Man what Ned says at the end is one of the nicest things I’ve ever heard a man say to another man. Truly cool, you can feel just how much reverence Ned had for Sr and how much joy he gets out of seeing Dale Jr do what he does. Great episode but the video hit harder.

I think Jr has become numb to the situation. He’s so used to seeing and hearing so much about that race from fans and the media that he has had plenty of years to mourn with himself and his family. He’s not used to it but I think he just got to a point where it is what it is

I've watched and/or listened to a lot of Dale Jr Download podcasts and this one is hands down one of my favorites. Growing up an Earnhardt fan it's special to hear about stories of Sr. outside of the racing world and Ned has some special one's. It would be great to hear a part II with him. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to put this together.

There are stories that have been told about his generosity and how humble he was about it being made public. One in particular was about a local church in need of a new parking lot. Maybe someone could get Dale Jr. to talk about that.

I don’t know how you keep having to relive that day about your father! But that truly underlines what Ned said about “The man that you’ve become” because it truly takes a person who has worked through many things to be able to discuss such a day that you had to endure on such a public stage! Watching my hero lose it all right before my very eyes was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. Haven't been back to Daytona since. I feel Ned's emotion and wow it made me relive that day and my own personal experience. I cried for WEEKS. I've lost family that never affected me like Big E. Jr you have done more for racing SINCE you retired in my opinion. Your LMSC teams, the old track history, the amazing guests on the DJD. Thank you Jr. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping all these memories alive, good, bad, and ugly. It's meant a lot to a ton of people. God bless.

To say I idolized Dale Sr. back in those days would be an understatement. I moved to Kannapolis because he was from there. Worked at his company before he sold it to Action Performance. Was proud to meet him though it was brief and for him I'm sure very ho hum. For me it was a chance to meet one of my heroes and he didn't disappoint. Being a life long Braves fan plus a Dale Sr. fan, this was one of my favorite podcasts. Course I say that after most of them, but seriously, this one hit home. I lost my wife in 2005 to an aneurysm (she went in a split second) and I remember how hard she took Dales death in 2001. She really mourned for months after that Daytona race. And I'll never forget her running down the stairs terrified after your fiery Corvette crash in Sonoma. I was piddlin' in the garage that morning when she came running in tears, threw her arms around me and said, I think we just lost Jr. in a bad wreck. And that took me back to Neil Bonnett years before. I was in the garage that day too when she came running down with the sad news. It's tough losing those we love. I know all too well. And a ps from what Ned said.......Dale, we all know your dad would be so proud of you. I can literally see that huge smile he had with all you've done and your accomplishments. You might think that Jr might not want to relive it again and again, but I think he understands there is an amount of resolution that may/can be found, for those that cared about and miss Sr.. And to me, its so satisfying, as a fan, not only to hear the stories and the insights, but to literally witness some of these people "exhaling" for what sometimes seems like a first time, since that day. There has been alot of people on the djd. And there's been a few that emotionally got me thinking about my own life personally. But this man, this man right here. May be the most genuine human being I've ever heard speak. He isn't speaking to entertain, it's like 3 people having a close talk amongst good friends and no mic,or camera. But Mr Yost with his stories almost made it as if you were at the same place and time watching all of these things take place in person. This is the first time, I've ever been able to watch all these things take place in my mind as he talks. So from me to Ned,all of dirty mo. Genuinely thank you for this. Sincerely 💪

When Dale passed, the first thing I said was"I wonder how Ned is doing". Odd at the time but now I know. Ned was and still is my favorite manager

I was never a SR fan. I will never forget where I was after that race and when the announcement was made. NASCAR has never been the same. Dale Jr, you have paved your own path. Your dad would be very very proud! You have made your own legacy.

Dale Jr knows how his dad was, he watched it first hand. Its amazing the older we get, the more we forgive. Its important to enjoy the later years in life.

That hug was one of those things that like Ned, struck me as just out of 'character' for Dale. Wrapping his arm around Dale Jr. and Teresa on the starting grid, giving her a big kiss, the big grin. 99% of the time at that point, he was in the car, laser focused and if you weren't a pit road reporter getting a quick final word, you didn't dare bother him because he was already in the zone. So much so I mentioned it the moment I saw it on my TV live. Who knew some 3 or 4 hours later...
I was at my older brother's house when that news came in with Mike Helton saying the worst words I'd ever heard to that point in my life. About 19 days before my birthday that fall, 9/11 happened. For NASCAR fans, specifically Dale Earnhardt fans, we all had that kind of tragic loss twice in one year. We started the year losing a singular hero that we'd all come to know and respect in our own ways who impacted our lives through sports. We ended the year losing hundreds of heroes we never knew, who showed what true bravery in the face of impossible odds looked like. I was 15 when all this happened. I can honestly say that one year changed my life personally in a lot of ways learning to deal with tragedy, loss and growing up.
That will always be the single worst year of my life. But I'm also thankful for it because it taught me what kind of person I needed to be when my brother was diagnosed with and passed away from cancer only a couple years later. It taught me a lot about moving forward through unbearable pain. Like Dale's family had to, like the families of 9/11 had to. And it taught me that life goes on. Whether we're ready for it or we're not, time marches on and you either fall in step, or fall behind. Watching Dale Jr. move forward helped me know how to move forward. It's bigger than just cars going in circles. It's life.

I believe Dale Sr. already knew he was not going to make it though the race. I have listened to many interviews he gave leading up to The Daytona 500. And he was in a weird place in those interviews. Ned Yoast's talking about Dale Sr. really drove the point home for me.

I knew it was bad immediately - Then I could tell by Kenny's reaction it was bad - everyone was saying Stewart's wreck was worse - I knew -
I thought about Chocolate and Jr of course - and Richard
    And that little girl -
I cried all night too -
