To be honest, the broken cobblestone fits the theme of The Haunted Mansion. However, Disney is lacking standards in maintenance. They should spend money on maintenance, and have high standards.

There are 12 total theme parks. That's only $500,000,000 on average per park per year.
That's not a lot relatively speaking. Universal is spending more on each existing park while building a brand new park.

@austinabram2405 Oh, thank you. I definitely meant 500M. Universal California, for example, is spending hundreds of millions on a new Fast and Furious rollercoaster after spending 575M on Super Nintendo World. Universal Orlando is building 2 new lands after opening a brand new ride with Minion Blast. And then Epic universal on top of all of the other parks spending well over 500M a year.

I worked my entire career in facilities management so I am well aware of what happens when the maintenance budget gets reduced. Management usually doesn’t understand that the hundred dollars spent today on maintenance will save then thousands in the future. Disney managers don’t want to repair the arch at jungle cruise, and only want to do a Band-Aid fix now. This action will cost them tens of thousands, or possibly millions in the future if a cast member or guest gets harmed when the arch collapses and causes harm to someone.

    • @brianhernandez589
      @brianhernandez589 10 місяців тому +1

I think they fully understand the consequences. The difference between you and them is that you care, they don't. Somewhere in a small room, probably underground, is a bean counter who says the risk is numerically insignificant as opposed to the potential loss or cost of repairs. After all, the parks are financially supporting the entire compoany.

Two weeeks ago, on our 25th anniversary trip, my wife and I were at MK, and went on Carousel of Progress. As soon as we entered, a musty odor hit us like a ton of bricks. We were seated on the right side of the theater, and with the additional light from the entrance, immediately noticed just about every ceiling tile bowed and warped (as moisture has a tendency to do), and right at the wall/ceiling junction, what appeared to be a thick dark line of what looked like mold. Hopefully, this state of disrepair gets nipped in the bud before it’s to late!

@Nonfiction79 Agreed. Your avatar brings up that exact point. With Disney raking in a ton of money on the Purple God of Imagination, why is his home still stuck in 2002? They have not done anything to the Twin Pyramids since. Instead, they copied the leaping water fountains on Journey of Water, and made a courtyard to charge your phone and laptop😝 While nice, I find it hilarious that they used tech from 1982 in that. Figment deserves so much better, and he also deserves a return of the Dreamfinder and an upstairs Imageworks with a new Rainbow Tunnel🤗

I took my son to Disney World this summer (August) and every ride older than 1 year was broken. They either broke completely and we could not ride it at all, or it broke while we were in line and had to get out of line and try later, or it broke while in line and everyone just waited in line for an hour until it came back up.
Every ride broke. (Except the brand new rides like the Slinky Dog rollercoaster.)
    Every single ride.
A lot of money to go to a run-down theme park.

I just got back from WDW on 10/23. I was evacuated off the people mover because it broke down. The Haunted Mansion ride stopped for 15 minutes. I did see the water in the cracks in the cobblestone at Haunted Mansion, but I thought that was part of the “effects”. Space Mountain had no Halloween overlay. It was just completely black inside when we rode it and could not see a thing. Jungle Cruise had trash floating in the water. Rock N Roller coaster also stopped at the very end for about 5 minutes. Expedition Everest had trash inside the area that looks like a fountain. The Skyliners were filthy, and had fingerprints and hand prints all over them even in the morning when we were first in line, which makes me think that they are never cleaned. I fear that WDW is not getting proper maintenance and it makes me very sad.

Just 2 things to say here...
    1. We haven't been to WDW in 11 years. We WANT to go but when we start to really plan, we struggle to justify the cost against the degraded experience and poor maintenance. We still have no plans to return until things improve.
    2. Pixar Place Hotel may be colorful and cute, but it still seriously misses the mark for what a hotel of that cost should be. The Contemporary Resort, with their Incredibles rooms featuring veneered and acrylic furniture and vinyl flooring, was where it started. I'm not paying $800 a night to sleep in Disney by Ikea. Wouldn't do it at Pixar Place, either.

