- Your jaw shapes the rest of your face, providing a frame for the rest of your features. If you are uncomfortable with its appearance because it is too large or protrudes differently, you can achieve the look that you want with jaw (mandible) reduction surgery.
Jaw (mandible) reduction is used to narrow the lower third of the face-particularly the contribution from the mandible and its muscular attachments. There are several techniques that our Los Angeles plastic surgeons may use for your treatment-including surgical and non-surgical methods.
The size of the jawbone is what determines the width of the lower face. If the bone is thick and wide or the muscle is thick and bulky, it will result in a widened face. To reduce the size of the jaw line, the bone is carefully filed down and a portion of the muscle is removed. The muscle will still function properly, but the fullness will be decreased. This will create a more oval-shaped jaw line with a softer and smoother angle.
Surgical techniques are used to directly reduce the size of an enlarged mandible. Your incision can be made on the inside or outside of the mouth, though the internal incision is the most common because it leaves no visible scar. A burr is used to remove the outer layer of the enlarged mandible, narrowing the jaw.
Non-surgical techniques are essentially limited to cases in which the masseter is enlarged. A convenient method to treat an enlarged muscle is through the use of Botox injections. Botox is injected into the enlarged muscle, weakening it so it slowly becomes smaller through atrophy over the course of several months. There is no downtime with this non-surgical approach and improvement is gradual-nobody will notice that you have had Botox treatments performed.

There are many ways to obtain a more V shaped face, with mandible shaving being the most aggressive of them. Noninvasive options include Botox injections in the masseter muscles. Liposuction of the lower face and neck, buccal fat excision, and even chin augmentation are other methods used to obtain a more angular jawline.

I just had jaw and chin reduction as part of facial feminization surgery. You'll look like you swallowed a football for a few days, but the swelling goes down rather quickly. The reinnervation of the area around the stitches takes the longest from my experience.

Really? Because I had buccal fat removal surgery, but it seems like it made no difference after awhile. Didn’t think this one would be an issue too.

@@user-ef5nd3ho3n fat and skin are different things...if you have excess skin it can sag i think...i mean bone and fat is the foundation on which skin resides...if you remove the inner two in large quantities then the excess skin should sag in theory..
It's the same as gaming and losing weight. The excess skin will be resorbed however much it can. Age and lifestyle depending
Cost?
If you look online it can cost ~$10000, though I’ve seen costs being cited to even up to $20k. Generally it seems that South Korea is cheaper, though you’d have to consider the costs of traveling and accommodations. You do have to consider that this is a very invasive surgery.

I think I grid and clench my teeth a lot and I think I have a lot of jaw muscle?? Is that a thing?
Have you ever tried getting a Neuromodulator like Botox or Jeuveau injected into your jaw muscle? This could help relieve the pressure without going all out on a surgery
How long will it take to open full mouth like normal after surgery?
It actually doesn't affect mouth opening at all!
