Eddie Murphy was simultaneously the hottest and the coolest guy in the world at this time. Everything he touched was gold. He was so fast, so flippant, and so fresh, everyone looked forward to seeing what he'd do or say next. It's one of those movies that still holds up pretty well, mostly because he's one of the most charismatic mothers who ever walked the earth.
I didn't know he was a mother... Must've missed the invitation to the baby shower.....
It's a memorable movie because of Eddie Murphy. It's pretty 80's standard comedy/action cop movie with cliches. Bad guy involved in drugs. Even the angry yelling black police captain was overly done in 80's cop movies. But Eddie Murphy was gigantic then. Everything he touched was huge.
For a movie that could easily have degenerated into a series of comedy skits, the character arcs of Bogomil, Taggert, and Rosewood are really well written. They may not have liked Axel at first, but in the end, they're police officers and Axel solved a murder and he earned their respect.
The song is called AXEL F, It was MADE for the movie.
the soundtrack is just the best.
😂It's the same as saying they play the Bond theme too many times in a Bond movie.
😊@@MichaelJohnson-vi6eh
@@MichaelJohnson-vi6eh😊😊😊😊
Harold Faltermeyer classic synth .
The soundtrack reached #1 on the Billboard charts.
axl and jenny are childhood bff's. they are like siblings.
We may never know if they were like that.
@@TimeVextorX i wad there, I know hahahahaha
My mom took me to see it in theaters when I was 10. It's one of those films that imprinted on me ever since.
"this isn't my locker" 😂
"This isn't where I parked my car..." 😁
"aint gonna fall for no banana in the tailpipe man!" - this film was one of my favourites as a kid so many great lines. You should watch all of the sequels.
that room would be $700 a night today
Yeah he thought that it was expensive back then!
"AXEL F" was not a song, it was part of the score by Harold Faltermeyer. It was the main theme, that's why they used it. AND WHAT LULLS?? God, people have no attention span anymore.
lmao Billy was my favorite, laughed so much. we all need a Billy in our lives
"Axel F" is an electronic instrumental track by German musician Harold Faltermeyer. It served as the theme song for the 1984 film Beverly Hills Cop.
I guess it's meant to be repetitive and the connection to the movie was meant to get in your head over and over.
Exhaust has to exit the cylinders/tailpipe any blockage builds up pressure, once it get to the point it can't exit exhaust, the engine stops running. We used potatoes, much better than bananas. Better seal & only one is needed.
There are two things you had to be there to understand. First, the scene where Axel is laughing at the clothes the LA folk were wearing showed a person in red leather. What you did not know was that he is almost iconic for the red leather outfit he wore in his stand up show, delirious. Check it out. The second thing that theme that played throughout. It was written expressly for that movie and it is called Axel F, written by Harold Faltermeyer, and it was released as a single and was a hit. So there ya go.
I don’t agree with that theory.
I think he was laughing at them because they were wearing Michael Jackson Thriller jackets, (which they are) which was incredibly popular at the time, which would have been when this movie was filmed.
Hey guys great reaction as always. The Axel F score was specifically for the movie and was supposed to be played to highlight how Axel got through everything. Back in the 80s it made it on the music charts.
Paul Risner is Jeffery in the beginning as Axel's fellow officer, he was in TVs mad about you. Inspector Todd, Axel's boss in Detroit was actually a real police officer, the producers wanted to have some realism for the boss there.
The banana disguise, I get how you guys might have missed it, but from the 60s to the 80s there was a famous comedy disguise of glasses a fake nose and mustache to look like the comedian Groucho Marx, so everyone knew it was a bad disguise and when you wanted to do a stupid disguise you would do something with those glasses.
Purely a fun movie, of course 84 was such a great year for movies and comedies- Beverly hills cop, Ghostbusters, police academy, and so many others. Looking forward to more.
15:15 - The anti-banana disguise was a mocking gag (doesn't matter if it made sense or not - that's the joke) to add public insult to Rosewood and Taggart screwing up.
29:48 - Cop cars fishtail because they utilize rear wheel drive (RWD). Fishtailing is also heavily used in Hollywood action movies for extra dramatic effect.
Definitely check out the sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987). It was made by the Scott/Bruckheimer clan (they made Top Gun) and the action, comedy, and shenanigans are dialed up to 11.
Cam and Zay's generation definitely don't, as we used to say, 'give each other sh!t.'
