Why can’t I find more games with turn based combat like The Quest, Doom RPG and Gloomgrave? I really don’t like being taken to a battle screen

Its insane how influential three games in the 80s ended up being mostly responsible for so many games over the years. While I was familiar with the Ultima series and its influences on the west, this video is the first time I'm actually hearing about Wizardry and its influence on the east. Great video. It was recommended on my home feed since I started playing Wizardry Variants Daphne last week i guess lol. Had no idea how big the series was...

I just found this channel and it's a delight. Hearing her speak about her creating music with such passion. When I heard of her involvement in so many games my ears perked up. I recently got in to Wizardry, mainly because of delicious in dungeon and the mobile Wizardry Daphne ( which I adore) . Really looking forward to playing this one .

Loved a bit of DD2 and really want to see more. Caves of Qud has been a lot of fun, great end to the year. Had not touched during early access so played for the first time near launch, incredible world. So many games on this list I look forward to trying.

I'm with you in Metaphor take, I understand why people might like it a lot to the point of nominating it for game of the year but I'm just over Atlus' RPG formula that I wouldn't put it above anything I played last year like Dragon's Dogma 2, Unicorn Overlord, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Yakuza Infinite Wealth, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

I'm so glad you raised Wiz Daphne! I simply can't put it down. I usually don't play mobile games, but as a blobber sucker and Wizardry preacher I needed to play this one. It blew my mind. I play everyday. So much that I now have a schedule to maintain balance between parenting/career/gaming. On weekends I work on progressing the story, during week I grind for fine tuning my equipment (timesink) and grinding for xp/ressources. It's so satifying finally having a proper daily blobber fix with the possibility to go really deep into gazillion of equipment management. God, I almost feel dirty as I'm writing this... the perfect game loop (for me) on a business model I'm loathing. On another hand, proving a gacha can coherently work on a story is no small feat that should be aknowledged by future ''predatory models'' developpers. And finally, blobbers devs should study Daphne on how to properly tell a story while staying true to the format. Ps: sorry for your loss bro🤜🤛. Never fear to express your grief, your heart is at the right place.

I remember playing this back in 2008 hardcore as a teenager. I loved this game so much, so many fond memories of Est Ronfaure haha, spending 4 hours to get one level with a party of strangers. Mmos now aday are dopamine rushes.... I feel like im handed things. In FFXI, you worked for it. When going into the past dodging ladybug and hoping a WHM could get to you or lose EXP and time. Brutal, but satisfying.

Found your channel, and gotta say, your enthusiasm on the genre of dungeon crawling has made me consider trying some of the games myself. Wizardry Variant Daphne seemed accessible so I'm gonna try that soon. Good video! Subbed.

The #2 entry hit me hard because I remember when you told me about what happened. Moments of respite is exactly why I cherish games so much. It's always hard for me to explain why games hold such a sentimental value at times because it's hard to encapsulate the entire emotional spectrum in mere words. Thank you for the list and opening my eyes for some games I haven't heard about nor those that got minimal time in the spotlight. Heck even your #1 seem to be forgotten in most lists. And of course I appreciate your support throughout the years ♥

I dont know if you actually ended up checking it out, but for my money LaD: Infinite Wealth/8 is without a doubt the best RPG not only to come out this year but honestly so far this decade. An utter masterpiece of a game.

I see nothing wrong with this. Way better than the year of too many fps or sports games.

The final boss of Metaphor has more mainline SMT vibes than anything, so definitely try to tackle it at some point down the line (very long though)

While adding Dragon Ruins to my Steam list, I saw that Dragon Ruins II just came out a couple days ago.

I was surprised you didn't even mention Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, but hey, it was the year of RPGs - too many ;) Though i'm really like RPGs, I only played Shadow Gambit, Romancing SaGa 2 and Elden Ring. I even don't know why i didn't finish the games.

Dread Delusion was by far my favorite game of the year and I was disappointed to see how little people are talking about it so I've taken it upon myself to make a long form video about and I just gotta say thank you for talking about this game

More like too little

There are 2 people in this world those that like Metaphor Refantazio and the other that is fine with Square Enix dragging Final Fantasy 7 corpse around. Really good list I enjoyed Dragon Dogma a lot too and was fine with more of the same especially with the movement on thief. Combat i spammed one move but the exploration was my addiction. Overall 2024 was great and even though im sour on Rebirth at least part 3 has a good chance to release on pc day 1 as i sold my ps5 after beating it. Avowed is going to be the kick off for AAA games for 2025 with Ender Magnolia and Eternal Strands

persona 3 reload is beautiful graphically but overall an extremely disappointing experience

I had basically the same top 10 but swapped DD2 with Metaphor. I don't think DD2 was at the same quality of the other games, and certainly not no. 1

Well this channel's getting added to the rotation. Far too many cool things to check out in this video. The backlog is even more backbreaking now.

Finally someone gives Dragons Dogma some well deserved recognition. The way this game was dragged through the mud really made me lose faith in many channels, and kept me off of Reddit for awhile. It just makes me happy someone realizes how great it is.

Metaphor: Re Fantazio (A 100% Japanese name if I've ever heard one) was a big disappointment and I still haven't gotten over it.

FF7 Rebirth is a masterpiece and one of the best games of all time also one of my fave games of all time, my GOTY 2024. ❤

I can't get over how *good* some of these indie games look. What can make or break an indie for me is visual cohesion. Like, it's such a hard thing to pull off making everything look and feel like it belongs. These devs did amazing work.

The only RPGs on my top ten that you didn't mention are Kingsvein (It's like a small open-world Soulsly Shining Force, my #2!) and Arco. Also you could have mentioned Grimstone when you were talking FF1 style throwbacks, that one was my fave on UFO50 reminded me how great simplicity can be!
