    I love how they pump out content for people my age, the gaming history. This is stuff that I remember fondly, the KeSpa era was something great, the forerunner of modern esports. Broodwar was one of the greatest and most difficult games of all time, and Jaedong and Flash are living legends, the gosu elite, true bonjwas.

    Jaedong didn't just earn the nickname "The Zerg Tyrant"
    he's the embodiment of it
    his aggressive plays are some of the most insane maneuver I've ever seen in SC Competitive, and they often paid off too

    • @aznanimedude
      @aznanimedude 5 років тому +24

      Jaedong is also the person that literally developed almost everything that is the staple of Zerg play in BW. He proved ZvP was Zerg favored after the topple of Savior and basically was like "no, Bisu is not the death of Zerg". He literally defined and showed how ZvZ is done, why there is a rock paper scissors between 9 pool, 12 pool, and 12 hatch, the strengths and weaknesses of each vs the other, as well as how to play both sides to victory. And he was the example of how to play against Terran.
      While Savior is a bonjwa because he revolutionized and revitalized Zerg to prove that Terran was not unbeatable, even at a time when maps were so heavily T favored and Z disfavored, at a time when the only bonjwas were terran players (and 4 out of 5 bonjwas are Terran), when Terran was considered broken (even though nowadays they still kinda are), Savior still struggled in other matchups, but Jaedong literally was the person you studied for every matchup and the person every Zerg attempted to model their style from, because he was the epitome and example of what Zerg could do.
      I also like what they said in this video, without Jaedong there may be no Flash as we know, and vice versa there might not be the Jaedong that we know. The thing about Flash is the playstyle he does is literally the perfect optimized style of Terran, knowing exactly what every build could be doing at any moment and doing just enough to stay slightly ahead or create an advantage against any race. But Flash would not have been able to make that playstyle without the players that existed at the time, like Bisu and Jaedong and Stork, the rest of the taekbangleesang.

      When I was 8 or 9 I used to watch vods of a lot of the pro league, osl, and msl matches with my older brother through people posting them on UA-cam, torrents, etc. Both of us loved playing broodwar and we used to love watching pros like bisu, nada, flash, and jaedong. The flash vs jaedong matches were especially entertaining to watch because it was competitive and they kept pushing each other to their limits . Even though I didn’t understand everything they were doing I still enjoyed it. Eventually, I moved on to sc2 and enjoyed it but not as much as broodwar. I’m 18 now but I still reminisce about those days when talking to my brother about video games.

      @VeroMithril uhh? Sc2 esports still depends on both koreans and western players. Besides the fact that the players do purchase the prize pool and not blizzard anymore. In fact sc2 became independent from blizzard long ago to the point where it doesn't even matter if they take dev's from sc2 because the competitive scene is able to hold their head above water on their own.

      @@wasdwasdedsf You were saying? What more does he have to prove to you at this point? He beat all the WCS foes last year, you guys called him a joke; so they pitted him with Koreans in GSL vs the World, he won that tournament too, beating all the best Koreans at the time in their perspective races, and 3-0d the zerg, 1-0d Maru, and 4-3d stats. And when you thought that wasn't enough but one tournament, and one game with Maru; he ended up coming back, winning some WCS - and then beat the Koreans against, at Blizzcon, giving us some of the best ZvZ I have ever seen (look at that match vs Rogue at blizzcon 2018, omfg, best ZvZ ever, it was intense, coming down with fighting for scraps as map mined out, and still close).
      He took a little break, came back for WCS winter this year, did decent, and lost 2 WCS events - but both to Reynor, the second best ZvZ person on the planet. But he has won more, got his own WCS titles... And you guys still doubt him...
      So he just won GSL vs the World second year in row, crushing everyone with ease this time, the best Koreans again, could not even make him bleed in that tournament. Nor could any of the foreigners for that matter.
      And you know that ZvZ nemesis he had? Oh, right after the GSL vs the World in the current WCS summer, he just 4-0d him in the finals in some very lopsided games.
      So I ask you: How the fuck do you find Serral overrated?
      Who are you even comparing him to when you say overrated? Who do you think you can pit him against in SC2 where you think he wouldn't win more often than not? Maru? No, he wouldn't beat Serral even 40% of the time; especially on account of Serral's latent ZvT strength after figuring out the nuke strat early in the year (with a now rather high win rate vs T in the last couple months or so). Reynor? After last tournament, and with the constantly different results both of them post vs overall race competition of high caliber, it is clear. No, Serral is just better, not slightly. Rogue, soO, Stats or Neeb? No, he would be favored against them as well.
      You are saying he isn't dominating anything, but you are just denying big result after big result, simply because you do not like him.

      lol
      hes overrated because hes hyped up as a god in a far lower skill game than SC1, in a dead game where semiserious washed up old koreans are the Cream of the crop. when sc1 was at the peak you would have 30 times more people trying to be proffesional, playing for professional teams, practicing more ffeciently and beyond fulltime, 12+ hours a day.
      fucking ancient 28-30year olds in zest, Classic, stats, soo would never have a chance in hell to be competetive with the top. for basically the whole duration of the game there werent a single person 25 and over who were top10 in the World.
      sc2 is a fraud dead game and thats why serral is disgustingly overrated. the guy didnt even become like top100 in the World until he was 19. flash, bisu and jaedong were ontop of the World in a game requiring more skill and had infinitely more competition at 15-17. there hasnt ever been a single person in sc1s history whos randomly arrived from nowhere at 19 and became noteable to any degree.