These parks used to be famous for the care and attention that went into every inch; to see this is a truly sad indication of how far Disney has fallen under its current leadership. They still continue to fail to give their employees a living wage, seem determined to lock out more and more people behind concrete ugly DVC paywalls... 7:39 I worked on the Maintenance team for Space Mountain back in the early 80’s. Tom is correct. It’s embarrassing. I will speak my truth here, sorry if it offends. Budget dollars are never infinite. It’s simply priority. When they re-theme a ride for ideology not story reasons, the money comes from somewhere. Do you see it? They will cover the accounting so they can say no, but you see it in each example. All of them, but only the parks in America. Huh…
That’s why we don’t go anymore. They will not make another movie as good as Moana, until they root out the political activists and go back to only hiring the best. No matter what they look like.

I agree with you about the maintenence at the parks. I do think that Space Mountain and Peter Pan really need refurbishment. I know Splash Mountain is down like you said, but still. Space Mountain needs a lot of love.
Other than that, the People Mover broke down a lot and the Haunted Mansion was breaking down a lot as well.
Honestly, I'm hoping they expedite the Splash project and as soon as Splash opens they refurb Space Mountain and Peter Pan. I know other rides need it, but those two looked the worst to me. Space Mountain just needs tons of love. Like you said, they may well have to close it a year to tastefully update it with new effects, basic maintenance, and while they're at it they might as well add audio.
We were supposed to get refurbishments of all Magic Kingdom attractions for the 50th, and we got nothing. I know everyone says Iger is better than Chapek, but he promised that, and they never delivered.
But if they have to prioritize, refurbish Peter Pan, Space, and It's a Small World. One thing I noticed at Magic Kingdom as well is the fireworks. My goodness. Happily Ever After crowd control is non-existent. I stood 45 minutes trying to travel through the park. This is a safety hazard. I know Disney really doesn't want to hear this, but they HAVE to keep lanes of moving traffic open at all times so that people can reasonably leave the park at any time. You cannot let people sit and block traffic lanes, as they are doing now with Happily Ever After. Epcot seems to handle the crowds better, but honestly, Magic Kingdom never really struggled with managing large crowds before.
This was standstill traffic. It was a mob. Nobody could get to where they were going because the workers could not possibly control the park. It is extremely frustrating for the visitors (and for the cast as well I'm sure). Believe it or not, I left the park to watch the show, as there was no crowd control (or rather there were so few people working, the efforts were pointless).
I do hope Disney takes my concerns about the Magic Kingdom fireworks seriously. They need to enforce the open lanes more strictly than they have. It is a gigantic safety and fire hazard. No matter what anyone says, I'm an AP and know every inch of that park. It should never take me at any point in time 45 minutes to leave the hub. It just means it's disorganized. So they need to physically tape off one lane going one way and one the other. They have a lane now open sometimes, but the way of traffic is not clearly differentiated so that people all travel in one logical direction together. Basically, we drive on the right side. People should travel on that side and leave on the other. I don't understand why Disney World never does this. They do that at Disneyland all the time.

Tom, As a concern, lets go back to when WDW wanted to build that new off Main Street USA Theater. The new entertainment venue was to be based on the iconic Willis Wood theater in 1920s Kansas City, where Walt lived after he left Marceline.
The project was abruptly stopped after the geo-study showed collapsing aquifers under Magic Kingdom. These collapsing aquifers have shifted causing blocked drainage pipes (why the park is constantly flooding now) and the shifting aquifers are now cracking to the surface with a rising water table, allowing the water to seep out... I also Warn... this is a prelude to a "Sink Hole"😳
Is the Cinderella Castle and the “Utilidors” under the castle going to sink into the cracking aquifers????🤦‍♂️
Further investigation may find the whole park is becoming unstable, thus all the cracking and water damage everywhere...

I went to Disney world a few weeks ago for my 21st bday and I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of maintenance on the rides. we’d attempt to get on a ride at any of the parks only for it to get shut down all three days we went. First day we went to HollyWood Studios and tried to get on RRC and they shut it down and made us leave, stayed shut for 5 hours. Immediately went to TT right after and it broke down right as we were about to have the cart hook into the elevator drop shaft, they luckily let us continue the ride after they thought they’d have to escort us off, and then they let us ride again which I greatly appreciated the cast members doing. went to Magic Kingdom later that night and got on space mountain only for the A track to break leaving that side to have to leave, luckily we were on B track and me and my brother got to be the last riders for the night, but they didn’t reopen space mountain until 2 the next day. Also went on carousel of progress the first day and there was noticeable mold on the side of the theater walls. I still had a great time and it was still a magical experience, just a little disappointed at the amount of times we experienced something breaking down or shutting down entirely.
