THANK. YOU. Holy shiteballs batman, how is this so hard to understand for some people. It's wild how they somehow cry about their money (because nobody watches) and you have a girl whose brought more eyes to the sport than damn near ALL the eyes that watched ALL the WNBA games in total last season. Diana was always my GOAT before CC, but her hating non-stop, she can kick rocks.
One big reason the WNBA vets are upset/jelly with this new crop of players, is because CC, AR, CB, etc are coming into the league already millionaires. And will continue making money, because their NIL deals go with them into the pros. Those rookie salaries mean absolutely nothing. The vets had to go and play overseas when the WNBA season ended to supplement their income. The only other players that I can think of who didn't do that were Skyler diggins, because she had so many endorsements already, and Elena Delle Don because her family is rich.

Calling Taurasi and Sue Bird, Magic and Larry is also crazy because Magic and Larry is when the NBA really took off in popularity and then Jordan took it to a whole new level.
The WNBA may have gotten incrementally more popular when Taurasi and Sue played but hardly in an impactful way. They both got drafted two decades ago and the WNBA is still being subsidized by the NBA. So what monumental change did they bring?

Not really, he was hyped up a lot, so much so they dubbed him "The Chosen One". I still remember the espn commercials with him in it and the majority didn't really hate him till the 3rd-4th year. This could be an awesome beginning of the GOAT narrative for the wnba. There is now a lot of women that can play the role as a villain or take the crown as is it was when Jordan was playing. Jordan’s villains were the pistons, Bird, Magic, Drexler, Payton, Barkley, Ewing and Starks, Mutumbo, Malone and Stockton, Reggie Miller, Olajuwon, Iverson, Shaq, Kobe…The plot has already been and continues to be written for Caitlin….it’s so fun to watch, enjoy the F******g show!

CC needs a rival. Bird had Magic...that's what turned The NBA from having The 1979 NBA Finals being televised on tape delay late at night....to the eventual juggernaut that it is today. The WNBA aint gonna survive being a one trick pony. It'll get boring see one person dominate everyone else.
Even when Jordan was dominating...it wasnt easy for him. There were a number of very, very good teams who made him earn it over the years. That journey, told a very compelling, entertaining story over a number of years.
If the only sellouts/highly rated WNBA are games that CC plays in....while the rest of the leagues games played by the other teams are in the toilet (just compare The NCAA women's tournament CC games...vs the non-CC games. Not even close...CC games blew away the non-CC games.
Sure, the CC WNBA games will be a ratings bonanza for The WNBA. However, those ratings arent going to hold up long term without other CC-like players competing against her. It'll just become a slightly less boring version of The WNBA prior to CC's arrival.

And let's be honest, Iowa would not make it to a championship game without Caitlin. SC has a stacked deck, just like LSU. People get tired of seeing the same teams win over and over. I was just thinking about this. Everyone’s comparing her game to Steph Curry’s which is accurate. But from a greater perspective the things she’s doing for the woman’s game is like what Jordan did for the NBA in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s pretty incredible.
