"Realizing Woody Is The REAL VILLAIN Here" that's interesting because Woddy was supposed to be the villain..it was the case in the original screenplay, but they changed it quite at the last minute after negative responses to the test screening. Here a mini partial summary (they didn’t release the whole story to the public I believe): Woody was supposed to be a ventriloquist doll (instead of a stuffed doll ) as the evil leader of the gang and constantly yelling at Bo and Mr. Potatoe head . When Buzz arrives Woody becomes jealous and purposely pushes him out of the window. The other toys witnessed that and make a rebellion.Then the gang throws Woody out of the window as well before reaching out to Buzz . The scene where Woddy is stuck under a toolbox and Buzz is strapped to a rocket while it’s raining outside, Woody gives a fake apology to Buzz before leaving him dying in Sid’s hands….😐yikes 😅 I don’t know what they were thinking 🤔…but I guess it’s because the chairman asked them to make a more mature story than common Disney’s story…but they obviously pushed it too hard lol . I think woody is a flawed character which was progressive for its time. He wasn’t a hero but he wasn’t a villain either. His methods at the beginning were horrible, but he made a mistake and tried to fix it. I saw another commentary where the other toys just left Woody to rot in a sociopath’s (Sid’s home) which was just as bad. Ok “troublemakers”, you know who I am talking about. I like how Woody and Buzz were able to get through the Woody’s previous betrayal and work together and they are great friends throughout the series. That is a good arc and character growth there.
He wasn't trying to knock Buzz out the window. He was just trying to get him stuck between the dresser and the wall. But Buzz jumped out of the way at the last second, causing the knock out the window.
The original version of this scene from the Black Friday screening had him intentionally and strategically throwing Buzz out the window, watch that scene, it was disturbing.
The Buzz Lightyear movie that's coming out is about the man they made the toy for. So it makes sense that the human's voice is different from the toy's voice.

Toy Story doesn't miss and the Buzz Lightyear cartoon was great. I believe in this franchise and all of the movies have been excellent without getting old.

They were originally supposed to have a GI Joe blown up, but Hasbro refused, saying they were upset with them blowing it up. The compromise they reached was that they could have Potato Head instead. Pixar agreed, and they made it a Combat Carl instead.
During the first song when Andy's playing with him, you see Woodys expression change a few times. Also in the other toys defense: even though Woody didn't knock Buzz out the window on purpose, he did intend to knock Buzz behind the desk. They did catch him with Buzz's disembodied arm and later Woody kicked RC off the moving van with an malicious laugh. I can't blame the others for thinking Woody's gone off the deep end considering he doesn't come off well in this movie.

I actually have a bit of a theory as to why Woody has an ego during the first half of this movie. It's a bit spoilery, but during Toy Story 2 we see that Woody belongs to an old set of toys part of an old merchandise chain for a TV show called Woody's Roundup, which he just finds out about in that movie. It's also stated he was a hand-me-down, possibly from Andy's father or mother. So, in my head Woody's been loved for so long that maybe he got it in his head that he really is that great of a toy and why he feels threatened when Buzz starts taking his place in Andy's life, because he thinks he's still that great. This would also make the moment he explains to Buzz why he's better than himself more impactful, because he's admitting that over time he's kind of become old fashion. But in the end Andy still likes them both equally and in Toy Story 2 is pretty distraight when Woody's arm rips. Maybe it's just me looking too deep into it, though.
Tbh growing up I wasn't much of a fan of toy story but as I left from my childhood and into my traumatic teens,years that were ass and just moved by quickly, looking back at the movies and messages behind these fun movies it was quite emotional . And now I'm waiting for more Toy story lol. Probably gonna be like 25 or something when I see another one lol

