Life after college has been ok. I have been making videos for UA-cam for 2 years and it has been amazing. I've always been scriptwriting since I was a kid so this was a perfect thing for me to do to Express myself on camera. I had one job after college but didnt like it so I'm glad I got out of it. Hopefully UA-cam will be my job in the future!
I've been looking for a job that remote for like 8 months now. I cannot seem to land anything, several interviews just haven't gotten any real offers yet. Any advice? I have a great degree from top college, started 2 businesses, held many management roles, yet still cant seem to land anything.
I can’t tell you how much this video helped me! I always stress in the back of my head about future independence and how my life is gonna play out after I get my degree, the thought of being by myself with all responsibilities being up to me in my life (while obvious) still spooks me a bit I can’t lie. I also liked how you said my day job doesn’t have to be my passion as well, I’m currently working towards my Bachelors of Arts in history for education and while I enjoy history I always think “is this really what I want to do?” And while I still like it I also have other potential interests in the back of my mind like brick-masonry as an example. I also need to break into social aspects again as I’ve really fallen off of that for years now as I’m in online school and I’ve moved so much growing up that it effected me in that social way as I got older. After typing all of this I realize I really want to push myself to get back to doing social things I enjoyed with new potential friends , I made most of my friends in my life through school but more specifically soccer, I really haven’t played much since I’ve been in school and I think getting back into it would help me mentally but also physically as well, I have yet to try it as it’s unusual for me to try it this way as an adult honestly but I plan on giving it a true shot soon. Thanks so much for this video ❤️
Finally a video that gives more of an equal stance on the good and bad after college. Most videos show as if life after college is just nothing but darkness and depression. I graduate in a year so this really helps

Great video Hasham! I felt lost while in college, but I feel less of this thanks to your videos and other UA-cam channels with similar content. Three semesters ago, I switched from Speech-Language Pathology to Computer Science and I am glad that I did. Just for an idea, do you think you could make a video on how to change majors? Making the switch from Finance to Accounting is relatively easy since they share a lot of the same classes and requirements. However, a decent amount of students might want to switch to a major that is unrelated, but don't know where to start.
Hi Luke, may I ask why you are glad you switched from speech pathology? I have been considering this career for a long time now but there seems to be a lot of fine print that SLPs don't talk about.
@@matoaka21 It has been some time since receiving your reply, but it’s an important question to answer. Also, I agree that this field has a decent amount of fine print. Take this list with a grain of salt. It is designed to inform you of the things that I wish I had known about. I do not to persuade you to join, or leave, the field of Speech-Language-Pathology. However, do your research and take what others in Speech-Language-Pathology tell you with a grain of salt. It's there job to churn out clinicians, so they might leave things out in a conversation. On the other hand, do not give up on your dreams and aspirations if you have thought about this career for a long time. You might want to copy this reply in MS Word to make it easier to read. Pros: •You work with patients over a long period of time and see them grow and improve. •You help people gain or regain communication skills, eating/swallowing capabilities, and hearing aspects of communication. •A DECENT salary (on paper anyway). The median (not average, these are very different) annual salary (8-10 years of experience) is $80k according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and you might get benefits depending on the clinic or institution. •SOME work-from-Home Jobs. •If you’re a male (an occupational minority), you might be paid a slightly higher salary if your employer has extra capital. If you are a female (the occupational majority), expect to make the regular salary for the area you’re in. Cons: •You work with patients over a long period of time. Can be emotionally and mentally draining if you don’t have the patience or the right personality. •Median annual salary (8-10 years of experience) of $80k according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is subjective, yet objective depending on a variety of factors. Based on the blogs that I have scoured, it appears to be difficult to negotiate a higher salary in this industry, even with years of experience. •A Master’s Degree is mandatory. When you get a Bachelor’s in Speech-Language-Pathology, your list of jobs is being a Speech Therapy Assistant (better than being the clinician sometimes), Audiology Assistant, or working in the Personal Injury Protection Area of the insurance industry. There might be other obscure options, but these are the most common choices. •Your Continuing Education Units (CEUs) (classes that people in most professions complete annually) do not improve your chances of moving up the ladder in the workplace. Your employer might reimburse these, but sometimes can be out-of-pocket. •Not much room for advancement in this field when compared with similar professions. Here are some of the common job types to advance into: o Rehab Director: Pays a SLIGHTLY higher salary with a larger number of responsibilities. You will be competing with physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurse practitioners, and those in Health Administration. oSpeech or Therapy Clinic Owner: Pays a better salary than a regular clinician, but the nuances of starting a clinic can be very financially and emotionally draining. In an economic downturn, you could keep a good salary as an owner, but expect your employees to quit. You will lose great clinicians by doing this. oProfessor of Speech-Language-Pathology: More student debt, does not pay that much more when compared to a Master’s degree. More stress as you are a professor, not a teacher. •Most jobs are not work-from-home jobs (this is expected for healthcare). Read the fine print. I have seen many job posts with the area that the clinic is located in. A true work-from-home job generally will not have this (most of the time). Also, professors like to dangle the term “work-from-home” a lot to maintain your interest in the field as if it is interwoven with the tech industry.
@@lukealexander4512 Wow, thank you so much for taking so much time and going into such great detail! This is so helpful. But when you get into the middle, between the ages of twenty and forty, the thing rocks like mad and it's too late to go back, even to to look back. But if you go on as carefully as you can, you see the other platform and then you just make a dash for it, not bothering what the audience thinks, or waving your arms, or looking dangerous and difficult and prodigious. What you see when you get to the other side is, in fact, the edge of your coffin. And you get into it, and you lie down, and you think; my cuffs are frayed, I haven't written to my mother and all those other things. And then you think; it doesn't matter. Because I'm dead. And this is a message of hope. It will come to an end. It will come, we cannot be blamed for it and we shall be free.”
