Just realized I forgot to include the timestamp for when the spoiler section is over in the FF7 section, but it's 31:29. Also labeled the spoiler segment it in the chapter markers.
I'm so glad you raised Wiz Daphne! I simply can't put it down. I usually don't play mobile games, but as a blobber sucker and Wizardry preacher I needed to play this one. It blew my mind. I play everyday. So much that I now have a schedule to maintain balance between parenting/career/gaming. On weekends I work on progressing the story, during week I grind for fine tuning my equipment (timesink) and grinding for xp/ressources. It's so satifying finally having a proper daily blobber fix with the possibility to go really deep into gazillion of equipment management. God, I almost feel dirty as I'm writing this... the perfect game loop (for me) on a business model I'm loathing. On another hand, proving a gacha can coherently work on a story is no small feat that should be aknowledged by future ''predatory models'' developpers. And finally, blobbers devs should study Daphne on how to properly tell a story while staying true to the format. Ps: sorry for your loss bro🤜🤛. Never fear to express your grief, your heart is at the right place.
The #2 entry hit me hard because I remember when you told me about what happened. Moments of respite is exactly why I cherish games so much. It's always hard for me to explain why games hold such a sentimental value at times because it's hard to encapsulate the entire emotional spectrum in mere words. Thank you for the list and opening my eyes for some games I haven't heard about nor those that got minimal time in the spotlight. Heck even your #1 seem to be forgotten in most lists. And of course I appreciate your support throughout the years ♥
Keep an eye out for the indie game Mystic Land: The Search for Maphaldo. It doesn't have a release date, but I'm expecting it sometime around Summer. Heavily inspired by Wizardry 7 and other similar games.
I can't get over how *good* some of these indie games look. What can make or break an indie for me is visual cohesion. Like, it's such a hard thing to pull off making everything look and feel like it belongs. These devs did amazing work.
I once read someone say something to the effect of "cohesive art direction is often more important to nail than gameplay" and I think this list (and my taste in games in general) is a testament to that notion haha
Finally someone gives Dragons Dogma some well deserved recognition. The way this game was dragged through the mud really made me lose faith in many channels, and kept me off of Reddit for awhile. It just makes me happy someone realizes how great it is.
Bruh, how did you get me crying in the club during your top ten list 😢That aside, Im stoked for your #1. Much like you, I don't have the time to play a bunch of RPGs but my god #1 drew me in and I could not put it down 😩
You are a true beacon of a channel. Thanks for doing all this great curation. There is so much amazing, creative work out there and it's a shame to see so few people discussing it.
Found your channel, and gotta say, your enthusiasm on the genre of dungeon crawling has made me consider trying some of the games myself. Wizardry Variant Daphne seemed accessible so I'm gonna try that soon. Good video! Subbed.
The biggest issue for me has been length. When I was younger I used to think there was no such thing as too many RPGs, but at the time most of them were 20-30 hours long. Playing multiple 60-100 hour games just isn’t sustainable! Also, everyone go buy Keylocker and SKALD.
I'm not trying to sound condescending or anything of the sort, but you don't have to play every rpg that releases. I agree that not every rpg needs to be a 100+ hour experience, but I also think that not every rpg needs to be made short so that streamers and reviewers have time to play all of them. A balance of both is ideal.
@ I don’t know why you think a 20 hour game is more forgettable than a 100 hour one. Is a 90 minute film more forgettable than a 10 hour one? In fact, I have a harder time recalling moments from a game I’ve spent that long with vs some the iconic story beats of shorter RPGs from the 16 and 32 bit era. Good pacing is not a matter of length, but it is more difficult to nail down in a longer format. Most games that are 100 hours simply are for the sake of marketing, not because they need to be.
Yooo great to see a crawl video! Thank you for shinning light on some great game I didn’t know existed! And woot shout out to variants Daphne! For a phone game it’s a comfy crawl, though predatory like all 😂
Awesome vid! I discovered your channel and learned about ton of cool stuff this year. Thanks so much! The only RPGs on my top ten that you didn't mention are Kingsvein (It's like a small open-world Soulsly Shining Force, my #2!) and Arco. Also you could have mentioned Grimstone when you were talking FF1 style throwbacks, that one was my fave on UFO50 reminded me how great simplicity can be!
It really is a phenomenal game. I cannot wait for part 3, the stuff they've said in interviews about the ways they're approaching exploration has me even more excited than I was for Rebirth.
I dont know if you actually ended up checking it out, but for my money LaD: Infinite Wealth/8 is without a doubt the best RPG not only to come out this year but honestly so far this decade. An utter masterpiece of a game.
I don't know you as I've just found this channel but love that you put rogue trader on the list. Currently playing with the DLC is a must in my opinion it's so good! Also you gotta check out Romancing Saga 2 remake. From how you've laid out your tastes here I imagine you'd have a great time.
Dread Delusion was by far my favorite game of the year and I was disappointed to see how little people are talking about it so I've taken it upon myself to make a long form video about and I just gotta say thank you for talking about this game
Loved a bit of DD2 and really want to see more. Caves of Qud has been a lot of fun, great end to the year. Had not touched during early access so played for the first time near launch, incredible world. So many games on this list I look forward to trying.
There are 2 people in this world those that like Metaphor Refantazio and the other that is fine with Square Enix dragging Final Fantasy 7 corpse around. Really good list I enjoyed Dragon Dogma a lot too and was fine with more of the same especially with the movement on thief. Combat i spammed one move but the exploration was my addiction. Overall 2024 was great and even though im sour on Rebirth at least part 3 has a good chance to release on pc day 1 as i sold my ps5 after beating it. Avowed is going to be the kick off for AAA games for 2025 with Ender Magnolia and Eternal Strands
I was surprised you didn't even mention Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, but hey, it was the year of RPGs - too many ;) Though i'm really like RPGs, I only played Shadow Gambit, Romancing SaGa 2 and Elden Ring. I even don't know why i didn't finish the games.
Romancing SaGa 2 remake was one of the ones I missed out on, but as I said in reply to another commenter, it’s on my list of stuff to hopefully get to this year
I'm with you in Metaphor take, I understand why people might like it a lot to the point of nominating it for game of the year but I'm just over Atlus' RPG formula that I wouldn't put it above anything I played last year like Dragon's Dogma 2, Unicorn Overlord, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Yakuza Infinite Wealth, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
That's too bad to hear! I enjoyed the time I spent with it but had to set it aside so I could get to other games at the time--which tbf, is probably a good indication as to why it was only an honorable mention for me lol. btw, I dig the Shadowrun avi.
Sorry you didn't enjoy it. As a fan of the Persona series I thought it was great. Anyone that still likes persona games should check it out. It was a goty nominee for what that's worth.
I don't think it's a disappointment but I'm not big fan of it either. Gameplaywise it's fun like persona but writing is off putting. It takes itself too seriously to the point where it gets dull and doesn't feel like fantasy that it's apparently supposed to be.
Just realized I forgot to include the timestamp for when the spoiler section is over in the FF7 section, but it's 31:29. Also labeled the spoiler segment it in the chapter markers.

