Bravo, Ocean Cleanup. I had never heard of you until today. Made my day to learn that there are visionaries like you out there doing something meaningful.
They got 100 tons this time (probably half of it was water) plus the 7 tons of their second run and they brought their catching systems back. One of the local garbage trucks here moves more plastic. Ocean going tugs burn 10 tons to 15 tons per day. But they are forced to continue sea operations because of the fans expectations.
God bless you all who are actually willing to do about the ocean poisoning and not just talking about. Your job is very important. Thank you guys 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤❤❤
AMAZING! Blows my mind how we have gotten to far out with our plastic. I am excited technologies has been used to assist. The organization is such a “gem” to our environment. Thank you for your time and effort.
I would ask money to the companies that sell plastic, none excluded. They should pay for it, because the customers already paid for it, the profit is their pockets, not ours.
And if we do that, all they have to do is add one extra cent every time you buy a bottle 🙄 in an open market the consumer will have to pay for every green tax at the end of the day
If only companies would stop producing plastic products. If only people would be more diligent. If only tsunamis didn’t occur like in Japan and sweep half of the country’s garbage etc. into the ocean. If only….
Let's try some math. Their goal is to reach 100kg per hour of trash collection, that is 2400 kg per day, which is 2.4 tons per day x 365 days is 875 tons per year. Currently conservative estimate puts the amount of plastic at 150+ MILLION tons today. Lets also pretend then 15 million tons of new plastic are not entering the ocean each year. So, to clean up the mess in 10 years like they tell you in the video, that would be 15 Million tons per year, and with each pair of ships collecting 875 tons per year, you would need 17,150 pairs of ships, over 35,000 ships working 24 hours a day collecting garbage. There aren't 35,000 ships of this size/type on planet earth. This whole project is not realistic to accomplish the goals it claims it can. Simple math shows you its all bull.
@@theboringchannel2027 So, what is your recommendation? Do nothing? If so, you just may be stuck in the first phase of innovation, ie "it will never work."
@@TonyK3130 Doing this is OBVIOUSLY NOT the actual solution. It helps bring awarness to the problem, but itself is not the workable solution. This is not the first phase of it will never work, its not a functional idea, the math shows that. You paying for this?
@@theboringchannel2027 you looked up plastic in the entire ocean, if you look it up in the great pacific garbage patch, its only 80,000 tons. If they can bring tons of garbage out of the ocean everyday i dont know why you'd complain.

It's sick that 1. trash end up to the sea 2. that's only the ones that float somewhat, so imagine all that's in the bottom rotting... Thank you for sharing this vid. That looks quite huge achievement!!! Amazing
I’m curious if there are deployable units to tsunami areas immediately after a tsunami to start collection before the debris field spreads further into the oceans.
@@DavidSchneiderIP Chemistry has compromised a solution. Petrochemical companies want nothing more than to invent a new polymer that doesn't rely on petroleum. Demand for such a product is high and it would be immensely profitable. It just doesn't exist yet. Plastic has been a god-send. I've been to serveral islands that are absolute paradises. And every single one of them had beaches and mongroves covered in plastic waste. It was and is heart breaking to see. It's really difficult to grasp the scale of the problem. Goverments really need to ban most plastics, especially non reusable plastic products.
I agree, but plastic is the most convenient. Ever drink from a PAPER straw? Or drink from a aluminum can without the plastic liner inside the can? New plastic, made from oil, is better quality & cheaper than recycled plastic. Would you pay for $20k for a used car with 150k miles, or a new car with 5 miles?

They got 100 tons this time (probably half of it was water) plus the 7 tons of their second run and they brought their catching systems back. One of the local garbage trucks here moves more plastic. Ocean going tugs burn 10 tons to 15 tons per day. But they are forced to continue sea operations because of the fans expectations.

I would ask money to the companies that sell plastic, none excluded. They should pay for it, because the customers already paid for it, the profit is their pockets, not ours.
And if we do that, all they have to do is add one extra cent every time you buy a bottle 🙄 in an open market the consumer will have to pay for every green tax at the end of the day
they will just raise their prices to compensate for the increased production costs
If only companies would stop producing plastic products. If only people would be more diligent. If only tsunamis didn’t occur like in Japan and sweep half of the country’s garbage etc. into the ocean. If only….

3 phases of innovation 1: It will never work. 2: Yeah, it works, but, but , but. 3: What is taking you so long??? You guys are awesome.
Exactly what happened with Starlink.
Let's try some math. Their goal is to reach 100kg per hour of trash collection, that is 2400 kg per day,
which is 2.4 tons per day x 365 days is 875 tons per year.
Currently conservative estimate puts the amount of plastic at 150+ MILLION tons today. Lets also pretend then 15 million tons of new plastic are not entering the ocean each year.
So, to clean up the mess in 10 years like
they tell you in the video, that would be 15 Million tons per year, and with each pair of ships collecting 875 tons per year,
you would need 17,150 pairs of ships,
over 35,000 ships working 24 hours a day collecting garbage.
Even if they made things 20x more efficient than today, it would require thousands of ships working for a decade or more,
those resources do not exist, and the cost to build would be in the trillions. You paying for this?
@@theboringchannel2027 you looked up plastic in the entire ocean, if you look it up in the great pacific garbage patch, its only 80,000 tons. If they can bring tons of garbage out of the ocean everyday i dont know why you'd complain.
