    Awesome! most Coloradans dislike the 'color do' sign. Homage to the mountainous scenery is what most of us do. It's the C shape (maybe avoided because initialized??)with a 90 degree base arm, zig zaggy from bicep toward hand. It is the most prevalent amongst locals anyway 😉

      The most native Deaf Coloradans that I met fingerspell C-O-L-O like I demonstrated in this video along with the COLOR DO sign which is used by many Deaf people across America. This was discussed in the ASL THAT! Facebook group which now has 63k members. Maybe in your circle of friends or in your area do the C mountains but many local Deaf people from Colorado told me that they hate the C mountain sign. To each their own. :)

      I’ve been an interpreter for 30 years. When I was recovering from surgery I was bored and learned where every state in the US is, all Canadian provinces, and every country in the world. It helped my interpreting so much.

      Would have been more helpful to state the name of the state *audibly* first before signing. I could not follow a long because I wasn't sure which state was being shown...but that's another lesson all together lol!

    Much easier to follow than the first video, biggest help is having the states along the bottom.
    Truly appreciate your time and efforts to those of us that are new to ASL.

    Mr. Wheeler, this was an amazing video. So pretty and I loved the fingerspelling hints at the bottom for most of the states. This was so very, very helpful.

    I wish you would make a capital cities video to go with each state. I live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. And I have never seen a sign for Murfreesboro, even though I know our capital is Nashville. I think the sign for Nashville is a Letter N done with the sign for Government.

      Mmm, I have seen some sign Nashville as government and of course it will be asked to spell later after signed N in government position if one does not get it. Don't be a righteous prick here, be cool as long as we understand each other. It is okay to agree to disagree or vice versa. Cheers

      ***** My wife is Deaf and she comes from a Deaf family, all from New York. They sign NEW YORK that way. There are a few different signs for NEW YORK, and CALIFORNIA. I am only showing one in this video though. These are the signs that I have seen Deaf people use. Some use ILY or ILL for Illinois. There is only one sign language in the USA and that is American Sign Language (ASL). There are sign systems or Manually Coded Systems (MCEs) called Signed Exact English and Cued Speech to name a few. These are not languages, because English is their primary language. ASL is the only stand-alone language of its own that is signed in the US. Pidgin Signed English (PSE) is a mix of both SEE and ASL and it is just a mix of English and ASL, which are two different languages. Hope this helps.

    I thought Maine was the f-shape on the left side of the chest. This is shown in your 1st edition of the 50 states.
    I thought Pittsburgh was the f-shape on the right side of the chest.
    I mix these 2 signs up.

    • @CraySockBroski
      @CraySockBroski 4 роки тому

      No. Repeated on the left chest means fraternity. Pittsburgh is the same as volunteer (right chest, pinch shirt.) Profit/Benefit is the hand going straight down on the right side. Maine and fraternity are the same sign, same motion, but different sides. That's why he made 2nd edition. :)

    Curious..??? Why is the 'West' in West Virginia opposite to the sign for west?

    • @gracesigns7784
      @gracesigns7784 6 років тому +1

      When I learned sign language I was told it doesn't actually matter if you sign WEST to the left or right as long as you are consistent with it and keep EAST in the opposite direction.

    • @RobertDMoore
      @RobertDMoore 6 років тому

      That's Virginia in the East and not hard to comprehend the look of geography, from the look of it, West Virginia rides on the back of East Virginia. :-) Cheers

    • @joannawitulski34
      @joannawitulski34 5 років тому +4

      There are two differences in how you would sign WEST; one is compass/directional based. Traveling, driving or giving directions, we will sign WEST as in opposite directions of EAST. The sign of EAST/WEST as in naming places such as WEST VA, both will move the same direction (right hand - move right, left hand move left) because they are name based, not compass based.

    • @Ruby.L07
      @Ruby.L07 6 років тому

      It doesn't matter which hand you sign with. Use your dominant hand. Whatever feels more comfortable to you. I'm a lefty I'm involved in the deaf community here in Arizona and not once has anyone told me to sign with my right . Whatever your domintant hand is use that one😀

    For Mississippi you would spell out the entire thing

    • @natty322
      @natty322 4 роки тому +1

      And for Montana you would sign a bit higher and with the palms facing a bit more out because in the video it makes it look like you are signing museum instead

    • @reinabravo8142
      @reinabravo8142 2 роки тому

      @@natty322 some people would sign it low or upper, it depends on context you're talking about. Also Mississippi is complicated to spell, shorter is Miss, again it is all based on the context. People will understand you if you both are talking about states and you said Miss.
