Very nice! Good to see Sensei Higaonna teaching karate I missed having Sensei here in the United States of America. I enjoy watching the way Sensei attacks the feet.
I dont even study this system but I like it. I am a Kenpo Karate Black Belt; Shodan (First-Dan) in Tracy's system and and a Second Degree (2nd-Dan) in the Parker system and I see similarities between this and the Kenpo system that I currently studying.
What is the use of this kind of practice, is it like training to continue to be deft in dealing with street crimes that threaten him or defend others or are fantasizing about being a warrior?

the grand master shows the technique. some are busy with other things. Those who do this have black belts!.. .how did you get those belts? unreasonable. When the teacher speaks, everyone should be silent. otherwise you cannot learn anything.the chance to work with grand master never comes again. You must be respectful first learn respect .
Just a tip to all. Try and implement it in your sparring. Get the timing right. Then get to use it in your competitions. Then these techniques will work. You have to train them in more real environment. What they are showing you is the first step. HOW to do the technique.Implementing the technique is you using it in your kumite.
Same here! All who came to seminar have BLACK BELT on them but VERY POOR TECHNIQUES and BASIC MOVEMENT KNOWLEDGE ( How did they get their Black Belts so ???????
May not be that bad. They just practice in thin air too often. My school is the same. Kihon and kata is sharp, but when it comes to drill and grappling biomechanics, we r frustrated
I love Higaonna Sensei's seminars, but students should be respectful and not bring cameras and phones to the training area.. Sensei does not like this..
A black belt is not the end of the road, just a new beginning. Ther's a lot to learn - and perhaps the most important of it all - once you've obtained your first dan...
The difference between the Chinese and the Japanese teaching of the arts is that in the Chinese method you begin to learn the art from day one. In the Japanese method you learn the art after you have achieved your first Black belt (1 Dan). When you train in the lower belts you simply learn the "alphabets," like how to punch, how to stand, how to kick, how to move, etc. After the 1st Dan you begin to learn the art or "forming words", as you gain skill you learn "how to form sentences," or how to combine movements of defense, parry and attack. In the Chinese way, you learn a few letters, and are immediately taught to form a word, and a few words and have your first sentence, then more letters, and so on. Both methods are effective and have their proponents and detractors. The Chinese Martial Arts developed clandestinely, in monasteries and often the teacher would no have the time to complete the basic lessons. Hence the system of iterative teaching. Being on an Island and not subject to imperial harassment helped the Japanese teachers create a system of linear instruction which lasts to this day.

I hate how black belts don't even know how to do the basic bunkai properly like that shuto. It's the first fucking kata, how can you not know the bunkai for that? If you're gonna fake a goju black belt, at least know the bunkai for the first kata for God's sake. If you're a karateka from another style, then wear a white belt to the seminar because you're not a black belt in goju ryu, period.