A couple years after this movie came out (I was already at least 10) my older sister came home super freaked out. A mutual friend had told her about their first-hand experience of doll possession (moving on it's own, voice, all the things). She didn't calm down until I pried the story out of her... I may be the little sister, but Billy- I did exactly what you said you used to do. I picked on her, my style. It was like 930pm so it's super dark and she's in the darkest corner of the room- shaking the entire bunkbed with her terror. When she got done with the story I realized next to me I had a doll who'd had a few years on her and because of multiple accidents her plastic head would go all the way around her head. I lowered the doll down so she could see the doll and spun her head around slowly, just like Woody and quoted the show "We see everything." *slightly sadistic sigh*
Of course the line “YOU ARE A TOY!!!” is amazing, but an underrated thing in this scene is Woody’s facial expression before delivering the line. His face just screams, “Is this dumb_ss serious?”
Loved the reaction as always! Little fact: the new buzz movie "Lightyear" is about the human astronaut who inspired the buzz toys, so it not being the original buzz actor makes sense. Our man captain america sounds quite cool ngl. Can't wait for Saturday 😊
Lots of good memories with this one. It came out when my dad was stationed in Germany and we had to wait months for the base theater to get it. Then later in high school I drove a big van with a tv in the back. Wed ride around, skip class and one of the movies we had in the van was this one and matilda.
Honestly I think my favorite line in this film may actually be the “wait a minute…i just lit a rocket…ROCKETS EXPLODE!” Just the realization aa it happens lol

This is the first movie I can remember seeing in theaters. I was 4 when this came out and I have vivid memories seeing this. One of my favorite movies.
Right now I'm just trying to survive college. Working towards my nursing degree and I'm already in the harder classes, plus support, plus base classes and waking up so early. Dude I was 5 or 6 and saw this in theaters when it first came out and I was BLOWN AWAY at how *real* everything looked! It doesn’t hold up as well now but 3D animation was completely new at the time and it was big deal.
I bet that Andy used the karate chop action during playime and Woody noticed it (maybe even Andy did it to Woody, like with "shooting" him with Buzz' laser and made him stomp him when his mom was suggesting Pizza Planet).

2:02 I was actually 1 when my mom popped in "Toy Story" on VHS; the year was 1998. It was the 2nd Disney film I've seen, but is my favorite movie of all time.
Most of the movie DID take place in the summer-A peak time for moving if you have kids so they don't have to miss any school days and the transition to a new school is much smoother. So, between that and the Christmas scene at the end was about 4 months

Excited to see the Toy Story 2 reaction! I've actually only seen the original Toy Story maybe once or twice in my life, I grew up with the second movie :). (The 3rd movie is probably my favorite though XD)

In the original concept of the movie, like FULLY STORYBOARDED CONCEPT Woody WAS INDEED meant to be way more callous, a jerk, and arrogant.Lasseter felt embarrassed after showing the real, when it was shown how unlikable not just Woody, but all the characters were. The reel nearly got the film shut down by Disney. One of the changes was that Woody's characterization was significantly softened so that the audience will sympathize with Woody rather than view him as a villain. I mean Woody now is KIND OF a jerk, but it is understandable that he's a bit....not rude just kind of stressed with the move. He's not MEAN, but he certainly isn't the most empathetic toy either. That comes later. AND THIS SO WORKS for future Toy Story movies; his jealously and learning how to overcome that jealously, allows him to make HUGE decisions that benefit and impact the entire group, rather than just himself. Hell it takes four movies for Woody to realize you CAN think of yourself, and put yourself first, but there's a right way to go about it.

No, Woody was trying to make Buzz fall behind the desk so he gets stuck there and Andy would take him to Pizza Planet, so he could be played with again. He didn't have any intention to finish Buzz off, things didn't go as planned and caused to get him out the window instead. In an earier story reel, known as the Black Friday Reel (which was made after Jefery katzenberg thought the movie was too juvenile and wanted it to be more edgy, Woody became a real jerk in that one), Woody threw Buzz out the window on purpose, the toys confronted him and were going to throw him out the window as well before Andy comes to the room. This caused Disney to almost shut down the movie (or at least move the production and Pixar over to Disney so they could keep a closer eye to them) but John Lasseter begged for two weeks to turn it around and they did (one of the executives commented on the final reel saying "Have you guys been taken funny-pills, or what?" as the humor have been vastly improved).

It’s still as funny to me now as it was then. And I never knew the voice of the dinosaur is the Inconceivable guy! That’s hilarious. And I do remember that the first time I saw Minions, I was heavily reminded of the alien dudes in this movie. I think they were definitely influenced by it.
I was graduating from high school and going to college when Toy Story 3 came out, just like Andy was. My friends and I definitely cried when we saw it!