Judge Reinhold who plays Rosewood is a great actor. You should watch Vice Versa, such a funny funny 80's film! It's right up your street boys!!
Not to mention Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
@@Bfdidc One of the most overrated movies of all time. If it wasn't for
"THE pool scene", it would be a complete waste of time, and not worth watching at all.
This cast includes Mike Ermantraut (Jonathan Banks) from "Breaking Bad" (Zack, Victor's enforcer); Dick Jones (Ronny Cox) from "RoboCop" (1987) (Lt. Bogomil); Gunnery Sargent Casey Seegar (Lisa Eilbacher) from "An Officer and a Gentleman" and Brad Hamilton (Judge Reinhold) from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".
It just blows my mind people haven't seen this.
It’s 100% garbage that’s why , the first movie wasn’t even funny, only 2 minutes of Serge in the first was funny and the rest is crap
48 Hours next if you guys haven’t seen it. And Midnight Run with Robert Deniro and Charles Grodin. Oh and Ruthless People. Absolutely hilarious movie.
Foley’s police chief in Detroit was Samuel Jackson before Samuel Jackson😂😂
He is nor a actor. Just a police chef from a local precinkt
@@matsv201 I’m aware of that. He was a real police chief in Detroit where I’m from. I’m talking about his demeanor and performance reminds me of Sam Jackson.
80's cop movies many times had the overly irritated yelling black police capt. Cliche
Don't fall for the banana in the tail pipe.
Unless you're into that sort of thing, I guess?... I mean, if you are, they have parades for you and everything.....
1984 $235 would be $700 today
Good ole inflation
235 would be more like 1500 today.
That still sounds way too cheap for a high-end hotel in Beverly Hills.
i mean, I know from personal experience that $1,200 to $1,500 per night is considered fairly mid-range pricing for most upper-mddle to high-end hotels nowadays, and it's pretty common to see rooms in expensive locations (such as Beverly Hills) with a STARTING price of over 2K per night.
@@viperdemonz-jenkins He's correct. I have an inflation calculator I use quite regularly. The exact amount is $708.88.
@@WeerdMunkee normal inflation but this is mega inflation.
You said at the end about the 2 sequels. July 2024 only a month ago, there was a 4th installment released on Netflix. Because of the 3rd not doing so well, Eddie Murphy wanted to do another but surpass the 3rd. And it did! The 4th installment was great! So much nostalgia, used the same songs, characters. I didn't think it would work cos in the 80's you could get away with more stuff, not like today. But it actually worked, I was surprised.
36:19 - Zay, that was the theme song of the film. It was written for this movie. A lot of films back then used to have a general musical theme to set and maintain the feel, flow and character of the movie.
As a kid in the 80’s and teen in the 90’s I feel so lucky. The movies and music were something else back then. Glad they’re still going strong!
4:55 - That's Paul Reiser from the movie "Aliens" with Sigourney Weaver. He was the a-hole guy from 'the company', Carter Burke.
Despite watching him throughout his career, including this movie, I will always see Jonathan Banks as Mike From Breaking Bad/ Better call Saul
Judge Reinhold ("Billy") is in another really great, classic crime comedy film called, "Ruthless People" (1986), which also stars Danny DeVito, Bette Midler, Bill Pullman, and Helen Slater (of 'The Legend of Billie Jean').
'The song'; is called 'Axel F' , written for the movie
The repetitive tune is his theme song
Your respect for Billy will only increase as you watch the other movies.
Between Axel F, Neutron Dance, and The Heat Is On, you could not escape hearing from the sountrack back in the day.
Your parents was probably in the same age as you're now when this movie came out. One classic great movie.
These lads are like 26 years old. So if their parents were 26 in 1984, they were born in 1958. I'm 39 and my Dad was born in 1956 lol. So I think you got the maths wrong there 😂 I would prob say their parents were under 10 when this film was released in 84
@@Staffylover1985 keyword "probably ".. means you don't know.
@ASKMEABOUTMYGARDEN its kinda obvious they wasn't 26 when this came out. My mum was only 19 herself when this got released.
@Staffylover1985 oh I'm sure..js..we don't know..I was 12 when this came out..their parents probably weren't even born yet.
5:07 - Did you guys know that Inspector Todd (actor Gilbert R. Hill) was actually a police chief in real life in the Detroit P.D.? He was also crooked to and was in league with top drug dealers in his city. He was even accused of putting hits out on people. There's a documentary called "White Boy" (aka "White Boy Rick) that talks all about it.
