Love your videos, hard to wait for another new one. I keep watching all the older videos over and over. Have a great holiday ! And keep the videos coming. I would love 2 or 3 per week!
Just got back from a Holiday from Copenhagen to sit and watch this joy. Have a wonderful festive time with your families and may I wish you safe seafaring for the new year. HoHoHo❤
I used to love being the one shoveling ice when we were shrimping. We always packed our halibut too. Sorry I missed the live stream was in and out of cell service in Nevada headed towards Quartzsite Arizona. Merry Christmas to you all, thanks for the enjoyment.
Merry Christmas to all your family from Ron in Caloundra Queensland Australia , thanks for your you tube videos, they allow me to join in activities my poor health no longer let me do myself ,Ron.
Thanks for watching, Ron. We are honored to be able to share these experiences with you. We couldn't do it without you and all our wonderful viewers! Best wishes for a great New Year!
Merry Christmas from Western Australia! Fab storytelling in this video, love the multiple angles and takes. All the best to you and your family. I grew up in Scandinavia and miss the steamed halibut, but we have got fantastic fish here as well. We had 112 F the other day, Xmas in WA. All the best! Annie
Merry Christmas Annie! We are happy you enjoyed the video! We really appreciate the kind words. Steamed fish is delicious, nice and moist. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Year’s to you all. I absolutely adore this channel and wanted to ask if there was any way possible that we could get an hour and a half or two hour video? I hate it when I’m done watching one and wishing it could’ve been longer. If you can, that would be awesome thank you so much for all your hard work and bringing us along
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We will see what we can come up with, but afraid we would run out of footage or only be able to get a video out once a week or every 10 days or so. A lot of work goes into editing so it would really slow down our releases. Perhaps we will do more of a raw video for the next one, a full set of pulling halibut gear. We sure appeciate your support and ideas.
Love watching you pull in the halibut (no skates ;-)) We just cooked and ate a chunk of the Halibut we received from you a few months ago - so good. We have Flounder (a cousin) but nothing that big or thick. Our cook ended up wonderful and we still have about 10 lbs to enjoy. Thanks from Florida.
Thank you! I always puts a smile on our faces when we hear back from our customers. You guys are the reason we direct market our catch. Best wishes from the whole crew for a wonderful New Year!
Merry Christmas, Debbie! We opened up your package last night, you guys are so thoughtful. The pictures and story of your trip were so special, thank you so much for sharing that! We'll sure enjoy the goodies and the ornament is very cute! We hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas!
Thank you for showing below deck I worked on a ice bout a and freezer boat at that my captain checking i was filling the belly with ice but only once after that he new i did my best lol
Got to handle it to you fellas obviously I'm not a fisherman and I've never known or seen a skate before but you guys should be a lot of them... I was waiting for the proverbial kitchen sink to come up with those suckers
For sure! We'll likely attach it somewhere in the future. Although we found out later its kind of nice to measure from either side of the reel, so maybe a modular ruler isn't too bad.
I really do enjoy all of y'all's videos thank you very much.i am just wondering why you don't throw the old bait out for the birds,or does it cause a issue and make them keep coming back and make a issue as in them all over you while you are trying to haul? Just a question I don't think anyone else has asked.but I do throw out my bait after I am done witch it's just a lake but never thought it would hurt anything or does it .I may have been doing something wrong all of these 50 years by throwing out old bait.lol but anyways just wondering but thank you again for the great video and wish y'all nothing but the best
It’s a good question, Scott! Theres no reason we don’t, sometimes when we’re bored we’ll toss it out to them to see their antics. In this case I suppose we were just focusing on work. The seagulls act skittish at times also so we’d have to chuck it out a ways. Have a Merry Christmas!
@EISAlaska Merry Christmas to you and your family.i do know that seagulls do get annoying cuz when I go to Tampa Florida that always are just so annoying lol they will come down and take a sandwich right out of your hand even if you are eating it lol.but thanks for answering back
Good question Colin, it’s so that any remaining blood doesn’t pool up on the white side and give it an off color and also something we do out of habit.
@@EISAlaska Thanks for that bit of information. Turning the fish is that standard for all halibut fishing or is that just something that you have learnt & just do it like you say?
Question, what is wrong with skate? Also can you show us in close view, how you use that hooky thing to get fishhooks out of the fish. Merry Christmas and thanks.
Is it worth it to lease quota when the a good haul of Halibut is ca. 500 lb and average hauls are 200 lb. or less? Is the lease for a set rate or a proportion of the catch total?
Hi guys, over the years I've been watching you I've often wondered why you don't occasionally swap from Halibut to Skate for your main catch, seems that Skate are more abundant on your grounds? Also Len should have a Depth Finder repeater screen up by the controls where you land the fish - save going in and out?
Currently there is no directed fishery for skate. The bycatch rate for skates used to be 20% but was reduced to 5% a few years back due to overharvest concerns. I would say the resource is doing well! At some point I will mount a monitor outside. Then I can see our position and depth, also make marks when we hit good fishing.
Hello guys happy Christmas and happy new year to all ye guys, still not happy with the camera angle cos it shows 1 third of the boat, just move the camera in front of ye and then we can see the hole back of the boat and what ye do best instead we can't see much, stay safe guys love ye Niall from lreland
Butterball Halibut? Is there different kinds of Halibut? Or you just call them that cause they are "fat" and healthy? Love watching you guys at work. Merry Christmas and all the best in 2025 from Ontario Canada ☃️🌲🧑🎄
Im sorry but I do have a complaint. Hey id sit and watch this all day from breakfast to dinner there to short lol I can wait for crab season back in the eighty tes I was the first person to crab for green hair crabs and that was on st mickel on the pribalof islands so thank you for bringing my youth back to me
Glad it brought back some good memories Scott! Appreciate your support and comments. Was there any money in that fishery, seems like a guy would need alot of those crab to add up.
Thank you all for watching! Have a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Phil!
Nice catch!
Ya know if there was a market for skates dog fish and star fish you’d have a fleet of new fishing boats lol
Wow, over 30 skates in that set. But, it was also the best grade I have seen you pull--I got an average of 45.6 pounds! Nice work!
They were some beautiful halibut. The sure clean up quick with that kind of grade.
Ye did good this time 😊
Nice hook throw dude…..careful of those big seas
Thanks, I reckon ol’ Sig might be proud of me with that one. 😂
Spot on!👊🏻🇺🇸
Merry Christmas guys
Merry Christmas, Steven!