So, in my head Woody's been loved for so long that maybe he got it in his head that he really is that great of a toy and why he feels threatened when Buzz starts taking his place in Andy's life, because he thinks he's still that great. This would also make the moment he explains to Buzz why he's better than himself more impactful, because he's admitting that over time he's kind of become old fashion. But in the end Andy still likes them both equally and in Toy Story 2 is pretty distraight when Woody's arm rips. Maybe it's just me looking too deep into it, though.
This movie truly made 6 year old me believe that my toys were alive and would talk and do things when I wasn't looking lol

Tbh growing up I wasn't much of a fan of toy story but as I left from my childhood and into my traumatic teens,years that were ass and just moved by quickly, looking back at the movies and messages behind these fun movies it was quite emotional . A couple years after this movie came out (I was already at least 10) my older sister came home super freaked out. A mutual friend had told her about their first-hand experience of doll possession (moving on it's own, voice, all the things). She didn't calm down until I pried the story out of her... I may be the little sister, but Billy- I did exactly what you said you used to do. I picked on her, my style. It was like 930pm so it's super dark and she's in the darkest corner of the room- shaking the entire bunkbed with her terror. When she got done with the story I realized next to me I had a doll who'd had a few years on her and because of multiple accidents her plastic head would go all the way around her head. I lowered the doll down so she could see the doll and spun her head around slowly, just like Woody and quoted the show "We see everything." *slightly sadistic sigh*

Lots of good memories with this one. It came out when my dad was stationed in Germany and we had to wait months for the base theater to get it. Then later in high school I drove a big van with a tv in the back. Wed ride around, skip class and one of the movies we had in the van was this one and matilda.

This is the first movie I can remember seeing in theaters. I was 4 when this came out and I have vivid memories seeing this. One of my favorite movies.
Right now I'm just trying to survive college. Working towards my nursing degree and I'm already in the harder classes, plus support, plus base classes and waking up so early. And this year is weird compared to the others because of it being more in person versus d2l and its causing me anxiety. Hope things are going well for everyone else!

Dude I was 5 or 6 and saw this in theaters when it first came out and I was BLOWN AWAY at how *real* everything looked! It doesn’t hold up as well now but 3D animation was completely new at the time and it was big deal.
I bet that Andy used the karate chop action during playime and Woody noticed it (maybe even Andy did it to Woody, like with "shooting" him with Buzz' laser and made him stomp him when his mom was suggesting Pizza Planet).

Most of the movie DID take place in the summer-A peak time for moving if you have kids so they don't have to miss any school days and the transition to a new school is much smoother. So, between that and the Christmas scene at the end was about 4 months

BRO have you heard of the black friday reel? In the original concept of the movie, like FULLY STORYBOARDED CONCEPT Woody WAS INDEED meant to be way more callous, a jerk, and arrogant.Lasseter felt embarrassed after showing the real, when it was shown how unlikable not just Woody, but all the characters were. The reel nearly got the film shut down by Disney. One of the changes was that Woody's characterization was significantly softened so that the audience will sympathize with Woody rather than view him as a villain. I mean Woody now is KIND OF a jerk, but it is understandable that he's a bit....not rude just kind of stressed with the move. He's not MEAN, but he certainly isn't the most empathetic toy either. That comes later. AND THIS SO WORKS for future Toy Story movies; his jealously and learning how to overcome that jealously, allows him to make HUGE decisions that benefit and impact the entire group, rather than just himself. Hell it takes four movies for Woody to realize you CAN think of yourself, and put yourself first, but there's a right way to go about it.

No, Woody was trying to make Buzz fall behind the desk so he gets stuck there and Andy would take him to Pizza Planet, so he could be played with again. He didn't have any intention to finish Buzz off, things didn't go as planned and caused to get him out the window instead.
In an earier story reel, known as the Black Friday Reel (which was made after Jefery katzenberg thought the movie was too juvenile and wanted it to be more edgy, Woody became a real jerk in that one), Woody threw Buzz out the window on purpose, the toys confronted him and were going to throw him out the window as well before Andy comes to the room. This caused Disney to almost shut down the movie (or at least move the production and Pixar over to Disney so they could keep a closer eye to them) but John Lasseter begged for two weeks to turn it around and they did (one of the executives commented on the final reel saying "Have you guys been taken funny-pills, or what?" as the humor have been vastly improved).

I saw this movie in the theater when it came out, I think I was a teenager. It’s still as funny to me now as it was then. And I never knew the voice of the dinosaur is the Inconceivable guy! That’s hilarious. And I do remember that the first time I saw Minions, I was heavily reminded of the alien dudes in this movie. I think they were definitely influenced by it.