Brendan: Blobberstyle.
Me: bless you.
Two great Wizardry games got released - seems like series is still alive.
what a time to be alive
Keep an eye out for the indie game Mystic Land: The Search for Maphaldo. It doesn't have a release date, but I'm expecting it sometime around Summer. Heavily inspired by Wizardry 7 and other similar games.

"Into the backlog you go"
*throws game onto a literal pile of games
The biggest issue for me has been length. When I was younger I used to think there was no such thing as too many RPGs, but at the time most of them were 20-30 hours long. Playing multiple 60-100 hour games just isn’t sustainable!
Also, everyone go buy Keylocker and SKALD.
I dream of an era where 20-30 hour RPGs are standard again.
SKALD was pretty short, right? Maybe we demand all games be SKALD-LENGTH!
Yeah 20ish hours, maybe shorter. Skald-length is a great way to label them haha
I'm not trying to sound condescending or anything of the sort, but you don't have to play every rpg that releases.

Ah, you're right! I should've included a shout out to that. I was so enamored with Valbrace I kinda glossed the rest lol
FF7 Rebirth is a masterpiece and one of the best games of all time also one of my fave games of all time, my GOTY 2024. ❤
It really is a phenomenal game. I cannot wait for part 3, the stuff they've said in interviews about the ways they're approaching exploration has me even more excited than I was for Rebirth.

Admittedly, I still need to finish LaD7 first. But I hope to eventually get to Infinite Wealth!
You've convinced me on DD2, I'll buy it after I build my PC
Yess the crawl is back ♥
It's so sad to me, that wizardry daphne is mobile game with gacha, it's looks awesome
That’s how I felt too before playing. The good news is it’s coming to Steam. No release date yet, but I’m hoping it’s soon so more people can play it.
@@TheCrawl oh, that's a good news , thanks for information
Love how unique this list is. Found quite a few more games I need to try out.
Dragons Dogma 2 is such a joy to play and experience, so many months have passed and I still keep thinking to go back
I don't know you as I've just found this channel but love that you put rogue trader on the list. Currently playing with the DLC is a must in my opinion it's so good!

I liked Metaphor and FF7 Rebirth, so I guess I am both types of people at the same time lol. Like a fire/water type Pokemon or something.
They're both pretty good games. I'm one of the 3 people that never played the original ff7 so I was immune to the drama behind any changes.
Well this channel's getting added to the rotation. Far too many cool things to check out in this video. The backlog is even more backbreaking now.
enter pointing Leo meme here :O
Thank you for always highlighting indie games
The final boss of Metaphor has more mainline SMT vibes than anything, so definitely try to tackle it at some point down the line (very long though)
I was surprised you didn't even mention Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, but hey, it was the year of RPGs - too many ;)

Sonar shock is fully released already
It’s true! I just haven’t played it yet haha, only played the demo
@@TheCrawl thats fine, the later the better since the dev is still trying to fix some really bad perfomance issues the game has.
While adding Dragon Ruins to my Steam list, I saw that Dragon Ruins II just came out a couple days ago.
It is indeed! He beat me to it by a couple days; I recorded the audio for this back in December.
I see nothing wrong with this. Way better than the year of too many fps or sports games.
persona 3 reload is beautiful graphically but overall an extremely disappointing experience
Yeah, that was my feeling. And it was compounded by realizing I just don't like the highschool setting anymore--which is fine, but yeah.
I had basically the same top 10 but swapped DD2 with Metaphor. I don't think DD2 was at the same quality of the other games, and certainly not no. 1
Totally fair! Everyone's got different tastes :)
More like too little
Possibly, but that wasn’t as snappy of a title lol
Metaphor: Re Fantazio (A 100% Japanese name if I've ever heard one) was a big disappointment and I still haven't gotten over it.
That's too bad to hear! I enjoyed the time I spent with it but had to set it aside so I could get to other games at the time--which tbf, is probably a good indication as to why it was only an honorable mention for me lol.
btw, I dig the Shadowrun avi.
@@TheCrawl Glad to hear that, chum. Btw, you've just about pushed me over the fence to adding Dragon's Dogma 2 to my backlog.