    This will get eaten up in the comments but like everyone said, you need heroes in any competitive scene, and that was Jaedong and flash. I religiously followed the BW scene back in the day. These two monsters literally stood at the top throughout all the meta changes. Even during the height of other players such as stork fantasy and other notable players, it was Jaedong and flash that brought excitement to everyone’s eyes.
    Jaedong is known as the tyrant and legend killer for a reason. Absolutely monster that brought the team lecaf back into a title winning worthy team.
    Flash came in at a time where he was seen as second best rookie, behind by.baby but he proved everyone wrong. Fucking cheesed Bisu during his height out of the osl, and after people thinking that was a fluke, became known as the ultimate weapon for his ability to consistently win ace matches and do reverse sweeps. KT magicns were at a time when their team of legendary players such as teach, nal ra, yellow and chojja became old. Flash brought kt into absolute glory earning them many titles they had never achieved.
    Both absolute monsters. I follow competitive e sports scene and nothing in terms of quality compared to the rivalry of these two. The most historic rivalry that brought e sports to where it is now is of course boxer vs yellow. This rivalry is so historic, which started the entire e sports scene and laid the foundation of competitive gaming, that you said boxers name to any korean and they know who he is.

    The F4 of SCBW/rising to incredible heights of popularity in esports.
    WCG is a classic too, missed those times.
    Was only able to watch BW from Arirang, and also with the help of SCBW replays which are low file sizes haha.
    The Korean casting though is unique in hype haha, bit funny sometimes but indeed adds flavor to the match.
    Whenever Flash and Jaedong battles, its quite painful to see a stomp on either side. Very close wins are the best, no sweep etc haha
    Flash eye twitching also was memorable haha, been like a meme that its his power up time.

    People dont understand how huge of a deal was flash in his prime. He broke the game so much that for a time it seemed boring(if it werent for JD or effort flash woulda have like 15 tittles both OSl and msl by now). I remember for a time zergs dominating terran right and left, except for flash which seemed to understand the meta better than everybody else eliminating all zergs(at that time he started using an aggressive style to punish fast 3rd bases to starve zergs), in what it was considered his weakest matchup. 70% winrate in a matchup in sc is something very rare, let alone having that winrate in ALL matchups.

    • @nafet
      @nafet 4 роки тому

      I don't think most people understand how much more favored you are when your winrate is just a little over 50%. I think it's jaw-dropping that Flash was at 70% against other PROS in ALL matchups.

    Giving flash that victory still seems unfair in hindsight, not only because either player of this caliber could win, but also because terran is usually gonna be behind in number of bases by at least 1.

    BroodWar was never in decline until Blizzard started messing with it. FvJD was great sure, but before that there was PLENTY of hype for every star league and proleague. Which is part of the reason why even still ASL is going strong despite the fact that Blizzard attempted to kill BW during SC2's release by trying to force the pros into SC2.

  • @孙林可
    @孙林可 5 років тому +2

    As a fan of Jaedong, I'd say although other people may consider them as rivial, Flash actually dominated and “destroyed” BW after the heater incident. JD had a lower chance against Flash, and Flash became the god. Cuz I'm a fan of JD it was so sad to watch JD lose most of time. In Shanghai OSL final, JD did 5 pool twice but both failed, and one of them was perfectly defended by Flash without a single death of SCV.
    By still, who else standed a chance against Flash except Effort? Ofc not other race users cuz T OP. And TvT is the mirror match that is hardest for an underdog to win.
    I love the era of Flash, JD, Bisu and Stork. They raised BW to a further new level which remained the highest peak. During the last days of OSL and SPL, I feel the most shining players were Jangbi, Fantasy, Soulkey, Zero. But only Jangbi looks brutal and better, others just maintained competitive enough during the time BW pro scene got a series of troubles...

    • @nafet
      @nafet 4 роки тому +1

      Actually Flash himself has said that they continued to learn even more about starcraft bw and develop new strats. That he could definitely beat his younger self if they were to play today just because of how much more they've mastered the game. Effort had some damn crisp gameplay back in the day.

    Could have done with a bit more explanation of what's actually going on in the game. Ehan (or something) timing? Ingenious cheese? Kind of bewildering to someone like me.

    • @Appletank8
      @Appletank8 3 роки тому

      Timing attacks iirc refer to strikes just as you get a power spike due to some upgrade you just finished. If you're just a little bit faster, you are able to suddenly do more damage than the opponent can take.
      A cheese is referring to an all in attack in the early game, relying on total surprise to try to overwhelm a base not expected to need to defend that heavily in the first few min of the game. If the cheese fails, either due to the cheese being spotted early enough, or a perfect defense, it is usually an instant loss because their economy was rendered non existent, so far behind that no army you can build will be fast enough to defend anything else coming in.

    So much hyperbole with theScore trying to create an epic rivalry narrative. You can't call it a great rivalry when Flash just stomped Jaedong for an entire year. Flash's GOAT career is the real story. His other matchups often produced more entertaining series too.