Found your channel recently. Good stuff my dudes. Keep that shit up.
Axel's partner in Detroit is Paul Reiser. He was in Aliens as the scumbag company man and he was also in one sitcom with Helen Hunt back in the 90's.
Did you guys REALLY dig that deep into the “anti banana disguise” joke! And that wasn’t a banana peel on a pair of glasses. It was a pair of novelty glasses with a banana for the nose.
1. Movie magic: An entire truck loaded with EMPTY cigarette boxes (when necessary).😏
2. IMVHO Eddies' best movies are "Trading Places and "Coming to America"🤩🤩
3. Serge/Bronson Pinchot was in a funny series "Perfect Strangers".
4. Jenny/Lisa Eilbacher played Segar in "An Officer and a Gentleman" HINT HINT
5. Maitland/Steven Koff is one of the best bad guys ever! He also played the Soviet Colonel in Rambo II.
6. Billy/Judge Reinhold played Brad Hamilton in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".
Bout time, guys!! You’re gonna love it! 😅😅😂❤
You watched Beverly Hills Cop? Get the f*** out of here. Wait, no you cannot
I can't believe they skipped that part.....
You two crack me up!
Keep on just being yourselves 😎
Next up: An Officer and A Gentleman, a classic!
And if you want an awesome film under the radar: 'In Bruges' is an amazing dark comedy!
@@MattTownsend-c3z how about next up Beverly Hills Cop 2??
@ASKMEABOUTMYGARDEN that's like one of the funniest scenes
@joecortes7142 I know right my wife says that to me all the time. I mean if we're going somewhere I'd be like are you ready? And she'd be like no I cannot. 😄
The director of this film is the dude at the end of movie, the check out dude with the glasses(Martin Brest)
I knew you two would have fun watching this one. A huge hit during its time!
One of my favorites from my childhood (I grew up in the 80s), so smart & funny-this one never gets old. And the Harold Faltermeyer soundtrack is catchy as heck :)
23:59 “That’s aggressive.”
Welcome to your first Wince at an Alpha male in a Reaction.
You just heard a bark and peed a little.
This movie originally stared Sylvester Stallone who wanted to rework the script into what would become the movie Cobra, after he quit because the studio wouldn’t budge.
Fun fact! The end scene shoot out is the same set as the final shootout in Commando(I think you guys covered that, if not, what are you waiting for?).
The soundtrack is actually pretty good. Featuring The Pointer Sisters. They made up that riff they kept playing just for the Axle Foley theme song, kind of like James Bond.
But seriously the soundtrack is pretty good & I remember trashing my friend’s house back in like 2nd grade, after school when we weren’t allowed inside. We’d hurry up & put it back together before his dad got home from work. But until then it was Lord of the Flies! 😂 That was 40 some years ago.I guess the nostalgia makes it tolerable.
The Pointer Sisters were at the top of their game at the time and that main song was one of their many big hits. 🔥Always enjoy u guys!💚
The banana man in the hotel was played by Damon Wayans
Presidential suites run around $20,000 a night now a days
This and Bowfinger are my favorite Eddie Murphy movies.
The song was creates for the movie guys it’s literally the theme song to the movie 🤣🤣
That was an AWESOME pun, Cam.
0:44 Quentin Tarantino impression.👍 Not to shabby.🤣
Billy is wild
Cam and Zay, Hey Hey Hey. I love puns it's so Shakespearean Masochist!!! hehehe
The guy who popped his friend in Detroit then punched Axel in the stomach is a very young Mike from Breaking Bad.
"Couldve showed that offscreen".
So there was a trope with mid-late 80s action/drama movies, of killing a character, usually a good character or a side character (like innocent bystander) graphically and within the first 10 minutes of the movie. I'd name some movies that do it but i dont want to spoil it for you if you havent seen them.
But it was definitely a thing - i think at the the time they felt it gave the movie more gravitas and realism, but looking back it hasnt aged well and usually just comes off as exploitative.
The banana glasses thing is from the 80s you wouldn't get it if you weren't around then.
You guys definitely have to watch the 2nd one. Personally, I think its one of the few sequels that out-does the original.
Also, if you want another fun movie (presuming you haven't seen it yet), I'd recommend Big Trouble in Little China. It stars Kurt Russell as one of the greatest characters to have ever been created.
