell.
The feelings which this bought out, sure as hell have surprised me.
I find I am very angry. As a teen I was not treated as myself, but an appendage to my father’s life, without much support from the mother wow! What a way to put it - “the mother”. I certainly don’t feel that way, but she was absent from how my dad dealt with us. She wasn’t protective of HER children. Everything revolved around the dad!!! I am now 78, and am amazed that I am still affected, although much, much less. Still need to be positive about stuff, but also much less than used to be. 🌷🌱

Sure. Actually, the principle would have gotten his paddle out and beaten Tommy in his office. There was no referring anyone out for an assessment. That's what happened "back in the days..." The teacher could have also smacked him across the face. I know, I was there in the '50s.
@@diane9247 This is truth in school, even in the 70's. I kicked a girl in the shin and knocked a scab off her leg so it did bleed. The principle got out her paddle aka the board of education for the seat of understanding. I was exceptionally tall and she couldn't go thru with it. She told me I was to big to paddle and she expected more from me. That has stayed with me. I'm 53 now. I was grateful, my life at home had enough violence. By the way, I kicked the girl in the shin on accident. Swinging.

Brooks Murphy - Yep! In 1986, 7th grade, I got a paddling by our vice principal (a super creepy dude) for sucking on a lemon drop candy during class. That was a huge thick paddle and I was maybe 90 pounds tops. Makes me furious to this day.

I let my husband guilt me into moving to new mexico so he could work less and retire. Our son hasn't stopped blaming me yet. Says it's my fault we moved because I didn't put my foot down. When he was actually considering leaving my mother she told him that if he left she would kill me and then herself 😢 back then dads didn’t get custody of the children especially if the child was a girl like me 😢 so I grew up on eggshells about absolutely everything I was never good enough for her so she would grab a belt and just wail on me 😢💔
Now-a-days, they wouldn't really talk to Tommy, or let him near toy firearms. They'd just write out a scrip and send him on his way. The following week they'd ask him, "How are you feeling?" If he gives the wrong answer they'd just double his dose.

@@86harao I am REALLY kind and loving towards everything. But i can "Sound" like i am angry when i am talking sometimes if i am frustrated, but i don't get angry for real. Unless someone hurts someone in the "Pack" or me. ( Like ruining my teeth and so on),, then i don't know what i would do. Maybe biting their nose off or something after i have ruined their mouth in the same fashion.. I CAN*t feel empathy towards people that display "Sadistic" or "Cruel" traits/behaviour. How the Hell could I help that or be a bad mother simply cuz I couldn't breastfeed? I wish I could have. Let me add thar I have 2 of the BEST kids in the entire world. They don't drink or do illegal drugs. They're very intelligent. They work hard and have good jobs and great relationships with their spouses. I wouldn't change a thing.

What do you know about female anatomy or breastfeeding or the many reasons some women cannot breastfeed you f-king moron who thinks he’s super smart? For instance, I was in a pretty awful car accident as a young woman. The seatbelt that saved my life also caused some real damage. That included my left breast being “put through the wringer” so to speak. It was also one of the most visually stunning injuries I’ve ever seen or suffered personally. The level of bruising was unbelievable! So many shades of colors that don’t seem to belong in any “healing” process.
But it also left me with some severe scar tissue which remains after 27 years. I had to have annual mammograms for the first several years afterwards and I was 24.
This scar tissue made it impossible to breastfeed my second child in the same way I had done so with my first child. I was so disappointed in myself. I was shamed by others as well. I did breastfeed my second child but the injury did permanent damage and I was not able to provide enough milk. I had to rely on supplemental formula for her to feel satiated. It really tore me up.
No man-I don’t care who he is-has any business calling a mother who is physically unable to breastfeed through no fault of their own (or even a mother who chooses to use formula for other reasons) evil and horrible. He proves just how big an idiot he is when he does so. Makes me wonder a bit about alexhagedorn1365’s relationship with his own mother actually. I recommend that he STFU.
It’s also proof that the mother is always the one to blame for any problematic behavior their child displays. I’m sick of it. I know it’s exhausting to try to live up to my traumatized husband’s idealized version of a wife and mother which he holds onto NOT because his mother was a horrible, evil woman who refused to breastfeed. It’s more likely that he hangs onto that idealized version due to the trauma of losing his mother while still very young. It’s a trauma that he refuses to acknowledge. But it’s got everything to do with feeling abandoned and not getting the care he needed to help him learn to cope with and manage that loss. You know…,because kids are soooo resilient, kids don’t know anything about the real world or anything about how they feel, big boys don’t cry….among many other societal BS. It makes for a challenging marriage and life.

What teacher would let her money seen on her desk in full view and open as a trap toncatch a poor child who doesn't t have N allowance for doing house chores? That to me is a very bad example of putting her purse in her locked up desk drawer! What fool director and script writer developed this film? Lead a horse to water if he s thirsty and he ok drink of it. We need more responsible teachers in our schools ,who don t tempt children who are set up.to fail! I m a responsible teachers,but was never really loved. I accepted challenges of pain to prove I was tough like a boy. I was the eldest daughter of 8 kids and hslad to be tough to take on adult chores and responsibility when I was 9 years old. I was taught how to sweep the kitchen floor and wash it then ,take off the wax with Spic and Span then rinse and wax the floor. That was my first job at our home. If I wasn t home from when dad got home from work then I was beten with his belt he wore it a stick he pulled fresh off the tree. I drew a picture like that one displayed on the wall of the classroom. Yes! You met a real child who was beaten when I broke. a rule dad made. We all were fearful of our dad. Later I learned other kids like the preacher s daughter was treated the same by her dad. It was the way it was if there were more than 2 kids in the family.