Got to handle it to you fellas obviously I'm not a fisherman and I've never known or seen a skate before but you guys should be a lot of them... I was waiting for the proverbial kitchen sink to come up with those suckers
Looks like they need to do a skate season if theyre worth eating.
You guys should fish for Skates ane settle for Hallibut lol 😂 those Skate seem soooo overfished lmao
Just a thought but wouldn't it be easier to have a permanent ruler on the deck. Great video btw, so many huge skate.
For sure! We'll likely attach it somewhere in the future. Although we found out later its kind of nice to measure from either side of the reel, so maybe a modular ruler isn't too bad.
do you ever use fishing poles while waiting on lines to soak?
Nah, not at all. Though it would be a fun time filler.
I really do enjoy all of y'all's videos thank you very much.i am just wondering why you don't throw the old bait out for the birds,or does it cause a issue and make them keep coming back and make a issue as in them all over you while you are trying to haul? Just curious what the skates go for per pound compared to halibut. And do they have a season? Seems like they are plentiful
They are bycatch only, in this case 5% weight of target species, not worth dealing with. Last one we delivered year ago, they were $0.25/lb.
A Question: Why do you store the halibut upside down (white side up)? Thanks see you next time.
Would a cattle prod work on a big fish to shut it down for easier handling?
It probably would, hate to see it go off on one of us tho. Might be lights out!
Are you able to shut down your genset while fishing?
Yep we can. We kept it running for the heaters and Starlink.
Question, what is wrong with skate?
Also can you show us in close view, how you use that hooky thing to get fishhooks out of the fish.
Merry Christmas and thanks.
Yep, we’ll show that close up next season! Didn’t get a chance this time I don’t think.
Why don't you use a swivel to stop the twisting?
We do have swiveled gear, but only about 25% of the hooks so far. We're working towards upgrading them all as we go.
Is it worth it to lease quota when the a good haul of Halibut is ca. 500 lb and average hauls are 200 lb. or less? Is the lease for a set rate or a proportion of the catch total?
It's probably worth it for us since its our boat and just our family as crew. With a more expensive operation, probably get pretty skinny.
Good
How often do you get checked by fish and game or Coastguard?
How much do you guys get per pound? Merry Christmas and and have a safe and prosperous new year
Price was pretty steady here this year. $5.00- $5.75 pound. Thats IFQ weight which is head off/ gutted.
Very Niçe Merry christ
Merry Christmas!
👍

Lol look at my remarks are before you told us thanks again
do you have to clean the fish? Do you get more money for clean one?
I love how you recognize the patrons, but for me, it would probably be easier if they were in alphabetical order
When you fish the skatepark..
True! Too many skaters!
I have two spiny dog fish and guess were they are from ….Emerald Isle North Carolina lol

Exactly that! Nice chunky halibut! Have a Merry Christmas!
What are you doing with the small sharks? They from time to time desapearing in your videos?
Nothing, just shaking them back into the water. Theres no market value here and they’re not worth baiting.
21:50 looks like they’ should increase 📈 bycatch to 10% … are figures ever reviewed?
There does not appear to be any other boats fishing near you. Why is that?
We don’t see many boats usually, especially not this time of year. Maybe a couple two or three in the area, but nothing like summertime.
Thanks for the explanation. Super job in the videos and the dialogue. Great to have the explanations of what you are doing.
Are they eatable?
They have markets back east, and sounds like across the pond for fish n chips.
Im sorry but I do have a complaint. How much 3A do you guys have? Man I hate longlining with hooks. Pots are so much easier. Slinkies are a gong shoe in my opinion
crabbing videos!