Wait till part 2 see just how much Billy likes guns.......lol
His boss Gill Hill was a detroit cop IRL
Watch Scent of a Woman in case you haven’t seen it yet. Incredible performance by Al Pacino and Chris O’Donnell
😂baby Mike Ehrmantraut
They should watch the entire Eddie Murphy 80s movie catalog except 1
I LOVE THE QUACKY, QUIRKY, FUNNY SSA PUNS CAM! KEEP EM COMING!🤣I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!💙
Early Eddy Murphy movies, brilliant, another good Eddy Murphy movie, from the 90's is Metro, action packed with Michael Rapaport.
Park this in a good spot. All this S happened last time I parked here. So good.
Axel might think twice going up against Jonathon Banks now!
Great movie. Back when people weren't so easily triggered.
A good idea is you guys should rate the music of each film.
7:46 Subsonic pistols do not necessarily make a flash, smokeless probably unlikely though.
keep the sequels comin' plz?
A classic.
You should watch Midnight Run and 48 Hours
I guess you guys ain't seen Breaking Bad yet 😂
Actually they would make the score or music or song for the movies back in they day and that would be in editing process.
You Guys can't Lower the Score for a Movie that is Doing the Same Exact Thing that Jame Bond, JAWS, Rocky, Star Wars & Indiana Jones has been doing! You guys REALLY Need To Rethink This about the Soundtrack effect!
4:55 Burke....the a-hole in Aliens.
Y'all two hilarious 🤣
Suggestions for future reactions:
Heat, Godfather 1 & 2
The Last of Us (tv show based on a video game, which I wasn't familiar with...but the show was excellent-only a single 9 episode season exists thus far).
Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1980s teen films that remain entertaining even now)
Half-Baked.
Lol, them saying “now every time I hear that score, I’m gonna think of this movie” was pretty funny. They get a pass for their youth I suppose. ;-) And I’m sure enough people have corrected them already, so I don’t have to! ;-)
This movie is classic, 2nd okay, I don't remember the 3rd (I have in my box set I should watch it again), the 4th I don't care to see.
$235/night back in 1984 would be 725/night now.
*Keep the finger off the trigger" is a Hollywood fiction.
You have a split second to eliminate the threat before he gets you. Completely ridiculous to give up any advantage you have in a possible fire fight.
great reaction. knew you guys would totally get all the humor for what it was. part 2 is better, imo. part 3 is still great enough to react to, but not my fav. and i havent seen the recent part 4 yet. do part 2 asap tho.
The ole banana in the tailpipe 😏
Since you liked this movie, you will love the movie “Rush Hour” with Jackie Chan!
Good one..lovelovelove ✌🏻🌞❤️
Remember, this was 1985…
art connoisseur lol
OHHHH BIIILLLYYY
The idea of the banana disguise joke being dumb just shows how stupid this other pair is. Btw, the breakfast buffet guy that gives Axel the bananas that you didn't show in this video was a cameo by Damon Wayans. Murphy is known for putting comedians he discovers into his movies.
‘Sup guys!
Keep on going ..❤
(23:39) Thanks, Hollywood, for making dumb people think you can just taste some ramdom powder and know what it is. I've actually seen a couple people do this irl. It's especially funny when you ask them how they know it's not poison, because clearly they didn't think of that first. 😆🙄They're most likely the same people that think being shot in the shoulder is no big deal (thanks, again, Hollywood!). 👍🏽
Yeah, I think we were all sick of the song by the end of the movie. It's like the song Everybody's Talkin' in the movie Midnight Cowboy. I never wanted to hear it again after watching that movie.
I must remind myself to skip the first 20 seconds of your videos...
Coz those "puns" GENUINELY make a little bit of sick come into my mouth
(Other than that, love your work xx)
Love this series part 3 is weakest but new one in Netflix is good
if you like deniro and murphy they did a movie called showtime, i thibk better written.
Sexual innuendos are really funny
You Guys make me so happy ❤️🇺🇸🇦🇺🇺🇸🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘Australia.
0:47 😅😂😂😅😖😖😖
Cringe! Cringe? Oh no, your jokes go far beyond Cringe. You're in the 'Mega, Phyco, Hella, Uber bag kinda Cringe.' You broke the mold on what Cringe is and was. You're in the next level of Cringe. A level no meer man should ever go. 😂😅
